Hello, the LTT community! So I have my server and it was sitting at around 3GB when I did the data transfer, however now my httpd process (apache) will not start and when I logged into VMware I found that all 100GB of storage was used! Is this a hardware (ie: my drives are failing (although if it was this, I would have seen an error from iDRAC), the drives are overlapping data and a reboot can solve it, etc.) or is this software (ie: virus, DDoS, etc.) My host provider kicked me off the network due to strange amounts of usage from my account, so I am wondering how long this has been going on. Please help. I leave for Norway in two days and NEED this server operational. Sincerely, Joseph

I'm going on a long trip to Spain soon and I want to keep in touch with the data on my PC at home. How can I globalize the data on all of my hard drives so that I can access it at any time from my laptop on a different network? Sorry if it's a basic question!

Hi everyone, I'm trying to build a server that can run 3 VMs (terminal, file, database) for a small business (12-17 users). I think I have a ballpark idea for specs, but I'm looking for recommendations to be sure. Does anyone have experience with office set-ups?

Hey guys. I was over at my aunts place on Sunday for Easter (Greek Orthodox, Χριστος Ανεστη!) and my cousin was there. He hasn't lived there for a long time but he still uses his room and he mentioned getting rid of a whole bunch of stuff including "the old server case". I knew exactly what he was talking about and asked him how much he wanted. Turns out he didn't want any money for it so I took it home. Now that I have the case I'm thinking of building a server for file/program backup. Anyway. This case has no manufacturers markings on it. It says "made it China" on a sticker at the back and it has 2 80mm fans at the rear of the case that are made by Sunon. It has 4 wheels and holes for what I'm guessing are for rubber feet. The power button, reset and alarm buttons are all locked behind the front bezel. The whole drive system is built on rails that are wider than standard 5.25" bays so you can put pretty much whatever you want. The case is a nice thick weighty steel throughout with very few plastics. A hint at how old this case is. The left panel (when looking straight at the case) has a "general layout diagram" of an ASUS P4C800 which is what my cousin must have put in the case. Anyway, I just wanted to know if someone recognizes this case. P.S Ignore the salt

I have 2 Emachines T3990s, with fresh installs of Ubuntu server, and Im wondering what kinds of programs you all think would be best for said machines. Current Stats: CPU: Intel Celeron D 335 (1 Core at 2.8 Ghz) RAM: 2GB DDR 333Mhz Disk: WD Green (Runs at SATA 1 Dye to mobo) Ive used them for minecraft servers, but they cap out at around 5 players. CPU is the biggest limiter

Good afternoon, Ok, let me fill you in with some background info... I have a house in the US (Texas) with some freeNAS boxes, and a media server. This house also contains an offsite business backup box. This house has a really good internet setup with a 1000mbit up and down link. I know, totally insane and overkill, and I am serious. I also have a house in Bermuda, this is where I spend most of my time, once again, this house has a NAS box and my computers I use on a daily basis. This house has an internet link of 25 down, 5 up. These two networks are connected through open VPN. I have other users accessing through the VPN, 1 in Switzerland, 1 in Baltimore. I generally am just using word docs but the occasional picture or two. I am considering adding a file server. 95% of all the usage (which isnt very much, light load, 2-3hrs a day) is in Bermuda. Here are my two options: Add a file server in the US with the gigabit link and have a 'relatively' slow access from my primary location in Bermuda Add a file server in the US and in Bermuda. Use the Bermuda when in Bermuda and other users will access through US box. Then perform a nightly sync. Which is a better idea? Please ask questions if required.

Recently, I have gotten a bunch of old PCs from my family that I have started repurposing. Two of these units are old Emachines T3990s from 2004, with a Celeron D 335 processor in each, running Ubuntu Server 14.04LTS to minimize wasted resources. I have begun one to be used as a low-level minecraft server, and was looking to host teamspeak on the other. The only issue is that, as an AT&T customer in the US, I only get one external IP address to use, and I have that connected to my minecraft box, using both ports 25565 and 22 for the server and SSH respectively. Is there any way I can configure two server boxes to use the same IP address via bridging? I was going to give the Teamspeak server connectivity by using a short ethernet cable to my minecraft box, since teamspeak doesnt need great speed and since the minecraft box is connected to the network using a WiFi adapter. (Internet > Wifi > MC Server > Ethernet > Teamspeak)

Hey all, I'm trying to install Dell Openmanage software on my Dell R510 so I can manage it easier. However, the download from the dell website doesn't have all the custom setup options like all the tutorials show. It just has the "Server Administrator Web Server" and none of the storage and command line stuff. Can't find information anywhere on how this stuff is supposed to install or where to get it - everything just assumes you already have it. Or do I need to have an official Openmanage disk from Dell and it isn't online? Any help from those more experienced? Thanks in advance.

