building a new Computer for myself and the family. so far I have: thermaltake Chasar A71 case (full tower) EVGA G1 750W PSU (yes I know it's a G1... (will try it for now, then possibly upgrade to the G2, or bigger should the SLI980 need it) Gigabyte Z170A UD5 mobo Cooler master H212 cpu cooler still to order (waiting on tax return. Sm951 256gb M.2 SSD in RAID 0, or I may just go with 1 Samsung 950 PRO 256gb. i7 6700K 16GB of corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB sticks (black), leaving upgradeable to 32GB. 1 500GB SSD scratch drive (dunno which one, doesnt have to be lightning fast, just a scratch drive for editing/short term storage before going onto my 4TB+ NAS, or getting burned. this will comprise the system and will run with onboard graphics until I build up a little scratch to buy either a 980ti (future SLI), or Titan X(single) with a decent 4k monitor. waiting on new releases from AMD/NVIDIA.

Hi all , I was just wondering, how long I would be able to get away with running a custom loop with distilled water without a kill coil for until algae and what not starts to be an apparent issue. The loop isn't set up so don't panic yet, it's just I've got everything ready but cannot source a kill coil and wanted to know If I could set the loop up, and continue the search for one near by, keeping in mid this wouldn't probably take more than a week. Cheers, - Turner

Hi there! I'm a Silver Elite (with 12 completive wins) looking for similar players to try and rank up and get out of Silver and up into Gold Nova. I'd say I'm a pretty decent player (for Silver league anyway). I have my good games and my bad games, as we all do. I don't know many flashes/smokes, so could do with learning some decent strats. Favourite maps (in preferred order, kinda): Dust II Mirage Overpass Nuke Inferno Cache Let me know if you want to play some Comp games - I'm usually playing at some point between 5pm-midnight [uK time] depending on what I'm up to that evening. I also like to play custom games 5v5 with ESL server rules. (Often more like 1v1/2v2 with bots as fillers to make it 5v5) - Just to practise actually hitting targets with my bullets.

Ok so i just saw msi has a new z170 chip board out called.... xpower titanium.... there was a clean up on isle 3 cause i jizzed in my pants (like if you get the reference). Well its an all silver and black board. Beautiful look. Well besides beuty it actuualy seems good, huge power delivery 8+4 pin cpu power. Lots of OC features and what not, but something REALLY new. Dual full size m.2 ssd mounts right on the board!!!! Does anyone know if these m.2 slots are raid 0 enabled, cause i love fast storage and i would do anything for a 2x512gb m.2 raid 0 storage.... 4gb/s omg. Im dying for more infor on the motherboard, im already planning a nice liquid build using the maybem aurora 2 silver coolant with some de-anodized waterblocks from xspc..... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm http://gaming.msi.com/products/motherboard/z170a-gaming-series

