I am at the end of my rope here and I'm also annoyed at the lack of information in both my receiver's manual and online so please bear with me. I have this amplifier; Sony STR-DN1080 https://www.amazon.com/Sony-STRDN1080-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B06XKRWWSG And a friend sold me their subwoofer; WHARFEDALE PROGRAMME SUB https://www.ror.ie/products/wharfedale-programme-sub-black-whaprogrammesub.html The amplifier manual didn't state what cable I need to connect the subwoofer with, nor does it say if I need a passive or active subwoofer. But my friend assures me I don't need an active one, but then this thread seems to suggest the opposite. And also that I need an RCA plug to speaker cable adapter https://forums.tomsguide.com/threads/how-to-connect-passive-subwoofer-to-sony-strdn1080.209710/ So I got a RCA plug to Speaker cable adapter, and it fits in the Sub Out of the amplifier, but I am not hearing anything from the sub no matter what I do. I've set it to 4.1, its main menu shows a subwoofer and I can even set the level of the subwoofer. My Windows audio output is set to 5.1. When I use a multimeter to measure the current in the sub out cable, it's 0. When I measure the current in my front speaker cable it's non zero. So this to me suggests that the subwoofer isn't sending a signal to the sub out? It has 2 sub outs, and no where in the manual does it tell me why there are 2, and if I need 1 or 2 or both. But I've tried connecting the subwoofer cable to both sub outs and it doen't seem to work. I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what's going on Here is the manual for the amplifier btw. https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4686/1a5e9c2b4143ad36dd5cb360f2a11851/46865241M.pdf The sub out has a "Monoaural audio cable" written on it, but my friend has no idea what that is, and also I asked at like 3 stores that sell audio gear about a "Monoaural audio cable" and they also didn't know what it was. TLR; Connecting passive subwoofer to Sony STR-DN1080 with an RCA to speaker cable adapter and I've set the Sony to 4.1 but I don't hear anything from subwoofer

Hello, I want to build a system for my music experience to improve because right now it's pretty shitty. First I was looking at Z reviews and wanted to buy the Fluance Signature Series but they only ship in Canada and the U.S and I live in the UK. I'm a real newbie when it comes it sound but I do know I need to buy a Dac and a subwoofer. Also, my budget is 300 GBP, you guys got any suggestions? Thanks.

So i have teh chance to get my hands on a subwoofer (Dali Sub E-9 F) that will compliment my speakers (Dali Zensor 1) pretty well. The problem is i don't have any sub out on my amp (Dual CV 1460). It has speaker out for channel A and B and a "Tape 2/Monitor" output, but thats it. I don't know how I will be able to connect the sub to my amp if I were to buy it. SUB Backside: And AMP backside: I use the CD/AUX input for my pc, running through a Schiit Modi 2 DAC. And channel B for my speakers. I have not hooked up the ground as i tried this but it didn't help but made sound worse. Thanks in advance! B3rt1l PS. If you are just gonna call my 30+ year old amp shit or my dac useless, please don't reply at all, it's to no help

Hey guys, So I have a Samsung KS8500 and I was wondering what would be the best bang for my one hundred dollars, it can be a bit higher, but nothing too over the budget. I've been looking at some older Vizio 3.1 soundbars for my budget (I'm fine buying pre-owned), but then also see these "systems" than are 5.1 surround sound but are way cheaper than their soundbar alternative.. So.. What do you guys say? Needs: Bluetooth/Wireless, So I can play stuff from my phone, I don't care if I need to connect a cable to my tv or not. Just need bluetooth so my phone can connect to it. At least one subwoofer Under 100$ USD, I'm fine with ebay pre-owned equipment, as long as it's not too old.. Nothing too crazy, I still have to make my tv area generally nice, so nothing to exotic.. Don't care about brand, even if it's from RCA.. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2FTjuhtMnYZT1ZXOFVHY2ttTFE/view?usp=sharing

