Over 3 weeks ago, my PC that has been built and working fine for almost 3 years now started shutting down and starting up by itself. This started one night after being shut down as I was about to sleep. That day it was used regularly and presented no failures. Last hardware change was on December as I added another SSD for storage. Haven't touched the pc since then. Did no install any program/upsate that night. Shutdowns seem to be completely random as they can happen 15 times a day, just 3 a day or sometimes there is a large period of no shutdowns (24 hours aprox). Windows Event viewer showed and has been showing this couple of error every single time the pc shuts down itself. To our surprise, my pc never turned off nor start up itself from Monday to Thursday. Each day he left the PC on for half of the day, and the other half off. None of ehat I have reported happened. Not sure if it was a hell of a lucky streak or if my house is cursed. Any advice will be helpful. PC Specs: CPU: Ryzen 7 3800x Cooler: Noctua NH-U12A Motherboard: Crosshair VIII Impact x570 GPU: RTX 3070 PSU: Corsair SF600 RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3600 Mhz CL18 Secondary Storage: 1tb Samsung nVME, 500 Gb m.2 OS: Windows 10 BIOS Version: 2702 Hello! I am running into an issue with my new SFF build where immediately after sustained workloads, the PC will either freeze or completely turn off. I wasn't sure what the issues were at first so I tried different software to try to isolate it. I first started having this issue in games. I don't play any heavy titles, just Valorant and League of Legends, so I thought this behavior was very odd. I also had accidentally bent the CPU pins before, but bent them back. The CPU goes into the socket easily still but I know there's still a chance that it isn't working properly. My average temperature is ~35 degrees C idle and ~73 degrees C on load for my CPU and ~38 degrees C idle and ~76 degrees C on load for my GPU. At this point, I'm 60% sure it's the CPU and 40% sure its the PSU but I would like a second, third, fourth... and so on... opinion. Thanks in advanced! Steps Taken: cleared CMOS, ran at stock settings -- > freeze/shutdown heaven benchmark for 2 hours to isolate GPU --> No issues 3D Mark Time Spy benchmark --> No issue 3D Mark Stress test --> 99% and 98.8% --> immediately crashes after. Frozen screen/immediate shutdown Memtest86 --> No issue 0 errors Flashed most recent BIOS --> freezing/shutdown after sustained load Reinstalled windows --> freezing/shutdown after sustained load Rearranged fans in case --> freezing/shutdown after sustained load Unplugged and reseated power cables into motherboard --> freezing/shutdown after sustained load I have a 700W power supply coming in on Sunday so I hope that may fix the issue.

Hello, a month ago my PC started to randomly shut down. At first I thought it was Windows, so I formatted my SSD and reinstalled Windows, but the issue persisted. So I turned to the hardware itself. I read on the internet that the problem could be the PSU as my PC would struggle to even power up. So, I bought a new PSU and the next day I swapped it for the new one, which is a Thermaltake 750w PSU, and when I opened the old one, I found that one of its components was burnt and one its capacitors was bloated. The PC worked perfectly fine for about 3 days until I started having issues again, but this time the computer was just randomly shutting down. Here's what exectly happens: 90% of the time it shuts down, my monitor loses signal and the fans keep spinning. In the other 10%, the screen freezes and I have to restart my PC. I should also mention that whenever it crashes, I have to turn off the power switch because it won't shut down if I press or hold the power button. I've obviously made some testing and troubleshooting myself. First I thought the GPU was the culprit. So I unplugged my RX 580 and swapped it for my old GTX 750 and the same thing happened. Then I unplugged my 5 year old hard drive as I thought it could be faulty, same thing happened. Then I reseated the ram and used contact cleaner to make sure it wasn't the problem. The PC shut down again. Then finally, I got a spare old motherboard I had lying around and moved all components to that mobo. The PC worked perfectly for days, until I decided to test that other mobo again. After I swapped all the components, it ran fine for 4 days and then shut itself down AGAIN. So I unplugged my 5 yo HDD one more time, just so I could rule it out for sure. After that it ran fine for a day and crashed again today. I forgot to mention that when I removed my supposedly faulty mobo from the case, I noticed a slight burn mark underneath the MosFets region and a white dot on each of the BIOS chips and maybe the faulty PSU might have burnt my mobo. So I'm almost sure it's motherboard and if it is, is there any way to swap the mosfets or the BIOS chips? Will I have to buy a new mobo? I really want this to be over.

