Alright, so my grandfathers house and my house are on the same property, there is a garage located pretty central between our houses. I know its possible but I need some advice how this would work. I'm thinking of getting our internet connection ran into the garage where I could split the connection between the two of us. From the garage to his house is around 500 feet while its around 200 to mine, so wifi wouldn't be ideal and I would run cat 6 to each house. So how would it work to split the connection so we could each have a wireless access point at our houses. Would we have to put a router in the garage with the ethernet cables ran to extenders? Thanks in advance for any help, i'm a noob when it comes to networking.

I just built my rig and got some o' dat gud w10 runn' I have no ethernet connection. I tried plugging this this new pc to my laptop(w7) and sharing the wifi connection to the local network but it doesn't seem to work. RIP. Now. I rand the drivers on the CDs: the motherboard ones and the graphics card too. NAWTHING, Zer0. I-m pretty sure I need an Ethernet connection but I mean... The only thing that worked was the network one. The graphics card CD installed a MSI KOMBUSTOR 2.5 that when I click on does... Guess what: nothing. At this point I'm about to go out and buy an ethernet cable to go through the whole house. This really is the first time I'm doing this but I was too concerned thinking about the hardware and putting the computer together that I forgot about all this jazz. Imma go grab a few meters of cable and be back. Welp. Thanks for your time.

I have about 8 3TB-4TB external USB hard drives that I would like to ideally appear as one. I also have multiple offices each with a couple computers that I would need to have each computer connected to this central storage to store media. What would be the best way of doing this? I was looking at trying to setup a NAS, but not sure how to do this with external usb hard drives. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to share a problem i recently had with an HP laptop. The problem was in a very unexpected place so if you ever run into it you know where to look. So this client had a laptop with a non-working screen lighting. After poking around with my handy multimeter i discovered that there was no power going to the inverter but there was power on the motherboard's connection to it. So what turned out the problem was, that the pins on the connector had melted, losing contact. They were so small that i needed a magnifying glass to see it, which is exactly why this was such a hard to find issue. Ended up just soldering a wire that replaces the molten link. Hope this information serves good to someone. Will be interested to see what hard-to-find problems you have ran into in your practice.

I am a newb when it comes to linux, so looking for a somewhat easy fix. Yes I am aware Linux and easy don't always work. Currently using Lubuntu Ubuntu 14.04, I am not specifically tied to this specific OS. What I need the computer/server to do is: - Capable of media playback through software such as XBMC - Check - Automatically mount storage drives - Check - Share media from drives through samba - Check - Go to sleep when not in use for certain length of time - Check - Not go to sleep when sharing/streaming media to other computers on network - Thoughts?

Hi ! I have a problem in Windows Server 2012 R2 : I have searched and try everything I know to fix this, but I cannot start NetTcpPortSharing service and therefore I cannot configure Windows Server Essentials Role, among other things. I have theses services not starting : gupdate (Google Update) NetTcpActivator ADWS (keeps restarting (115 times in a few hours)) WseNtfSvc NetTcpPortSharing ServiceProviderRegistry NetPipeActivator A lot of them depend on NetTcpPortSharing service I believe. I've been googling for a day now and haven't found anything. I tried ProcessMonitor but no particular error. The domain is quite new and reinstalling is not an option here. I'd really appreciate help guys I don't know what to do here (for any of these services)! Thank you ! @69lover : ninja'd Source: http://torrentfreak.com/canadian-isps-vpns-now-alert-pirating-customers-150102/ Under the new law Internet providers are required to forward copyright notices they receive from rightsholders to their customers. Providers who do not comply, including VPN services, face damages up to $10,000. Among the most prominent concerns are the so-called settlement schemes where copyright holders ask pirating subscribers to pay a fee. These have become relatively common in the U.S. and are now expected to expand into Canada. The new notice-and-notice system also has a great impact on VPN providers. The new law requires them to identify pirating customers so they can forward the infringement notices. This mandatory data retention is expected to lead to a customer exodus as it makes it impossible for providers to guarantee people’s anonymity, a key feature of any VPN service. Many VPN providers assign shared IP-addresses to their customers, so even if they wanted to there is no option to accurately identify a copyright infringer. For these companies the only option will be to shut down, or move the company outside of Canada.