Okay so my girlfriends dad gave me a nice set of speakers. It has two satellite speakers, plus a sub. The sound is beautiful, until it gets ill. It has been ill for a week or so now. It makes an awful crackly static noise. It sounds like two industrial belt sanders fighting. The thing that makes no sense to me is there seems to be no obvious trigger, they were working fine for like 6 weeks, then all of a sudden in the middle of watching a movie, they started again and have been on and off since. They used to do this a lot, and then they would stop for a while then start, then stop, then start etc. etc. I think you get the point. It has proven impossible for me to diagnose. Make: Harman/Kardon Model: HK695 I have tried all of the following in an attempt to isolate the cause and NOTHING worked: Rebooting PC Reinstalling drivers Reinstalling windows (That wasn't because of this issue, but I have just reinstalled windows for another reason, and the speaker illness persists) Turning the speakers off and on while connected to PC, and while not (this works for like 30 seconds) Connecting the speakers to a different computer Powering the speakers from a different outlet Powering the speakers from a different house Adjusting the dials (Bass, Treble, Surround) - This occasionally serves as a temporary (5-10 minute) fix Unplugging the satellite speakers and testing the sub alone (tried this in conjunction with basically all of the above tests too) Kicking the sub (This surprisingly works best, I usually have to kick it many MANY times and it might eventually get better for 30-120 minutes) Swearing at it (this sadly doesn't work) Hoping it feels bad when I cry in despair (this also doesn't work) I will include a video of what the noise is once it starts again (I got mad and hit it and it stopped). Confused? (Yeah, so am I.) Ask away!

Greetings everyone I was wondering whether i can add additional speakers to my audio system. Currently i'm using Edifier P2060 2.1 Multi-media speakers. For audio output (directly from motherboard) details, i'm using Gigabyte H-170 Gaming 3 which has a 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel & Support for S/PDIF Out with an additional USB DAC-UP ports. My plan is to keep using the 2.1 speakers but when required i can hook car system audio (Box Subwoofer) like SONY XS-NW12022E , Pioneer - TS-WX305B , JBL CSX-1400BP 12" or anything of that kind along with the 2.1 speakers simultaneously. I've seen people use car speakers with a PSU but some people say it won't give you a good, clean audio experience. I want to use the additional Box Subwoofer by keeping them away from the workbench, in a corner of my room preferably. I need to know how will i connect it to my computer and also how will i power it.

Hi, im currently searching for a subwoofer, i have the SMSL AD18 as a Speaker amp and have my Jamo c-93 (my speakers) connected to them. now since i live in Germany it is kinda hard to find good stuff, i cant seem to find a good passive subwoofer that doesn't cost too much (max. = 300€). What i did find tho is several active subs, that have high lvl inputs like the Canton SUB 8.2, can i use those (high lvl inputs) to connect everything with each other ?

Hi there fellow users. I've decided to post here because I didn't see any car audio topic or some threads related to vehicles. I am planning to upgrade my vehicle's audio system, already composed of a Sony DSX A200UI headunit and some Sony speakers, 16,5cm(rear) and 13cm(front). The major upgrade consists in installing an amplifier (2 channel one that will be bridged) and a subwoofer. I already decided which subwoofer will it be. An ALPINE SWT-12S4, 12" subwoofer, 300W RMS, Maximum 1000w(peak probably) that can go from 28 to 25khz(which is awesome) and works on 4 ohms. Now the thing is, I want an amplifier that will have enough power to output to the subwoofer. And now since I am pretty low on budget, I took a look over two amps. One Alpine BBX-T600(2 chan) that only outputs 130w bridged at 4 ohms and a Crunch GPX 500.2 (2 chan) that could output 250w bridged at 4 ohms. The price between this two is exactly the same but I am not pretty sure on how the amps perform. Which one is better and blah-blah because I can't really find proper reviews for them. Please give me some advice.

I'm very new to a home sound setup but i recently bought a Sony SA-W2500 Active subwoofer (https://www.cnet.com/products/sony-sa-w2500/specs/) from my friend for dirt cheap. He didn't really tell me much other than that he used a Reciever to power it up along with speakers that honestly looked like pillars. Im really unsure as to what equipment i will be needing to make this baby work... It is a subwoofer after all so i will of course need speakers, not sure which type i should get though. My room is in the basement and its quite a big room (maybe 3 meters long and 5 meters wide, it has wood walls and is directly connected to the living room and a staircase going up, so it isn't exactly square shaped. So I'm looking for sound that can fill up my whole room consistently without me having to buy one of those surround sound packages which include several speakers, in this case i'm only looking for 2 speakers to fill the room. As I said, i have a subwoofer lying around which i want to work, and apparently my friend said u needed a reciever but theyre soo expensive ); If anyone has a lead on great speakers that fill an entire room, and something to make it all work then leave a comment! budget is about 260$ (might adjust)

Recently I purchased Samsung 49" Full HD Curved Smart TV K6500 with Samsung Soundbar. I have to keep everything tight because of the poor space. I have kept the sound bar underneath the TV and the subwoofer behind the TV very near. But I'm worried about it will effect to the TV. I know it's an LED TV. But I'm lil worried. If anyone know about this setup harmful for any of my devices please let me know. I'm willing to change the setup.

