And so begins the great laptop replacement search of Fall 2015. My current Samsung NP900X4D laptop had a wee accident and I'm in need of a replacement. The thing is, I absolutely love this laptop. It's like the 15" MacBook Air Apple never made. Of course I just recently upgraded the 128GB mSata SSD to 500GB, and yes, I do need the on board storage. Despite the accident, the SSD is just fine, so I'd like to find a machine that still uses an mSata Drive so I can re-use my upgrade drive. In fact, only the keyboard is having problems, so I could replace that but... replacing the keyboard on these models is a royal pain in the ass. Literally have to go through over 20 of the tiniest screws ever, without losing a single one, and hope that it is in fact the keyboard that's causing this. What I NEED: Laptop that still uses an mSata SSD drive. (NOT M.2 or PCIe) What I WANT: The exact same Samsung Series 9 from 2012/2013. So far I've shortlisted Dell's XPS 13 (2015 Edition) and Lenovo's Yoga Pro 3 or X1 Carbon. (Sadly, none of these use mSata anymore ) Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't make anything close to their old Series 9 anymore. Has anyone seen anything that's even similar to Samsung's Series 9 with an mSata SSD?

So right now i have a BS in computer engineering and networking, with a minor in graphic design. Currently work at amazon, well amazon has offered to pay for 75% of my masters degree as long as i sign a contract with them to be the lead IT guy for the mke1 fulfillment center in kenosha, WI.... so im going to do it, i need to buy a new laptop which again amazon is giving me 75% credit for one of my choosing. So i would like help choosing a laptop Must haves: 17" sceen size 10 key Great battery life (best i can get) Dedicated graphics (just enough for light gaming at medium settings) THINNER THE BETTER Any brand. Was thinking about a razor pro but has the stupid touch screen instead of a real 10 key As for budget, try to stay under 4000 ( even though its not much of a budget) id like to spend less then 1000 of my own money

Hey guys, Here is another project we're working on over at Hydra: Flat Reservoirs As with all the other project we have developed and have received from other people to develop (our intention is to allow people to send us ideas, suggestions etc, help them develop the project and then let them earn from the idea they had), we'll be doing a crowdfunding sometimes near the end of November to start manufacturing them. These reservoirs allow for vast customization, as you can simply place a cut-out panel on top of them and have a custom made liquid routing of any shape you chose. We're planning on manufacturing these in a variety of sizes and shapes; for now these are the ones we'll be doing for placement in cases and desk solutions. They all have 4mm internal height and have been designed to work with pumps up to 24V 400x60mm 250x60mm 150x60mm We'll also have 3 models to be lodged in drive bays: 3 bay height 4 bay height 5 bay height I'll be updating the post as our testers (people from italian groups/forums, we are italian based) will send us pics. For now here are some shots we took of the longer model and others all under works.

I need help finding a 15mm thick case fan that has enough static pressure to work with either the H100i or radiator from the EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid. This thin fan is due to a lack of space causing a 25 mm fan to be too thick. Or a thinner radiator would work as well but my max thickness is 50 mm total.

Been using a crappy 22" inch TV that only supports 720p. Been looking for a monitor to upgrade to, and IPS monitors have caught my attention, particularly the Dell U2414H and the S2415H, because of their super slim bezels. Which one should I go for, or are there better monitors with thin bezels out there?

After hours of researching and looking at reviews, I can't decide what laptop is best for me So I came here to ask for some ideas and opinion. I really need a laptop for school, but I want it to be less than an inch thick. I really like the zenbook or the dell xps13, however I need something to perform light CAD work, sketchup and revit work. I'm looking for something that's: Budget: 1000 Size: 15 inches preferably Preferably under 1 inch, I don't want a giant desktop replacement battery life doesn't affect my decision much Not much games, if anything maybe just league of legends (most likely nothing though) Need for CAD work, sketchup, renders (I don't need it as a main work station, just when I'm out and showing work or doing work at school) Harddrive preferably 500gb or more, a bit of SSD hopefully Looking to keep the laptop as long as possible Just a DVD/ CD reader for optical drive (SD CARD READER IS PREFERRED) Live in CANADA, VANCOUVER Please keep in mind that I live in Vancouver, I always see laptops in the states amazon for a lot cheaper but getting it shipped here just means I have to pay duty and taxes... Help me out!! Thanks everyone!