I have a few problems regarding my PC after I did a motherboardswap, one of them being that it just does not shut down the normal way. Every time I try to shut down the PC the screen goes blank for a few seconds and it looks like a normal shutdown, but then the PC just turns on again. I turn it off by holding the power button but that shouldnt be the only option, right? I have tried everything so far, it might be an error that causes windows to restart instead of shutdown, Any other ideas? So far I've tried: Fast Boot Settings, Restart when crash turned off, going into the windows files and typing things recommended by YouTube. There isnt much left... Im using x570 Aorus Ultra, Ryzen 5 2600, Gskill Aegis 16gb 3000, Gtx1660s

Hi, [This is my first time asking for technical help in a forum. Please excuse my online etiquette ] [Before you stop reading midway, I have sufficient reasons to believe why it is not a hardware issue. I explained the reasons below] The Problem I have been using an Asus X556UB Laptop (i5 6200u, 940mx, 8GB Ram) for the last 5 years. About 2 years ago, I started having random shutdowns & after thorough scrutiny, I figured out it has something to do with the iGPU (Intel HD 520). Laptop runs fine if I have my iGPU disabled/uninstalled in device manager. Laptop instantly shuts down if I enable it (and fails to boot to windows if I have it enabled from safe mode). The problem is that the laptop doesn't have any bios settings to disable iGPU/switch display output to dGPU. Thus, applications which by default use iGPU doesn't run. I also can't change the settings to run "most of those" apps on dGPU as Nvidia control panel says that no display is connected to the dGPU & doesn't show any settings to choose default GPU. The processor itself runs fine. Cooling works fine and gets up to 90 Degrees (C) for the processor. After trying out multiple combinations of drivers, my final setup is: disabled iGPU, uninstalled Intel Thermal Management Drivers (see screenshot below) (the "other devices" showed up after I uninstalled Intel Dynamic Thermal Management Framework & Intel Management Engine Component) & now some games run absolutely fine with the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter + Nvidia 940Mx combo. For eg: I ran NFS Underground 2 on very high settings at native resolution at around 80fps. PCSX2 games also runs fine (Although if I remember correctly it wasn't like this always. NFS Pro Street with the same combo would get 5-8fps, but that could be because I failed to choose dGPU to run the app). What I've tried so far (in no sequential order) (apart from countless google searches regarding the issue) 1. Updated Bios> Downgraded Bios> Updated Bios again 2. Fresh Installation of windows [currently on latest version - December 2020] multiple times. 3. Installed oldest version of drivers from ASUS's website. 4. Installed latest version of drivers from ASUS's website. 5. Installed latest version of drivers from respective component manufacturers' website* 6. Disassembled laptop > checked cooling > repasted CPU & GPU countless times 7. Bought new power adapter (65w) 8. Used intel XTU to underclock CPU + iGPU 9. Ran without battery 10. Maybe more things I don't remember *Latest version of drivers changed quite a few times over the last two years. Tried at least 4 "latest drivers". After two years of missing out on pc gaming (specially during the pandemic), I finally decided that I should get help. Tbh, I only as of posting this thread saw that underground 2 is playable, so that's a relief (now I can play at least some games xD). The Ask I still couldn't figure out what the problem is. Maybe driver issue, maybe partial CPU damage. I don't think it is a cooling issue as I don't think I ever saw temperature go above 90 degrees. Also laptop shuts down even without any load. It'd be a peace of mind if I could get a definite answer/solution to the problem. Thank you! P.S: I'll update the original post with more info as it arises. More info 1. Laptop iGPU used to occasionally work for 10-15 minutes to even hours. Would return to status quo (shutdown) after restarting computer. I couldn't figure out why it'd work, when it worked.