So I just got a Fusion 12" woofer 900w built in amp fitted into the boot of my Honda Coupe. One issue so far is that the woofer is constantly rumbling and playing bass even if there is no music playing. To get rid of it I had to turn the bass on the dial to as low as it'll go. With music playing I feel like it isnt giving as much of an "omph" of the bass as I had hoped rather it just rumbles constantly. All the cables that were used came with the woofer when I bought it, I went to a car audio place to get it fitted. Does this seem normal? Is it something to do with the wiring they screwed up?

Buy the Basslet on Amazon: http://geni.us/HvNrnr A subwoofer on your wrist? Sounds like a topic for "Useless Tech over $100"...And yet it isn't! The Basslet is kind of sweet- but is it worth $200?!

Hi guys, I am wondering if it is better to put the subwoofer on the computer desk or on the floor... Also how could i know if the subwoofer vibration is hurting or interfering with the computer components, ex: hdd, ram, etc... I currently know that shielded speakers would protect Electronic Components against the magnetic field... I currently have this speaker 2.1: http://klipxtreme.com/acoustixfusion-ii-2-1-stereo-speakers-with-usb-and-sd-playback-48w Notes: I was reading some forums with this same question... Users have their own preferences and opinions, but, i want to listen to an expert... maybe a sound engineer could answer this? Thanks!

Hi, Im looking for a sub, amplifier and help for my upcoming audio system. Me: Im a 18 years old boy from Norway (Sorry for the probably bad English). Im pretty interested in tech, everything from pc parts to audio interests me, though im not very good in the audio section yet. I know most things about headphones and have spend lots of money on headphones, I love'em. But in the past months speakers and that sort of stuff have been on my radar. My interests is gaming and sports. Stuff and specs: I dont know why you should need this information, but I though it might help you -PC: i5, 770 geforce gtx, 120gb ssd, 1t HDD, Descent motherboard - Other stuff: 2 samsung monitors (21 and 24), logitech g710+, Razer deathadder, xbox 360 controller (of course) - Audio: Byerdynamic dt770, bose qz 35, Sennheiser g4me zero, bose soundsport inear (2) - Big desk (As you can see no DAC or soundcard) Why do I want to buy a audio system (if that is what it is called in english): As a told you earlier I just wanted some speakers at the beginning (Maybe the logitech z906). But then suddenly out of nowhere my father didnt need 3 of his 5 speakers. His system consisted of 5 speakers, 1 sub, and a amplifier to 3500 EUR. So now I have 3 speakers from AE (acoustic elegance). I will attach a picture of them. They are 175 watts, 6ohm and have Middletone, bass and treble if that made any sence to you. So what was I looking for again: My upcoming system will be plugged into my pc. It will be used to listen to music, watch movies, videos and gaming. In the beginning I think I only have the budget for a 2.1 system. So I need your help to find a good sub, amplifier and a soundcard (Or DAC, your choice). My budget now is around 400 EUR or about 500 American dollars. Ask me for more information if I missed something If I/we cant find anything good I'll just buy the logitech z906 A thousands thanks!

Hello, I've been looking at purchasing a new set of PC speakers and I've been wondering whether it's better to go with a 2.0 set or a 2.1 set. The speakers would be general purpose - gaming, music, movies, etc. Now, I'm no audiophile, but I am halfway towards being one - I can definitely recognize when something sounds terrible. I need something halfway decent which will not drive me crazy. No great volume or bass which will make my neighbors kill me required. My budget is about 100€ and I've been looking at Edifier 1280T or Tascam VL-S3 for the 2.0 side. I've almost decided to buy the Edifiers, but I don't want to be sorry about getting a 2.0 set when I could have gotten a similarly price 2.1 set (Edifier M3200, for example). Any advice? Thanks!

I want to upgrade my car audio system. I installed a 5.1 surround system in my movie room, so I have a good understanding of wire impedance, receiver channels, speakers, amps, subs, etc. I have a few questions regarding car audio. I found that there are amplifiers for the normal speakers (the 4 in the doors), but not the sub, and then a separate amp for the sub. Are there amps that will power each speaker and the sub, or do I have to get an amp for the 4 speakers, and the sub seperately? Is an amp built into the dashboard music player thing, or do I have to buy a music dashboard thing and an amp seperately and find a place for the amp in my car? Also, are there form factors for the dashboard music thing like motherboards, or do I just take measurements and fine one that fits? Are the amps powered by the battery, meaning I would have to run a wire from the battery to the amp, or are there already wires coming from the battery strewn about the car? Also, if it does come from the battery, does this have a significant impact on Gas Mileage? Do speakers (and possibly sub) go directly to the amp with normal speakers wire (similair to what i may have used for my surround setup), or are there proprietary car connectors? Lastly, Do car's already come with subwoofers, in which case I could just put a new sub where the stock one is, or do they not come with subs and I just have to put it under a seat or something?