I don't have a mobo that will support pci pass-through, but I know for awhile nvidia has started to support gpu pass-through on their consumer cards. Has anyone tried creating a virtual machine with pci pass-through and used their hyper-visor's discrete graphics card in steam stream? I am trying to create a virtual setup that can be logged into and game on. If anyone has come across this, or can help point me in a direction it would be great. It seems in theory there would be no reason why this wouldn't work. Thanks!

I'm looking for the smallest case possible on which I can install: - An mATX board - Closed loop watercooling for an Intel Skylake CPU (240mm radiator) - Closed loop watercooled GTX 980, from MSI or EVGA (120mm radiator) - 2 x 3.5" drives and 1 x 2.5" drives The reasons why I want mATX - and won't be fully satisfied with mITX - are: - M.2 - Quad Channel DDR4 - Additional PCIe slots for greater expandability I would greatly prefer a thin case that can be easily backpacked over a cube. So far the only one I have really come across that sort of meets the criteria is the BitFenix Pandora. However, from all the info I've seen, it will not support the instalation of the 120mm radiator on top (for the GPU) Other contenders are: - Corsair 250D (ITX, cool but sacrifices features, more square than thin) - Corsair 350D (mATX, a bit too big though) - Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 (same as 350D) - BitFenix Prodigy M (not sure about the looks - also more square than thin) So is there such a thing or am I chasing a Unicorn?

So I'm looking for a new thin/light notebook to use for school and some gaming. Not really regarding price yet just wanting to look at all my options, however it is difficult to do since new laptops are being released constantly and Linus only reviews a handful of them. Note: I swear to based nondenominational god if you link me any device with an apple logo there are a handful of ditches around my house that can be used for.......

Basically I have been looking at the two. The exact models I'm looking at have the exact same specs and are the same price - 4720HQ, 16GB, 965M, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD - £1150 This thing will be travelling with me constantly, hence why I need it to be thin and light. I prefer the looks of the GS70 Stealth over the Ghost, BUT the ghost is lighter, thinner, and has an IPS screen. The Stealth has a 17 inch screen, and weighs a littler more with a (good) TN panel. I don't know whether it's worth sacrificing those in order to get the better looking Stealth.

Hi, I'm currently planning my first water cooled build and am trying to decide which radiators to go with. I'll be doing the build in an Obsidian 750D case with a top 360 rad and a front 280 rad. I'm also going for a quiet build with fans spinning at low RPM. I'll be cooling a gtx 980 Ti and an i7 3770K. From what I've managed to gather, thinner rads tend to have a lower FPI which means they work better with lower RPMs. So if I'm going for a silent build, should I get the ST30 instead? Or should I go for the thicker XT45? If I want my fans to spin at low rpm say 500rpm or so, would two radiators be enough to make up for dissipation to allow for low RPM? On a side note, I was wondering what would be the best way to power multiple fans at a fixed low RPM? Any help is appreciated.

I'm trying to make tiny, yet powerful (CPU wise) build, based on Asus H81T motherboard. I already have SODIMM-s and mSATA from my NUC that I'm currently using at home, so I need to buy CPU, case and power adapter. I will buy the case last, since I have a test bench, and I will leave the system there until I find the one that I like, but I still need to buy CPU and power brick. Although I know power brick type that I need (19V+/-10%, 7.4mm-5.0mm), I'm not sure on the wattage (which depends on chosen CPU). I can get 90W, 120W, 135W, 150W, 180W, 200W or even 230W (all HP original power bricks), but I'm not sure whether ones above 180W will somehow damage the board, or which one will be enough for running i7-4790 or i7-4790S. I need to mention that this build has no discrete graphics, uses 2 modules of DDR3L on 1.35V and only mSATA as storage device. Can someone help me choose the right power brick? Will 180W be enough for 4790 under load?

