Budget (including currency): £500-600 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Office tasks and very light gaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I already have a 120gb SSD and a 1.5tb hard drive (although that is very slow). Must be able to plug in 2 monitors that are both 1080p 60 FPS. The main purpose is for working at home so it should have no GPU, that money should be spent on better CPU or quieter fans. I would like this PC to be as quiet as possible, (am willing to spend more money on this as there is no GPU). No peripherals or accessories needed. I have been looking at the Ryzen APUs as an option as I would like this PC to be able to do light gaming if possible (Forza Horizon 4). Aesthetics don't matter at all, I don't want RGB or a case side window.

I use my pc for mostly gaming, but also for occasional audio recording. Of course gaming requires power and therefore cooling, but when I record I want silence. So I have a bunch of questions. How do people usually go about silent builds? Would it be realistic/possible to use liquid cooling on high-end parts and deeply underclock them so that they can been passively/fanlessly cooled in silence? (If that question isn't clear, here's an example of what I mean. If I was to buy a 1080ti and underclock it to the point where it gets the performance of a 1070, would it run cool enough that an AIO radiator could cool it effectively without a fan?) Or is this a terrible way to approach the problem? I have far more ideas than money, so this is mostly coming from a place of curiosity.

Hi guys, i would like to refresh the look of my pc with an AIO "always loved the look" but i'm not sure about it and i have a few questions. Currently i have a R5 1600 3.85Ghz cooled by a MachoRevB, very quiet with good performance but pretty much as big as the entire pc. I would like to have at least the same performance and even more importante the same noise output from it. The best i can find here in italy seems to be: *ARCTIC Liquid Freezer 240 at 99€: that came with 4 fans, but i probably don't have enough clearance to mount it in push-pull. *ID FROSTFLOW + 280 at 69€: seems decent but i can't find any good review. *DeepCool Captain 240EX at 109€: love the desing, not sure about performance and noise. Your turn !

Hey all! I need your help to get the brain moving on how to solve two issues. I'm trying to: Get my pc as quiet as possible or silent. Either by changing hardware, or moving it to another room. Utilize 4 monitors. Ideally 4 connections, 2 mirroring the other two. Hdmi splitter is my current set up. I have 3 HDMI cables going to the gpu, 2 using a DVI adapter. However, I can only ever get two monitors to work at once. I also have a displayport to hdmi active adapter, but haven't tried that yet as I still can only get 2 monitors working. That's why I have the splitters, that works, I just have to switch my displays in display settings as my desk is side by side and the vocal booth monitors are stacked. I'm going to give you lots of details to hopefully prevent some back and forth. First off, here is my PC https://pcpartpicker.com/user/wheflin/saved/6nqgsY text of the build will be at the bottom. I have 4 Asus monitors that have only HDMI and VGA connections. Two monitors are on my desk, the others are in my vocal booth. Here's where things get tricky. This is my work computer and I am a full time professional Voice Actor. I record in my vocal booth (a Whisperroom). When the door is shut, it is SILENT, I'm talking -70dbfs. I just recently set up a desk outside of my booth for work that doesn't require recording, however, I'd like to eliminate the PC noise as much as possible so I can record quick auditions outside of the booth when they come in. Ideally it needs to be silent, that's goal number one. If that isn't reasonable or is too expensive (over $300 to implement) next best is as quiet as possible. Currently, my Whisperroom monitors and peripherals are plugged into 15ft extension cables and I have it ran to my closet. I thought this would help, but it doesn't. The closet is by the desk. I just installed the Dark Rock 4 and that cut the most noise down. I think the next loudest thing is my PSU. Here are things I've thought of or tried: Long extension cables - problem: can't get it far enough away to justify the cables, I could run it through a wall but the only option is to a basement living room and I would need longer cables and have to drill a hole. Moving it to another room - favorite option, but have some roadblocks: would need even longer extension cables and that's a huge chunk of cables to run. Is there an easier way to send all my peripherals to my PC without individual cables? I thought about going the ole' Linus route, upgrading to Intel and using a thunderbolt cable through the wall and using an elgato dock - besides price, what is wrong with this option? No displayports on monitors? Streaming from another PC somehow - concerned about performance, especially when I have live directed sessions with my clients. Would prefer not to rely on internet. Upgrading hardware - pricey, especially for a near perfect solution Using a second PC for the desk area that is quieter, like a solid state laptop? Not my favorite option, just brainstorming. One other detail, I work almost exclusively off of my home server as far as my files are concerned. That's where I'm at. I'm looking for ideas, big and small, come one come all! Help me, Brothers of the Binary, I must have victory. I hope we can just start a discussion with ideas back and forth, I'm open to hearing any ideas, even half ideas! Thanks for your help and ideas! It is my first time posting here, so my apologies if there are any issues! ~*~ PC Specs: CPU: AMD - FX-8150 3.6GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: be quiet! - Dark Rock 4 CPU Cooler Motherboard: ASRock - 970 Pro3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Storage: Kingston - A400 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card: Sapphire - Radeon R9 270X 2GB Dual-X Video Card Case: be quiet! - Dark Base 900 (Black/Orange) ATX Full Tower Case Power Supply: Raidmax - 735W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply Optical Drive: LG - GH24NSC0B DVD/CD Writer Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit

