I am writing this topic as a critique on a episode released 4 years ago, in which Linus and his crew test surround sounds solutions in a rather simplistic methodology. The solutions tested are shown below. Now here is the critique: most headsets are referred to as software solutions. This however sketches an incomplete picture as each software solution is tested with possibly a different headset. Consequently, this favors Dolby Atmos as the best solution cause it is likely tested on the corsair hs50. Which is known for its superior imaging capabilities. What imaging is: Imaging qualities are inherent to the audio content; the headphones have to 'reproduce' them rather than 'create' them. They determine how accurately the objects are positioned in the stereo image and how transparent the imaging is. In other words: it measures the differences between the right and left speaker. This is often measured in both latency and phase delay. Headsets with correct imaging produce identical sounds in both ears at the same time, while bad imaging produces non identical sounds at different delays. Now it might be understandable how imaging can influence surround sound effectiveness and how it incorrectly shows the performance of for example DTS as a surround solution. Here is how the surround sound should have been compared: Software solutions should have been tested on the same hardware. Eliminating the differences in imaging between headsets. Then each and every hardware solution should have been tested with every possible software solution. Fun fact: did u know that the Razer Tiamat 7.1 is compatible with Dobly Atmos Home Theater?!? Interestingly Razer also warns users about incorrectly setting up the audio on their pc, as not properly enabling surround sound on the computer can result in only 2 out of the 7 audio channels to be properly used by the computer. Final Thoughts: I really hope this video gets revisited sometime cause it hurts me to see how the industry has changed due to this video. True surround headsets are no longer being produced like they used to, while Dolby Atmos is being referred to as the holy grail. But when it comes down to it, the tests were performed rushed and incomplete. Currently the best way of comparing actual surround is by using https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tests/changelogs as their tests were performed more accurately. The only thing that they are still missing is the comparison between software solutions. Greetings, G3NTs Here the video in question:

Hey All! Just a preface, my system is a ryzen 3 3300x, 32gb ram, 750watt power suply, and evga nvidia 670. I have 3 monitors, 1 (27" 1080p monitor), 1 (27" 1440p monitor), and 1 (34" ultrawide 1440p monitor). I know my GPU is absolutely underpowerd for this, so I plan on upgrading to an rx6600 soon, but for now, I have a couple questions. Does the 600 series have surround? On the surround page on the nvidia website, it says 700 series or newer, but the page for the 670 claims that it has surround. Additionally, If i turn down both 27" monitors to 1920x1080p and the 34" monitor to 2560x1080p, can I run surround? could I just make the game windowed mode and stretch it out, or is there a way to run full screen (perferred) Thanks! Also, if I need to use 3 different cables, 1 dp for the ultrawide, an hdmi for the 1440p 27", and a dvi for the 1080p 27", would that work?
-
So I have 2 24 inch 2 1080p monitors and one 27 inc 1080p monitor in surround and the disconnect is horrible between them would there be a way to crop what the bigger monitor displays so there is no cut off

My Asus motherboard has a DAC inbuilt. If I connect the motherboard to 5.1 home theatre via optical SPDIF, will it output 5.1 surround audio in games (that support it) or standard 2-channel stereo? Also how do I check 5.1 audio is being outputted to the home theatre or not?

Hey guys, I recently bought Rainbow Six Siege and the games audio is pretty bad, I'm unable to distinguish where footsteps noises are coming from and the audio settings only consist of master volume, music, and dialogue. I'm trying to find a way if I can make the application run in Dolby or any form of surround sound, and if I could also have an equalizer for that application only as a bonus. Preferably accomplishing this without any external programs, and I'm using windows 10. Thank you.

