Hi there, what do you guys think, is the best android smartphone for under 300 euros/dollars whatever? (I mean nokia 3310 jokes aside and without any Apple-references, because i think we can say that this shall be a serious thread and so we wont need any Apple-things or jokes about the godhood of a tank grenade disguised as a phone )

Hi, After purchasing a smartphone. I felt I hadn´t done enough research. I found some pages to compare between smartphone-models and brands, but I´m still unsure if those are the best pages to analyze and compare or they are filled with just information based on comercial purposes (infomercials). What pages do u use to compare between models? p.s: When buying smartphones on internet. Which one do u use?

Am I the only one who thinks OIS is overrated?
D13H4RD posted a topic in Photography and Videography
Well, this is going to be controversial to quite a number. But am I the only one who thinks optical stabilization is overrated? First of all, yes, I know what OIS is and I know how it can be useful as I am well aware that it is able to provide a steadier image by compensating for handshake, allowing a slower shutter speed to be utilized. For longer focal lengths, it can be made even more useful as you can stop down the shutter speed to a much lower speed for a lower ISO, resulting in a cleaner image that doesn’t require a lot of destructive NR. It is very useful, but I sometimes feel that people give it too much credit. Personally, I feel that OIS should complement a great sensor and lens combo. I’ve used a lot of cameras with OIS and let’s be real. OIS is great, but it won’t make a camera with a crap sensor and lens combo suddenly be very good. They have to work as a system. This is also why I’m unimpressed at anyone who shuns a camera simply for lacking OIS without taking into account other factors. What if the sensor itself is great at capturing light?- 22 replies

Plain and simple, give me your thoughts. I'm looking at buying either. I've watched pros and cons for both, but need an opinion from a community. Things i want to know about, durability, real world performance, signal reliability Big question for me is IF, or WHEN android O will come to these phones. How has your experience been? Just want some thoughts.

I Personally love the Pixel 2 (Not XL.) I don't see what's the deal with a wide curved screen, I honestly really prefer the so called "Chunky looking" one of the regular Pixel 2. It looks more compact and makes it easier to pull down the notifications menu, which I had a lot of issue doing with my current SmartPhone which has quite a big screen. I guess I just like smaller devices in general. Multitasking is very handy as well, I only wish more apps supported it, such as Netflix. The Stock Android experience in my opinion, is by far the BEST Mobile OS experience ever created (This is also why I Installed stock Android apps by Google on my device and replaced the Stock launcher with Google Now, which makes it easy to search in both the Web and in my Apps list) . The Material look is both a pleasure for my eyes and incredibly minimalistic and easy to use. Every interface has some cool effects to it which don't slow down or lag the Device, and they somehow make the whole thing feel more alive, as in more interactive than previous versions of android (talking about the old JellyBean thoguht, 5.0 was a huge jump for Android). The camera looks sweet, color saturation seems to be amazing and video recording is insanely clear. Also love the look and front facing speakers are the amazing. Probably one of my favorite smartphones of all time, it's just the perfection to me. I was wondering what you think about it. I don't really see whats' the big deal with a bigger smartphone. If I want to watch videos at an high resolution, I just open up my laptop. (Ironically my Laptop has a 764p screen while my Smartphone is 1080p). Also does curved glass even make the difference? I found it such useless.

So, I got this Indian phone that has a Deca-Core 2.3 Ghz (Custom ROM). But it's not as fast as I expected. It sometimes lags and freeze. The phones has 4GB RAM (Always 1GB+ free memory) and 30GB (24 formatted, 13 free), 1080p Display and I confirmed that the Processor was the one advertised. It is. Why so slow then? I don't really play Mobile games but on Mortal Kombat X I get a costant 60 fps (Until it overheats obviously) is it the custom ROM that causes the Lag?

