I have now reinstalled 19.10 onto an SSD 3 times with the same results: OS installs without error Restart and load the OS OS loads without error Install an application/driver or two. Run apt update && apt upgrade Restart OS gets stuck at loading screen (pic) I'm dumbfounded. Each time, same result. Loads correctly the first boot stops working the 2nd. This isn't the first time I've experienced this type of issue on earlier versions of Ubuntu but the issue was always fixed by just restarting the machine. This time the issue is persistent. Have you @MEC-777 had this issue before and had any success getting around it? Perhaps I should try a different distribution like Mint or Pop and see if the results are different? Right now this is not my primary SSD. It's a scratch SSD for general testing. All troubleshooting suggestions from everyone are appreciated. Hardware (no OC's): AMD Threadripper 1950X G.Skill Ripjaws 4x8GB 2400MHz ASUS X399-A PRIME 2xSapphire Tri-X R9 290X's ADATA SP900 64GB (For testing Ubuntu 19.10) Samsung 960 Pro 1TB (running Ubuntu 19.04) Broadcom BCM85710S Dual SFP+ NIC Corsair AX1200i To create the bootable thumb drive for installing 19.10 I used dd (may or may not have something to do with the issue): umount /dev/sdb1 mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdb1 dd if=ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdb

Laptop GPU Stuck At 300/150 MHZ Unplugged/Battery Power fix
toemass posted a topic in Graphics Cards
I have a Dell G7 7790, i7 9750H with an NVIDIA RTX 2070 Max-Q Design. It runs flawlessly on AC power/plugged in. Whenever you use the laptop on battery power/unplugged, the GPU core clock plummets to 300 MHZ and memory clock to 150 MHZ. For example, MSI Kombuster was reaching 6 FPS with 720 resolution and default settings. This was a design choice by Dell to save battery life, while majorly sacrificing performance. This made running games unplayable. You couldn't run any game smoothly. You had to plug it in whenever you game, so it wasn't even a mobile gaming laptop, which is what I intended to use when I bought it, regardless of how long a gaming session would last. I've tried making tweaks and performance adjustments to no avail by following many forum and video posts such as: Setting every energy saving option to disabled and every battery power option to high performance via Nvidia Control Panel, Geforce Experience, Power Options (including hidden power options available via registry), Battery Performance, Registry Tweaks and Dell battery apps Registry tweaks Downgrading BIOS Overclocking GPU Overclocking/underclocking CPU Formatting Windows 10 Avast antivirus scan With every option I could think of exhausted, I thought of changing the VBIOS on the graphics card. This fixed the problem. After trying some similar VBIOS's to the Dell RTX 2070 Max-Q through the Techpowerup website, I managed to find a Razer RTX 2070 Max-Q VBIOS that was compatible with my graphics card. As soon as I made the change, I saw a massive improvement in performance. I am now reaching 21 FPS with MSI Kombuster. It is not on par with AC power/plugged in (which is 47 FPS on MSI Kombuster), but I am satisfied with the sacrifice of performance to save battery life. So, to increase your performance on battery usage on laptops, you must upgrade or use a different VBIOS. To do this, follow these guidelines: Use nvflash through an elevated CMD. You should only need to use 3 commands, which are 'Save VBIOS firmware to file', 'Remove write protect' and 'Update VBIOS firmware' Be sure to backup your current VBIOS with nvflash to a .ROM file Visit techpowerup and download their VBIOS's. Find one similar to your graphics card. Match up your default core and memory clock to the ones on techpowerup. You can view your default core and memory clock in NVInspector You will know the VBIOS you tried to use does not work/fails if your graphics card in device manager will stay disabled. To fix it, it should be as easy as updating it back to your original VBIOS I hope anybody finds this information useful. I can finally game anywhere I want. -
Hello everyone, I would gladly appreciate your help on a matter that is about to drive me completely crazy! I just received the LG43WL500-B monitor. Now it's a pretty sweet monitor especially if you want a budget ultra wide! As I anxiously opened the package i was only thinking of one thing: If I encounter any dead pixels or not. I had pretty bad luck in the past to the point of getting 4 monitors in a row, all with dead pixels. Long story short, I fired up a test immediately, I wiped the screen with a microfiber cloth and after 3-4 dust spectacles i found something that I could not remove. I thought it was a dead pixel but upon closer examination, there are some weird things about this thingy. First of all, if you look it straight on, you cannot spot it. you can see it only if you look at it at angle. Second and most importantly, I don't think it is a whole pixel. I took some really close up photos using a tripod (for stability) and it seems like it's either something extremely tiny or a certain color of the pixel is not fully lit? Can you help me please find some peace of mind? Should I return the monitor? P.S: Here is the link to a set of images i uploaded, all in different colours with and without an angle. You can really see it at the third photo. also, you can right-click and open the image and fully zoom in to see the individual colours. Link: https://imgur.com/a/sNxA12l Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Hi I have been trying to reset my Windows back to factory settings. During the process, it was working pretty well and now for the past 30 minutes it's been stuck at 32%. Is there anything I can do to help this problem? Or can I restart my computer and do this some other way? Thanks, sailboatking

