Whatt piece of audio equipment to get for my friend's birthday?
Ankelbiter12 posted a topic in Audio
Hello all, I'm trying to get my friend some pc upgrade stuff, I'm getting him a lower performance 1TB SSD WD Blue M.2, an expansion card so he has 4 3.0USB slots, and a type C, but then we get to his audio set up on this pre built gaming pc. He currently has the following: 1. USB Headset 2. 3.5mm Jack basic speakers 3. USB-A to USB-B midi keyboard 4. USB for power, and 3.5mm jack for recording based microphone So there's two things I was thinking of doing, 1. I've seen him get annoyed with the windows device manager for sound switching from headset to speakers, back to headset, and I thought there were audio switches where he could plug the devices into a little box and push button 1 to use device 1 basically, I couldn't find those that would work with his setup. 2. Since the above was a dead end, I thought I'd get him a sound card now that he's getting into FLStudio, and he's got the mic and keyboard equipment for it, but all sound cards seem to only accept 3.5mm jacks, so again, what gives. I'm pretty familiar with a good chunk of pc building but I've never touched audio, and the solutions I thought I had, seem to be non existent without spending several hundred dollars on pro equipment which isn't necessary. -
Hey guys, I recently built my second computer. Trying to save money, I re-used an old power supply which was working fine despite having it for 5 years and spilling coffee on it. It was noisy and apparently a lower-end EVGA PSU so I decided to get a Phanteks AMP 750W as a replacement. Additionally, I noticed that I was having a whining issue from around my motherboard's CPU VRM area, which in another post a user said was whine from the VRM chokes. I decided to go from an Asus Prime H470-Plus motherboard to a Gigabyte Vision G Z490 to see if that would resolve the issue. The noise has changed a bit, but it still persists. Occasionally it will make an almost "grinding" noise similar to a printer before subsiding. I'm in a fairly quiet room so it's difficult to ignore. I currently use an i7 10700 (Locked), and I'm wondering if there's a potential issue with this? I'm really at a loss as to why the VRM is making these odd noises. Putting my ear to the motherboard it's near the CPU so I'm certain it's not my GPU causing coil whine.

I have a pair of Logitech Z313 2.1 50W speakers and sometimes they make crackling noises and sometimes buzzing, when turning the sound up or down and sometimes when I turn them on or off, as they have a power button, but when nothing is played on them. I've had them for a year and they didn't have any problem since like 1 month ago. Could this be a cable issue, as they are really tight tied with other cables from my PC?

Hi guys sorry if this is off topic but for a while now my tv sound cuts of when the back of my tv gets hot, it’s only the sound and nothing else. If I turn it of and put my fan on behind it then turn it on and leave the fan on for ages it will be totally fine. This is only when my room is hot... how can I fix it?

I've been having issues with my spectre x360's speakers for more than two months Whenever an audio is played (from a file on the pc or from the internet) it starts clear and bright then starts to fade and fluctuate progressively. I've tried to update the sound drivers and tried returning to older drivers without any success. I even sent it for repairing and got the speakers replaced with a fresh windows install but the problem persists. I tried to download the latest drivers from hp's website but it doesn't seem to be installed when I look it in device manager. I tried to relocate the drivers by searching the whole computer and yet no solution! Then I tried to follow this guide but then it told me that I couldn't install the chipset drivers I tried to follow these instructions but it didn't work : https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/Re-Speaker-volume-goes-down-unexpectedly-Spectre-x360-model/td-p/7703555

This picture is just an example I took from google. But my system is not showing the volume bar whenever I change the volume. It was still fine yesterday but for some reason, it is not showing today. I restarted my PC but it's still the same. Anybody here can help me with this issue?

I just got a new Aorus F127Q because I honestly couldn’t stand the absolutely horrible contrast on the 27GL850, plus my unit had terrible backlight bleed. Anyway, everything seems to be great about the F127Q but it makes a strange pretty high pitched buzzing noise. It’s not really that noticeable, especially with headphones on but still pretty weird. What could be the cause of this and can I fix it without replacing it?

