So about a year ago I posted about making a home server but I hadn't really gotten around to it till this week. I ended up buying a NAS(DS918+) instead of building a full blown custom built server unit for the house for the time being. I figure in the future worst case I can either keep it for storage or just sell the NAS and move the RAID over to another unit. Anyway I started a Plex media server on it and it handles 2ish streams well enough which is really all I need right now. I have about a 45 disc Blu-Rei movie collection and a sizeable collection of TV show box sets to rip varying from DVD to Blu Ray on some of the older ones. As I am ripping them they are coming out to be large files(19GB to 22GB for the Blu-ray discs) which is fully expected. I also know that I can compress them with something like handbreak, but I had heard that I would need to convert them to a file format to something IOS could however my girlfriend's I-Pad can run them just fine. Do I need to convert them for something else to work correctly or is it just to reduce the size of the files over all for mass storage? Another question I have is related to the first is that when I am streaming something like "Spider-Man man homecoming"(22GB) over the net while I am at work is that streaming all 22GB over the net? I know that seems like an obvious answer but just asking to be sure. Anyway thank you for you time in reading my post!

Hi Everyone! So I'm planning a potential build for a friend of mine (he still hasn't decided to go through with it or not) and I had an idea for covering PCI-e cards (WiFi card and some 3.1 USB card thing) with a vertical GPU. I know there's a HWC video not to use them because of temps or whatever, but I was wondering if any case manufacturers spaced the vertical GPU mount enough to allow space for the other expansion cards to fit behind it. I know it's probably the biggest hassle ever even if it does fit, but I have to admit I'm a sucker for vertical GPU's and I think it would look amazing. Anyways let me know if you've tried this or know if it works!!

Hey guys just checking which one of these laptops would be better for me? So far, I've narrowed it down to 3 options: ASUS UX310UA ZenBook 13.3" 7th Gen Core i5 Laptop - https://www.centrecom.com.au/asus-ux310ua-133-fhd-intel-7th-gen-core-i5-laptop $1245 AUD / $941 USD Asus Zenbook UX310UA FHD Intel Core i3 Laptop - https://www.centrecom.com.au/asus-zenbook-ux310ua-fhd-intel-core-i3-laptop $899 AUD / $680 USD Asus Vivobook Slim K405UA 14'' HD Intel Core i5 Laptop - Dark Grey - https://www.centrecom.com.au/asus-vivobook-slim-k405ua-14-hd-intel-core-i5-laptop-dark-grey $899 AUD / $680 USD I'm going to be using the laptop for schoolwork and internet browsing, and battery life and size are something which I would like to be on the good end of the scale. Also, if there are any other laptops I should consider please let me know. Thanks guys Btw my budget is roughly 700-750 USD or $800-$1000 AUD but I included the UX310UA with the i5 for comparision

Hey everyone! I am here because I need some help. I was eyeing to purchase a Dell P4317Q or a 43" LG that uses the same display (made by LG), which Linus actually reviewed. I'm currently running a Dell 2515H monitor, which is quite a popular monitor. I like its size, resolution, color reproduction and brightness. I bought the Philips version of 43", which is named BDM4350, which I am returning after 15 minutes of usage due to extremely poor brightness, faded colors and just poor image in general. I have a question: Besides the pixel density, which will be lower on P4317Q, how is the brightness and the color reproduction, when compared to Dell 2515H? Is it at least as good as 2515H? What other monitor should I be looking at? I don't game, so no need for high refresh rates, G-Sync or anything like that, but I need extreme brightness (An entire wall of my room is basically a window, so I need at least 350 - 400 dm/m2 to use a monitor comfortably during the day). I require 4K resolution along with a size larger than 25", preferably 32", and most importantly, high color space coverage. No need for absolutely 100% adobeRGB color space coverage, but I need the colors to look as vibrant as possible, with the color space going as much above sRGB as possible., My budget is around 1k$ - 1,2k$, with a little flexibility. I mainly use my monitor for video and anime consumption along with programming and working with professional image editing. I noticed that border issue with the Philips as well actually, seems that all large monitors have that border issue unless you underscan, and to contribute to this thread, I absolutely advice against Philips BDM4350 as it is dim, colors look bad, and it has a dimming of the brightness towards the corners, loking quite low quality. Any help is appreciated, and looking forward to everyone's input!