Now playing on Bit torrent 'politics - performed by developers' News via tech crunch BitTorrent is opening its paygate-based business model to all artists and others who would like to use BitTorrent as a platform to distribute their content. currently only a couple of major artist have decided to jump in on the whole peer to peer music share solution Since Bittorent is up against competitions like amazon music itunes & spotify which pays top rated artist handsomely , Bittorrent has decided that it will give artists 90% of the revenue from its services, Essentially they are giving artists a 90% cut of all sales around a model that features a flexible model: you can take some content for free, get some behind a paywall; or see the content move to paywall after a certain number of visits for example. Taylor Swift sparked debate over the state of music in recent weeks, the value of a stream, the value of a record. The value of art shouldn’t be up for debate. It should be up to artists,” said Matt Mason, chief content officer for BitTorrent Other sales and streaming platforms have come under attack for failing to disclose the deals they’ve made with labels. While Spotify has claimed to pay 70% of their revenue to rightsholders, public statements by artists, including Taylor Swift indicate that little of that money is actually making it back to the people making the songs Artist who are new to this needs to contact bittorent via given link & Applying is pretty straightforward afterwards New artists will be asked to provide contact details, as well as some basic information about the project they’d like to publish, and that’s all.they are set to create a bundle & released or published via bittorrent servers Kewl news, really profitable for new & emerging artist that don't need to rely on topr 3 recording industry to provide them with a quarter of their paycheck to get put on mainstream What are your thoughts on this? post your rants & troll feature down below,,, Source: http://techcrunch.com/2014/11/17/bittorrent-bundles-paygate/

S-tunes.. The company launched a new pricing plan on Monday that will allow groups of people to save some cash by creating a joint subscription under one bill. The plan will have all the benefits of Spotify Premium, including no ads and offline playlists. Under the plan, the cost of the first person added to the account will still be $9.99 per month & the same as normal Spotify Premium, but every additional person will cost 50 percent of that. You can add up to five people to one joint account, so instead of paying $50 for five subscriptions, you can now team up to get the cost below $30. Your account. Your music. With Spotify Family, everyone gets their very own account. Enjoy separate playlists and recommendations and play your music whenever you like. Premium for everyone. Everyone on the plan gets the full Spotify Premium experience. Listen offline. Play any song, anytime, on any device. No restrictions. No ads. The more the merrier. Having a family can be expensive. But music doesn’t have to be. With Spotify Family, you can add up to four family members to your account, and each additional user gets 50% off Spotify Premium. No tantrums. No more fighting over what to listen to, and no more interruptions when someone else logs in and starts playing. The company has said it already has more than 10 million people paying for a subscription, and 40 million users overall. The discounts, made with the blessings of the music labels, could help boost those numbers Unlike other streaming services, like Netflix and HBO Go, Spotify has made it next to impossible to secretly split a paid account with a friend, since the service doesn't allow premium members to stream music on multiple devices at the same time. With the family plan, the only thing that's shared is the bill: Every user will have his or her own account, complete with separate playlists and curated recommendations. The blog post states that the service will roll out globally over the upcoming weeks. Not Just Spotify, Apple also thinks streaming music should cost less. Spotify agrees Apple has been pushing the labels for more extensive price cuts. It wants to relaunch the Beats music subscription which it brought, next year, and industry scuttlebutt is that it’s trying to get the price cut in half, to $5 a month Apple’s best iTunes buyers spend about $60 a year on downloaded music — $5 a month. So if subscription services dropped that low, any download buyers that switched over to the streaming model would generate just as much revenue for the music labels. And, more important, the market of potential subscribers would get much larger Bonus: https://press.spotify.com/us/2014/10/20/introducing-spotify-family-now-the-whole-band-can-play/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/20/spotify-family-plan_n_6014606.html Post your thoughts & rants down below... Silly question. I want to just check that this will work: I live in a large bungalow so with my router in the centre of my house the network doesn't reach either end of the house. I want to move my router closer to one end and run a powerline adapter to my PC at the other end of the house. I then want to share the powerline ethernet network via my WiFi adapter so that my phone and other devices have WiFi when I'm at my PC. Will this work? Or should I invest in a 2nd router. Note: I'm currently using WiFi for my PC but I want to upgrade to powerline for gaming.