Hello all, I could really really use some help/advice as I am new to the PC community and am on the verge of insanity. I just built a PC a week ago and it has been running perfect since a couple days ago, temperatures were running cool. It started with the blue screen of death with the Stop Code: APC_INDEX_MISMATCH. This would happen randomly, usually when alt tabbing out of games such as Warzone. It progressed and since then has gotten much worse. Yesterday I was playing warzone and my entire system restarted. Usually the reboot is fine, but once I logged in, the system rebooted again and again. It is now to the point where it will run idle in both normal and safe mode, but any applications or system programs I try to run instantly causes a shutdown. I decided to uninstall Warzone since that seemed to be running when reboots happened, but this did not seem to solve anything. I did a little research and performed multiple troubleshooting things. I did a "Clean boot", used sfc /scannow (encountered no issues, but now I cant even fully run that without the system rebooting), tried to run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth and the other commands that follow but the system shutdown, and I ran memtest86 with no error found in the first round of 13 test. I opened the Event Log to see if I could see any errors which I did but the most recent were Critical: Kernal-Power and Error: DistributedCOM 10005. It got to the point where I wanted to just reset windows and start fresh but I can't do that because when it starts reinstalling the PC restarts and fails to reset windows. I have tried reinstalling from the windows installer on a USB stick and the same issue occurs. I decided that today I will try a couple things which could help. 1.) Restore BIOS - Earlier yesterday I switched all of my fans to PWM instead of Auto. This may not be the cause but it would be worth a shot since all of the happened after that change. 2.) Remove power to GPU and connect HDMI to Motherboard - I would like to try to eliminate any graphics card issues. I would update my GPU driver but the PC restarts when trying to do this. 3.) Test new power supply Here are my PC specs just incase it helps... PLEASE SAVE ME. My Asus S45lb is a 4-5 year-old Laptop. Spec intel i3-4010U Nvidia GT 740M 6 GB ram (4gb ddr3 i sdram + 2gb ddr3 sdram SK Hynix 1TB WDC WD10SPZX-00Z10T0 500GB HGST HT545050A7E680 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ i notice that my laptop is running too hot when both cpu and dedicated gpu on a high load and the gpu thermal throttled. Granted it might be the cost of not cleaning and dust built up over those 4 years of usage. So decided to clean my laptop. Before i clean it, i took some thermal and performance test. Using R20 , CPU-Z for cpu, Heaven Imagine for gpu and hwi64 for recording temp. Previously i have upgraded my ram(integrated) from 4gb to 6gb by adding 2gb to the expansion ram slot and adding new hdd using caddy hdd to replace my dvd drive. before doing the cleaning procedure I’m well aware how to do it and make sure i understand what I’m doing by researching on the internet. So i’ve come prepared (so i’ve thought). After opening up the back cover, taking of the necessary screw that hold the cooling assembly and fan and also keep in mind what screw goes where, i’ve come to the part when u need to take of cooling block from gpu and cpu dye. I pull slightly and it wont came of, So i take my time to pull carefully with abit of force and finally it came of! but in my mind, i was a bit worried to take that amount of force to sensitive hardware that could possibly damage the hardware. The thermal paste was dry and the consistency hard like plastic. But after i carefully took bit of time using 99% alcohol (ipa) and cotton buds all of the old thermal paste slowly dissolving away. When i clean the cpu it was easy but when i do the gpu dye it was a different story. the old thermal paste is much harder also not only covering the dye but also couple of the small tiny surface mounted component on gpu. then I proceed to clean the fan and cpu/gpu block. and wiping away any dust from behind the mobo. After cleaning was done i used arctic mx-4 thermal compound to repasted my cpu and gpu with an adequate amount ( long line and a dot) and doing the crisscross pattern to screw that cooling assembly back on its place. Make sure everything was back in place then i closed the back cover. On the initial boot everything was a ok. Then i do the same test. First was 15 min idle temp and it passed that. Cpu-z 15 min it passed that. I took the laptop a chance to cool down to its idle temp before proceeding to gpu test but when heaven benchmark just started it suddenly shutdown. Then i cold boot the laptop and do the heaven benchmark. It does the same thing sudden shutdown. i opened back up my laptop and repasted the gpu and cpu. Then everything went okey again temp was good not even thermal throttling again! after it finish the test i even be able to overclock the gpu and didnt hit 80°c but for lifespan sake and thermal headroom i change that again to its normal clock. But the next day i have the same problem again when cpu on full load and gpu was utilized it suddenly shutdown again! I were on memu android emulator which take half of cpu and gpu performace. Then i open up my laptop again and put it sideways and took a giant fan and to blow into the laptop. Everything is ok even when i did the heaven and cpuz combo temp was fenomenal at only 67°c both cpu and gpu. But once i turn of the fan after 5 sec. It shutdown again! I took the precusion to disable my gpu using device manager and relay on igpu but after a couple hours of usage it sudden shutdown again! And noted that cpu and gpu temp was nominal. Never exceeded the t junction temp on hwi64. But it kept shutdown with no warning! My thoughts ? the problem its obviously caused by overheating then thermal shutdown but I don’t know that the components causes that I need your help! what is the problem ? How can i fix it ?

