Brand New WD Caviar Black 2TB Strange Noise While Shutting Down
Guest posted a topic in Storage Devices
Well just like the title says I just bought a brand new Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB and plugged it in formatted it with absolutely no problem. Didn't even write anything to it. And I turned the system off. While shutting down the hard drive makes a strange grinding noise that I've never heard from a drive before. Here is a YouTube video with that sound: the sound starts at 6 seconds and you might need to turn the volume up to hear it. What the hell is that sound? Is that the motor just slowing down and stopping? Is that head scratching the platters? What is that sound? I've heard that the black series can be loud and make noises from time to time but that sound doesn't sound normal. I've checked in Crystal Disk Info and it says the drive is fine. I don't believe it. -
Hello there! One of my frined has bought an Acer laptop which worked fine for 3 months, until after a windows update he couldn't connect to the wifi anymore. The icon on the bottomleft says its connected, no weird issues there, in the control panel, network settings, states it is connected and the wireless connection has been established, everything looks fine. However if he tries to open firefox or skype, steam, etc. It displays the tipical "no internet connection" error. He hasn't fiddled with any of the network settings, he only reseted the router and plugged in a simple usb wifi adapter that he had laying around. Even with the adapter installed and fully working, he still has this issue. (everything seems fine but applications not getting any internet) He went ahead and disabled windows firewall just in case. He tried different networks. He even came over to my house to make sure. I got internet, he didn't. I can't imgaine what could possibly be the problem. I though you guys might be able to help.

Hello guys, I have just encountered a problem with my USB version of the Steelseries Siberia V2: it got disconnected from a software point of view and generally, (it happened a lot before) I have to unplug it and plug it back after a few secs. This time however, it started re installing its driver on its own and I disconnected the headset while it was setting up the device... Now it doesn't show up as Siberia V2 in the device list when plugged into the I/O at the back which is where is always was. Strangely, when I plug it in the front USB ports (which are 2.0 and not 3.0 like at the back of my mobo) they work fine and I can hear sounds from it which is confirmed by it showing up properly in device manager. Can you help me figure out how to make it work when plugged at the back again? I use an extension for it and if it is going to be in the front of my PC it will be very annoying. Things I tried: Reinstalling Steelseries engine, Reinstalling device driver in device manager, restarting, updating Steelseries engine, plugging it at the back and front with and w/o extension. None of the above made it show up correctly when plugged at the back (for when I tried at the back). I have included 2 screenshots of the device showing up as 2 different things. Not recognized is at when plugged at the back (any of the USB ports at the back produce this error I should mention) and the proper name is when plugged in the front. Thanks for answering me and I hope it's easy to figure out and fix. I'm going to sleep so I will only answer in 10-12 hours. Regards,

I've been looking for a while trying to find out more about my problem but I couldn't find anything. I'll try to make it short. When my monitor turns off there's still some light remaining, specially at a specific spot (at the bottom, slightly at the left from the center). I even tried to unplug it (so it doesn't have any electricity to keep it on) but it still stays on. I left it unplugged for one night and in the morning there was no light left, but when I used it again it come back. Any ideas of what could this issue be? Thank you in advance : ) I'll try to take some pictures of it if I can when I arrive home so you can see it. EDIT: the only thing that it could have damaged my monitor is me using its USB ports which sometimes would turn off for less than a second all my USB devices connected at my PC ports. That's the only strange behaviour that i noticed lately before this issue and it didn't happen when I discovered the issue, but I did use the monitor's USB ports that day.

Hi, Just been cleaning up my computer from all unwanted files with nothing important in them, but have come across a Gvtemp folder which I've deleted and restart my Pc and its back. Is it malware/virus or apart of windows? Cheers.

I downloaded a windows 10 update about two days ago and since then windows has been acting very strange. Some things will take FOREVER to do. Like open chrome for example. I click the hot bar icon I get a loading circle next to my cursor and then the circle disappears and nothing happens until around 5 min later when chrome will eventually open. Also I cant use the file browser. I can open it but if I right click on anything the file explorer stops responding and then my desktop goes blank background and everything. Along with my hot bar. I cant roll back the update because the same thing happens when I try to do so on the update history and the settings for updates. I have tried restarting and ran anti virus and malware programs. Thanks for the help!

