PC shuts down while gaming and won't boot for 3-5 minutes
acisheree posted a topic in Power Supplies
hello everyone, i want to ask something about my problem,i upgraded my pc to MSI Mortar Max , Ryzen 5 3600 and FSP Hydro-G 850w Gold PSUand i was using Vega 56 GPU. my previous PSU was Zalman GLX 600w.Problem is, While gaming, PC Shuts down randomly but this situation is rare. some days i am playing without any problem but this morning, i was opened pubg and went for breakfast for 15 minutes, it shut down again and i couldn't boot it for 3 minutes. i switched of PSU's power switch, replaced power cable and other parts but it did not changed anything. After 1-2 Minutes it booted without any problem.CPU is not overclocked and GPU's drivers are up to date and GPU is auto overclocking itself. wattage is around 250-270 watt for GPU and 50-60 watt for CPU.Also, strange sounds coming from my Vega 56. Sounds like coil whine but a bit different from it. i do not know what the problem is can you guys help me please?here is youtube link for sound: https://youtu.be/FEH1S4iQKgo -
Wasn't sure what section to put this in- but... here's my specs: (anything in brackets is something I replaced) HP Z800 workstation board Xeon X5680 [2x Xeon E5520's] GTX 970 (tried my GTX 760 as well) CoolerMaster 212 Evo [2x Coolermaster 212 Evo] 40GB Samsung PC3-10600R- HP and Cisco Certified [16GB Hynix PC3-10600R - HP certified] ADATA SP550 480GB SSD (on PCI RAID controller) 2x2TB Hitachi 7200rpm drives (in mirror) 500GB Seagate Barracuda (7200rpm) 5x140mm case fans 600w ThermalTake Dual 12v rail PSU [650w ThermalTake Single 12v rail] Corsair K95 RGB 3xHPw19b (In game resolution: 4320x900) So as you can see by my specs I have been systematically replacing things hoping that at some point I guess right. I have a quite a bit of experience troubleshooting I must say, and I've never ran into a Gremlin this confusing. I'll start from the top here... I bought a Z800 motherboard on eBay, threw two Xeons on it, drilled my own standoffs into an HPTX case, made a custom 24 pin to 18 pin motherboard power adapter (I have triple checked my pinouts, this is not the issue) and a 10 pin memory power connector (dido). Then I grabbed the PSU (that had always worked) and SSD out of my old rig, threw it all in, booted up, worked fine for months. However, I ran into issues with my SSD. It turns out that HP only "officially" supports "certain" SATA III drives to boot on, and I was experiencing blue screens while I was away from the machine, but never while I was using it. I bought a PCI SATA III RAID controller and it seemed to fix the issue. But I started experiencing a shut down issue every once in a while, completely randomly. Any time this would happen, I could check around in the BIOS logs, event viewer, anywhere... nothing. All it says is something to the effect of 'the previous shutdown was unexpected'. I got out a volt meter and checked the voltages coming off my PSU, my 12v rail was sitting at 8.5 Volts. (How????? XD) So I took the 600w PSU out of my old rig, and the voltages remained around 11.7V. I continued to experience the shutdowns, and the 650w PSU works just fine in my old rig (ASUS P5LD2, Xeon X5470 (4.2GHz), 4x2GB PC2-8500, GTX 760, ADATA SP550 240GB) which consumes more power than my Z800 rig. I then thought perhaps it was an issue with my dual CPU configuration. So I took out my second E5520. It ran fine for a week on one CPU and in the meantime I had ordered my X5680 thinking I had fixed the issue (The 5680 scores better than both 5520's combined, even ignoring single thread advantages). I happily put my X5680 in, and I was fine for a few more days, and boom- shutdown (s p o o k y). I checked in my BIOS and looked at the memory self test on my 16GB kit (I was using slot 3 in each bank, then switched to 3 and 5 when I went down to 1 CPU, since slot 1 has never worked). It seemed fine but as a troubleshooting step I opened up my dad's HP server (DL something with 2xE5504's and 144GB of RAM) and I filled slots 2,3,4,5, and 6. Suddenly slot 2 was erroring out as well. I lightly sanded the connector on the memory and reseated it, no luck. I am currently running off 3,4,5 and 6. Some of my friends invited my to play Minecraft and I gave it a shot (I have Optifine maxed out, and KUDA cinematic shaders) and never experienced a shutdown. I then started playing BF4 and it shut down immediately. The only difference I could think of is Minecraft is OpenGL and all my other games are some flavor of DirectX. But this whole time, my computer has never shut down during rendering in Premiere Pro, DirectX benchmarks in passmark, etc. I somewhat feel like I have it narrowed down to motherboard at this point, and thankfully I am graced with enough spare parts that I can troubleshoot like this without spending more money (XD), but I have been hearing a lot of other people talk about how terrible ThermalTake is. I know I've sent them multiple emails a day for the last couple weeks and haven't gotten so much as a word back... when I try to call them it says either their reps are busy or it's after hours, at noon? Some people talk about PSU's just like mine dying within the first week, catching fire, etc. So all this in mind, what should I try next? Motherboard, power supply, or something else? EDIT: I would like to add that I put my specs into multiple PSU calculator's and only ever saw 450-500w required (>32A 12V if I recall)