Greetings everyone, since a windows update i hear a "pop" sound everytime i play audio on my computer, for example i play a youtube video or a mp3 file and i pause the video/file, there comes a "pop" sound after 3 seconds or so. Apparently that has something to do with the realtek audio driver going to sleep so thats where the "pop" sound is coming from, but im not connecting via a 3.5mm jack, but through usb (Logitech G Pro X) so i disabled the usb sleeping mode, but the sound is still there. Is there aything else i could try?

So, anytime I listen to music or watch a video on my new laptop, the volume will raise and lower itself in increments. I can hear that after a few seconds of a video it suddenly gets quiter, but when i check windows volume, the number has not changed, and when i check youtube, the video has not changed volume either. Later on in the video the volume may jump back up for a few seconds and then back down. The sound never cuts out, and it always goes suddenly up or down, not slowly. The new laptop is my HP 15 cw1xxx with a ryzen 5 3500u, 8gb of RAM, and vega 8 gfx

Hello LTT People, I have an big issue since over 6 months and i can't find anything at all that helps, I'll start with my setup, my specs are Windows 10 Pro (BRAND NEW INSTALLED CLEAN) MSI Z270 Carbon Pro (BIOS, latest) Intel i5 7600K Delidded + at stock speeds at the moment with custom loop. 4x4GB Corsair Dominator RAM (3000mhz but at 2133 atm.) MSI GTX 980 TI (stock atm) samsung nvme 970 SSD (250GB) boot drive Corsair HX850 V2 alright here is the issue: Sometimes, especially when i put my pc to sleep and wake it from that, but also just randomly without any reason, my audio starts to crackle alot, and videos are shown with audio delay, so videos + sound are out of sync, my pc slows down, warzone (only game i play) drops from usually 110 fps to 15-30 fps, and when i run latencymon it always shows that nvlddmkm.sys and dxgkrnl are the culprits, so i googled the issue and i did EVERYTHING that people recommend, i'll state some of my attempts: Update all drivers, especially gpu drivers. also downgraded those to 382-ish Didn't install the NVIDIA audio drivers, (but also tried it without any audio drivers at all) but i need my realtek audio for my sound setup, i do not need the nvidia sound drivers because i dont run audio from my monitors so i kept them uninstalled. changed my power plans on both the gpu + pc itself, also disabled threading. TOTALLY formatted my C drive and installed windows from blank, didn't have the issue, reinstall gpu drivers and the issue returned. if i uninstall nvidia drivers it again seems to be fixed. Disabled the High precision even timer Fully resetted my bios to stock. checked all my hardware and cables, it's flawless, I'm a perfectionist. This issue is killing me, i'm out of idea's and to be honest i do not understand dpc latency or what it is, so i'm bit out of my league with this issue. i tried all that i could find and it didn't help beside not installing any gpu drivers which is not really an option i don't ever post here, incase i did something wrong, left something out, or anything at all, please tell me so i can fix it, Hope we can get this fixed, regards Dennis

Hey so I have been in contact will multiple sources and places that claim to know about audio but know nothing about the connectivity.Having issues with my head set that was bought recently in hopes to increase the sound gaming experience. The problem im having is that the head set is not responding well to multiple sources of sound. For example if Discord and Apex are running at the same time i lose a lot of volume from the game but if i reduce the volume on discord i lose almost all the sound. Reinstalled all the drivers and went from video to video to see what out their from review to review but i cant quite find the answer to my problem. Almost wondering if i should get an audio card and connect the DAC in to it with optics cable. But do to the lack of knowledge on the topic i dont really know if that is just a waste. I do understand that getting an audio card and controlling the sound in it will mostly negate the DAC or the capability of the audiocard. Any suggestions. Or did i just spent lots of money on a non compatible for my purpose head set and ill have to live with the in game chat?