I know there's pretty much a fair few of these sort of topics already but I'm still kinda stumped due to the heavily varying opinions. So I figured I'd ask and mention my specific case scenario. In a few months I plan to build a whole new pc build, I'm planning on getting a PS4 Pro (I'm PC/PS4) along with it or a little later [Depends on how money works out.] so I'll need a 4K Display. I would also like the 4K Display in general though to see how 4K PC Gaming is. Been holding off playing The Witcher 3 until I get this setup, lol. I also use Adobe Premeire Pro and Adobe Photoshop from time to time so I think it'd be pretty nice to have the extra real estate. My issue is that I kinda want to avoid having to deal with UI Scaling issues. I remember in some professional 4K Monitor Review from I believe HardwareCanucks that it was mentioned Adobe Photoshop (Don't remember about Premeire) didn't really scale well with the Windows scaling. (Which is on Adobe rather than Windows. But, I'd still like to minimize impact for myself) So I was looking at a 32'' since some recommended 32'' (Although. These were recommended in like 2~ year old threads/reddits that were before these were actually available) and I came upon this monitor which I like since I want IPS and the sRGB coverage would be a nice bonus. BenQ PD3200U - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1308751-REG/benq_pd3200u_32_led_monitor_3840x2160.html Before seeing some people saying 27''/28'' is still too small for 4K though I was considering this: ASUS PG27AQ - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1260743-REG/asus_pg27aq_27_widescreen_republic.html Costs a tad more ($100) but I think having G-Sync would make the monitor perfect all-round for when I'm gaming but it's 27''. (Although I've never really noticed screen tearing frankly... but just to avoid it I just use V-Sync) Also just recently ran upon this one: Acer Predator XB271HK - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1217291-REG/acer_um_hx1aa_002_predator_xb271hk_27_16_9.html Which is a tad less ($100) but I don't know about it's color coverage since it's unmentioned. Still 4K, IPS, 27'', G-Sync though. I guess I could bare with that though. I don't know the color coverage (also unmentioned) of my current monitor and I do plan to keep it for a multi-monitor setup so I guess it would blend together better?... In terms of color reproduction across the monitor setup that is. (23'' 1080p IPS btw.) Note: Don't want bigger than 32''. Plan to add in another of my current monitor with the 4K one and I don't really want it overwhelmingly bigger, lol. Although... I don't think I'd mind so much if I could have a monitor stand where I could have the two 1080p monitors side-by-side and the 4K ontop of them. I think that'd be perfect. I'd prefer a single uniform stand but maybe a dual-monitor stand + a single-monitor arm could work? Also I saw there was a 32'' IPS 4K G-Sync, but I don't want to blow $1100... $600-900 is already steep enough investment as is, lol. Note 2: Don't care about High Refresh Rate. So uphold recommending "Just go 1440p 144Hz" or similar. Plus since I'd also like to use it for my PS4 Pro, that wouldn't really work out... Need 4K specifically and I'm not interested in trying to upkeep the power over the years for HFR 4K. Plus I'll probably be sticking with my 1070 and just turning down settings initially anyway. So don't need to make it any harder a task.

I was thinking of getting this used motherboard, but I can't seem to understand one thing, it has 4 slots of DDR3 but only supports 8GB? If it does, are there any other LGA775 motherboards which would support more than that?

Hi Everybody, I just purchased the NZXT H700i in all black and waiting for delivery next week. I got a couple of things that i want to modify and one of those is the clear tempered glass. I called up the local wheeler dealer who does professional tinting jobs on cars and they said that they could take of this tempered glass from my new computer chassis :-) Have anybody else done this? Does anybody know what's the measurements of the the glass itself is? I need to know this so i can book a time with the tinting shop and get a price estimate. Thanks in advance guys!

Hey so I'm trying to find a better pump for my distribution plate for my case. It uses a ddc pump mounted directly to the plate. I was hoping to change the stock one I have over to an ekwb 3.2 elite. I know the mounting holes for the screws are the same, 50x50. From what I can gather the size of the pumps looks to be generally the same as well. But are there height differences with the impellers? I know my d5 has one that sticks out and ddc is more inside the pump. But idk if it will fit on there well, and Bykski doesn't really seem to keen on helping. Is my only option going to be to order it to try it out?

http://comparesizes.com/ Found this site which gives a relative comparison between objects of different dimensions. Maybe useful to compare case sizes, thought to share here.