Hey guys I'm in the market for a new headphones/microphones. The current headphones I'm using that has inline mic has pretty bad sound quality, the audio is so low I can't even hear my voice. I'll be mainly using the headphones to record my voice commentating gameplay footage on my smartphones. I want something I can just simply plug into my smartphones headphones jack and start recording my voice, obviously I want the mic quality to be really good. I was consider buying an adapter where I can convert any headphones/microphones to be use on any of my smartphones devices. Something like Rode SC4 TRS to TRRS, I'm not sure if that actually works on a gaming headset though. I was consider buying Blue Yeti and convert it to work with my smartphones. Am I better off going that route? Kill 2 birds with 1 stone? My budget is $100 give or take. Any suggestions. Much appreciated. I found a Sony headphones with mic at my local tech store. I'm not sure how good the mic quality is. I was consider buying it but I want to wait and see if there's better options available. Here's the link to that headphones. It was on sale for $49.99 I believe. https://www.thesource.ca/en-ca/audio-and-headphones/headphones/over-ear/sony-xb550ap-extra-bass-over-ear-headphones-with-in-line-controls---black/p/108065579

I'm looking to get a new android smartphone before college starts and I think this is about the max amount of money my parents are willing to pay. I've been leaning towards the Galaxy S9+ or A70 (I have pretty large hands) but I am open to any other suggestions, what should I ask for?

Hi, Here are the steps for creating your own laptop dock for your smartphone. Works with Samsung S8 and better or Note 8 and better phones as well as Honor/Huawei with Easy Projection and Android handsets running Android Q with HDMI over USB-C. https://support.pi-top.com/en/support/discussions/topics/24000008060

I had this question in my mind for a while, and after discussing it with various acquaintance I figured I'd start a discussion here. I have been browsing and checking out smartphones in the price range of $200 for a while and they seem to provide everything that someone could want from a mobile device. A high resolution display, good performance for multitasking and gaming, fast charging and what not. The average $200 smartphone usually consists of 4GB of RAM, 64 GB ROM, a 1080p Display (LCD obviously) and a decent camera paired with a quick enough processor to handle anything you throw at it with remarkable performance. This raises the question, why would you want to spend more than that on a smartphone? As prices go up, RAM increases to 6 - 8 GB, which are overkill in my opinion, considering my $200 phone, which I got a couple of years ago, can handle 12 apps running at once just fine without shutting down any of them to free up memory. Display resolution may up to 1440p which may look sharper than 1080p but I'm not so sure about that, considering you have to look real hard before you can notice pixels on a 1080p panel. Build quality does get a little better but hardly any phones around $200 have a plastic build, most coming with aluminium frames and in some cases glass backs. Speaking of which, wireless charging is also something you get if you have a greater budget, but it always seemed like a gimmick to me so I don't value it. That said, none of those improvements seem that appealing to someone like me, or to anyone that I know for that matter. A $200 smartphone seems to represent a solid, fast and reliable device. All the more impressive is the fact that my mother's Samsung Galaxy A4 core manages to be as quick as it gets for its $100 price tag (but god forbid you touch games). Of course, the camera is desirable and so is the build, but I find it impressive that a phone that cheap can run that fast, while launching random apps and browsing around a little I really couldn't get it to lag even for a split second. At this point I'm just looking for somebody that can prove me that a $400 or even $700 phone can be worth the price for anyone. Maybe I'm missing something.

EDIT: There are no sources from news websites. I did some googling and apparently this was just announce like a couple of weeks ago, so it will probably get some news articles on it soon. Hey everyone, Volk One is a new smartphone that connects to the internet via other Volk One phones from several miles away using "long-range radio hardware" called Volk Fi. Because, it uses other phones to connect to the internet, speeds would be faster where lots of people in possession of this phone live. It also has a slot for a SIM card to connect to carriers if there aren't any Volk One phones nearby, so it can still operate on a standard 4G network. I really think this could be a revolutionary idea in the smartphone industry if we could support it. You have to get a reservation for the phone (they're probably limited or something) and the phone costs $394 for a Snapdragon 845, Adreno 630, 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM or $494 for a 256GB ROM model. They're website provides more detailed information, but I thought if we could help promote this and make it a thing it would be extremely successful. Please give me your opinions on it. My only grudge is that it doesn't release until December and it is equipped with a Snapdragon 845 instead of the 855.