Hi guys, my Friends PC restarts itself after I run a GPU stress test (Furmark) or heavy gaming such as DayZ Specs: XFX TS 650W PSU i5 6500 with Hyper 212 EVO Zotac AMP! when i start my pc it will pass the post, and boot up. then when windows is supposed to start it just shuts down (sometimes a windows logo is still visible for a second). this will happen for about 90% of the time when powering on my pc, until one point when it will just start fine after a lot of starting up and down without changing anything. troubleshooting i did: checking cables (i actually replaced a sata cable) checking bios settings (tried to change a few settings, nothing worked out) and when windows actually works my pc just works fine, in fact i am typing this on my pc. i suspect it might actually have something to do with the anniversary update. so i actually recorded it, but i do talk in dutch in the video. but i basically say in the vid what i just said in this text here. my pc specs can be found on my account page.

System Specs Windows 8.1 GTX 970 > 368.81 and 372.70 ( doesn't matter ) 2500k @ 4.5ghz > I have been running this for several years now. OC is not the issue 16gb 1333mhz - ram is mix match but has been stress tested with the CPU to guarantee they are compatible SSD1 - adata SP920 128gb (OS and some programs) SSD2 - Sandisk z400s 256GB (games) HDD WD PURPLE 8TB 5400rpm PSU _ seasonic 1050w 80+gold WHAT I HAVE TRIED and it did NOT help Reseating every component and changing thermal paste ( in progress) Removing soundcard ( increaced the time between shutdowns ) Running without UPS ( no change ) Disconecting the case button (in progress) Turning SIMPLINK on my tv OFF ( in progress) Scanning with windows defender (nothing found) THE PROBLEM I am almost 99% certain the issue is not hardware. Temps are great, stressing the system doesn't cause the issue. It always happens in the middle of nothing usually after 9 or 10 hours of nonstop operation. The problem is that once it happens it stats happening more often (2nd picture). Windows reports it as not properly shutdown. WHAT HAPPENS The computer shutdowns like the power is has been cut via holding the power button AND the system restarts (even though in UEFI I have set it up to stay OFF on powerloss) It does not restart since there is spends a second or two more sitting off then a regular restart I can't reproduce the issue. Since it happens at such huge intervals.

Shut down PC then turn on again causes fans and CPU LED to flicker, looping forever forcing PC to never boot (can't even get to start screen that says press F12 for BIOS). I have found that unplugging the PSU then unplugging the JPWR1 power and plugging it back it, then plugging the PSU back in allows my PC to boot fine again. The shut down issues never goes away. I'm running into an issue where my PC wont stay shut down or sleep. OS is win10. Whenever I shut down the computer or put it to sleep it boots up a few minutes later. The only fix is to actually shut down the computer by holding down the power button. Anyone know what could be causing this? See signature for system specs if it helps.

