  1. Hey all. I recently found photos of a old PC build I made 7 or 8 years ago using a Behringer Amp and converting it into a PC case. I no longer have it due to a house move and not having space to keep it, which was a shame as it was a good looking build IMO. USed a 200mm fan in place of the speaker at the front and used a sheet of aluminium to create a new top plate to fit the PSU. Thought it would be cool to post up hear and see what people think. I originally used this for my bass which I'd owned since i was 16. It was damaged by some old house mates during a huge fight at 3am, including the bass guitar. I was gonna throw it out, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. A few months later I lost my job and had to sell a lot of stuff to make rent, including my gaming PC at the time. I had some old spare PC parts to use in the meantime, but lacked a case. I then found this amp and thought "This would make for an aweome looking retro build", so I ripped out the old guts of the amp and went from there. I can't remember the parts i used. It had an old core duo I think and a old ATI HD something. Later I switched out the parts to an i5 second gen and a GTX 750 ti so I could play fallout 4. Shame I got rid of it in the end, but such is life.
  2. Start a new adventure ..... ahead with the sponsors .. cooling
  3. So I decided that rather than have a bunch of old hardware kicking around, I should put it to use. I've been toying with the idea of a NAS for my wife and I to use. Now was the time. -The hardware - CPU - xeon e5 2650 RAM - 16gb (2x8gb) DDR3 Samsung ecc something or other. MoBo - The most generic Chinese MATX (literally all it says for identification is E5 VER 3.3A) PSU - 1u FSP 270w GPU - Kinology gtx750 (ever hear of this brand? Not I) Case - some wood and hot glue. Current drive is a temporary 2.5" Seagate 500gb to validate that everything is working. This will be replaced by likely 2 to 4 5tb 2.5" drives using unraid. The GPU cutout is off by about 5mm, but I couldn't be assed to recut it. I am waiting on a short power extension so I can actually plug it in without running the lead through the IO cutout. I am also tossing about the idea of adding a 120mm fan to the front, but it runs pretty cool as is. It sits at 75w currently. I would really like to swap out the gpu to something that uses less (I really don't need a gpu but I can't boot without it) and I'd like a lower power cpu, but that would mean a board swap, and the point of this build was to use what I had kicking around. To pretty it up, I'll be wrapping it in grey wallpaper that I have lying about. Jank, but it does the trick. The total size of the build is 9.7L
  4. Hi guys. This mod, which is my first mod, i am doing because i love modding and i decided to do my own mod. This mod is made for my new PC to fit in because i my old case can't fit my new GPU and I want to have something unique. The Mod will be ROG themed. I will post my works here and ask some questions as i am a newcomer in modding.
  5. First post. Happy to be here. Thought I'd share our latest creation here on LTT. This is a scratch built case comprised of acrylic. The front and rear of the case is a distro plate as well as the motherboard panel is a full reservior. Below are the parts used in the build. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did creating it. 6. About the project For "falqoon one" I wanted to do an open chassis build. Making every hardware part of the build completely visible. I'm a hardware enthusiast, so I like to really like to look at it. I've designed the base of the build, and the rest will take shape while building. The downside of this, that everything of the build needs to be very tidy! While everything is visible, the cables, or at least the middle section of every cable will be hidden inside the 3cm thick frame. I also designed this build not specifically for this hardware. Meaning, that I can swap the motherboard, gpu etc without effecting the cable routing etc for these parts. The motherboard will have 1cm standoffs, so all the motherboard cables will go underneath so routing will be always as tidy as possible. It's not my idea to make Christmas out of it, so it will not be a fully RGB build. In the end it may have some lighting, but only to complement the build. Hardware Current hardware list for this build: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 AMD Radeon 5700 ASRock B450M Pro4 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Kingston A2000 1TB Corsair AX860i pci-e 3.0 x16 riser cable * red is still needed/wanted Water cooling Current water cooling list for this build: Corsair SP 120 fans (4x) Alphacool NexXxos ST30 240 radiator (2x) Alphacool NexXxos XP cpu waterblock Alphacool compression fittings Alphacool VPP655T pump AMD Radeon 5700 waterblock Reservoir (tube / pump top combi) Flex tubing Hard tubing Hard tubing fittings Other fans * red is still needed/wanted Materials The most of the build will consist of aluminium. I will use aluminium square tubes for the frame, and aluminium sheets for the motherboard tray / back. Besides aluminium, a friend of mine has made his 3D printer available to me. This means that I will try to design some cool 3d printed parts as well, and try to make them look factory made by sanding them down and spray painting them. Sponsors Currently, this build is not sponsored yet, but I'm definitely open for a partnership. Photography As my biggest hobby is Photography, it will play a big role in this build as well. However, product photography is new to me, my usual shots are about motorsport and landscape. I'll try to do my best for you guys! The camera and lenses that i will use for this build is as following: Nikon D500 Tokina 11-20mm 2.8 Nikon 50mm 1.8 D Studio At the end of the build (or maybe even in between) I will do the final shoot in the studio. While I don't have a studio, I will turn my living room upside down, set up the studio lights etc.