Hello fellow users, I just got myself an ASUS K501LX laptop, and it only comes with a pre-installed 256GB M.2 SSD. That's great and all, but I find it a bit short to install my Steam library and other stuff (Unity projects, video editing, etc.). The laptop has an open SATA drive bay, but it's limited to a 7mm height form factor. The only HDDs that can fit in there are all 500 GB, so I'm wondering whether I should get one, or put more money into something like a 480/500/512 GB SSD. Keep in mind I need at least that amount of drive space to hold all my stuff. Also, would an external hard drive be fast enough to play Steam games? Like, could I plug it in my laptop and play games from it without incredibly slow loading times? TL;DR: 7mm HDD, SSD, or external hard drive, and which one?

Hi I originali wanted to to buy the Asus G751JT but then i started wondering if there was something thinner but almost as powerful but with a gtx970m but it cant be that much more expensive

Dell is back with a brand new XPS 13 this year at the Consumer Electronics Show, and it looks like the best one yet. It has an incredibly tiny 5.2mm bezel on the top and sides. And it also has 3200x1800 resolution with Touch Screen display. It has aluminum and carbon fiber helping to keep the weight to 2.6 pounds or 2.8 pounds on the touchscreen versions. Dell is also using the latest 5th generation Intel Core i processors, starting at the Core i3 for the base model with options up to a Core i7 version. Memory options include only 4GB or 8GB. Dell is claiming the new XPS 13 is the "smallest 13-inch laptop on the planet It’s using a glass button and a precision trackpad, which is something Microsoft has been encouraging OEMs to implement. Precision trackpads allow Windows 8.1 to directly control the pointer, multi-touch, and gesture support in trackpads, making them feel more like a mini touch-screen with smoother scrolling and better zooming and panning support. Dell claims you'll get 15 hours of battery lifeThe original XPS 13 had disappointing battery life, but that might not be the case with the 2015 edition. Dell is promising a massive 15 hours of battery life if you pick the 1920 x 1080 display option and a Core i5. But some of those gains are likely related to Intel’s Broadwell processor and the use of a power saving Sharp IGZO display. Pricing: Dell is planning to release the new XPS 13 today in the US starting at $799 for the Core i3 model, all the way up to $1,899 for the Core i7 version with a QHD+ panel, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD. So my friend is buying himself a new laptop, his budget is around 1000 USD. he wants a laptop powerful enough to run games at high settings but still thin and easy enough to carry so he can take it on a cafe and work on his school projects. Battery time isnt so important but a big bonus. The main attributes he is looking for is power(performance), portability, screen size should be 15" and he likes the color red . Storage doesn't matter because he has a 1TB samsung 840 EVO he will install himself. I have recommended him the lenovo Y50-70, acer aspire nitro 591g and the msi ge60. os these good choices or should he buy something completely else? Any suggestions is welcomed.

Hi, I have just started my computer science degree at university. And i am advised to bring a laptop to class However my current laptop is waay to thick to take with me. So I am looking for a rather slim laptop (maybe even a tablet with keyboard) that is also affordable (up to about $600). I would like to have the following specs: Usb 3.0, ethernet, hdmi out, headphone and microphone jack and sd card slot between 10" and 15" screen size at least 120GB of storage (most storage will be on my nas anyway) windows I hope someone can find me a device that can meet these expectations. I am going to use this laptop primarily for programming. but also for in-class note taking and casual web browsing, no heavy gaming or other demanding software.