So my HDD is very noisy.... its a toshiba (or hitatchi lol ) 3TB and it sounds louder than all the rest of my case (4fans and a cpu cooler) it does not make any colicky noises it just "vibrates" and makes that fan like sound because its constantly spinning at full throttle or something (also its almost brand new with minimum write read I dont believe its defective i think its just that its noisy as a model) the thing is that I am not using its content frequently so I wonder if there is a way to turn it off (or decrease the spinning) when not in use... I tried the power setting in windows (screenshot just for reference not my actual system) and set it for 1 minute but I waited like 10 (without having any window on etc and without using the pc) but the HDD still spins as loud as ever !! My main windows installation is on an SSD. I use windows 10 64bit, Mobo: Asrock Taichi z370. I did not find much around the web... I hope that there are some hard disk connoisseurs that could provide a more under the radar solution for me. Thanks!

Hi everyone, planning on upgrading my set up with all this - bottom -GPU is my current one - probably upgrading with new series) -storage already owned I am looking for a good long living case with focus on good airflow and preferably also decent sound level. I really was set on the bequiet PureBase 700 OR SilentBase 800 but researched that the airflow isnt very good in those cases. I also dont really care about big RBG or windowed stuff - pure efficency and performance is my focus - if its included though, ill take it. Price range max. 180€ - maybe also upgrading / swapping case fans to sth. better. From what ive heard the Fractal R6 and the Fractal Meshify C are supposed to be very good. Took my information from this post. If you have other recommendations i really appreciate it, if i forgot sth. to mention give me a call! Oh and im located in germany. Cheers! Hello, I am curious if it is possible to get hold of a used server that has minimum 2ghz quad core and 16 GB of RAM. I want to have the possibility to run two Virtual Machines in virtualbox. I'd like to assign half of the ram to each machine, and 250 GB of drive space to each. The machine must be silent enough for living room placement and low power usage. Its nice if it accepts after market parts without freaking out. It will be used mostly for file storage, so don't think it will run with full load. I have 4x 1Tb used SATA disks that I want to use in a raid configuration for file storage. I also have one 1 TB disk for OS space. The total number of disks will be 5, but capacity for 6 disks is nice. I will run ubuntu server edition for a OS. So,what brand and models to look for? My budget is around 400 US$

Hi everyone! So recently I've been wanting to switch my CPU cooler, since the one I'm using currently is some 10€ LC Power cooler, that keeps my CPU at around 75-80 C at load, but is just REALLY loud. This bothers me especially since I've been wanting to buy some open-back headphones because I've heard a lot of good stuff about them. CPU: AMD FX-8350 (AM3+) Case: MS-Tech CA-0300 Raptor NG Any suggestions on a good, silent cooler? I've never used AIO's before and they seem a tad expensive, so Air Coolers would be easier for me but if an AIO is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the Air Cooling options, then I'm willing to give it a shot. Any Advice is welcome!