  8. Here is my scratch build. Also check out this 3D design tool I made for laying out custom scratch builds. PC Design Foundry You can select all sorts of components and move them around. You can plan out hard line water cooling and can download files as X3D. I wanted a medium tower size with good air flow bottom to top. I also wanted to have a distributor plate on the front so there are no vent openings to keep it quiet. I moved the power supply to the front of the enclosure and used an SFX form factor to get a good fit with the pump. Then I was able to fit two 360 rads along the whole length of the enclosure. I used a Micro ATX motherboard because I was not going to need 7 PCI slots. Looking back on the build I wish I had got a motherboard with built in RGB LED headers as I ended up having to get separate cables with built in controllers for the LED's in the Fans. I also should change the connection from the pump to the front distributor plate to be a soft line tube at some point to minimise the bump vibration noise. CPU. Intel i7 9700k GPU Palit RTX 2080Ti Samsung 970 EVO Polaris 500GB M.2 Kingston HyperX Predator RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz Asus ROG Strix Z370-G Gaming (Wi-Fi AC) Micro-ATX 800W Silverstone Strider SFX Power Supply 2 x 360 Alphacool NexXxoS XT45 Radiators 6x EK Vardar 120 mm fans. I really wanted to have both the radiators and pump mount directly to the distributor plate with adjustable fittings instead of any additional hard line tubing. Make some custom O rings. The top fans are exhaust fans so I had to make a trim part to cover the rear labels. Powder coated. I used an outside supplier for this. Hand sand a brushed aluminum finish on the corner extrusions. I tried using a sander but it gouged the metal too much. Bottom fans are intake. A bit of a shame as you cant see the logos. Build some custom cables. Since the power supply is up front I needed some really short ones. Also sleved the pump cables. Making some custom PCI power cables. Make some hard line tubing. PET 16 mm Machine a carbon fiber side panel and top fan trim. Machined in a water bath. First boot.
  9. Hello, Its time again for a new build and this time I am going to use my favorite material, wood! After lots of planning I decided it was going to be another ITX build that would still fit at least one 240mm radiator and long graphics cards if thats what I choose to go with. The plan is to use closed watercooling loops for both CPU and GPU to make future upgrades easier. Ive seen quite a few wood builds over the years but nothing that really felt like me so this will be my version, should also be quite obvious what case I was inspired by Huge thanks to bequiet! and Asrock for helping out with the hardware for this build! And here are a few 3D renders
  10. Hi all, I'm planning building a case from scratch. I won't go into the details yet, but I kinda hit an obstacle in the planning phase. I'll be using 20x20x2mm aluminum L-shaped profiles for the skeleton. I'm trying to figure out a way, to connect 3 pieces in corners (like front, side and vertical) in a way that all 3 will be flush with each other. I won't be welding or gluing, I planned on using rivets and screws to put everything together. My first idea was to cut 45 degree angles on all sides and use some sort of additional connecting piece, but I couldn't find one that would cover all 3 dimensions. All retail cases I checked, are using some sort of bending to adjust the frame ends, but I don't really see myself replicating that... Any suggestions?