I'm talking no warning, not windows restarts or updates, no power outage in house, just a random restart, followed by my login screen on windows.. It happened twice today while I was streaming grounded, temps are fine max I saw was 68.9 with averages below 60, voltages are default I believe but never went above 1.4. Power supply? Pushing CPU too hard? Will a CPU do that? I didn't think they would unless they were overheated or throttling. Not sure how to check anything else. I was using a rather demanding cpu preset on OBS, but again nothing was maxed/overheating/throttling, so I don't know. PC is a few years old, but hopefully nothing is dying on me...

Hello, I have been experiencing issues wit my PC recently. My Pc would just gone to the shutdown screen after awhile. I thought It was the PSU l, so I replaced it with a new one just a couple days ago, but the problem's still there. I have also cleaned my PC to make sure It's not a heat problem to no avail. The temperature is around 29 degrees when idle. Could It be the motherboard? I have just replaced the motherboard last December. This problem occured after I updated my graphics driver, I have tried to roll back, but it also didn't work. Here's my specs: MSI A320M A-PRO RYZEN 3 2200G 16 GB RAM 128 GB TEAM ELITE SATA SSD 512 GB ADATA M.2 NVME SSD CORSAIR CX450M 450W PSU Thank you. UPDATE: I'm not sure what happened, but the problem has been solved. I tried to reseat everything one more time and the random shutdowns is now gone, this didn't work last time.

This is going to be rant so bear with me. So I’m dealing with BSoD (Blue screens of death) random freezes and random restarts/shutdowns. My first thoughts were it’s the RAM I had 4 sticks of 8 gb, I’ve tried all kinds of different 2 stick combo’s and I ran Memtest86 mutiple times, and even found some errors. problem fixed right? so I bought new 16gb x2 sticks and put them in and did a memtest86 to be sure they were good, they ran through the first test without an issue, then I noticed on the second run nothing was happening my entire system froze. Now my question is what could it be? CPU? PSU? Motherboard? I got a spare GPU and PSU laying around that I can try. but my gut feeling says it’s the motherboard. ps temps on the system are fine using an arctic freezer 280 AIO specs: ryzen 9 5900x corsair rgb vengence 16gb 3600mhz x2 850watt corsair psu 80gold (got 1000w psu 80gold spare) 570x asus strix gaming E mobo 3080 asus strix gpu