Greetings everyone. As the title suggests, I am planning to do a quiet/silent gaming PC. After extensive research, I have arrived at the following list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/s6FbRJ Here are my justifications for the list: I chose an aircooler and not a CLC because I read on multiple forums that a big air cooler is usually quieter. And I chose the NH-D15 in particular because of the quiet fans that it comes with and the ease of installation. I chose the Strix Z370-E motherboard for the fan controls implemented in the BIOS. I'm not that good with choosing a motherboard, any other suggestion is welcome. The MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X was praised in many reviews by how quiet it was, and I think that this is due to the beefy heatsink and the two large diameter fans. This is one of the components that I researched the most, because the graphics card is usually the loudest component in a high-end configuration. The Define R6 is known as one of the best noise-insulating cases on the market. I chose the one without a TG side panel for obvious reasons (both sides have noise-dampening foam). Also, the fans that come with the case (Dynamic X2 GP-14) are very quiet, according to this article. Some might think that the PSU is way overkill for this configuration. But I purposely chose a high wattage PSU because that way the fan will not rotate at all (or rotate at a very low speed). The only thing that I'm worried about is the HDD. I don't have much experience with Seagate drives, I only owned a 2TB Barracuda for about a year and a half, and I couldn't even hear that drive, there were other components in my previous system that made more noise. This was my previous configuration: ASRock Z77 Extreme4, Core i5 3470, Thermalright True Spirit 140 BW (rev. A), Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X, 2 x Be Quiet Pure Wings 2 140mm fans (in front), 1 x 140mm stock fan (came with the case), 1 x Noctua NF-S12A top, a Super Flower Golden Green 750W PSU (these are usually found in Europe, Super Flower is the OEM for EVGA; I live in the U.S. now) all inside a Phanteks Enthoo Pro Windowed version (replaced the front 200mm fan with the two Be Quiet fans). I would like to remain in the around $2,000 mark. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Please move if necessary mods. When I switched to Comcast a couple years ago I no longer had a dedicated landline and eventually I settled for Ooma. It generally works well, but regularly it will ring and the person on the other end is silent but they can hear the person using the Ooma. Google wasn't helpful (All I found dealt with all calls being silent). This usually happens when my dad calls from work but it has also happened during calls from someone on a cell phone, so it's not just happening from one caller. I should also mention that it only happens on inbound calls and the issue is immediately solved by calling the person back. Any thoughts on how to fix this issue? I tend to doubt it's a network issue considering other calls work with no issue. In some ways I want to leave VOIP landline solutions behind entirely and use only cell phones.

Hello! I'm planning on building a Linux computer for a new desk set-up, and are looking for some advice on part choice. I haven't been very involved in the PC community for a while now, so I'm not caught up on current hardware. I'm really just looking for a competent, mid-range-ish build to run Linux on. I won't need a dedicated graphics card. Would like the build to have a focus on size and silence. Something mini-ITX (just a clean, attractive case) with light air-cooling or maybe even some passive would be nice. I don't really have a budget set, but it will probably be around a few hundred dollars (maybe $300 to $500?). No need to worry about peripherals either. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

So i was inspired by one on of tech tips videos of linus's personal rig, and figured i can do the same. I would like to keep my computer in the basement for a number of reasons. I need some help planning because i can't find guides on what to buy or how to set this up. Video i watched: Final Deployment of My New PC! - Personal Rig Update 2015 Part 5 (FINALE) My peripheral setup: Wired mouse & keyboard. 1x 4k monitor & 1x 1080p monitor. 5.1 surround sound speakers. gaming Headset. Windows Mixed reality headset (VR headset) Xbox one wireless controller adapter. My system: AMD ryzen 1700x Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 motherboard AMD RX Vega 56 AMD r9 290x (for recording and streaming) Now, i would like to avoid extension cables as much as possible but still have a "no compromise setup". Any input or guidance will be appreciated. P.S i'm ok with drilling holes in my walls or anything along those lines of DIY.

So, i want to keep my pc in the basement but keep my desk on the same spot. I'd rather not use extension cables. Something like thunderbolt hub setup but i have an AMD build. Any ideas how i would accomplish this task?

Hello everyone, The question has been raised plenty of times in the past, but as time goes on, so do products. My gaming setup is in the living room, because I'm 31 and my girlfriend appreciates me being in the same room for most of the evening. The audible clicks produced by my R.A.T. 7 are a constant source of frustration, giving me the evil eye, turning up the TV to high volume, discussions, etc. I've even resorted using my trusty crusty (leaky battery) old Logitech Performance MX Darkfield as a backup. I've spent some time googling silent mice but most highly praised silent mice are not produced or sold anymore. What I'm looking for is a current-gen mouse with a (near) silent left and right mouse button, preferably right-handed and two thumb buttons. Opinions about the quietness are appreciated, but DBa values tell the truth. I've seen youtube video's about modding the clicker in mice but that stuff is just too small for my sausage fingers, and i'd rather not break my R.A.T.7, even though that'd please my girlfriend greatly.