  11. Hey guys, as the title says I decided that I want something better then gtx1060 performance and its time for a new build. I'm not up to date with all new hardware so I would need some help from you. The budget would be 2200 Euro (i have some 200-300€ flexibility if needed). I mostly play ARK survival evolved, Atlas (I know, I have fetish called early access and unoptimized games) and CoD Black ops 4. In that budget, I need to squeeze PC and monitor. Some pointers: -no need for big storage, I have plenty of ssds -it would be nice to have NVMe for OS but not crucial if the cost of it would be better to spend on CPU or GPU -don't care much about aesthetics and RGB stuff -case has to have space for at least 3 hard drives and it would be nice if there are some easy to access dust filters - for the monitor, I'm only sure it has to be at least 27 inches, don't know what would be better 4k or higher refresh rate and what fits in budget I would like to purchase everything from this site https://www.mindfactory.de/, if you have a better Germany based one-stop site fell free to share Thanks for any input
  12. Hi all. I'm committing to an idea that I've had for a long long time: building a gaming PC inside a vintage Millennium Falcon toy. I'm calling the project "The Kessel Run" for very nerdy reasons: Here's the toy as it arrived at my place (note: that's the guy who I got it from, not me if you were interested). It's not mint and it's not the original 1977 model... all good things considering what I'm gonna do to this sucker's vintage toy status. The plan is to not only fit a computer in it, but to wall mount it on a flying mount like those used for TVs. For that reason, I'm going to be building a metal skeleton into the toy first, then using that skeleton to mount the PC to. That way, 30ish year old plastic isn't responsible for the safety of hundreds of dollars of tech. Of course, before I can even start adding a skeleton to the interior of this thing, I have to make as much room inside it as possible. Let's open her up: The interior space is pretty ok, but considering that I'm fitting square pegs in a round hole here, mini ITX is gonna have to be the way to go. Height is about 4.25" (108mm) at the center, and about half that at the edges of the disc area. Time to do some preliminary Dremel work! Oh yeah. Now it's practically roomy in there. Room for like, all the computers. I know this is a pretty cursory beginning to the build log, but I wanted to show off the concept. Let me know what aspect of the build you'd like to hear about next and I'll oblige. I'm pretty stoked about my concept for the metal skeleton though. I might cover that soonish.
  13. I'm building another small form factor PC, this time in a 4.2 liter case that can fit a short GPU. This case was 3D printed by a third party supplier, using Markforged One printer and Onyx filament. This filament is more expensive than most FDM filament, but it's also a bit tougher than ABS plastic with some more flex to the material. The motherboard tray is in two parts due to print area limits of the printer. Not sure yet whether to stick with that or use acrylic for the tray. Top and side vented panels will be made of acrylic. Full album: https://imgur.com/a/70Ple3U You can see that the top piece of the motherboard tray is still missing. Once I get this piece in the right dimensions I could add all the main components to the case. Afterwards, I can get the side panels made and finish the build. Here are the specs of the case: Material: Onyx (vinyl with carbon fiber) and 3mm acrylic Dimensions: 199mm x 200mm x 105mm (4.18L) Motherboard: Mini ITX GPU: max length 175mm, dual slot SSD support: m.2 plus 1x 2.5" (on the bottom) CPU cooler: max height 39mm PSU: Internal DC-DC only, or Meanwell 200w
  14. Hello people! I am a manufacturing engineer who has worked for different industries over the years, oil and gas, automotive and now aerospace. Over the past year or so I decided to design my own case and this is the result. I initially set myself a couple of goals: - Wood must be part of the design; - Cylindrical shape; - Full support for watercooling (and full lengths GPUs); - Relatively compact. Personally I think I have ticked all of the boxes above and this thread's purpose is to share the design with you guys to get general feedback and receive suggestions for potential improvements. A keen eye would be able to identify which component goes where. If not, here are some rendering which may help you visualize it better. Initially the project was personal, as a hobby. One day I mentioned this idea to a couple of (rather nerdy) friends and they were pleasantly surprised. One was not particularly keen on the wood design and together we came up with a 100% aluminium alternative. At this moment in time I have ~10 friends who would like to have purchase off me this case. Then someone mentioned that a crowdfunded campaign could help drive the cost per unit down and give the possibility to other people to possess such item. Why not, I thought. So here we are. You may have some questions to ask and I am more than happy to answer them. I have two for you: 1. What feedback can you provide to the design? 2. Would you be interested in this case if it launches on Kickstarter?