What the title says. I don't want to pull it super hard, because I fear that would break the whole wire. Thank you for any ideas/help!

2 weeks ago, out of nowhere, my pc got bricked. on startup, I hear the post beep fine, but it gets stuck on the "the ultimate force" welcome screen. I cant get to the BIOS, but it is unresponsive! pressing F5 for default or F7 for advanced settings does nothing!! I tried updating the bios by sticking the usb disk on key with the .cap file. it shoulkd have propted an automatic update - but it didn't do anything. I tried clearing CMOS via the jumper but it also sent me back to the bricked BIOS. then I tried removing the baterry and removing all hardware and only 1 RAM stick. still the same. last thing - I tried formatting to a new installation with a usb, but changing boot priority did not work. still stuck on this splash screen. Also, I see this weird orange led down under the last PCIe lane. nothing in the manual about it. here are some pictures: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ygrj5evqyhqfhfh/AAB0y5BbhqvkVP7_LNXFFUlya?dl=0 what can I do to fix this?? thank you

I have a 8600k and a 2080 Ti, and I need a motherboard to go with them. I am not sure which one to get. I was going to go with the Asus Z370-A, but I didn't like the colours, then I thought about the ASRock extreme 4, but I read that the PCIE slots aren't very reinforced. I then thought about the Z370-F, but the review for that weren't great either. I was going to just go with that but then somebody linked me this: https://www.overclock.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=99753, and on that the Z370-F is below the Z370-A. So now I am completely stuck. I have been asking about this on reddit, but I wanted some fresh opinions, so I thought I would post it here. I was hoping to buy the motherboard tonight (about 7 hours away where I am), and any feedback or suggestions would be great. Preferably I would like to keep it under £200.

So I'm having an issue with a VDI environment where when the client logs off the Windows 7 VM gets stuck logging off due to shutting down programs (Outlook). The client could simply close Outlook before logging off but people are stubborn. Any ideas on how to resolve this? Reinstall of Outlook?

I’ve been having an issue with my second computer with it getting stuck on the asus logo post. This only occurs when I shut down my computer in any way. If it’s either in sleep mode, normal shutdown or restart, this would make the next time I see the brand of the Mobo which is Asus it would just get stuck there and I can’t get past it. I can not access the bios at all with this issue. The only thing I’ve seen to get passed this issue is literally not touching it and disconnecting it from power for 2-3 days and come back to it and I might be able to get passed where I normally get stuck on. It sometimes works if I take out the ram or the cmos battery. Otherwise I have no idea how to resolve this issue. I’ve had try to go barebones and removed everything but the CPU,Mobo, one hard drive and different sticks of ram trying one at a time to see maybe it’s some hardware and sadly same results. I’ve had these components replaced through RMA... PSU,RAM,CPU and Mobo. Which pretty much the whole system besides GPU and memory. Ive have tried on board graphics to see if it’s the GPU and disconnected the main hard drive but no luck.... am I missing something or did one of the parts I’ve RMA remain faulty? My rig ASUS Z170-E I5-6500 Skylake Quad-core G.Skill TridentZ RGB 32gb MSI GTX 1070 Samsung 850 EVO 500gb WD Black 2TB Corsair AX760 i have no idea what else to do 0_0 ..... thinking at this point just replace the SSD and see if it’s a memory issue. But I’ve been at this for 3 months with dealing with this and school. Was hoping someone can point me to a direction.