Can anyone tell me what these actually are? Was it just some creative digital models, or are there figures like this somewhere to buy? This was one of the standard wallpapers from the Windows 7 OS, and I have no further info to go on than that. Picture contained in spoiler.

So my computer blue screened twice today and both times have me a error message of a overheating problem. The thing is my computer is running at around 40-50C for the cpu. and nothing is getting hotter than that, so im guessing its not overheating. I opened her up and noticed a usb 3.0 plug was loose and i plugged it all the way in and sprayed out some decent amount of dust and the issue hasnt happened again. Im not convinced that one of these minor things caused such a significant error though if anyone has any ideas please let me know your help will be greatly appreciated.

I recently created an under clock profile in MSI Afterburner to keep my Sapphire Vapor-X HD 7950 cool and quiet when doing light tasks such as watching youtube. My underclocked profile is as follows: Core voltage: 950 mV Memory voltage: 1600 mV Power limit -10% Core clock: 475 MHz Memory clock: 625 MHz My overclocked profile is as follows: Core voltage: 1181 mV Memory voltage: 1600 mV Power limit: +5% Core clock: 1117 MHz Memory clock: 1433 MHz (My Overclock is quite low and looks weird but this is because it gives me an even Memory bandwidth number and Floating point performance number) I ran Furmark for a good 5 minutes with the Underclocked settings and got a solid 43 FPS (min:43 max:43 avg:43) and very cool temps. I thought this was weird so I ran the test with my normal Overclocked speeds and got about 58 fps (min:47 max 78: avg: 58). this is incredibly strange and I'm not sure if this is an error, any comments?

I was recently browsing with about 4-5 tabs open on Google Chrome when I noticed on the 'Openhardware monitor' gadget that I use that my CPU (4790k) was pinned at 100% usage. I have been running the system for about two months and have never noticed such high usage unless I was intentionally stress testing so was very confused. Is it likely that I have somehow been infected with malware of some kind? A couple of days ago I did a pretty hefty over-clock, could this add to the source of the problem? Thanks I have attached a screenshot from task manager, no idea what is going on there, Chrome seems to be hogging far too much haha

Right well so the computer was working fine and connecting to the internet fine through Ethernet but then one day I turn it on and login 2 minutes later it turns of i think is a power cut and turn it back on the same thing happens over and over again I get annoyed and leave it. I then think its the pc so I remove the HDD and put it into 2 other pc's and it still didn't work but while I had the Ethernet unplugged I turned the computer on and it worked fine except for the fact it couldn't connect to the internet I also tried a small USB wireless dongle I thought it worked but then turned of again im thinking I might need to reset all the network settings but I don't know how also it turns of as soon as you log in now rather than waiting 2-3 minutes please help I couldn't find anything else. Im running windows xp and I did have a static IP but I removed that. Hey LTT Forums, I was recently noticing that sometimes on the 3rd quarter of a song WMP would play 1-2 secs of the last song than continue with the current song... I play the songs from a new netgear NAS not evan quarter of a year old and playback works fine on other computers... If you need anymore information just let me know! Thanks LTT Forums!

OK, so I posted this to reddit's r/techsupport, but I also wanted to post here to get other opinions as well. I did nothing in the way of settings changes, yet when I woke up today my normally 1920x1080 monitor was able to run at 2715x1527, I am mainly wondering what caused this and what would be the drawbacks, so far there haven't been problems game wise, performance is the same and I haven't had lag/stuttering/screen tearing other than what I have already seen @ 1080p. The monitor isn't overheating and I haven't checked the FPS on Skyrim yet, but I played it for a bit and didn't notice anything different.

So yeah, what are some strange/not for the weak of heart foods that you find tasty? Personally I love escargot, frog legs, blood pudding, and blood sausage. I've tried brains but I don't like it that much. Funny, I've had all that and I've still yet to have venison. Anyways, what about you?