Yo! I'm looking to buy a Wan stealth Hoodie from Teespring and wondered if anyone in the UK who has bought one could advise me as what to what size to get? I've bought clothes from America before and you usually have to buy the size down from your usual size to get what you're after. Just wondering if Teespring uses Canadian/American Sizes (or if they're even two different things) or what the deal is. Don't really want to spend ~£50 to get the total wrong size. P.S. I'm usually a Large in the UK. Cheers in advance guys

I am considering buying a 49' 4K TV to use as a monitor (I am aware of all the HDMI 1.4/2.0 refresh rate stuff, input lag, etc.). However in some use cases 49' is too much, so the perfect solution would be to virtually reduce the size of the screen. QHD virtual screen would take about 32.5', which is perfect for me, so is it possible at all?

I'm looking to get an Ultrawide monitor in the near future to complete my 3-monitor surround setup. Ay my current state I have two 27" 16:9 monitors, and I want an ultrawide for the center display. As I don't like off-sized displays meaning one is narrower top-bottom than another, what 21:9 display is as close to the same height as possible to a 27" 16:9? Not including stand, just in terms of display area? Through a little math I assume a 34" 21:9 is but I just want some clarification. Thank you in advance for any and all help.

I've started using Illustrator recently. What size should the canvas or document be, and does it matter? Also do different tasks require a larger/smaller canvas e.g working with type, logos, posters. I'm playing around with typefaces for a title sequence @Learnsquared and the instructor specifies "big" but not dimensions or what units etc. Any tips on this would be great. Thanks

I would need your input on something. Do you think it's better to use a larger monitor with a bit lower resolution or a smaller monitor with a higher resolution? Talking about a 22" 1680x1050 16:10 vs a 21" 1920x1080 16:9. Both are TN with DVI. The larger is a Samsung SM 2253BW while the other is a Philips 226VL. The 22" just seems larger, a lot larger, which is strange. Here's the poll: www.strawpoll.me/10693210 I need to choose between those two monitors (have both, but one has to be on the main rig and the other on the rig in the living room). And I have a second screen, a LG L192WS (1440x900, 16:10, pixels large like the ones on the SM2263BW). Also, since the Samsung and LG are both CCFL they are easier to match color than when using the Philips with the LG.

Ideal diagonal screen size. I know that some phones (like iphones) have larger bezels but whatever, just don't worry about it. Personally, I like phablets.

Hello. As you can see in this linus' video in minute 1:00, there is a radiator (I guess is the nepton 280mm) that has 120mm mounting holes. I am currently looking for a radiator 30mm thick or slimmer that also has 120mm mounting holes that is 280mm big. This way I can use push-pull without "hitting" the motherboard since I would be using the low profile raijintek fans Aeolus Alpha I think they are called. (No publicity is intended). I want a standalone radiator to use it in a custom made watercooling loop. Thank you. Sorry if I wrote something incorrectly, I'm Spanish,..

I must buy to fit in this damm MSI GL62 6QF-627 (which I haven't bought yet) ? ----> it doesn't come with an SSD I tried on MSI's trashy website, tried with their facebook page (where they sent me somewhere with no answers), tried on reddit, on MSI's forums Well yeah, this is my last resort (seriously, M.2 is a pain in the ***************) Thanks for the answers

So I'm in the process of building a cheapo ITX system, and it would be my first ITX build. I have an EVGA 400w ATX PSU, and the stock cooler for an 860k. What case will these two fit into with a decent airflow? I was looking at the SilverStone SG13B, and the Cooler Master Elite 130. Will I be alright with any of these?

Hi all I can't decide on what size SSD I need. I currently have a 64gb one but there is only 6gb remaining and I need to install certain software on my C drive such as Visual Studio and Autodesk Maya. So my choices are either a 120gb or a 240gb, questions is do I really need a 240gb, yes it would be nice but where I live a 240gb costs around R600-R1000 more than a 120gb. So I want to be sure before I buy something that pricy. SSD's I've been looking at 240gb & 120gb Thanks for any help

Hello. When OLED was first being developed, I remember the problem being how to replicate the technology on large scales. There was a six figure OLED TV released some years ago that was ~20" if I remember correctly. Why is it that when I go looking for an OLED TV in the 37"-44" range, I cannot find any, let alone a 4K one? I realize some may feel that the reason there are no 4K in that size may be that you have to have a larger screen to benefit from the increased resolution. But I am very happy with my 27" 4K computer monitors from ASUS. Thanks!