So I just installed the latest windows 10 update, which seemed to be a major one. My computer restarted several times and the update took about half an hour. The result is that I have no audio output. I can run the 'test' for the audio, and the green level indicator shows that the sound is being output, but I hear nothing. I have tried updating my audio drivers, and several other solutions that the internet has suggested to no avail. I would really appreciate any insight anyone here has. Thanks in advance

Hello, I'm building my new pc and plan to have a triple monitor setup. I will also have a games console connected to the centre monitor. Is there any way to connect the computer and the games console to a set of speakers. So for example I could play on the games console (Centre monitor) whilst playing YouTube on another monitor. (recommendations for which speakers, preferably with a sub) Thanks in advance and kind regards James

First of all sorry for my bad bad english. Because i am from germany my english is not the best.I dont know where to ask else. I searched so much and didnt find anything that could help me with this probelm. What i want to do is to play an mp3 or wav or any sound on boot. And with "on boot" i mean "on boot". So at the point where the Windows logo shows up or even better as soon as possible after I pressed the power button i want to just play a sound. I tried to do this with the task scheduler but this doesnt work. I hope anyone has an idea on how to do this. I am thankful for every answer. Thanks in advance.

Greetings, after 2 years of use my cooler master 120mm AIO (https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/coolers/cpu-liquid-coolers/masterliquid-ml120l-rgb/) is making this watery noise (turn up the volume to hear it). Also it makes sometimes this sound (second video, turn up the sound). I did everything: remove the pump from the CPU and apply new thermal coumpound, put the radiator horizontal, put the pump horizontal, shake it etc... The only thing that worked was to put totally horizontal the whole computer, I let it for 30 minutes and it did not make any noise then I put it back to normal (vertical) and it still make that noise lets say 50% of the time the other time is completely silence. The pump is always at 100% because is very silent, if I put it on less RPM is makes weird noises. can I do something to fix it? Thank you. Hello all, decided to share my impressions regarding the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Headphones, from a completely audiophile noob standpoint, so buckle up, get ready, because here we go! About me: I do like quite a neutral sound signature, but my "secret pleasure" is and always has been, a bit of bass (definitely not muddy or overpowered, just present, if you know what I mean - to make the music sound more "alive”), so I guess you could categorize me as a bit of a basshead. Now, from what I’ve heard and understood from the many, many people of YouTube, Head-Fi, Reddit and other reputable websites/forums/reviewers, the HD 58X/6XX headphones were definitely not supposed to be basshead headphones and I was perfectly okay with that, just because people were recommending these over and over and over and over. And this is where we come to my decision about purchasing the HD 58X’s over the HD 6XX's... from what I've read it seems like the HD 6XX headphones are a bit more “precise”, analytical and cooler sounding, while the HD58X’s (which are intended to be pretty much my daily driver for movies, gaming and music listening - mixed genre) are a bit warmer, have a touch more bass and are just more enjoyable and easy to listen to. I know they don't really need an amp for the most part, but I really wanted to get a setup that would be able to support maybe even some other harder to drive headphones down the line and I was hoping that the tube (I know it's a hybrid, but still) would help with the smoothness and warmth - at least a tiny little bit. So thats why I also decided to purchase the ALEX CAVALLI TUBE HYBRID AMP and GRACE DESIGN STANDARD DAC. I need to mention that where I live (Slovenia), there is pretty much no way for me to test or try out headphones in some kind of store (even audiophile oriented stores), as they mostly only have more generic headphones on display, or much, much more expensive models of headphones and amplifiers, of which a lot of us that are just getting into high fidelity audio, probably haven’t heard of before. Not to mention that it is almost impossible to find reviews of those products online, or at least some kind of information, from which you’d be able to compare those against the products that we hear about on YouTube, various forums, etc. I have also never heard/tried out a tube amp, but this was my long time dream and I am glad I was able to finally get a pretty decent one! - I understand the basics of how tube amps work. So what I am trying to say is I have never heard of any other headphones apart from a couple of generic "buy it at any store" Sony's, my long gone HD 518’s, HD25’s (awesome btw) and my V-MODA M100's (used to be used for DJing, but use them daily now), so I basically had to rely on reviews across a variety of platforms, when making this decision. When choosing between the two I asked myself… what about the drivers? Are they worth the money? Like I mentioned before a lot of people have categorized (and very strongly might I add) the 6XX’s, which are essentially HD650’s (an absolutely legendary $500 pair of headphones, that can be had for cheaper most of the time), as vastly superior in terms of drivers. The HD 58X apparently use newer drivers, that are NOT the same as the HD 660 S or 6 series driver for that matter (as confirmed by Sennheiser, apparently).. and so at this point I am asking myself: is the $170 price on Massdrop right now actually worth it? What if I am actually getting a much much cheaper driver instead? I do realise this is a funny and probably stupid thing to be worried about, but still.. I just had some doubts, since we as consumers naturally want to get our money’s worth and make the best decision possible. Well after digging on a vast majority of highly respected audio oriented forums I concluded that even though a lot of people agree that the 6XX’s are generally a bit more capable (they also scale very nicely with different