All the time I'll see people recommend PSUs based on efficiency. This, although fundamentally a good idea so that you don't end up with a stick and some chewing gum powering your system, shows that most do not understand what 80 PLUS efficiency implies. Let's get a couple myths out of the way: - "A higher 80 PLUS rating correlates to better quality." Incorrect. Certain components in a PSU do need to be of a certain quality to achieve higher efficiency (typically MOSFETs and diodes), however, quality of soldering, certain capacitors, etc, can be forgone in achieving an exemplary 80 PLUS rating. Electrical performance can be ditched as well. I like to use the EVGA G1 as an example of this. It's made of above average componentry, performs lackingly, and achieves gold efficiency. Then there's the EVGA B2, which is constructed about as well, performs better electrically, and advertises 80 PLUS Bronze efficiency (it actually achieves 80 PLUS Silver efficiency but that standard has been given up by and large). The EVGA B2 is a better PSU than the G1, yet it wastes slightly more electricity. This will correlate to a marginally more expensive power bill (pennies on the dollar for most home users) but ensures you a better power supply for your money. If, however, you plan to run a very power-hungry system for several hours on end then a more efficient power supply can save a more noticeable amount of money, especially if used heavily during hours of the day where electricity is more expensive. On another note: some brands will undersell their unit's rated wattage if it can achieve higher efficiency at lower loads, I.E. a brand may sell a 550W 80 PLUS Platinum rated unit that can actually output 600W+ but would have to be advertised at a lower efficiency rating if they were to sell it at that rated wattage. - "Higher 80 PLUS efficiency keeps the PSU cooler." Not to any serious degree, but this is technically true. A less efficient PSU will waste more electricity and wasted electricity is turned into heat. This is not likely to have an appreciable impact on the temperature of your room or system however as your system doesn't really draw that much power, thus it's better to optimize your system's airflow before throwing an AX1500i in your system to minimize heat created by the power supply. Since PSUs exhaust heat anyways the temperature of your system's hardware will not be impacted to any noticeable degree. Different PSUs also handle cooling differently and 80 PLUS efficiency doesn't correlate to the size of the fan used or the heat-dissipation abilities of the unit. - "Power supplies are most efficient at around 50% load." This is, by and large, untrue, and seems to be set in stone by many simply because the peak efficiency measured by Ecova's testing of just three load levels is at 50% always. Many manufacturers or reviewers test PSU efficiency at different loads and post charts online, if this matters to you, but many PSUs are more efficient at 60% load than 50% and many are more efficient towards 30%. Don't buy a PSU based on how efficient it will be with whatever hardware you have in it. Different topologies and different PSU platforms handle efficiency differently. This should be a non-issue and you should be looking at buying the best PSU you can get with your money. - "If you have a 1000W PSU with an 80% efficiency then you are only going to be able to get 800W from your power supply." This is incorrect. If you have an 80% efficient 1000W PSU then, when putting it under enough load to max its output you are going to be drawing more power from the walls - not losing output from your power supply. In this instance, putting a 1000W PSU under max load with an 80% efficiency would mean you're drawing 1250 watts from the wall. Math goes as such: X / Y= Z 1000W / .80 = 1250 1250W drawn from the wall X represents the wattage you're using (say 350W with a Ryzen 7 3700X and RTX 2080 Super under 100% system load), Y represents the efficiency in decimals (an 85% efficient PSU would be .85), and Z represents your total system draw from the wall. For this calculation we're assuming that the PSU in question has exactly enough wattage to power the system at 100% load and is 87% efficient at 100% draw, making it an 80+ Gold efficient power supply. So in our case with the 3700X and 2080 Super: 350 / .87 = 402 watts drawn from your power outlet Note, however, that efficiency is not consistent throughout the load of the power supply. Power supplies are more and less efficient at different loads. They are also more efficient when connected to a more powerful grid, the 230V nominal, which you may use if you don't live in North America. Check that your PSU allows for operation under both voltages. Most modern ones switch operation automatically. Other, often older units, will have a hard switch at the back of the unit to switch to choose from either 115V or 230V (note, DO NOT SWITCH TO THE ONE THAT DOESN'T MATCH THE ELECTRICAL OUTPUT OF YOUR WALL OUTLET! This doesn't usually end well!). This graph demonstrates the efficiency curve of a 2011-era Corsair TX750 when plugged into a 115V AC versus being plugged into a 230V AC. Note the TX750 is an 80+ Bronze rated PSU. If you live in the United States, for example, you are using a 110-120V (115 nominal) AC through a standard NEMA 5-15 socket. Your power supply may be more or less efficient than your manufacturer claims because they may advertise efficiency through a 230V AC, though standard 80 PLUS efficiency testing is done on a 115V AC. Note that these tests for efficiency are also done under very specific test environments and do not necessarily reflect real-world scenarios so you may achieve higher or lower efficiency than rated by the manufacturer. And just to finish up let's go list the various 80 PLUS ratings and their efficiency at different power draws on a 115V and 230V AC as well as 230V AC redundant. Note that Silver isn't really used anymore and the efficiency of a PSU that would achieve Silver certification would typically just be rounded up or down to Bronze or Gold. "230V internal redundant" refers to efficiency in a redundant scenario like in a data center. This guy from Dell explains it. One last thing I want to make a little more hard-hitting here. 80 PLUS efficiency ratings were invented to save corporations and industrial services money in the long-term, not home users! A company with 1000 computers all consuming 100W for 10 hours a day will see a much greater benefit from having all 80 PLUS Titanium units in their systems than you likely would with your system. Don't spend tons of money trying to get a super efficient PSU when a PSU that's just as good, costs less, and achieves a tier lower 80 PLUS rating is drastically cheaper. Resources: Ecova (formerly Ecos), the 80 PLUS certification founder (and located very near me in Portland!) Wikipedia - There's more info here if you want to go down the Wikipedia rabbit hole Plug Load Solutions - A list of all PSU companies and how many different PSUs they have that achieve Ecova's various 80 PLUS standards.

What is the difference beetween Platinum // Gold // Silver // Bronze ?

Hey folks, im just want to know what is this 80+ in psu's, the bronze, silver, gold and platinum efficiency, and about getting more watts of psu for your rig, but your rig only consumes this amount, and doing that is bad, can someone explain me this, Thanks in advance

Hey Everyone Just wondering if i needed to use any kinds of sterilisation with mayhems pastel dye and Distilled water Like a silver coil or something like that. Thanks

hey, me and a friend were talking on skype for a bit ago and we began to discuss why they use gold in PCs instead of silver. Silver is technically a better electrical conductor than gold ... so why dont they use silver? last time the gold was checked, was expensive than silver, right?