My computer (specs in sig) wont run the AIDA64 stress test for more than about 2 minutes. This is all on stock speeds. I have tested the ram in memtest, and ive tried different psus, ram and gpus, without luck. About a week ago i was able to run a 12 hour stress test with the oveclocks in my sig, now im back to stock speeds, and im unstable. There are no error messages before or after the system shuts down and restarts. Anyone knows how to solve this?

From time to time, Windows does two things that drive me insane: It shuts down, but the computer itself remains on It gets stuck in the "Shutting down" animation and I have to force-shut down it I have searched for a solution, and I found one that suggested I disable "Fast startup", which I did, to no success. The other one says I went to the Intel page and all it lists and it's fairly new are versions of EMI for Intel NUC or compute sticks. The first one that's for desktop computers is from 2013. Naturally, I'm kinda fearful to apply a driver that's not for a desktop computer. What do you guys advise me to do?

I've restored windows, changed power supplies, ran memcheck for 36 hours, and RMA'd my gpu. I've had this problem for a few months now. Just quit on me while writing a college application and I lost all my work. (shout-out to college applications not using google docs). But, I digress. This is what the error is when I check the event logs. My last guess would be the cpu is overheating because when I start up the computer again, the cpu fan sounds like a jet turbine. But I have no clue why it wouldn't be trying to cool it down before windows shuts itself down. Anyways, Thanks. I really didn't want to bother anyone with this on a forum but it's my last hope. The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. When I play certain games, my computer will just randomly shut off after like half an hour. I don't think it's overheating, because I have SpeedFan open in another monitor while it happens, and my temps are something like 55C CPU and 45C GPU. Recently, I went into Event Viewer, and the error message I get when this happens is Kernel-Power Event ID 41, Task Category 63. When it shuts down, the screen usually cuts out first, then the audio turns into a really rapid brbrbrbbrbrbrbrbrbrbrbbrbrbrbrbrbrbbrbrbrbrbrb noise. The fans all still spin, except my GPU fans. The LED on my case stays on as well. When this happens, I have to use the switch on the back of my PSU to turn it off all the way. It happens in Witcher 2, Rocket League, Red Faction: Guerrilla, and a few others I can't remember right now, but does not happen in Skyrim, Fallout 4, or anything else I play. All parts I have are new and I haven't touched clock speeds AMD A10 7700K with stock cooler AsRock A55M-HD+ 8 Gigs of I think Team Elite DDR3 1600Mhz (1 stick) Gigabyte AMD R9 270X factory overclocked Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 5400RPM HDD Faspeed 120GB SSD (have pretty much nothing on it, just like 2 games that aren't relevant here) EVGA Supernova 750W 80+Bronze Semi-Modular PSU NZXT S340 with stock fans

Hello, Recently I bought new Tomb Raider. I am having problems while playing it - my pc shuts down after some time (about 30 minutes). My pc specs: Intel i5 2400 3,1 ghz; MSI GTX 960 2GB; 8gb Kingston RAM; 500GB HDD; 500W Codegen PSU (about 3-4 years old) and a UPS which is Lestar MD-450e (450VA, 270W). I get a message after booting, that my pc has come into unstable power supply problem and had to shut down for keeping safe the pc and etc. So my question is, is it because my old PSU (it gets hot while playing) or the UPS which gives problem to PSU?