Just moved into an apartment complex with very thin walls. This gives me two challenges, with my new build. 1) I need the pc to be on the smaller side (depth at 40cm or below.) 2) I need the pc to be very quiet (below 25 dB) The place i plan on placing it, limits the depth to 40 cm. It can almost be as wide and tall as needed. I measured the background noise in my apartment at night, and it hangs around 25 dB. So a noise level under that while gaming would be ideal. Im planning on using this method to pick parts. Its a bit frustrating that he doesnt show thermals or benchmarks or anything like that, but is this method of having only the case fans(and gpu) really viable? I dont have a hard price limit. But im looking to use around 1000 USD excluding GPU. I already have a 1070 im planning on using for this build. Im planning on buying the 2gen ryzen chips, with a TDP of 65 w. So something like a 2600 or 2700 non x. Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 I know hes using a be quiet! one in the build, but i like noctua better. But im sure its fine right? Case: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX I should probably get one with sound dampening, if i want it to be that quiet. But it's nice to have nice design aswell. But should this micro atx case provide enough airflow to have only case fans? It would be cool to do something like this, but it probably doesnt have good enough air flow to stay quiet? https://pcpartpicker.com/b/wXCypg

Hi All, Looking for a silent keyboard, UK layout, that isn't mechanical. I've had a shop around but the reviews for a lot of these advertised 'quiet' ones are dubious at best so I'm wondering is anyone has a standard membrane keyboard or knows of one that isn't expensive (below £30?). It's for an educational institution and for exam purposes. Cheers

What is the difference's between these two? Currently i have a Corsair K40 Raptor which is fairly silent. Would there be any beneficial to go for the "Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2 Orange" instead of ?"Corsair Strafe RGB Silent MX"? Will there be a big difference between Orange MX? and Silent MX?

Hello LTT forum! In a few months time I will be moving to a new apartment complex, and I'm planning to change some things in my current build to make it more "silent". I've already decided on PSU, chassi and cooling. However, I would also like the GPU to be as silent as possible during both idle and load scenarios. Do you guys have any recommendations for a silent-ish GPU? I'm going for the 1080 Ti. I am aware that current prices on GPU's are insane, but I do hope they will drop in a few months time, otherwise I'll just have to pay that insane price.. Anyway, best wishes! I'm looking forward to hear from you guys!

Hi guys ! I’m revamping all my workplace as i need to buy a new case and a new cooling system. I’m gonna go with a white NZXT H700i for a black and white build. Regarding the computer side, I'm looking for a couple of parts. I need them as silent as possible : - Silent RBG fans : I don’t mind if they’re 800rpm or so, i plan to stack 3 of them for the exhaust. Would be great if they have white blade. Any advice on this ? - CPU Cooling System : I’m looking for something that gonna fit the build. So far i didin’t find anything that fit. I know that aesthetically AIO would be the best choice, but i’ve never been confident with liquid in a computer (i really find them aesthetically very appealing tho). Any models that i can check ? Last question : Is Tacens still a decent choice when it comes to silent fans ? I had (and still have in my storage) their old Algeo case with Aura Pro fans, wich produced only 9db for 800RPM. Thanks for your time !

My computer is bugging me. It is already quiet, and some people even say that it is silent, but its still annoying me. I decided that the best thing to do is to change my fans. I was looking for a cheap silent exhaust fan and possibly some fans for my AIO (In a pull Config).

Hi, I'm currently looking for really silent 140mm case fans, I mean fans where almost only the airflow itself is audible. In the past, my stock case fans were always fine but the fans of my new case are really loud, you have to set the PWM speed to 20% or better 15% to make them sound acceptable. Of course I've already red a lot of reviews on the internet and created a litle list with some of the suggestions I found. The price isn't a problem, since I'll only need 3 fans but if less money can buy around the same noise/performance I'd appreciate it. So I'd love it if you guys could look at my list here and maybe write which ones you would buy or maybe you even know better ones.

What are the best PSUs for higher end rigs that are also silent. Currently I have an EVGA G2 750 and even in eco mode it's like the loudes component in my system. I want to be able to run my pc at a quite high load during night so I need it under 30 dBA I have seen Corsair hx850i being recommended. Since I have a Dark Base Pro 900 I also took a look at https://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/584 which also has Silent Wings 3 fans which are quite frankly inaudible for the most part. What would you recommend?