The German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz) (try pronouncing that in your first try) have a comprehensive database on most of all mainstream smartphone on radiation emission data that are popularly available in the market , according to their research the data suggests that the popular Xiaomi & One plus & several others were found to have a high level of radiation emission from their products, Although to be clear there isn't an international set standard for a widely accepted an absolute "safe level", it is generally considered around 1.6 W/Kg of body weight for the majority as a unofficial safe standard, the companies usually huddle up around this value as a standard to pass certifications that clears them for sales. According to the sites data chart , the budget friendly flagship set of phones were caught up in their higher emission category, which was a surprising thing. Just to note , all smartphones have to pass certification , so it must come under a certain generic value of less than 1.6 W/Kg , to compare Apple usually have a SAR value of around 1.4W/kg under their headset emission standard for most of their product in general which is safe, reason i say this is because this is high but don't get misguided by the news title as dangerously high, like the old alcatel/Motorola days. it isn't that high, it is high, but under a "safe value" high in a way. if that makes sense . but still , look at the chart below & see the top 2 set having passed beyond that safe mark. The Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) is a number that measures the rate at which energy is absorbed by the human body when exposed to radio waves. In mobile industry the specific absorption rate to measure the energy absorbed by a particular mass of human tissue(usually near head), within a certain amount of time. We measure SAR in units of power per mass (W/kg). An important note is that , SAR value differs region to region & accordance with the states/nations official set rule per country basis & manufacturers tune it accordingly to skip & ease out of it just to sell the product & have the product perform efficiently depending on region & signal availability, it's basically pretty volatile in terms of having a standard, since there is no strict universal set standard. this mean something & nothing at the same time, a single SAR value does not provide sufficient information about the amount of RF exposure under typical usage conditions to reliably compare individual cell phone models. Rather, the SAR values collected by the FCC are intended only to ensure that the cell phone does not exceed the FCC’s maximum permissible exposure levels even when operating in conditions which result in the device’s highest possible, i depends & varies according to situation. phones condition, signal range & strength , near tower emissions energy etc, a lot of things come to play to gauge it accurately . (demo video on how the SAR value is observed in the industry) ^^^ Radiation absorption across certain age group according to an old research , the difference is due to tissue condensation difference. (ignore the killer tag, it was the only stock pic i could find showing how radiation surrounds us) So the question , where's Samsung? did they deliberately omit them from the above list? Turns out they surprisingly had some of the lowest radiation emitting handsets available in the market right now , consider that , after exploding phones & what not , it was actually one of the safest in terms of radiation emission ,surprisingly well below the current standard kept by the industry. So what do you guys think about this? post your comments & thoughts down below, comment on whether you were surprised to see the results coming from the major retailer so high & so so low on the list, especially one plus.apple & Samsung having contrasting difference. This is cool for those like me who use their phones as media machines. My note 9 has 512gb internal and 400gb external, I've come close to filling it all for long trips. It's also blazing fast: What's also awesome is this could allow easier access to super slow-mo cameras: This news makes it more likely the rumors about the upcoming S10 phones having a 1TB option more likely, and it looks like other phone manufacturers will be able to use Samsung's 1TB chips soon: I'm personally looking forward to high speed 1TB phones, but I'm sure I'm not in the majority, and agree this is overkill for most users. My mother-in-law just added a 16gb SD card to her 5gb phone because she finally filled the 5gb of internal storage haha. Who else like big internal storage ? Source: Gizmodo, CNET

I am conflicted between Pocophone F1 and Nokia 8(regular one not sirroco). I am starting my computer engineering course this year and have not developed for smartphones but I may be doing so(not so sure). So much difference will stock android make. Will it make it easier for testing and development if needed. As far as pocophone custom rom and other development is being carried out so does this solve the issue. Or will stock android still help.

I should be getting a new phone very soon, I've done my research for the last 2-3 months and I've come to the conclusion that the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is the best choice for me and possibly for the price. It has everything I'd want, sadly it's not the "best" in any aspect but everything on it seems to be quite solid, unlike a lot of phones of which some have a great camera, CPU, display etc. but lack a few other features that are a must. There is one thing that I found a few different answers and I'm not sure which is true, that's about the A2 Lite's glass. Some sources say it's Gorilla glass 3, some say it's Gorilla glass 5 (I doubt this) and some say it's not Gorilla glass at all. I've watched those drop and scratch tests and the glass and screen seem to hold up great, although I've had people tell me theirs got scratched not long after getting them. But that's just something I'd like to know, I'll be getting a glass protector and a full flip case for it just to be sure anyway. But if anyone has any experience with it or knows of any good and/or bad things about the phone I'd appreciate if you'd share it to help me decide if I should go for it or pass.