Hey everyone, I’ve got a problem that is driving me insane, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I’ve build my fiancee a PC in November 2021, and at the beginning everything was working fine. However in the past 2-3 months her PC start acting up, in the way where it randomly shuts down while watching Netflix, or writing a word document, browsing on the internet or even when idling. The problem is that is not like a normal shut down, as the Mother board light is still on, ram lights are still on, and the power button is still on. I thought it might gone into sleep of hibernate mode, but nope. Keyboard is off, same the mouse, doesn’t matter what key I press or how long I’d try to make it wake up. The power button light is on but when pressed is not responding nor do anything even if I hold it pressed for, same apply to restart button. The only thing that makes the PC to turn on again is to switch it off from the PSU button and than back on, and then press the power button. Once I’ve done that everything its running normal again until it randomly shuts down again. It doesn’t make any sound or beep, it just simply shuts down. I’ve already disabled hibernate and sleep mode but it makes no difference. The problem is still the same. Here is the list of parts I used in this build. Hi! I've been experiencing a weird and very annoying trouble with my PC. My machine shuts down whenever I load it, doesn't matter if it's a gaming load or a work load (Vray - CPU based rendering). It usually happens after 3 to 4 hours of use. It's often a hard shutdown with the characteristic click coming from the PSU, the pwr led stays on but everything else seems powerless. Sometimes (like 3/10 times) the bios goes back to default settings, but I know the mobo is not the problem as it's brand new. I replaced the first one because of the same problems. In terms of troubleshooting, I stress-tested the ram for hours and the ssd's are healthy as well, there's no trouble there. The mobo can be discarded, i guess. This means that the GPU, CPU or PSU might be the problem. I know CPUs don't fail very often if they are not mistreated (overheating, too much voltage, overclocking) which is why I think that is not the issue here. The fact the the shutdown happends regardless of GPU or CPU load and the loud click leads me to believe that there's a PSU problem. Note: CPU and GPU temps are constantly checked and everything is normal. The only thing that seems a little bit odd is that now CPU clocks under load are a bit too low sometimes. Usually when I was rendering clocks wouldn't go below 3.9, now im seeing 3.7 and even 3.6. I'm relatively new to PC's, soo... I could be wrong. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Well, my problem is probably very obvious, but I can't figure it out. This PC is the first one I've built by myself. It worked fine for about 2 years. Since a while back, my PC shuts down when starting a game. The game launches, but a minute or 2 into the game the whole system just powers off, just like pulling the plug. When I power it back on, it sometimes does the same while loading Windows. If that happens and I restart for the second time, it gives me the Windows recovery screen. Sometimes it does the same even when I'm not gaming. While watching a movie or just doing some web browsing, it suddenly powers down. I think the problem could be the PSU, that maybe it does not provide enough power for my GPU. I've recently updated all of my drivers, so I don't think that is the problem. Also, temperatures are not crazy high. So I hope some of you can help me with troubleshooting or have had similar issues and know the answer. These are the specs of my PC: Asrock B450M Pro 4AMD Ryzen 5 3600AMD Ryzen Stock cooler Corsair Vegence RGB pro 2x8GB MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Super Ventus OC Coolermaster MWE 550 watt 80plus gold Kingston A2000 500GB Seagate SkyHawk 3TB Windows 10 home edition If you would like some more info, please let me know!

When I am turning it on, it is posting bios, I can even enter bios and after posting bios screen it just turns off. I have not seen even a single post about this problem, am I the one who has this kind of problem? Led lights are working and everything, pc is not getting hot, it starts to post like it usually would hut then suddenly shuts off.

My friend's desktop keeps powering off at strange times. It has happened while playing Valorant or Rocket League, no heavy titles. It has also happened when it was just chilling in chrome or watching Hulu. No signs of over heathing or anything else like that. I'm really lost with this one. So while playing valorant randomly my system will just shut off, no bluescreen, no freezing, just one second on, next second turned off. Temps are fine, if I turn it back on it works fine for anywhere between a few minutes and several hours. What's weird is this doesn't happen on my main windows install (I have Windows 10 LTSC 2021 that I use normally & Windows 10 Pro 21H2 for valorant). I ran furmark + Aida64 memory and disk benchmark overnight with no issues (this also puts the cpu under near max load). I ran the memory and disk benchmark because I had issues with the chipset overheating & I thought that is what was causing it to shut off in valorant but it doesn't appear to be the case as I've had it happen with a fan pointed on where the chipset is heatsinked into the chassis & when I check temps in game they are fine (well below the 90s I see on my main install under load). I also tried disabling the fan control program and letting the laptop fans spin up as they normally would (usually I set them to a low speed as they do basically nothing because most of the cooling is handled by the radiator and it's fans). I have no clue what could be causing it & it's so random that it's hard to track down what could be the issue. The only thing I could think of is my CPU is still undervolted but it seems weird that this would be the only time it causes a problem. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to post them Edit: \/ System is in signature \/