I purchased these Ceres C4.5Bt speakers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA18T3MJ5032&cm_re=ceres-_-9SIA18T3MJ5032-_-Product I connected a powered subwoofer to the Sub Out port on the back of these speakers. But I get a REALLY loud hum from the sub. I thought it might be the sub so I tried another powered subwoofer and it does the same. The Sub Out port is a 1/4 stereo jack port. So I'm using the adapter that came with it that changes it from a 1/4 in. headphone jack to RCA and using an RCA cable to connect them to my subwoofer. I read on their troubleshooting guide that a hum can be cause by a ground loop and that you should connect the power of the sub to the same power as the speakers. But they are so that is not the issue. I'm using a short RCA cable that is not running near any power cables so that's not the issue either. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm in North India and the echoing of sound is a big problem in my house so I have to get advice and your opinions. Thanks in adv.My living room dimensions: 22ft x 17 ft x 11 ft and it's open to Kitchen, Drawing Room and Main Entrance. My space pics:1 - https://imgur.com/a/QGd3XC82 - https://imgur.com/a/G2KGMZe3 - https://imgur.com/a/NTcH7ZU4 - https://imgur.com/a/rk5LiOq5 - Drawing room is right in front of the TV area: https://imgur.com/a/D1sYio4So, I have been researching a lot lately and found a couple useful subs for me, it's gonna be my first real audio purchase and I don't want to have intolerable compromises. So for the main frequencies I chose YAS-108 and I don't wanna hear about the downsides of soundbars as they are hated on r/budgetaudiophile, r/audiophile and r/avporn. Hence, I'm just concerned about getting an ideal sub for my living room. Actually confused between 10" and 12". The ones I shortlisted are: Polk Audio PSW10 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer (Single, Cherry) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B00030CHQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_IX56CbQT1KM01 (Rs. 18,900) [Fact check - It's Amazon.com's top-selling sub in fact and some users do report however that it sometimes gets boomy and that it doesn't perform good at higher volumes] Yamaha NS-SW100 https://www.amazon.in/Yamaha-100W-NS-SW-Subwoofer/dp/B06XRB1JZS [Fact Check - My favourite so far as it is the overall best value 10" sub I found so far but the aesthetics are considerably silent as the mesh grill seems non-removable but aesthetics are not my priority I just want accurate lows] Dayton SUB-1000 https://www.amazon.in/Dayton-SUB-1000-10-Inch-Powered-Subwoofer/dp/B0063NU3AA/ref=pd_rhf_se_s_cr_simh_1_1/257-3426226-0686741?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0063NU3AA&pd_rd_r=d6550fbc-ba32-475c-a680-6cafea7e9a86&pd_rd_w=U23sx&pd_rd_wg=8weLS&pf_rd_p=c0596f87-84a4-47f1-9082-813222812302&pf_rd_r=84ZBPS0CRQG1SJJVCKTN&psc=1&refRID=84ZBPS0CRQG1SJJVCKTN [Fact check - Redditers are praising its qualities but amazon reviews tell that the build material is poor (and some ironically say its very good) and tbh the woofer cone looks cheap and refurbished so Idk about this one, moreover this is way expensive than SW100 which is also 10" and 100W as this Dayton but but but...ironically its amongst the top rated subs on parts-express - https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-sub-1000-10-100-watt-powered-subwoofer--300-628 so I am confused on spending that extra premium (12k INR expensive than the NS-SW100) and the SW100 is surprisingly $179 while the Dayton is just $119 while its the totally opposite here in India as this Mumbai dealer is offering me NS-SW100 at just Rs. 15,500 incl. shipping (222 USD direct equivalent). So what's your take guys in helping me out? Please take a look at my living space.

I have a problem with my speaker set, i have a sony SEN r5420. The problem is that when i am at like half volume, the following happens : my right speaker makes crackling sounds and stops playing. I think this is because my subwoofer puts out to much base, and with all the base kills some contacts in my amp. I think this is the problem because when i turn of the subwoofer, everything works again. If anyone nows a fix please let me know, thanks !