Hello everyone, I did encounter a problem this morning, which I tried to solve for like six hours, without any luck. Therefore I am coming to you, more experienced users, tech-guys or gals. I am running a quite old desktop with even older HDD. I recently got myself an SSD from a friend. He formatted it before getting it to me. When I got it, I downloaded the Windows Media Creation Tool first to prepare the USB Flash Drive. Then I unplugged the old HDD and plugged in the SSD along with USB Flash Drive. Went to BIOS to set the Boot order. I encountered an obstacle called "Pri Master Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed". I thought, that it might have something to do with the fact that the SSD is formatted and the BIOS is trying to boot from it. Anyways, I managed to boot the USB Flash Drive and successfully install Windows 10. I went to plug in my old HDD to copy few files. Everything went well for the evening and night, installed few programs, played a game or two (from the HDD tho). Then, in the morning, when I needed to restart the PC, it didn't boot back. It got stuck after the DrMOS screen, telling me the same error again - "Pri Master Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed". I managed to bypass it once more to copy some of my files back to HDD. Then, went to use the old HDD again, while being able to access the SSD files just fine. I didn't really find any good solutions by googling. Checked the SSD's state in the windows interface and the results were good. So I prepared the USB Flash Drive again to format the SSD once again and do a fresh install. But the Flash Drive refused to Boot, several times. Went through blinking underscore to the Windows Logo for a second and then back to the blinking underscore (booting sequence?) again for infinity. Booted my HDD, formatted the SSD from windows interface and then unplugged the HDD again. Left only SSD and Flash Drive plugged in and tried to boot from USB again just to encounter the same issue with blinking underscore. While still getting the "Pri Master Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed" message before booting from anything. When I switched from IDE to AHCI in BIOS, the message did not pop up again, yet it didn't fix the boot from USB issue. My specifications: OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit CPU: Intel Core i7 930 @ 2.80GHz RAM: 16,0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 534MHz (7-7-7-18) Motherboard: MSI X58 Pro-E (MS-7522) Graphics: 4096MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (MSI) SSD: Kingston Now UV400 - 240GB I apologize for such a long text, but it is driving me crazy already as I have spent hours on it without any results. I thank everyone for their time and effort in advance. I'll be here to answer any more questions.

Hello again! I got my new CPU just yesterday and installed it right away. I bought a new CPU (r7 2700x), a new mobo (Tuf B-450 gaming plus) and new ram (Corsair venegance 3000mhz) and it was working fine the day i installed it (yesterday) and this morning, turboing up to 4,1Ghz and so on. But now it's stuck on 3.2Ghz. I didn't change any setting or anything. Why is it doing this? SPECS Ryzen 7 2700x (with stock cooler) Tuf b450 plus gaming Corsair venegance rgb pro 3000mhz (oc to 3600mhz) AMD RX 480 RF Cooler Master 650w PSU and a hard drive and ssd. Best regards, Jebe

So I've got a friend's defective HDD a while back to try and save some files for her, I needed to copy everything to my computer with a Linux Distro (to avoid windows UAC as it was taking forever to take ownership of the files and I feared the HDD would give up before it would finish) and then I waited for her to get her new laptop, she brought it here and I just copied everything to her new laptop from windows through a network share! Thing is, she had the install wizard of a "speed checker" in her files, and Windows defender caught that! I didn't see it, since I was not looking at the computer screen, and, when I finally saw that, all files were already moved and gone from my HDD. Now Windows Defender is constantly telling me it has found an issue and it always says it's that file,"PC-SPEED-UP-SILENT-UPDATER.EXE" that suposedly was in the backup folder I created for her files well that file isn't in my PC anymore, that directory doesn't even exist! But it won't go away! I tied telling Windows Defender to remove it, to allow it,to put it in quarantine, but nothing seems to work! I'm out of ideas here and the notifications are very, very annoying! Did anyone had this problem before? It's been a month I'm trying to get rid of it, but nothing seems to work.

