A few months ago I bought a Supermicro tower server. I have been using 4 (+1 boot) SATA SSD drives and running TrueNAS Scale on it. Just now I switched out the SATA cabels that were connected directly to the motherboard to an HBA. And now the server won't turn on. And I don't mean it wont POST or BOOT. It won't even power on. When I disconnect the HBA and the PCIE riser, it POSTS fine. Even if I only connect the riser by itself with nothing at the other end of it, same issue. I tried two different risers and same thing happens. The HBA is a Broadcom 9300-16i, but since the problem happens even without it connected I don't think it's an issue. Is it just some BIOS setting I am missing? Is my motherboard faulty? Here are the specs: Mainboard: Supermicro X9DRW-IF CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon 2680 V2 RAM: 16 x 16 GB DDR3 1333 MHz ECC PSU: 500 W (Bronze)

hello, everyone, I am evaluating building a NAS for the company, I have already reviewed quotes from various brands such as 45Drives, IXsystem, etc., but I found this chassis that has everything in terms of hardware, double control unit, disk bays, etc., the problem is that Unlike the other brands, this is just hardware, and I need to add the necessary software to run the NAS, no problem, I have already installed Truenas but not in an HA configuration with SAS disks, I don't know the limitations and I would like comments on this. Budget (including currency): Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Storage server for my VMware ESXi host Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): My esxi host specs: Supermicro 743 chassis, redundant PWS-920P-SQ PSUs, X9DR3-F, dual xeon E5-2620 (v2) would be adequate, 256 GB RAM, and currenly H700 raid with pairs of 4TB drives in Raid 1 config. (I only want to run Raid 1. Period.) My esxi host runs a small number of VMs: 1x Windows DC, 1x Exchange 2010 singe host, 1x Windows server for fileshare, 1x Windows server for misc things, and 1x Windows 10 desktop. I need to build a storage server for my ESXi host.... My plan is to migrate my VMs from the H700 DAS storage to the storage server. NFS/iSCSI I do not mind what storage networking used. All my servers exist in a 2nd bedroom in an appartment... so no screaming data center fans allowed! (MY Supermicro 743 chassis is heavily modified with noctua fans to provide enough airflow and manage to be quieter than my existing 8x 4TB WDC Gold drives) I regret I waited so long to buy a used Supermicro CSE-846 chassis. A few years ago there were LOTS of options! These days the 846 chassis is rare. I am really impressed with my 2x Super Micro 920W "PWS-920P-SQ" power supplies: 80 Plus Platinum + redundant + quieter than hard drives!!! I like the 846 chassis because it has more drive bays than I need... so I can space out my drives and get air. I also like the 846 chassis because it has A LOT of room inside to swap fans out for quieter ones. Unless I stumble across a left over CSE-846 unicorn of chassis.................... I may need to look for alternatives. Quiet server inspirations:

Hi, so have no idea why this is happening. It started after I updated Plex on one of my VMs in Proxmox. Before that, it worked fine. To be honest, I did not try to run the system without my drives, but this will be my next step. So, I am a little confused if you have some advice or thing to test, please let me know, it was kinda expensive system for me. Specs: CPU: AMD Epyc 7551p MB: Supermicro h11ssl-i RAM: 64 GB skhynix 2666 ECC Boot drive: M.2 Samsung 980 1tb Powersupply: bequiet System Power 9 700W No GPU

So, I bought a CPU motherboard combo from eBay. It was supposedly to be a Supermicro mobo H11SSL-i with an AMD Epyc 7551. I connected it to the Network got an ip address from the DHCP and i could connect to it over the webinterface. I looked around and found out that the cpu they send was an AMD Epyc 7302. I looked around on the menus and found in POST Snooping that the bios code was 16. In this manual(https://www.supermicro.com/manuals/other/AMI_BIOS_POST_Codes_for_Grantley_Motherboards.pdf) it says that it is a "0x16 Pre-Memory North Bridge initialization (North Bridge module specific)" error. So am i correct with thinking it is a memory issue here? Also I did not connect the 4 pin on the top left. SPECS: Processor: AMD EPYC 7302 16-Core Processor MOBO: Supermicro H11SSL-i RAM : Kingston FURY Beast 64GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL16 (x2) PSU: beQuiet 700W