Hi ^^ I'm not sure if this has been thought of already or not, but here it goes. You know those all-in-one PCs? What if there could be an all-in-one powerful gaming PC, but still be pretty thin? I'm thinking that the graphics card(s?) could be positioned vertically, obviously. However, to make the PC thin AND overclockable, it would be watercooled. I don't know a lot about watercooling, but I'm pretty sure that a watercooled card vs a fan cooled card would be at least half as thick. Same with the CPU. I'm guessing the CPU could be near the bottom on the other side, so it wouldn't catch much heat from the display. The graphic cards are pretty much screwed because they can't be away from the display, but maybe there could be a thermal layer between all the components and the display, but again, to make sure the PC is thin... I think watercooling would work well. The RAM could be inserted like laptop RAM is, but full sized 240-pin DDR3. The one thing about this is the fact it's watercooled (dur). Manufacturers might have a hell of time with warranties and such, because we know anything that's watercooled has the possibility of leaking. A custom computer builder could probably do it though. I'm not sure where the radiators would go, though. Maybe on the top or bottom. Assuming this PC has a larger monitor (22"+), then there shouldn't be much problem with spacing out components. A full sized ATX board should be able to fit just fine, but whether someone would actually use a full sized ATX for this is a different question. I'm not one that's crazy about thinness, I care more about durability, but this was just an idea that popped into my mind as I was working. I usually steer towards team red, but for this computer, I think intel/nvidia might be best, since they're stereotyped to produce less heat. It's probably stupid, but it'd be cool if someone did it, if someone hasn't already. Thoughts? note this isn't fully thought out at all. Just a quick thought.

Hey guys and gals! I am in need of a pretty solid gaming laptop Now I know that people will say to build a PC, but I already have!!! I just travel a lot for work and I can't bring a desktop PC 99% of the time.It needs to be thin and fairly light, I can bring a laptop cooling pad if necessary for extra cooling. It needs to be relatively "future proof" for at least 3-4 years hopefully the latter or more. It needs to be at least i7 4710HQ 16 gb RAM 1 tb HDD GTX 970m 6gb at least 15.6 in diagonal screen but no more than 17 in 1080p 60hz and it would be nice to have an SSD OS drive Needs to have decent battery life, at least 3 hrs while web browsing I have been looking at these laptops Aorus X7 pro: MSI GS60 Ghost Pro-064: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152686 The x7 pro is about the max of my budget, but I would like it to be in the under $2000 range. I can splurge to get the x7 pro or a laptop of equal or lesser price if necessary. Any other Recommendations for laptops?

http://www.androidcentral.com/we-go-hands-sharp-aquos-crystal Copied from above. Sprint has recently announced the Sharp Aquos Crystal and we were very eager to see it in person. Tonight, at an event in New York City, Sprint has shown off this device with stunningly-slim bezels. It's heading to the carrier Sprint and its prepaid Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile brands. Interested? Watch our hands-on video and photos! The Sharp Aquos Crystal features a 5-inch 720p screen with very little bezel on the top and sides. There's an 8-megapixel camera on the back with 1.2MP on the front, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8 GB for storage, and an embedded 2040mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Other key features include Harman's LiveStage, which adds dimension to sound, and Clari-Fi technology, which improves digital sound quality by restoring all types of compressed digital music. Another interesting feature is a subscription service called App Pass that allows customers to access a hand-selected catalog of premium apps and games for $4.99 per month after a 14-day free trial. This is exclusive to Sprint in the United States. The App Pass catalog is curated with some of the world's top developers including Gameloft and Oceanhouse Media. It also includes select titles from other developers such as OfficeSuite 7 Pro, Camera Zoom FX, Minuum Keyboard, CamScanner and Color & Draw for Kids. We're not used to seeing slim bezels on most smartphones, but after playing with the the Aquos Crystal, we'd like to see more manufacturers do the same thing. It makes devices with big screens feel much better to hold. They are coming up with a more powerful version soon.

Thanks for looking at this thread.

What can you guys say about the slimmer ATX motherboard sizes that are becoming more common? It gets in my nerves when some screw holes where standoffs should have been placed are showing, and of course the cables travelling longer from the cable holes/grommets. Do you think another standard should be thought of? Or at least be implemented in some ATX cases? ASRock was popular for doing this "slimmer" ATX, just like their Z77 Extreme4 but they're back to the standard ATX now. Gigabyte now uses this slimmer ATX size for almost all their boards except for top tier ones. This is what I'm specifically talking about: (image from tonymacx86, via Google)