Hi Guys, So, where do I begin with this one? I am an avid gamer, and I have a budget gaming pc built for me by a friend that is around three years old now. The specs are below: AMD Phenom II X4 965 processor (quad core) AMD Radeon HD7850 graphics card 1600x900 samsung monitor. Any other specs can be provided upon request. I would not describe myself as particularly excellent with computers, however neither would I be a complete novice. Now, to the problem at hand: Playing certain games seems to cause a major issue with the graphics on my pc. During play, the screen will go blank, and the message saying the exe has crashed will appear. Fine. But if I then use the computer to do anything else, like browse the internet, all many of wierd and wonderful things occur. Certain parts of the page will go blank, and reappear seconds later having been inflated to twice their normal size. Or green. Or fuzzy. If I try to run the game again, it will crash instantly. Videos become unwatchable and the only thing the pc would be good for is staring at my desktop. Rebooting solves the issue, and all appears well again. However, when I start the game up again, the problem will occur again. Sometimes it will be seconds after starting the game, other times it can be anywhere up to an hour. Now for the strange part: This problem only occurs on certain games, with seemingly no real correlation between which ones. Dying Light, for example, can be run at a very good spec and is perfectly stable with a good framerate. However, an indie game, Sunless Sea, which is a top-down 2D affair, will run fine, but then it crashes, and we're back to this issue of the graphics going mad. Similarly, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon will run for a few minutes, with a smooth framerate and no other issues at all, then inexplicably stop and screw around with the graphics again. I can sort of guess that there is a fault with my graphics card, however, what perplexes me is there is seemingly no link with the games that will work and the games that won't, at least graphically. In addition, it is worth pointing out that I have tried rolling back drivers, installing new ones, taking the graphics settings down to the bare minimum, all to no avail. Any thoughts? Any input you guys can give me would be much appreciated. Any other information you need I can provide with no problems whatsoever.

So, for a SCIENCE FAIR project me and my friends have decided to go in on the most ghetto rigged PC you have ever seen. A canola oil cooled PC. It won't damage the PC because it is non-conductive. I'm thinking an fish tank, lots of waterproof caulking and the like, REALLY wide tubing, and garbage bags to cover the floor. In theory it should work, vegetable oil carries heat very efficiently so by running it through 2 rads the heat should dissipate enough so the system would stay cool. Thoughts are appreciated, no h8 plz.

Hi everyone am having this problem with my computer where I am getting a small blue globe with a green arrow down on my notification bar. I am using windows 7 BTW. Every time I use my computer this icon would pop up for 1-2 minutes and then go away. I tried clicking it and nothing happens but when I right click I get the option of EXIT. I hate it so much because I don't know what it does and it scares me to think it could be harvesting information and password. I tried multiple virus and malware detection programs and I still see this thing popping up in my notification pane. I have attached a small snippy picture of the culprit can someone tell me what it is and what it does please.

So today i returned home from school ready to start my much needed week break. I jumped into BF4 played a game and it ended. As usual, the game dumped me at the scoreboard and then the next game's loading screen popped up. as soon as I deployed, though, things started spiraling. The game crashed for one, dumping me at desktop. Everything I had open (corsair link and firefox) were whited out, showing nothing but the frame. I closed them all with task manager and immediately started up firefox. as soon as I did this, my screens turned solid colors (main one red, smaller one blue) and it stayed that way for a few seconds before doing a hard reboot. It took me back to the sign in screen, and as soon as I did, both screens started flashing red at random rates. then it hard rebooted again. it did this a few more times before i was finally able to log in. what could this be? my system is almost 2 now and I plan on building a much nicer one in the near future (hence the RM1000) but i need this one to hold up until then. Help? Video Specs: i3 2100 Asrock H77 Pro4/MVP 2x Sapphire Radeon 7770 Ghz. edition 8gb. of G.Skill Ripjaws X @ 1866mhz corsair RM1000 psu

Our IP range is in the 10.0.0.0 area. IP Addresses like 239.255.255.250 & 239.255.100.100 along with 224.1.1.1 & 224.0.0.2 (and many other 224.X.X.X) IPs keep showing up in my DNS records on my computer. When I open a command prompt and type arp -a (lists my DNS cache IIRC), these IPs show up. None respond when I ping them except for 239.255.100.100 but it responds from one of our 10.0.0.X IPs which is a Color Printer. Just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone knows what these are about as we have no devices with these IPs.