My laptop (HP envy touchsmart j109tx) is not shutting down completely. Whenever I shut it down, it goes to sleep. But I can Restart for 'completely installing updates'. It even works with "Update and Shut down". The only problem is whenever I do shut down (even pressing down Power button) the power light keeps on blinking and pressing on any keys or track pad switches the computer back on. I checked in the Power Management settings only to find out that there are no wrong settings. I even tried upgrading to Windows 10 from 8.1, with no results. It's been a year, I started checking other forums for possible explanations. I think, if I remember correctly, it started after migrating to an SSD from the stock SSHD. I backed up and restored the drive to SSD for migration. I have also started suspecting that it is a hardware issue. Can anyone help me? I have also noticed that I am unable to upgrade BIOS (currently running Insyde F.66) to a new version when HP launched BIOS updates in its website (tried from within Windows 10).

The moment I turn off my PC the monitor turns off but nothing else does! My keyboard, PC, and mouse are are still turned on! I tried to turn it off from my OS and the power button but it was still no use! Whenever I clicked on something whilst it was "Shut down" it would bring me to the login screen like I just logged off!? The only way I turned it off was to shut the power from the power supply. Are there any ideas why this happened and how I can resolve it? My operating system is Windows 10. Thank you

I'm opening this topic for reference to people that encounter this problem, since the fixes I found didn't help me My HTPC: Intel dg31pr (socket LGA775) Intel Q6600 ATI Radeon 5670 (1GB) Kingston 2x2GB ddr2 Samsung 40" smart TV (UN40FH) Problem: System was running fine, but after a restart I got a blank screen (All fans running, including GPU). After a couple of tries the system would work again, but sooner or later the screen wouldn't turn on after a shut down/reboot/sleep. The issue would come and go randomly, sometimes I couldn't turn it on for days and suddenly it worked again. When the system started correctly, it worked flawlessly. Solution: The problem wasn't related to the GPU or the HDMI cable as I thought. Some topics online suggested a faulty PSU, but it wasn't the case either. Turns out I had a partially faulty ram stick that wouldn't let the system start even after a lot of power ups and downs. It took me a lot longer to figure out this was the issue because I thought it was video related, since the system seemed like it was running properly. The randomness of the occurrence misled my troubleshoot (When I tried my main PC's HDMI cable it worked, so I thought that was the issue  ) That's it, I swapped the stick of ram and now that system is running very smoothly, does a decent job as a HTPC, even with a power hungry q6600 under the hood.

This only happened for Unity and Syndicate so far. CPU Temp: ~82° C. CPU Usage seems to be above 90%. Temperature remains around 80 constant.GPU Temp: ~60° C.I don't know what's causing the reboot. I've turned off Fast Startup (Win 10).Is the motherboard heating? If it does, why no shut down for any other games? Power supply? It should be fine, right? Cause the CPU temp was around 82° C for an hour or so. I have to stock cooler for the CPU, and one additional fan only. I assume the motherboard should work fine with the specs mentioned below? Additional Info: CPU is 2 years old, RAM and GPU is a month old. Thermal paste has been recently applied a month ago and the stock cooler is mounted correctly, fan is spinning as well. As far as I've researched, the temp of FX-8320 shouldn't go above 62° C. Temps while playing other games (such as Batman Arkham Knight):GPU Temp: Same as above.CPU Temp: Around ~50° C. For Dragon Age Inquisition, CPU Temp: 83° but no shut down or crash. CPU usage is around 50% and not 100% like AC Games.PC Specs: AMD FX 8320 3.5 GHz.16 GB Hyper X Ram.GTX 960 2GB GDDR5 OC Edition. Hi Guys, I recently got myself a new graphics card, the "MSI NVIDIA GTX 950 Gaming 2 GB GDDR5 128-Bit Twin Frozr V Fan DL-DVI-I/HDMI/DP 3 DX12 Pci-E SI". It works brilliantly for work and everyday tasks, but when it comes to gaming something very strange happens... I'm mainly playing fallout 4, a fantastic game, but every so often, when I'm in game, my PC will just turn off and start rebooting, I have no idea what this could be because of?!? I have downloaded an application to check my temperatures, but I cant see a correlation between a specific temperature and the PC turning off, for example the last time it turned off these were the readings from the sensors, sorry they are hard to read, ive put the temperatures in bold. Hello everyone, I really need some help with my PC. I built it roughly a year and a half ago and last week I started to get a problem. Basically what's happening is when it gets a spike in usage it fails. When it fails I have to remove all power from the PC to get it to turn back on such as pulling the power cable or flipping the switch on the power supply. At first it only started when I would boot up a game(Steam and others). Now it will shut down whenever I do anything that requires a little bit of power(like a non-graphically intensive kongregate game). I have managed to view the event viewer but the only thing it tells me is that it experience an unexpected shut down. I've tried reinstalling the graphics cards drivers and re-seating them. I've also tried to refresh the OS but now I can't get it to finish the refreshing process. I also don't know why this problem is occurring the only Windows update I did about a week ago was some windows defender nonsense. I'll post my spec's below... I think it's a hardware problem I just don't know where or how to start. Thank you for any help! So...My mom's old AIO computer just died after about 4 years of use. A long time ago, a friend of hers told her that one of the most damaging things you could do to a computer is to shut it down and boot it up. As a result, she would routinly leave it on for litterally months at a time. Since it died, I put together a build for her (no hard drive, just a 1tb SSD, I don't know if that makes a difference), and the last few parts are going to arrive tommorow. So...before I present her with this brand new computer, I have to ask... ...Is it safer to leave it on than to shut it down overnight...? Factoring in performance overall and lifespan of the components.