I Know that around here we talk mostly about pc realted tech but I thought someone could give me a hand First and foremost, I from Argentina which means prices don't follow any logical rule. I really but really like OnePlus. For the past year always knew that if I had to buy a phone I would go with the 7pro. When the 8pro came out, I fall in love, until I heard the price. The fact it's that if I wanna buy a OnePlus phone, it need to be imported from other country. My main option is Amazon Europe, since things usually get here with no much trouble, except for the 30% tax (big off). Recently have been thinking that the 7pro would still be a great phone but will end up costing 800 dollars and don't think it's fair. On the other hand, Samsung phones prices are somewhat cheap, I'm talking 700 for the S20 and 790ish for the S20 plus. Up to here seems as a no brainer, go with Samsung, after all they are good phones, no OnePlus, but good phones. Here's were things start to get tricky, Samsung only sells exynos here. Heard and read not very good things of those. I've been rocking a $250 Moto G4 for the past 4 years, which dies whenever the battery goes under 30%, and my love and enthusiasm for technology has lead me wanting get a good phone for the first time in my life. To sum up, don't know if I have any other option in this situation, any solution/suggestion is highly welcomed. Until then I'll go and cry in my room trying to figure out a smart way so as to get inside a suitcase and go live somewhere else.

Preface: I am by no means against a metal frame. I think it greatly improves rigidity but I also don't understand why wouldn't want to Here are some reasons why why they are superior: They are lighter. Your phone will have less momentum when you drop it and will be easier to hold up for extended periods of time It is cheaper. This doesn't just mean it is cheaper to produce & buy but also easier and significantly cheaper to fix. It is harder to break. When you drop a plastic phone it scratches instead of shattering (seeing as apparently glass is the favored alternative by the complainers™) Imo scratches on plastic are a lot less visible than on glass and in some cases can even be buffed out with relatively minimal effort. That isn't possible with glass Glass is a fingerprint magnet. It looks cool new and on renders but in practice it always looks dirty. Just look at your phone's screen right now! Plastic exerpts that issue a lot less Plastic can do a lot more elastic deformation as opposed to glass, which will crack a lot sooner. Some neutral points: You can make plastic just as colorful as glass. You area a bit more flexible with surface finishes since glass wil mostly have some sort of remaining shine. On the other hand plastic shine isn't built to last very long. Most people use a case that covers the back cover anyway, so why do they even care?? Some more negative thoughts of mine Paint on plastic will inevitably chip and look like garbage. Reference old samsung phones with silver painted plastic trim. That was the definition of a horrible idea. It scratches a lot more easily because it is a softer material. People say it feels a lot less premium. That might be because it is lighter or because it is less heat conductive and will feel warmer to the touch. I personally think this is idiotic. Just look at where the weighty feel of powersupplies pushed the industry: Some manufacturers putting literal DEAD weight into cheap PSUs to make them 'feel' more premium. Feel free to add to or oppose my points. I would love to hear if I was fundamentally wrong about any of these or if I forgot to add any major dis-/advantages. PS: Yes, this was inspired by people whining about the plastic below the Short Circuit of the Pixel 4a.

Hey LTT forums, I have been using a galaxy s7 edge for 2.5 years know and it has been a rather pleasant experience but I want to return to an iOS device. I watched the keynote and I got very mixed feeling about what I should get. Apart from the thickness and the single camera config the XR seems like a great deal but the LCD screen really bothers me. Should I get the XS for the steel build and the better screen or is 250 dollars too much for that kind of improvement? Please let me know. (ps: please keep in mind that I will not buy the XS max and I can afford both the XS and the XR but as a student I have to consider the cheaper one if the differences are minor.)