I am hoping someone here can help give me a lead on what memory to purchase for my supermicro X11SSL based NAS. I am trying to find a 64Gb kit and coming up empty. I am scowering the internet (eBay, PCPP) but the only kits I have found are fully buffered, out of stock, or extremely expensive. Does anyone have a good tool/resource for sourcing unreg ECC DDR4? Thanks in advance!

I have just finished my server build with the following hardware: SuperMicroX10SRA-F (rev 1.01) Intel Xeon E5-2680 V4 Kingston Server Premier RAM 2x8GB sticks of 2400 MHz Reg ECC CL17 288 pin PC4 (Kingston KSM24RS8/8MEI) attached according to instructions in first two blue slots DIMMA1 and DIMMB1. be quiet! Pure Power 11 600W As I finished the build, I tried the first boot. Everything seemed fine but I am not getting any video output. I have tried two options: 1) connecting motherboard output from VGA to the monitor (via VGA/VGA cable + VGA/HDMI adapter), that doesn’t work; 2) I have attached PNY Quadro P1000 and connected monitor via Mini Display Port/HDMI cable. That doesn’t work either. The VGA jumper is set by default to 1-2 (ON). The error display was reading: “00” I tried disconnecting everything unnecessary from the MOBO including SATA drives. I have also tried to reduce RAM to just one stick in the first blue slot. I also tried to reset CMOS. None of these attempts worked. Now after the CMOS clear the error display reads: “62 - installation of the south bridge runtime service” After this I contacted Supermicro technical support and based on their suggestion I resit the CPU and checked the pins (they are fine). I also tried to run the system with no RAM. I got alarm and error "53" by doing that. But at least it fixed the error 62 and I am back to 00 with no video output still. Does anyone have an idea what is going on and how could yo I solve the issue? Thank you in advance guys for any ideas!

I have couple of Servers in my basemant serverfarm, and some offer ipmi with the supermicro boards, since I've never made use of them, Id like to know of those who actually use them on a daily basis. What do you usally use it for ? Since there seems to be lots of thing you could maintain from that ui thanks in advance

I have been looking around for a short-depth 4U server chassis for a project, and one that I found very suitable was the Supermicro SuperChassis 842XTQ-R606B. However, it retails for around $800, which seems quite a lot for just a chassis. I get that it comes with two 600W 80Plus Platinum PSUs (say ~$300), but still it doesn't explain why the rest is worth $500. What's the difference between this chassis and one from e.g. iStarUSA that costs ~$150? Are there any cheaper but high-quality alternatives that you would recommend?

Hi, So yesterday I did a rebuild of my Unraid server as I got a good deal on a Supermicro H8DCL-i board which also came with two Opteron 4184's, I bought 32GB of Samsung M393B1K70DH0-YK0 Registered Memory rated at 1600MHz, but they are only running at 1333MHz in bios. I have 4 sticks of 8GB each, in two slots for each CPU as its a Dual cpu board, there's not much options in memory, its either Auto or Manual and manual has a range from 200MHz to 933MHz under Memroy clock speed. In Theory 800MHz should result in 1600MHz if I'm correct but even setting that option doesn't change the speed the ram is running at. I've followed the Memory matrix to a T in the motherboard manual, here's the link to my board. https://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/motherboard/Opteron4000/SR56x0/H8DCL-i.cfm I'm new to server boards, so could this be an incompatibility as this particular ram isn't on the tested memory list? Anyone have experience with Supermicro boards? Also, could it be related to the CPU's? This board supports newer processors and the manual doesn't explain if theres a ram limitation on which generation of CPU. Thanks in advance!