I got this idea that we could share our awesome Battlefield moments (it can be from any game of the franchise). When I say awesome moments it can be anyting from an epic win you really fought hard for, or maybe you got a increadible K/D or just a fun and epic moment. Feel free to post any screenshot, video klipp or just telling us about it I got this idea when I got this K/D from a Large Conquest round today: I know it isn't the best and most awesome thing but that's why I wanted to know what some fellow Linus users have I am Kimpazz by the way.

I'm a senior at a high school in Hawaii, and for my Senior Project I've been contracted for a business class to create a webspace where students can create an "online store" for their makeshift businesses. I have already tried to use a linux web server, but there were many issues with that and me and my tech coordinator have settled on Mountain Lion Server. We've thought about using Apple's wikis as the space for this project, but I want to know if anyone out there knows of a better option. My tech has also suggested Wordpress. Any ideas?

Hi guys, So I am managing a Windows 2008 Server (not R2). On it, I am sharing a folder. Under advanced sharing, the permissions are given to a specific group on the Domain Controller. On the Domain Controller, a user is in this group. However, this user does not have permission to view or edit this share. Even though they should. The only way they can connect to the share and view/edit it, is if the group Authenticated Users is added to the permissions of the Share. This, however, gives all users access to the share. For security reasons, this is bad. Obviously. I tried adding the user directly to the permissions list, which didn't allow them to view/edit the share either. I tried that because I have a similar (but not the same issue) where a different user is a part of a different group. And all users in that group have access to the share but except for that user. And the only way to give that user permissions is by directly adding them to the permissions list. Those are two different problems, but their root is the same. Sharing permissions isn't working right between the Shares and the Domain Controller. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Vitalius

Hello everyone I have a question, but prior to it you should all get some input data. Currently my internet connection is via USB modem with SIM card in it (that is 3G network with 20GB limit per month). Only one PC is accessing internet, so it's fine, or at least it used to be - I'm getting a smartphone, and I want wi-fi all around the house. Before you ask: No, there's no option I can get regular, wired internet connection to my house. There just isn't. I was thinking, that i could plug my existing setup to some wireless router via RJ-45, enable 802.11 n, and route all wireless traffic back to main PC, to USB modem. Will this work? Could I make it cleaner? I mean there are some routers that work with 3G networks, right? Could I just get the damn SIM into router, so it can access the interwebz directly from there? That way wi-fi would work all the time, not only when Main PC is on. Also, if router has a USB port, could i plug my modem in there? Or my external HDD and make something like NAS? I'm asking, because I don't have a router yet, and I want some of my questions answered before I spend any money. Every suggestion is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Valve has finally decided to allow game sharing to close friends and family, starting in mid-September in beta. You can apply for the beta at this link: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/familysharing Only one thousand Steam account will be picked for the beta. You can share to up to 10 devices. Each game can only be played on one device, at a time. No, you can't choose what games you will share, it only allows you to share your full library! What do you think of this guys? Discuss.

In some recent update of Steam, three lines of code hints at a "Shared game library" Source: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125168-Rumor-Game-Sharing-Coming-To-Steam I think this is a response to the Xbones family sharing, and i think would be great to have!

I have just bought a Netgear N300 router. On the box it says - wireless speed up to 300 Mbps. :) I have connected 2 laptops to the router through WiFi. Both of them running windows. I have turned on file sharing on both. Here is the problem: when I copy files from one laptop to other the speed is too low (just around 3 MB/s or 24 Mbps). :( Is this normal? My friend has a N150 series router and I get the same speed using that. isn't N300 router supposed to be faster!

20,066,192 That is the total amount of URL's the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has requested to be removed from google's search results since the 26th of may 2011 when Google started taking down URL's The median amount of URL's per week is currently listed as 90,196. But if you take a quick look at the graph below you will see that this number does not even come close the the amount of links that have being reported in the 21 weeks of 2013 we have had so far. Funny side note, whilst the RIAA is putting in a lot of effort into remove all the links to music sharing sites, Google is kind enough to tell everyone where to go by listing the domains that have the most take down requests. But don't go there guys, piracy is bad m'kay ;) Source: http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/removals/copyright/reporters/1594/Recording-Industry-Association-of-America-Inc/?hl=en_GB Disclaimer: I've read the LTT CoC and i think this post is oke, but mods please correct me if im wrong.