Specs: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus Ryzen 9 3950x Asus Dual Geforce OC RTX 2080 Super Trident Z Royal 2x16gb 3600mhz NZXT Kraken x73 I have been saving up for a pc for a long time, this is my first built pc, I followed the manuals for everything made sure things were plugged into the correct spots and I ended up getting a post first shot. Everything was running smoothly until I plugged in my headphones (Senneheiser Game One) After installing the recommended drivers from https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/MPG-X570-GAMING-PLUS#down-driver&Win10 64 I found that the audio was choppy and slightly distorted, making it basically unusable. Booting sometimes gets stuck on the black screen/MSI screen (I'm still not too familiar with the correct terminology so I apologize in advanced.) where it tells you which buttons to press to go into BIOS, Boot menu, ect. I troubleshooted, uninstalled/reinstalled drivers, but it is still choppy. Sometimes after restarting it's super choppy other times its barely choppy. Also tested different audio outputs including monitors, tv, headphones, earbuds, and they're all choppy. Yesterday I can't quite recall what I did but the audio issues seemed to go away, and the booting issues stayed. After turning off my pc and turning it back on today, the audio issues came back and now the whole system seems to stutter and distort along with the audio, I tested streaming into discord and others found that they couldn't tell that there were any issues. I've done my best to try testing and troubleshooting but I really don't know what else to do. I can't seem to get my audio working properly through any output source, and I'm unsure as what to do next. Excluding the audio issues and the occasional stutter the system seems to be working perfectly fine. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, I really want to be able to use my system

My PC freezes while its idle or underload, it always happens when im watching a YT vid. (Using Firefox latest Ver) But Im always watching a YT vid 24/7 while the PC is on so it might not be correlated. I can move the mouse, and highlight files on the desktop but not open them. The vid starts chopping but the audio still plays for 10 more seconds. the RGB on my AIO cooler from corsair freezes. I can open Task manager using Ctrl + Alt + Del but every program is at 0% in everything, but the Full CPU load is stuck at a low percentage and the same for memory but everything else is at 0%. And i have to force shutdown the PC. One time that it happened i just let it run while frozen for a while. I could browse the internet but its really slow to load pages (Browser already open). it ran for a quite a while so i don't think its a temperature issue. But within that time NZXT Cam tried to launch using User Account Control (The thing that notifies you if you want to launch a program by saying Yes). i said yes but still everything was frozen, and i decided to shut the PC down because i wanted to use it. I have been trying to catch the freeze while i have Task Manager open with HWINFO but with no luck because it happens randomly. yesterday it happened twice in 30 mins after launching the PC and it was fine for 18 hours. and today it froze in 3 hours Only XMP is on, no overclocking. Everything is updated to the latest version including Windows. it has been happening once or twice a day for a week straight. it was working fine for 3 weeks. Specs:- CPU: R9 3900x Mobo: ASRock x570 Taichi GPU: MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X RAM: G.skill Trident Z RGB 2x16 3600Mhz cl18 Storage: Kingston A2000 NVMe 512GB + WD 2TB PSU: Asus ROG Strix 750W 80+ Gold *I know there are some poor buying decisions there but it was bought in the middle of the pandemic with everything out of stock*

video here https://imgur.com/a/BbP5Vwi Hello, I live in Pakistan, had my sister buy it in UK and dhl me, i gave customs on it. So RMA is not possible plz don't suggest that. Its an alphacool 420 mm 45mm thick rad. Was loop testing when this clanking came, tolerated a bit then drained and took apart loop to solve this. What i have tried: Banging the rad Pouring pure synthetic white vinegar and let it sit on the affected area for more than 30 mins Flushed 4 hours straight this fucking rad before putting in loop. Now flushed some more. Apparently it seems as if it is stuck in one or two or maybe three tubes. The banging and clanking is real loud real noticeable. It comes near the right hand port in this pic, does not move from there.

I have an MSI gs75 with 10th gen i7 and rtx 2070 super. It had up to 100 degrees C temperatures so I found that undervolting was a good way to help reduce this. People have said u should keep reducing voltage until u get a blue screen to figure out the most stable undervolt. I used XTU to get to a voltage of -0.160v without any blue screening and decided to do a restart to see if the laptop was stable. Now the laptop is stuck restarting, the screen doesn't work, the keyboard doesn't light up and it just keeps restarting. I need serious help with this and I want to know is there anything I can do.

I want to replace the power LED that comes with a Fractal Design Define Mini-C TG with a red one. I pulled the power button assembly out, and can see the 3mm LED. But I saw another small thing with similar wires coming out of it, and pulled it out as well. It's a bit bigger, but rectangular and crystal clear. It looks like it's structured like an LED, but I've never seen a rectangular one before. Anyone that can help? Can someone confirm that this is a second LED?

My new monitor has arrived today, and after a couple hours of usage I noticed this.. I ran JScreenFix for over an hour while watching the CS major and it's still there. Opinions, suggestions? (I heard about pressing it with something gentle but oh god I don't want to touch this fresh fingerprint free screen.) If it matters, it's a BenQ XL2536 incase you have something to share about brands etc. idk hElp.
