"Steam Families is a collection of new and existing family-related features. It replaces both Steam Family Sharing and Steam Family View, giving you a single location to manage which games your family can access and when they can play." This looks to be a unified steam sharing and family in the steam beta channels right now. New features include: Parental controls Limits on games (maybe rating or saying only these games can be played) Restricted access to the store, friends, and steam community play time limits and time of day restrictions playtime reports approve or deny request (additional playtime, feature access, temporary or permanent) recover the children account if the password is lost. child purchase request send family request instead of having to sign in on that system to share, you can request the user be added from the family management dashboard If a family member is banned playing your game, you and the game player will be banned, but family members that were not the one cheating or the game owner will not be effected. family members games can be played offline as long as the game has family sharing support by setting up steam, family accounts will be auto-recommended to join your family (the accounts that were signed in to share games with) family management adults can kick out family members kids cannot leave unless an adult removes them if an adult leaves, a 1-year timer is started before they can join another family member This is such a great new update to already great features. This is why steam is king and companies like EA and Ubisoft need to take a good hard look at their products and either step up or let steam take over. Family management has been a hassle for us and this is just such a quality of life update that is just a good job Valve moment. Put simply the biggest annoyance for me with pc gaming is steam updates. They don't happen automatically and since my pc is turned off except when I use it I have to wait for updates often. So If I had a linux VM with steam installed is it possible to make steam update games instantly? Then since steam transfers over LAN would it just pass It to my gaming pc? I have Gbit so the main slowdown is decompressing does steam transfer decompressed versions of the updates? Steam cache would be pointless since my internet speed is easily fast enough to saturate my ssd with decompression. My main goal is to get around decompression. this might sound like a none issue but if the only down side for me is some extra storage space used I don't see it as a waste. Any help appreciated!

Hey. So... I have a new PC and I have been having some problems with it. Specifically with the GPU. (i think) I will give the full specks at the bottom. (GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus) My PC was working fine just a few days ago, as in I was able to play my games on ultra without problem, but I got an NVIDIA update and then after it finished, the games on Steam and Epic started not using the GPU for the games and the CPU started to absolutely throttle. Updating the driver was the only thing that I did. I then thought that the update was the problem, so I rolled it back, but the problem still persisted. I then restarted the system and now only a few games actually use the GPU when on. Those games would be games like AmongUs, CaveCrawlers, any game on EA, and Helldivers2. All of my other games like Hogwarts legacy, The Finals, Halo: MCC, and Warframe, still don't work. Let me know if there is anything else that yall would need to help me in this. Thanks Specks: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor Memory: TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II ATX AM4 Motherboard Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus 2X 12G GeForce RTX 3060 12GB 12 GB Video Card PSU: EVGA 500 BQ 500 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply

Just a hunch, but have any of you guys used Source Filmmaker? I can't seem to get it working right. Of course, I'm a complete noob, so maybe it's working as intended, but sometimes menus aren't clickable, and it can move my cursor to the main viewport when I click anywhere else in the application. I know it's old, but come on! It surely works better than this... right?

Disabling my AMD 7800X3D IGPU for steam to open quicker (damn you AMD/Steam) makes my Radeon software either not download correctly or not want to open due to the IGPU being disabled. Is it even worth having AMD software installed if im not using the IGPU (I use A NVIDIA graphics card) and if it is how would I be able to download the software where having my IGPU enabled would not be a barrier. Thanks!

So, I don't know if this is the correct place to post this, if it isn't please remove it and accept my sincere apologies. Hiya, So, I'm disabled and I play the WWE 2k games a lot, unfortunately the submission system is button mashing, which I can't do. Previously with 2k22 I was able to use hold to repeat in big picture to help me, unfortunately after a steam update months ago, it no longer seems to work with either 22 or 23. I know that my controller configs work, as my alternative mappings are there, but turbo itself, No dice. I wondered if anyone could help fix it or reccomend alternate software that will work any help would be appreciated, I use an xbox controller (with extended support driver)

Hey Forum, I'm reading / watching the news about content providers simply removing content from ppl, what they already bought (looking at you Sony ) and since similar things happened to me on Steam too, I was wondering. I'm from the age where we stored the content on physical media. Cassettes, CD, then DVD.... Now, obviously, this is not a solution when a game install requires 150+ GB. I remembered, Linus and his group made something in the past as a local cache for your games to download. That was the "Lan Cache" video. Now, this is super and all and I believe this MIGHT be the solution to my issue. All I want is to preserve my games even is Steam or any other gaming library platform removes it from their store and I want capability to still install it if I want to. Have any of you actually tried it and worked? Were you able to install games that were pulled out from the online store, but were cached on your Lan Cache? Or if you have better ideas, how to keep my games and not to worry about they getting removed, that would be great.