Update 2/16: Site down until further notice Buried halfway down the page of FrozenCPU.com is a news section saying: Of course the site isn't down and you can still add stuff to your cart, but it will not let you checkout. It's a good start? Still confusing to anyone that doesn't know what's going on, but it would at least prompt them to look it up. Update 2/13: Since there's still no official word from FrozenCPU, I think this needs to be done. For each day that passes, FrozenCPU generates $0 and essentially holds everyone's money in limbo. In sort of related news, Primochill looks to open it's own store: Update 2/12: "This is the real deal" I know it must be hard for Mark to come out and make an official statement, but the site should not be online and it should not be accepting new orders. I'm sure there is still a huge population of people unaware and happily placing expensive orders and this is just going to leave an even bigger headache to fix later. If the site is working again within a year, I'll be glad; if not, we can still move on. Source: http://jayztwocents.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1197&start=25#p10711 Update 2/11: Deleted/cached thread, pictures surface The original source link has been deleted, but people are reposting and sharing screenshots of the thread and pictures of a trashed office. There are several mixed responses from "previous employees" who are saying this was normal/expected behavior of the owner and others who are appalled at the working conditions. Still nothing that seems remotely official from FrozenCPU themselves. Current shipments still seem to be stuck at the "Packaging" stage; overnight/next day shipments haven't left. I still recommend holding off on putting in an order until the situation gets sorted out. It's all automated up to the packing phase. I'm going to contact my CC again tomorrow to get a refund if it don't ship out tomorrow, seeing the Pictures, even if it doesnt close it will be a long while before it's back to normal. if anyone want to follow's jayz's "journey" here you go http://jayztwocents.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1197&p=10443#p10443 Update 2/10: Not closing doors? This isn't a very official announcement; I'd like to see some kind of statement from FrozenCPU themselves on their website. Until then, this whole situation is still confusing as heck. I don't think/expect "skeleton crew" means business comes to a complete stop. Sources: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/308324-frozencpu-not-shutting-its-doors-mark-friga-owner-of-frozen-cpu/ thanks @ahhming http://hardocp.com/news/2015/02/10/frozencpu_shutting_its_doors I'm essentially copy/pasting from overclock.net: It looks as though current orders are not shipping and future orders might never be processed. It saddens me because I knew nothing of these internal problems and I had always recommended FrozenCPU as the first place to look for water cooling supplies. Without that knowledge, it seems so sudden to lose their great service and quality products. I don't know of too many other outlets that specialize in water cooling components.