Hey, so I was just doing my usual stuff... Editing while listening to YouTube and such and suddenly my PC turns off for no reason and when I try to turn it back on, it won't start back up again. I suspect it might be the PSU that probably just died, I have tested it with different outlets and such but still nothing. What's going on here? P.S. My temps are fine and wasn't doing intense editing either so I don't really know what's the problem here. EDIT: I've swapped my old broken PSU to a new one and it works now...

Hello everyone. I need help. So my display turns off but the computer is still running. I have to turn it off by hitting the switch in the back because the button in front wont work. I specify the specs bellow but my motherboard its a msi b450 gaming pro carbon ac which has 4 red lights and when this happens the cpu light turns on. Full specs are: Mobo: MSI b450 pro carbon ac CPU: Ryzen 7 2700x GPU: Aorus Radeon RX580 PSU: Corsair TX650M 650 Watt 80+ Gold, semimodular RAM: Corsair Vengance LPX 16GB (2x) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14s This issue has happened like 4 times when I’m 3d rendering in 3ds max so I thought the it was the scenes fault but now it happened when playing cities skylines which I don’t think its a very demanding software so now I’m really worried. I recently upgraded to the CPU cooler specified above from the ryzen stock cooler and I believe it was after that that this issue started. At the beginning I thought it was overheating despite the numbers not showing overheating, I uninstalled and reinstalled the cooler and the thermal paste was pretty well applied so I don’t think it was that, I also checked the pins on the CPU and they were fine as well. So i have honestly no idea what’s causing this or how to fix it so if anybody can give advise I would be really appreciate it. So far the only way to get around it is to turn the switch in the back, wait a few seconds and then the computers starts as usual. Thank you in advance.

Hello, I recently got a 3090ti and ever since I put in my pc i had this issue where under load, heavy or light, the GPU would just shut off leaving my pc on without any display. At first i thought it was my PSU's fault for not delivering enough power but after upgrading it to a 1000W one the issue still remains. So is 1000W really not enough for a 3090ti or have i done something wrong with my setup somewhere?

Hi everybody! I have problem with my PC, and I can’t determine why that is happening. Sometime, not every time, when I’m playing RS6 siege and Quake Champions (everything maxed out), my PC turns off and then turns on itself. I tried troubleshooting it, but I still don’t know why that’s happening. I think that maybe power supply is too weak, or motherboard is potato. This is my specification: CPU: i9 10900F GPU: Nvidia RTX 3090 RAM: KINGSTON HyperX FURY RGB 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Motherboard: Asus PRIME B460M-K PSU: ROG-STRIX-750G 750W Case: Fractal Torrent with ARGB fans AIO: Corsair iCUE H170i ELITE LCD Display (I’m using push pull, so I have in total 7x140mm vents and 2x180mm) Regarding the processor, I changed some settings in BIOS so now it can draw 220w of power instead of 65W. Prior RTX 3090 I had RTX 3070 with same processor and settings I didn’t have any problems with PC shutting down. For RAM, XMP is enabled. I tried running FurMark on couple of maximum resolutions, and I was running it for 1hr, with temps of 68C and nothing happen. I tried running CPU stress test (HeavyLoad app) and I was running it for 1hr with CPU temps around 58C, and nothing happened. But as soon as I run one test (for example CPU), same millisecond I click to run graphic test (and reverse) PC turns off. I placed video in attachment of that. Thank you for help in advance! Hello friends, as said in the title, an app seems to prevent shutdown for me. I read alot about MSI Dragon Center preventing shutdown and showing up as this app. I don't have Dragon Center installed on my OS, but I have MSI Center installed. Killing it in the taskmanager does not help. Other threads suggest, that it is a phone connected through bluetooth with the computer. I don't have anything connected to my computer. Is there a way to track, which apps are preventing the shutdown, like a log? Thank you in advance