  16. This is my first custom mod so it isn't going to be perfect. Here we go.... I got a desk from ikea a while back my pc sat under it and there was a mass of cables and not much room. I kept looking at the shelves I have triple monitors so both are partially blocked so I decided to build my pc in to it
  17. Hello there Random Stranger, Welcome to my world, well.. now that I got that out of my system, welcome to my new project. My father wanted a new PC and I, as the techsavy guy in our family, offered to build him one. And as a special treat...decided to build him a custom case...just because i can. Because i know that my father is a little bit old fashioned i decided to build him a retro themed case. Inspiration was drawn from old radios and tv's. The two main materials would be copper and wood, dark wood since wood tends to darken over time. and it looks nice with copper. The next premise was: it should be located on the desk to make it easily accesible...wich ties in with the first: should look nice since it had to be placed on the desk. further requirements: DVD Drive (so annoying) Further Hardwware isnt much to mention since he gave me a pretty tight budget... so i went with a Pentium G4600 2C/4T MSI B250I Pro 8 GB DDR4 Value RAM (holy fuck that shit got expensive) some old Nvidia GT i still had (thanks to crypto that went through the roof right at the start of this build) bequiet PSU some DVD drive so i got to work and started to visualise what i had in mind. Here is a first peek using SketchUp (my fathers work area) where its black there should be copper... Those "renderings" convinced my father and i went to work. Sadly there aren't many pictures as some got lost...don't know why though after a couple of router passes i had all the 45 degree angles kinda right... that was one pain in the back to do those...especially with an unprecise routerbit. yeah.,...i made that picture with my smartphone instead of the DSLR...cant believe i did that test fitting and adjustments and yeah...its not copper...as it turns out i was too ambitious about that...couldn't do it myself as i dont have neither the tools nor the skills to do so. But i found a company which specializes in cutting sheet metal according to CAD drawings (even one at a time). Guess you need a little bit of luck too. Now i have just to paint that. Aaaand TADAAAAAA!!!!! This looks way nicer than i feared it might look. As you might have noticed...the wood is actually playwood...for the same reason the copper is not really copper. Sadly i dont have a CNC so i had to outsource the wood cutting as well. At least the openings i cut myself. (pretty lousy if one might notice) But as nobody will ever see the inside or the backside....since it will be on my fathers desk for the next 5 years.... Don't care Thats it for now. Thanks for reading along.
  18. Project: Xyla is a personal custom project of mine that I have been designing for some time now. This was my first time using a 3D modeling software and as much as I enjoyed designing it, I am eager to actually start building now. It is a scratch DIY PC desk build so this will take some time as I want knockout any imperfections as I go. Overall it is my third computer build and my first custom water cooled system as well. I’ve done tons of research on the dos and don’ts of watercooling so in theory, I shouldn’t run into any problems (major ones at least). I’ve always had a big interest for DIY anything, but more so for computer technology and such. It’ll be a fun project, modding is always fun. It took me a few months+ to design this... Sad to say that long (first time using SketchUp ever) but I went in detail about literally everything in here (I will post more pictures down the road). I wanted to make a "manual" for myself when I start building this project. As for assembly for the desk, the main parts will be CNC milled and every other part will be done with power tools and a touch of pixie dust. I’m going to stain the legs dark, carbon fiber wrap the desk’s “guts and skin”, and paint everything else matte black. The glass will be custom cut and tempered for durability. I will be using MDPC-X for sleeving all PSU cables and other computer wires to make cable management as easy and as pretty as possible. All other visible wires (fans wires, LED wires, etc.) will be in accordance with this colorway as well. I have received my MDPC sample kit and these cable sleeves are stunning! I can't wait to start sleeving these. I am pretty patient when it comes to building anything but if there seems to be any flaws or something that seems like it wouldn’t work, please feel free to let me know. I am open to your beautiful minds. 