Hello All and happy new year! Quick question for you all, I'm currently building a home server and picked up a used 1st Gen Epyc from a Dell Server. I put it into a Supermicro H11SSL-NC motherboard. But I can't seem to get it to POST. I borrowed my buddies Epyc that he has plus his RAM from his PowerEdge server but it still did not POST. I have sent my motherboard back to supermicro twice already (posted both times for them) and have tried a different power supply. I've made some calls and did some googling but no one seems to know if a Dell Epyc is actually compatible with a SuperMicro motherboard. I'm assuming Dell might put some microcode onto the cpu? CPU: AMD 7601 (from a poweredge server) MB: supermicro h11ssl-nc RAM: SKynix 32GB 2666 ECC memory (they came with the CPU), But I also tried some supported Samsung memory and still no POST. TL:DR - Should a Dell Eypc CPU work in a Supermicro Motherboard? If not, are there any workarounds?

Good Day, I have recently started to have interest in building Gaming PCs, so I tried to build my own one with a budget of 700 Dollars. And I must say, everything went well until I found out that it wasn't that easy as it sounded.... My problem is that I have no Idea if my motherboard can handle my ram. After installing everything, I tried to look at my BIOS and coudnt locate the Xmp section nor a way to overclock my ram. I have currently a Supermicro C7h270- cg-ml motherboard and bought 2x DDR4 3200 2400mhz with it. One more thing is, that I bench marked my PC and it tells me that my ram is not using its full power. So, can anyone help me how I can fix the power problem with my ram? Or did I just mess up when I bought it? Any kind of information would be very helpful! Thank you very much!

So i bought a supermicro server borad to play around with, but decided to get unraid on it, after many hours of fiddling around with getting it to boot from bios, i found a half decent way to do it. it requires 2 boots to get it to boot from the usb drive, and i need to in the bios the second time, problem is now it wont recognize when i hit delete on boot, i have teste with both usb and ps/2 keyboard with no help. i pulled the cmos battry and botted it, but no changes after tha. I really wanna get this server up and running soon, anyone have any tips for me?

Hello everyone, I bought a Supermicro based 1-U server a few months ago that I made a short post about. The only thing I really use it for is a Minecraft Server. While this seems trivial, I've used it as a way for me to learn more about Linux, and things like MySQL, as I have chosen MineOS TurnKey as the OS. It's been up for a few months and the players are really liking it, they even donated about 200-300 US dollars this month. They complain a lot about the TPS, or Ticks Per Second, after doing some snooping, I think I've sourced it to the CPU's they are two quad core Xeons clocked at 2.0 Ghz. They are kinda old, from the Harpertown or Clovertown series. As I have recieved enough donations from the players, I'd like to upgrade the processors in the server. My question is two-fold. 1 Would it be better to upgrade to two dual core cpu's clocked at a higher speed, or upgrade to two better quad cores with a lower speed. Remember, this servers main goal is to run very few things I.E: Os, Minecraft, MySQL, and PHPMyAdmin. 2 Which core do you think we should choose to go into the server. The motherbord can be viewed here: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon1333/5000V/X7DVL-E.cfm We have a budget of $250 and are located in The United States, Indiana. We aren't looking to replace the server. Edit: Here is what the website for the motherboard said it could support: Dual 771-pin LGA Sockets Supports up to two Intel® 64-bit Xeon® processor(s) of the same type below: Quad-Core Intel® Xeon®Processor 5400/5300 sequence (Harpertown /Clovertown processor) up to 3.16 GHz Dual-Core Intel® Xeon®Processor 5200/5100/5000 sequence (Wolfdale /Woodcrest/Dempsey processor) up to 3.40 GHz