I apologize if this the wrong place for this topic. Please point me in the right direction. No issues until now since building PC end of July I am having an issue playing any game through steam.. I am able to play Fortnite (not run through Steam). All other computer functions work. I have done the following & none have worked: 1. Restarted computer 2. Verified integrity of games 3. Uninstalled & reinstalled game 4. Uninstalled & reinstalled Steam I have no idea what to do next. Ran Windows Memory Diagnostics w/ no issues surfacing. PC Userbenchmark would not run only whitescreen w/ not responding dialog box but cinebnench worked fine. Any insight/advice would be greatly appreciated

I couldn’t find a good answer for this online, so I figured you guys could help. Basically, I bought a steam deck 512gb model (refurbished) through Steam September 28th for $550. About a month later, Valve announced and launch the oled for the same price BRAND NEW! I know you can return a product through steam within 14 days no problem, but since it’s been over a month, I’m not sure if I could. The deck is still in perfect condition. Only modification is that it dual boots windows. Do you guys think I could return it, or will Valve just auto reject my refund?

Hey all! I play D&d with friends a lot and I use some steam software (Dungeon Alchemist) to visualize maps etc. I have been able to do this on my Samsung TV through the steam link app up until now. Unfortunately Samsung is pulling the plug on that software in 2 weeks on all of their TVs. I can control everything by plugging the Bluetooth dongle for my wireless mouse and keyboard directly into my TV, and the steam link app recognizes them. (the TV itself does not, but as soon as I open the steam link app, they work). It wasn't perfect and it tended to bug a little bit but for my use case, it was enough. I only had to occasionally open different maps and walk through them a bit. Since the software does not support controllers, I have to use a kb and mouse combo. I tried connecting a Chromecast I borrowed from a friend and doing the same thing, however I noticed the Chromecast will just not recognize the input from my mouse and keyboard. I looked online and I found options to buy a seperate USB hub, put it between my TV and a chromecast, and that can SOMETIMES work. However, spending +- 100 euros on a 4k chromecast + a hub as a gamble sounds a bit rough to me. Keep in mind I don't need the chromecast for anything other than this specific use case, as my 4k samsung TV supports all other newest apps etc. Does anybody else have other suggestions, or ideas?? I know I could also buy an Nvidia shield (4k) but they are still VERY expensive (200+ euros here) and honestly I should just be able to stream to my TV (and be able to use wireless devices) without buying tons of hardware. Update: I also found the xiaomi Mi box S 2nd gen which should be able to do 4k streaming, however I don't know if it allows steam link and I don't know if it supports wireless kb and mouse. There is a USB port but I don't know if it supports kb and mouse I also don't know if it allows me to open my file explorer on pc to load different maps into Dungeon Alchemist. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hey Everyone, I am running into an interesting issue while attempting to use PS Remote Play on my PS5 to play from my other devices. In short, PS Remote Play works with fantastic performance from my iPad, which is connected via Wi-Fi. It even performs well when I use my iPad from outside the home, with very playable results from as far as 600 miles away while on vacation. However, I get completely unplayable input latency (1.5s+) when I attempt to use PS Remote Play from my Desktop PC. Counterintuitively, this is true despite my desktop being directly connected to the network via Ethernet. The PlayStation 5 is connected via Ethernet as well. I am making this post because I have spent tons of time trying to troubleshoot this issue, and I've reached a point where I'm absolutely stumped, so I'm doing a deep dive on my home networking equipment. Has anyone experienced this? If so, have you fixed it? I am perplexed! I have attached an image with a diagram of the relevant portions of my home network, with information about each item. I am doing this because my home network is a bit unorthodox, and uses a secondary router + MoCA + Switch etc. in order to compensate for our walls being routed with Coaxial cable instead of CAT5e. (Note that despite this, I still achieve excellent results over these lines in other scenarios - e.g. the iPad->PS5 connection as previously, as well as iPad->PC with Steam Link. In other words, this setup achieves its purpose of good performance. The issue is specifically to do with my PC->PS5 Remote Play connection.) Some more details: I have tested with my PC connected directly to ethernet in the following scenarios: Plugged into the Router Plugged into the Modem I have tested with my PC connected to Wi-Fi in the following scenarios: 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks on Router 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks on Modem When playing from the iPad, I am using my PS5 controller connected via Bluetooth. When playing from the PC, I am using my PS5 controller connected via USB-C. I have also tried connecting the controller to my PC via Bluetooth. I have also prioritized traffic for the MAC addresses of my iPad, PC, and PS5 on my Modem and Router. (A side note: When I connect my iPad->PC to play games with Steam Link, this connection works great. Almost no discernable input latency versus playing locally.) Through all of these tests I listed above, I have noticed no improvement to input latency. I know it should be possible to eliminate the input latency on the PC->PS5 connection, because my iPad works fine both in the home and from hundreds of miles away. But I can't for the life of me figure it out. I would blame it on the Windows version of PS Remote Play, but others online seem to find no issues with it. Thanks in advance to anyone that has any advice on this.