amplifiers) the 58X’s are definitely worth the price. Keep in mind that even if they use a “inferior” 5 series driver, the way those are/would be then tuned, could make them worth way more, as if we’re honest, it’s about the sound with these headphones, or any other headphones for that matter and not about what’s inside. So… how do they sound? (Please keep in mind that I am an audio noob, so really trying my best). Really not sure what else to say other than yep - these are pretty much awesome. Again, keep in mind this is coming from a bit of a basshead! I’ve used a couple of Sennheiser headphones before, though not quite on the same level as these, but still. However, right now you should be aware that, as mentioned before, I am coming from the V-MODA Crossfade M-100 which are a pair of coloured headphones, as they are meant to be used mostly in loud environments, such as clubs, so naturally they have a “V shaped” sound signature, meaning that they have a lot of emphasis especially on the bass (and also the highs). I was afraid based on what people were saying that the 6XX, or even the 58X would sound too flat or thin for my liking, but boy oh boy was I wrong… I’ve honestly never been this pleasantly surprised with a pair of headphones (especially with Sennheisers as most people define them as “oh, those are the headphones with no bass, for classical music, right?”) in quite a long time! They definitely don’t lack bass, not at all! And it’s actually quite punchy, very well defined and precise, in my opinion. It also doesn’t colour the rest of the sound, as the mids and highs remain smooth and well defined with lots of resolution, even when the bass is "hitting" - something I’ve never experienced before. What I also noticed is that the bass here is going to be reproduced by the actual track itself and NOT the headphones, meaning tracks with less bass, will have just that - less bass, which is how it’s supposed to be, at the end of the day. And this is not to say that these suck the life out of songs. Nope, quite the opposite - they just make them sound clear, not muddy at all (which some of us bassheads will possibly never understand, untill now) and just generally smooth and awesome! BUT, with tracks that have more pronounced bass, you definitely hear the bass. Mind you, it isn’t going to shake your skull, but still.. it’s just.. I don’t know really - it’s just extremely pleasant to listen to and for me (again, coming from pretty much a basshead headphone), not lacking in the low end at all! - and I really mean that! They just sound warm and pleasant while expressing an extremely large of detail in the mid and high range. What I kept saying to myself is: "Damn, these just sound so nice, just, so nice..." They just sound good and natural is what I kept thinking, while I was trying to find flaws when listening to them. I honestly thought I’d have to EQ these (or the 6XX’s), but I won’t be touching them with any piece of software, ever, because I absolutely LOVE the way they sound and after a bit of burn in I’m sure they’ll sound even a bit better and warmer! One thing to mention is in spite of them being an open back pair of headphones, they don't have a particularly wide soundstage, which is to be expected, if you've ever read/watched some reviews practically on any of the series 6 Sennheiser headphones. However, the intimate vocal performance and just general intimate nature of these headphones should not be confused with them being aggressive, shouty or in your face! Instead I found out that I was experiencing the singers as if they were singing TO me, rather than AT a crowd/spectators - and they were doing so in an intimate, but very pleasant way. The build: They are built well in my opinion. They use "Sennheiser's signature plastic", which at the end of the day is still plastic, but feels robust and solid. I am sure many people will tell you that they are still rocking extremely old pairs of 6 series Sennhesier headphones and that they are basically (apart from the pads) solid! One thing though: please STOP putting shiny glossy plastic on anything electronic (that we touch on a regular basis) - this should be illegal haha, because while it may look good (to some), it’s going to show imperfections on the nano-scale + you touch it once aaaaaaand, boom - a million scratches. Not sure if these are going to have the same issue as pretty much most other pieces of glossy black electronics/devices, but I would seriously prefer the “naked black plastic” look. Packaging (international): Pretty good. The actual headphone box itself is quite flimsy and the headphones are not really fastened in any kind of way (they just kind of sit in the box), unlike some of their other products, such as the Alex Cavalli Tube Hybrid Amplifier and Grace Design SDAC (great packaging in my opinion), but they still managed to get to me completely 100% fine as they were packed inside an outer box with some packaging air bags, so I guess it works! Shipping (international): Was EXTREMELY satisfied with the tracking and speed of the shipping. We must not forget that we are living in very different times compared to only a couple of months ago, yet most of the products I ordered managed to arrive within two weeks of me placing the order - fantastic. They managed to get through customs pretty quick as well (about two days in my case), though I did (as expected) have to provide them with proof of purchase. Here's roughly what the tracking should look like for us international buyers: order processed -> DHL distribution centre -> processed at origin (U.S., airport) -> processed at transit facility (EU, Frankfurt) -> arrival in country (your home country) -> held at customs -> cleared customs -> delivered. FINAL Price (international): $170 + shipping (roughly $15) + import tax (22% in my case) + customs processing charge (roughly 18EUR in my case) = around 230EUR in my case. Conclusion: buy these, seriously. If you have the chance try them out first then try the 6XX as well. I think BOTH are going to be a good choice, but if you don’t want to invest in an amp (which even for the 6XX’s might not necessarily be needed as long as you have a decent motherboard), then I’d go for the HD 58X and trust me, if you find yourself in anything that I’ve written above, you WILL NOT be disappointed. Hope this helps somebody! Thank you all!