I want to use existing speakers i have as speakers behind me and i was wondering if there was a product of some kind that splits audio into different channels like front left/right and back left/right. I'm not too well versed in all of this and don't want to spend an arm an and a leg for a whole setup. Sorry if this sounds weird or anything just hoping for the best. thanks for any help

How do I know whether my Motherboard supports 2.1 vs 5.1 surround sound systems? Manual says next to nothing about the actual capabilities. Was thinking of purchasing this > https://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/z607-surround-sound-system as a surround system throughout my room. Not sure if it requires a sound card or simple audio jacks / Bluetooth. Any help appreciated. (photo of my audio jacks of my motherboard MSI X570 Gaming Edge WiFi) Any and all help appreciated, cheers.

Helloo, I have a 5.1 audio system which works in general, but not on my current configuration from god knows what reason, and that's why I'm here, to get some help. The audio system is a Genius SW-5.1 3000, motherboard is a Gigabyte B550i Aorus Pro AX. OS is Windows 10 Pro 19042.906 . I configured it in "mmsys.cpl" to a 5.1 surround, I pressed Test and everything works. I opened YouTube, I hit Play on my Playlist, and surprise, it only works in Stereo (Front Left and Front Right Speakers). No Center/Subwoofer, no Rear Speakers. Tried a couple of games and in some seems to be working, but other than that... no. Before upgrading the computer, I used a Dedicated Audio Card, Asus Xonar, and I used to have surround everywhere. Reinstalled my drivers after doing a clean uninstall of them, but the problem persists. Installed Realtek Audio Console to have more control, but no luck with it. Played a bit with the settings in Audio Console and I found a few things: if I activate Bass Management, then the subwoofer works but it's tied to the front speakers. If I test them, the subwoofer makes sound as well. if I activate and Environment effect, then the subwoofer makes a bit of sound. Just barely. if I assign every port to Front Speakers and change the Speaker Configuration to Stereo, then every speaker will work but it will become tied to the front speakers. Bellow you can see how I assigned my Back Panel. I tried switching them around but it still doesn't work. I'm totally out of ideas.

I prefer to not wear headphone because one of my ears hurt when wearing them. So, does anyone have any recommendations for monitors and maybe a dac to use? So far, I'm thinking, KRK classic 5 Studio Monitors. https://www.andertons.co.uk/krk-classic-5-studio-monitor-bundle-w-cables-and-foam-pads?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=surfaces&gclid=CjwKCAiAl-6PBhBCEiwAc2GOVM-kJA4Dq8mfuR2YBoR6qPpKDFmaQCsHHBzreODIMK39vPt19cyNmBoCDMUQAvD_BwE Buy stands for them have them to the left and right of me, using stands or clamps on my desk. Then I use a spark 40 amp that I have my pc connected to currently. I also use that for guitar playing, so that has the guitar plugged into it. My ideal situation is, having the Spark 40 as my front speaker, then the KRK monitors as left and right channels. Is this possible and is it a good idea. I want to play games using it too. Would this even be a good idea to do it like this or is there a better way?

So, as of late I have been wanting a surround gaming setup again. I used to have an AMD Eyefinity setup with 3 identical 60hz panels when I was younger that I traded to me for some other parts. I "upgraded" from a Samsung 49" 144hz panel to a Benq Zowie 240hz 27" not too long ago and never regretted it. The only issue I have is screen size. I ended up getting 2 HP 60hz monitors that look similar for a total of 3. but the issue is, I can't run the zowie at a different refresh rate from the 2 60hz wing panels. I have been reading about it for a while looking for a way and, I really don't see the issue here other than maybe motion sickness and tearing. if let's say I wanna play Minecraft, I can just drag the window across the screens and it works fine. Is there a way to set a custom resolution to trick games so they just span across all the screens? My current solution is using a script to toggle on and off Eyefinity on my stream deck and it works but it's just frustrating for FPS games. I am not saying I am going to play CS:GO like this but would be nice to play classics like BF4 where I can have a live web map on my TV above my monitors and play it on surround whitout having to run it at 60hz. And please dont just tell me to buy 2 more zowies, i need the other displays for work and colour accuracy.