I have a Supermicro X9DBL-3F motherboard for a home server running Centos 6. The motherboard, which has no USB3.0 ports, is installed in a Supermicro CSE-732D case which has a pair of USB 3.0 ports and the blue connector for the 20 pin header. I put an Orico PVU3-502I USB 3.0 card in the system. It boots fine, but Centos 6 doesn't have driver support for the card. I tried putting a Vantec UGT-PC345, which is on the Centos supported chipset list, in the system, but the motherboard refuses to boot. It just freezes during the POST ad nothing more. I tried pulling all the other cards short of the video and moving the USB card to other slots, but the system just keeps freezing during POST. I've disabled UEFI in the BIOS for the Centos install. Does anyone have any ideas? Any experience with Supermicro server boards and USB 3.0 cards? I'm willing to change the OS to Centos 7 or Fedora 24/25 if either of the USB 3.0 cards wouldl be supported. Thanks. Frank

I'm definitely struggling with this seemingly eternal server project. I started with a Super Micro SuperChassis 933T-R760B with dual AMD Opteron 280s. This was an issue for me because running FreeNAS through a hardware RAID is definitely nothing anyone should ever need to try. EVER. I soon bought a used X7DWE motherboard because of its compatibility with the CSE-933(T?) chassis in both size and power connector requirements. (This is why the X8 and newer boards were out immediately) http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon1333/5400/X7DWE.cfm This was then paired with a set of X5472 processors (obviously I overlooked the maximum TDP of the motherboard at 100W) in order to max out the capability of the FSB and maximum processor speed. http://ark.intel.com/products/34447/Intel-Xeon-Processor-X5472-12M-Cache-3_00-GHz-1600-MHz-FSB Adding a set of 4x8 GB (32GB Total) ECC sticks of DRAM proved to be no serious issue Finding and actually waiting for a LGA771 compatible passive heat sink proved to be a battle of its own. Cables were a pain. I had to manually find the generic equivalent of a 20-pin front panel connector because the original was too short for the new MoBo. There is still one connector that I left disconnected because the new MoBo doesn't have an equivalent connector. Super Micro calls it the JAR connector: Power supply alarm reset header. I also have nothing plugged into the J18: System Management Bus header on the X7. After attempting to boot this severely overpowered system, I was met with the lovely temperature LED on the front panel of the chassis. I soon realized my error in recognizing the TDP threshold and the (Very) low TCase set by Intel, and ordered a more reasonable 80W TDP pair of E5462s. This is where I need help... After installing the same LGA 771 passive coolers to the (theoretically) less heated processors, I was met with the same abysmal temperature warning light on the chassis. No boot, nothing but fans. If any of you kind souls would be willing to help, I would be forever in your "virtual debt equivalent." Sincerely, About to give up on this heavy piece of $#*^ X7-DWE Manual.pdf SC933.pdf

Hi all, I'm new to this forum but I've always been a fan for Linus/ncix tech tips. I appreciate any advice on the following matter: I'm looking to place my current rig that's in a phantom410 into a rack mount chassis. I've been looking at the Norco4224 where I can put my current 8 disks and nvidia gpus into the 24storage bay with expansion in mind in the future. However, I've also read that the Norco 4224 have been problematic, causing data loss. Are there any other alternatives? (I actually prefer supermicros, but are there any chassis that would fit atx motherboard with a gpu card). Please keep in mind that I'm not using this as a home server - it's my actual desktop that I sleep with in my room. I understand that these rackmount servers would be very loud; i currently have all noctua fans in my phantom410, will using noctual fans be quiet enough whilst at the same time keeping the rig cool enough. I thank you in advance! Regards, jim

So I'm planning on building a Xeon gaming system and I was wondering if the ram I have will work on this motherboard The motherboard is a Supermicro x8st3-f And the ram is a 2x8GB kit of Hyper X Blu 1333 Since it's a triple chanel board with this dual channel kit work?

I've been undertaking the task of building myself a dual Xeon workstation for school, work, and personal projects, such as CAD, editing, etc. I bought 2650v2's under the guise the were production samples, but they're ES, luckily, I paid less than what I'd pay for two 2670 production samples. The current BIOS does not support ES processors, and I'm curious if anyone has access to an older BIOS for the X9DRi-LN4F+, or is able to mod the BIOS itself into allowing ES chips?