Hello, About a month or 2 ago I built my Pc system, it has been working fine but for some games when I try to connect to multilayer servers It doesn't show up any servers or It just straight up wont connect. For one of the games I play called Heroes and Generals it gave me an notification saying that I was unable to ping to game servers. I am also currently experiencing an issue with my ram but I don't think that it should have anything to do with it. Does anyone have a solution? Lucas,

good day sirs! im having ridiculous ping in BF4 servers. Like 3,000,000+ ms and letting me enter a server. I tried repairing the game, restarted my router and PC, also turned of my firewall. Nothing seemed to work. All other devices that are connected through wifi are working fine and with 0 issues. My PC is the only one connected to the router by cable. I tested my ping it tested fine http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5147335193 but when ran cmd and check my ping through google it showed that time=200ms - 500ms but when I run other online games like BO3, I play it with no problems with 100-150 ms. checked my WLAN drivers and they were up to date. thanks in advance people!

I am trying to buy a PC that can run a few dedicated games servers such as Team Fortress, Garry's Mod, etc. I am also looking to host some websites off it. I recently saw one of Linus's videos, I am looking for something in that price range, no more than $300 AUD (Australian Dollars) and I don't mind buying something off Ebay that is prebuilt, used or buying some used parts and putting it together myself. As long as it can run a few dedicated servers and some websites smoothly, I'll be happy, Can anyone recommend anything? Thanks

I am planing to buy black ops 3 for my Ps3 on black friday, I know the graphics aren't that appealing and there is no campaign mode but are there any issues with the game like servers not connecting, low amount of players, etc?

How are the multiplayer servers on Black Ops 3 on the PS3?

TIL that the names of Linus' servers are based on communities and features around Langley, British Columbia. Fraser is named after the Fraser River that runs through the Lower Mainland of BC. Whonnock and Ruskin are small communities just east of Langley and north of the aforementioned river. Newton is named after the Newton region of the city of Surrey (at least I think so). Am I missing any?

Hey everyone, I've started building a homelab and http://www.baddogservers.com/ has been a huge help to me, providing me with cheap servers and rails. If anyone's interested in enterprise grade gear, they've got some older rackmount stuff for stupid cheap, all the way up to some LGA1366 stuff that you can put some X5560's in etc. At the moment they've got a deal going on where you can get 20% off your total store purchase with the code ian20off, This means you can get stuff like a Dell R710 for $525, or a PowerEdge with dual processors for $124! Like stated before, this stuff is older but is great practice if you want to get into sysadmin stuff later on in life. Rails are super cheap at only $15 a pop, and shipping is free in the US if you're buying anything worth buying. Also, it looks like if you create an account you get 5% off the total store order, which sure wasn't around when I was ordering from them. Thanks, enjoy the servers. TL;DR 20% off total store order at http://www.baddogservers.com/ with code ian20off -Shuckle

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone on here could help me with this project. The basics of it is that I want to convert my gaming pc into a local file server, a NAS, so that I can keep large files such as movies and an entire music library on there and access it when I want to. Ideally It would sit in a room in the flat somewhere remote-ish, and I could (for example) connect my mac to the tv and connect to the NAS in order to play any movie I have downloaded and kept in the NAS. I saw Linus' Gaming PC/NAS Guide, however, my CPU does not support virtualisation. I would like to keep the PC working as a gaming PC so that I can run high intensity tasks on it (3D modelling/Video editting/Games). I know that running both the gaming pc and the NAS at the same time is not possible without virtualisation, however, I was hoping that you guys could suggest a way that I could switch between the two quickly. Perhaps this could be done by setting an internal HDD or SSD to be accessible by everyone on the network, but I worry that this would not achieve the high speeds that would be ideal. I am open to any suggestions and even some that require spending some money on something like a network card, however, I do not want to be spending lots of money replacing my CPU with something that allows virtualisation. Thanks

So some servers going offline today (mainly EA) and Phantom squad says that there taking crap down. What do you think? Connection? Honestly though i think that phantom squad is a fake trying to get more followers and not taking down servers when they said they were going to.