What size are the fans on the Thermalright Silver Arrow? They look like 140mm fans in various pictures, but I would like to be sure. On a related note, if I installed square framed 140mm fans on the Silver Arrow, would the fans stick up over the top/bottom of the fins? Also are there any other dual tower heatsinks that you can recommend that would perform similarly to the Silver Arrow, other than the NH-D14. Many thanks, FizzyFantom

Hey guys, I've done a thread asking for the best water cooling colour scheme and I got mixed results. The fact of the matter is that its all subjective and its up to the builder. So I thought about this for a bit and have decided on a few colour schemes. Here is the few: White accents, Silver blocks, Black overall Yellow accents, Gold blocks, Black overall Mix of Black and White with some colored LEDs lighting up the system. So, this is simply what I've come up with so far. Its not much but I hope its an idea. I anything else is ok too. I dont mind. The only thing about water cooling is that I don't really like red and/or green. Why? because there is too much of it and the image with builds like these is that they all seem as if they're overdone. Especially green (No Offence meant). Also, Red feels like its too overrated. Just all my opinions thou. Would be greatly appreciated if you guys could help me out here. If not, that's fine too. I came here to kindly ask for suggestions, not to demand them. Thanks in Advance,

So, I had a previous thread with a poll. 1 was Gold, 2 was Silver, 3 was Bronze. Depending on if I still have the income I do now next month, I'll probably upgrade to gold. But otherwise, you have all chosen my fate edit: apologies for taking so long on this, had to deactivate a PayPal account, restore my old email, change some passwords, verify a few dozen things, and then make a new account, using my current information, find a way to bypass linking my bank and having them verifying it, and then paying, only to have to verify payment via text, with my phone in the kitchen. It was a tough journey to get here.

Hi guys! So basically I am planning a new build, but I'm struggling with finding the right parts. Gonna try make this as understandable as possible, hopefully. So originally I was gonna go with a Corsair 350D with a G1. Sniper M5 and a GTX 780 (green, black and silver theme), which I think would look cool if I built it, but lately I've been interested in the new Carbide Air 540, also from Corsair, mainly because of the bigger size, expandability (with better support for the watercooling I may be doing) and special looks it offers. I don't really need an m-atx case as I have lots of room for a case, BUT the main disadvantage of the Air 540 is that it's hard to stick with the same color scheme (which I really want) whilst still keeping it affordable, and it might also look a bit underpowered/off if I had an m-atx case, and/or if I just had the single card in there. I've considered multiple options like going with an Asus Sabertooth Z87, doing another color scheme, or buying a more normal case like the Switch 810, the problem is that those options don't really "support" the look I wanna go for (unique, green/black/silver). So if you guys have any input as to what case/motherboard/graphics card(s), I would be very happy! Thanks in advance!

Well alrighty guys I will be posting my build log. This is it ! Right here right now . Well on with the build I do not have a name for it yet but I would like you to help me out with that please. Also the purpose of this build will mainly be gaming but I would like to explore the realm of photo shop and video editing. I plan to order the parts next weekend as to take part in the tiny bit of sales I get here in Canada for Black Friday. The part list Intel Core i5-4670K Corsair H75 MSI Z87I Mini Corsair Dominator Platinum 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Samsung 840 EVO 120GB Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200RPM MSI N780-3GD5 (Stock cooler) Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Tower SeaSonic SSR-550RM Microsoft Windows 8.1 Swiftech HELIX 120BW PWM Alrighty so the color theme of this build will be more of black, white, and silver. This is where the stock cooler comes in play for the gpu pulling this look together, I was always thinking that I was going to go with the acx cooler but I remembered the stock cooler was a thing. If you guys have any thoughts I what a could change let me know. Oh one more thing I am kinda sad that this case will not be having a window and the case labs stuff is expensive and I am only air cooling soo I may change cases if corsair ever comes out with a itx case and I like it because of the thread George posted so hopefully a case from them will hit the market that will allow me to use the case color scheme. Thanks, Golden

Hey guys, the title sais it all! What is your league? What's your favourite build? (the build doesn't have to be pro by the way, just what you usually do). Hopefully it's not a repost, I haven't found a thread like this one but maybe it exists... I'm platinum (terran). My favourite build is 10 depot 12 barracks 12 gas 15 orbital 15 reaper 16 cc 17 factory + reactor @barracks 18 depot #2