Hello there, I was wondering if there's a way to somehow trick Nvidia Surround to use three different resolution displays. I found this Nvidia forum post, but was unable to get the same results. The thing is, I use an Nvidia Tesla K20x and pass the image through to another Nvidia GPU (currently a GT 710, but I have many others laying around): after changing the EnableMsHybrid values in regedit, I tricked Windows into thinking the other GPU is a power-saving card, and the Tesla - a high performance one, as if it was a 2-GPU laptop. That means, I can't use an AMD GPU and its superior Eyefinity for display (like I did before getting the Tesla), because I was unable to make Windows think it's a power saving card. What that also means is I can't run a game in windowed (or borderless) mode and span it across all of the displays, because then it only uses 70% of the Tesla's power, which results in dramatically lower performance. So, my configuration is - 1 30" HP Z30i (2560x1600) in the middle, and two 21" Eizo S2100's rotated by 90 degrees (1200x1600). When I tried to run Surround with and without said workarounds, it always resulted with all monitors setting to 1600x1200, which is not optimal, to say the least. If there's absolutely no way to make it work correctly, I guess I'll just have to buy a weaker Ryzen APU and replace my 1600AF with it, just for Eyefinity. I'd be very grateful for any help or hints as to what could possibly work. Thanks in advance!

Hello there. __Introduction__ I've recently been setting up my home theater equipment in a new apartment, but I have been experiencing a few problems down the road. Most notably, loss of audio. Due to the handful of devices connected, there wasn't enough HDMI-in ports on my AV receiver. To get around this, I've invested in a HDMI switch, so I can take on more signals from various devices. Since my AV receiver handles the surround sound speakers, everything goes through that. __The Problem__ Temporarily, my consoles would send the signal to the AV receiver, which would then send the signal to the TV, so no problems there. However, to get more inputs, everything went from the consoles, through a HDMI switch, then to an AV receiver, then finally to the TV. But for some reason, this kills the audio signal entirely. None of the consoles detect an audio output anymore, so the speakers remain silent (both on the AV receiver and TV). If there's only 1 "middle man" in this chain (HDMI Switch or AV Receiver), then both audio and video works fine. But if both are added to the chain, the audio is lost entirely, and not even shown as an output on any of the consoles. __Alternatives__ I'm currently thinking of a workaround, where the consoles would send video to the TV directly, and audio would be sent to the AV receiver via TOSLINK for audio. Once I get the necessary cables, I'll be trying that out. __Components__ - Samsung UE32ES635U - LG HB965TZ - Delcato HDMI-7044 - PlayStation 3 Super Slim - Xbox ONE - Xbox 360 Original

Hello! After changing my motherboard from an MSI to ASUS TUF Gaming B550 Plus I can no longer find a feature in Realteks audio panel called Bass management, which made sure that when Speaker Fill is enabled it would route the bass sections of other channels to the subwoofer instead. I looked in Asus' Realtek Audio Control app, and control panels Realtek HD Audio Manager but it's nowhere to be seen. Without it my whole surround setup sounds dry, and just equalizing the sound won't help, as none of the upmixing/speaker fill goes towards my subwoofer at all. Even when putting it up to +10db via room correction I still get 0 sound coming to the subwoofer. I know the subwoofer works though. When playing multichannel audio the subwoofer does receive sound. I have all the latest bios and software updates that Asus wants me to have. I even wrote to Asus support and they replied with "try equalizing it, we don't have such a feature". I'm sure it must exist, I had it on my previous MSI motherboard which has a realtek chip too, and it worked just fine. What should I do to get the feature back. Install drivers directly from realtek, and if which one? Thanks ahead! Dj~