Hi so I want to preface this by saying that the controller is disabled in the sound control panel. Both the microphone and the speaker. So lets say im watching a youtube video - when I connect my PS4 controller to my PC using the cable, the sound coming out of my headphones immediately switches off as Windows makes a "device connected notification sound." This also happens when I disconnect the controller. Now one thing to note is that if I want the sound in the video to restart, I have to manually click on the video, either fast forward it or go back a few seconds to turn the sound back on. Does anyone know how to fix this? It never happened before, the first time it happened was either last night or today morning. Thanks

I had a logitech g633 headset for about a year and a half and never a problem with it then recently i started hearing a high pitched sound that would come and go also when i did hear it the loder the sound was the loder it would be. I though it was the headset so i bought an HyperX Cloud Alfa S but i just heard the sound again it was fairly faint but it was still there and i could definitely hear it through the game, but it just went away after 15s or so. What could be causing this and how do i fix it. I had my Pc for years and never had a problem before. Specs: i7-8700k ROG Strix Z370-E Gaming GTX 1080

When I connect my headphone in to my phone I'm getting some metallic effect on the sound, but that's not the headphone, because it works perfectly well on my PC. So there's something I can do about it without opening my phone? It's a pocophone f1 and a kz as10

Hi, everyone! Thanks in advance for your attention on my first ever post on the text version of the computer underwear YouTube channel. After installing a new graphics card (from an RX580 4GB to a RTX2070 Super, feels good!), I noticed an occasional ticking sound from (I'm pretty certain) my power supply, an EVGA G2 750W. I've attached a recording I took on my phone that captures the sound, the quality isn't great and since I held my phone right up to the back of the power supply you're also hearing a lot of air being moved, but I think the ticking sound comes through pretty clearly. I haven't noticed anything performance-wise that would lead me to be concerned, the new graphics card is great! However, since I also do a lot of work on my computer, and because I'm obviously anal retentive enough to make this post about it, the sound can be a little distracting when I'm really focusing and there's no other sound happening. It also goes in and out, and doesn't seem to be related to how hard the machine is working (I didn't notice it anymore playing Metro Exodus than I did just working on the desktop). I'm just always afraid of something being a sign of a greater problem, is it worth any further investigation? Thanks again for your time! PSU ticking sound.m4a

Hey everyone, I just finished installing a multiple monitor setup. When I played a video on my left monitor, sound came out from my main monitor. I was wondering if there is any way to automatically route the sound signal to the monitor that is playing the video? If no options are available for windows, is there any free application that lets us do that? Thanks a lot.