So I have this annoying issue with my internet that is really getting to me right now. My computer says I have Internet. Indeed, I can fire up Firefox and opened like 16 tabs; half of it being YouTube and browse around just fine. Even able to stream my favourite music on Spotify or checking Whatsapp through the browser. The same can't be said for Steam. I can start it up and log in normally, but it's been a few days now and I can't play some of my favourite games because they're all stuck in an endless loop of updates that couldn't be downloaded either due to "No Internet connection" or "Manifest Unavailable". And it wasn't just Steam, both the Spotify and Whatsapp app on Windows were also affected by it. I've tried every trick in the book to get it working, from disabling Firewall to "netsh winsock reset" to even doing the network reset but it still won't work. So what do I have to do now?

Hi everyone! I am having trouble with my Steam App on Windows 10. When I click to Open Steam it shows the verifying install little window and then nothing else. It shows up in Task Manager but nowhere else. I have contacted Steam and tried every troubleshooting guide they suggested & that I can find (except two, which was reinstalling windows, the other was restore point). I will try to list everything I have tried below. I realise that a complete reinstall may be the only option but as this is also my work PC and I livestream for other people for event I would greatly prefer to leave my Win machine as is. Before this issue I am unsure exactly how long it has been since I last opened Steam on my PC but at the start of the year it did work but when opened would show me a blank window in the steam program and would only function when in "big screen" mode or whatever it's called. I am unaware of making any hardware changes before the steam issue, but i have upgrade my GPU since the issue, I did hope this might fix it, it didn't! So to what I have tried. Tried End Task in Task Manager and trying again Tried doing that with a rebooting Tried removing and reinstalling Updated Windows Updated All Drivers Checked that my Antivirus (AVG Free) isn't interfering. I even padded Steam to the whitelist. Checked Windows Defender and Firewall and nothing. Tried removing and deleting every mention of it in Program Files, App Data, & Registry Tried moving the install to another SSD Followed a troubleshooting guide where I force Windows to open Steam like it is a Beta program, this just put Steam into a loop of downloading and verifying, reverting and downloading again. Tried deleting only the "appcache" folder and trying again. There may be other things I've tried and cant remember. I am at the point of realising I may not play any Steam games on this PC until I reinstall but if anyone has any pearls of wisdom I'd be happy to hear them. I have no idea if I can find a way if any other programs are interfering! PC Specs FYI: Core i9-10920X ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. PRIME X299-A Rev 32GB RAM M.2 1TB OS SSD RTX 3060 12GB Windows 10 instance roughly 2.5 yrs old If anyone has any experience of this and has any tips please let me know, thank you so much in advance!

Hello All, My current desk area contains an L-shaped desk with both my work PC and personal desktop. I currently have a non-smart TV mounted above my work desk that I use to watch YouTube, Netflix, Crunchyroll, etc., but it is hooked up to my personal desktop. Now I am able to turn my chair 90 degrees and I can change what computer/keyboard/mouse I am at to search/pause/play, but I would like to make it even easier. Is there a program/os/emulator out there that acts like a smart tv in the sense that I can consolidate all my streaming apps and use a controller in the app? Steam's Big Picture Mode is basically it, but they removed the browser app and to my knowledge you are unable to access in-Steam web browser anymore. So, unless someone knows where I can get download streaming apps to my desktop without going through the Microsoft store, for now, I don't think Steam's Big Picture is it. I have started to try Bluestacks, but I have to configure the controller controls for each app. So basically, if anyone has any further knowledge about: How to add video streaming services to Steam/where to get desktop apps (not from the MS store). The best way to configure Bluestacks controls and get around the DRM (Digital Rights Management) requirements for streaming service apps. If there is an OS that I can use with Hyper-V. Please let me know. Any additional information would be helpful. Thank you.

Hello, I have a family member that has made one of his rooms set up as a game room. Set up with four Xboxes and small TV's for each. His networking, luckily, is in the same room. I've been the one actually dabbling in networking and server stuff. I have an old Dell OptiPlex that has 3 hard drive slots (1 parity drive), 12 core Xeon E5-2695 v2, 128gb ECC DDR3 with a 2.5gb pcie network port. I plan on using TrueNas and LANCache in a docker container. Is LANCache able to support Xbox games/updates? Is there a possibly better application for this niche project?

Hello, I have received CS2 update on Steam, but during the update it popped out with some weird bug, about not having enough space on my drive. I checked the space and everything was fine. I tried launching Steam with admin privileges, clearing Steam download cache and nothing helped. I opened "common" folder for Steam and I was unable to write and delete anything - drive was just unresponsive. After resetting my PC I saw that my drive was gone, not visible in explorer. It is kinda visible in disk manager, but I can't do anything with it. I also check BIOS for NVMe drives and I can only see my main drive for Windows (luckily). Also I tried to remout the NVMe drive, but it didn't help. I'm very confused about what happened - during installation seems like it just died. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot that kind of stuff? It should still be on warranty if I'm not mistaken and I had mainly my games installed on it so it's not a big deal, but I would like to try to fix the issue before doing all of that.