Hey guys, first time posting here so forgive me if i say something that's not allowed. I'm looking for an audio solution for my entertainment area. Currently it's in my room, it's a 4x4 m room, not very big, and the tv is a 43' LG Led tv. In a fewonths i'd be moving to a small apartment that just has one area, aproximately a 6x4 m home, so i'm trying to find something that could fit both. I was looking both at soundbars and home theaters sets. Specifically i was tempted by the LG SN4 that comes with a wireless sub, and for home theater i thought the Z607 from logitech could be pretty good. But i don't know much about audio products outside the headphones line. Do you guys know what would suit better? I just want the best audio i can find at an affordable price, that's compatible with Dolby Atmos. Setting it up is not a problem so i don't consider the simplicity of a soundbar to be a selling point against a full array of HT speakers. I'm open to other options of course, but if posible something that allows the feature of the tv to combine the audio both with it's integrated speakers as well as the audio output device connected via bluetooth or optical. Please help, thanks in advance.

Hello, Looking to add a sound upgrade to the TV in the living room. Don't want to spend too much as the TV was only £800 a number of years ago. TV is about 3.5m away in the middle of the wall. Room is 4x5m. There are plug sockets in each corner so a sound system with satellite speakers would be an option. Would have to be wireless speakers. A very nice to have would be if it has an option to pair 2+ Bluetooth headsets at the same time so we can listen while the little one sleeps. All of the TV smart functions are provided by a shield TV pro. Suggestions please

Hi all- My family is in the process of building a new home and in addition to running ethernet cables my dad wants to run speaker wire for his stereo in the wall. We are hoping to use either 14 or 12 AWG wire since some of the runs could be quite long (up to 80-100ft). We only need 2 wire cable instead of I see some are 4 wire. What cable brands have you guys had luck with? There are so many options it is almost overwhelming. We need a 500ft spool. I was trying to stay away from the CCA cable since I know that is not as good as pure copper, but the listings for the wire has that information buried so you don't notice it. Thanks all

I have a Triple monitor set up where the left monitor is portrait, the centre monitor is landscape and the right monitor is portrait (flipped) I did this to minimise the Bessel amount as the bottoms are facing away and all the resolutions are all the same vertically, the centre monitor is different from the others and I would love to surround them all but Nvidia surround settings only lets you change all of them to portrait or landscape... and not individually? thank you! monitors left and right - Philips 17S centre - Viewsonic VX2739 GPU - wind force GTX 970

Hello to anyone seeing this I have a pretty old PC running Win10. I just got some stuff from my dad, his old Sony TV and his Harman Kardon 5.1 AVR. I put one of the HDMI outputs from my GPU to the AVR input, then sent the AVR output to the TV. Then configured the playback device to be 5.1 Surround and the AVR to 5channel auto. I ran into two issues. Funnily, the surrR and surrL speakers are mixed up. I'm using the configure menu to play sounds on each individual speaker for testing (image below). I tried swapping these weird exposed copper cables in the back between SL and SR multiple times but it doesn't output the right sounds still. These cables have no proper cable heads and just go into this hole in the back held in by a latch. There's one for every speaker labeled appropriately. The second issue is that when I tried playing a youtube surround test video, (similar sample testing videos), only L,R,C and the subwoofer show output. Chrome and Edge both ignore the surround speakers altogether (youtube, netflix etc). I'm very new to home theaters and TVs altogether so please shed some light onto these matters if you have a sec please. Thank you!

Yo. Just wondering if anyone knows any good alternatives for the A50s, I love the sound I get from them and want something very close if not better. I was looking at the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless but read a review from someone who owned both that the Arctis doesn't have the same all around your sounds that the A50s have, so they are out of the question. I'll be using them on my PC, PS5 and Switch using a USB Sharing Switch.

Hi, so I recently purchased a TV (a Samsung TU7020 to be exact) and while it does not have RAC out or AUX out, it does have Optical and eARC. Doing a bit of digging I found (through this website : https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/inputs/5-1-surround-audio-passthrough ) that it should support passthrough of 5.1 sound through the optical and HDMI. The question is what do I need to put between my TV and my 5.1 system (which is a Logitech Z607 ) to make it work. Ideally I would like so that anything connected to the TV woud passthrough its audio through HDMI into the TV then into the speakers with the sound only comming out of them. Is this even possible ? If it is what are/is the best solution ? Thank you for any help you give me as I'm quite new to anything sound related that isn't a soundbar.

I just got myself a surround 5.1 System from Logitech, and I really like it. Now popped into my head, that maybe I should lay down some cables and install speakers everywhere in the house, as to have music everywhere whats the limit? Is there a limit ? What kind of Hardware would I need, If I wanted for example to install Speakers in 2 Stories with each 3 Rooms. Im a complete Novice when it comes to Audio systems, so dont be too hard on me

Hello, I noticed that my dads setup isn't capable of Dolby 5.1, but just L/R spread to 5.1... Connected devices that he wants to be 5.1 are: PS4 (PS5 in future) which has DIGITAL/OPTICAL (and maybe HDMI Dolby is possible too) Raspberry Pi 4 (has only HDMI...maybe there is some HAT add-on, but that's another spending) Set-top box/TV channels (not that important, but it would be cool - has HDMI and DIGITAL/OPTICAL OUT) I wanted to upgrade to other receiver as he doesn't want to swap speakers, because (and I quote) "they are just fine for me". But those speakers are 3 ohms and I couldn't find any receivers that support 3 ohm speaker sets. So I figured out that "new" (can be used) receiver and speakers are inevitable. But big ooof. Every listing for receiver I found and doublechecked it's manual...it turns out that they support audio over HDMI, but not how I want it. They take the audio signal and pass it to HDMI OUT (to the TV). Last affordable receiver I found is Sony STR-DG520 and it says this: So DIGITAL OUT from TV back to the receiver? It's messy, but okay...I will get my 5.1 aud~ ooooh nooo! Dad's TV outputs only 2.0 via OPTICAL...well, if I understand it correctly: Do I understand this correctly and this receiver won't have 5.1 audio that would be outputted from Raspberry over HDMI to receiver, which would pass it to TV? It would pass even the audio to TV and not to connected speakers...and if I connected DIGITAL OUT from TV to receiver, it would only send 2.0 channel audio? I'm willing to go for any receiver (+speakers either separately or with it) for 400$, but it has to work with previously mentioned devices on our Samsung TV (PS50A457P1DXXH) and allow us to finally enjoy 5.1. Is there a way to make it work with some receiver or is it necessary to upgrade even the TV? HDMI ARC is the new hot thing if I'm correct... Thanks a lot!

Hello I'm thinking of picking up this complete set up for a home theater setup (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01FWRZR94?tag=camelcasearches-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&language=en_CA) I can save a bit of money buying the package then buying them separately. Each speaker seems to be rated for 100-145watts max. And I've been looking around for some receivers, I know some people recommend going with a system were I get a pre-amp, amp, etc. But I'd rather just 1 box that can do it all. I found this one on amazon and took a look at some reviews, I love all the features and would be happy paying the price for it, (Granted I would get it probably on sale) (https://www.amazon.ca/Sony-STRDH790-Multi-Channel-Bluetooth-Component/dp/B079YW5VQL/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=STR-DH790&qid=1619405813&sr=8-2) A lot of reviews said it would run at 90 watts continuous, with 145watts peak. That sounds great, I'm sure the speakers would sound great at 90 watts continuous, probably loud?? (I'm new to this and not sure if that is really loud or just normal listening volume) MY MAIN QUESTION: The reviews also said that the receiver will do 90 watts, 2 channel driven. Well, that means my other speakers, center, rear, and top. Would not be getting enough power, right? The subwoofer is powered, so I Wouldn't have to worry about that, but wouldn't only 2 channels driven at 90 watts cause my other speakers to be very low in volume? I plan to also enable Dolby Atmos if that helps any! Thank you so much for any of all information!

Does anyone have any information if Bedrock Minecraft will work with multiple monitors? I would imagine using Nvidia Surround it would be fine. If so, will running multiple monitors on a path traced game such as Minecraft RTX impact performance enough to make it not feasible?