19. EDIT: Featured on Geforce Garage! Hey guys, I've been lurking around here for quite some time. I think it's time I post my first build log on this site. I actually finished this project over the course of a year. I finished it last month and have been putting off doing a proper build log. I have all the progress photos I'll need, but I wanted to take the time and give it a proper write up. After Quakecon (an annual Dallas based lan party), I have had a lot of requests for a write up and I finally have time to do it. So this should take me a few days to get through, but I really hope you enjoy the process along the way. I'm not going to post this finished picks until after I complete the log. So, here we go! Project Breadbox Project what? This is a computer, not a container to hold bread wtf. The name kind of came out of the process of building this computer. Later in the build log, you'll see that I'll be messing around with some breadboard circuits for some LED stuff. One uses breadboards for prototyping circuitry. As one of my original design concepts was to build something that could potentially be taken to market, this is my prototype/proof of concept in which I adopted the name breadbox from breadboard. I knew I wanted something much smaller than my current Phanteks Evolv ATX which you can view here if you'd like: https://imgur.com/a/L39VK. I wanted to be able to incorporate a full watercooling loop without sacrifice. I also wanted to be able to see all of the hardware. This meant flipping the motherboard so that I could mount the GPU with its waterblock facing the left side of the case. (instead of only being able to see its backplate if it was mounted on the right side of the case. It will feature 3 windows in the exterior of the case: left, right, and top. Here you can get a good look at the size comparison. Left: white box is the size of the Evolv ATX. Right: First Concept. This is my proof of concept design. Mainly just figuring out if all the hardware will fit in the footprint that I want. This is also where the top manifold area idea was born. It would be quite some time before I even got to this stage in the build process. I wanted the internal frame to slide in and out of the exterior shell. One of my goals for this project was to make several different types of external shells out of different materials. Concept of personalization if I were to ever go to market. This is the motherboard I originally started out with. A MSI z270 Gaming Pro Carbon AC. This motherboard has some really good specs for the price, and has a good mono chromatic color scheme with and RBG header. I also like where the power headers are located. This will make for a cleaner look once finished. Also the steel reinforced slots are a nice touch. As this motherboard would have been mounted in an inverted position. The MSI logo would have been upside down. But lucky enough for me the heatsink is symmetrical, so I was able to flip it around quite easily, as pictured below. Still waiting on parts at this point, so I worked with what I could. The Frame So at first I was going to do this out of sheet metal. As I try to do my mods with basic tools so that others can replicate, this proved very difficult to get straight edges, even with filing. Steel is not easy to work with. I could of gone with a thinner gauge, which would of help significantly but ultimately I decided to change the materials. I want to have CAD drawings for panels to be laser cut but I want to work out the prototype before I invest in that. This approach could have worked. I have more photos of getting to this point but ultimately I just wasn't happy at all with the result so to the scrap pile this goes. Aluminium to the rescue! This stuff is relatively cheap and far easier to work with. I can use my table saw to make straight square cuts. Here I'm using aluminium angle for the frame. I'm using clamps to mock up the shape. I wanted to see how well this would work for before I invested in more of it. But I was able to make the frame out of a single length of aluminum angle (25mm). I started by using angle for the shorter lateral supports but later I'll move to using aluminum sheet for this as it'll help keep the frame square and look much better. But I'm still waiting on that to come in at this point. I'll have a full list of materials at the top of this build log. I drilled and tapped 6/32 threads to secure the frame together. I did this while the frame was still clamped together. Later after I dissasemble the frame, I will dirll out the outer hole so the screw will pass through to the inside threads. All the lateral supports will keep their threads and the vertical supports will just have holes. This makes assembly easier and also allows the material to seat next to each other tighter. Once you remove the screws it would be difficult to get the thread patterns to line back up, which is why I drilled out the holes on the vertical supports. Also note that I used this pattern of a diagonal. This helps to keep the frame square when reassembled. Here you can see how I'm using the clamps as well as a combination square (without the ruler) to help square up the frame as I drill and tap. Frame assembled. I'm still waiting on my radiator to come in. So the mid supports are not secured yet. I want to be sure I have the right clearance. But here you can start to see the concept come to life. Personally I love the look of radiators over the back side of fans, and to have it span the entire bottom of the case is going to look super clean. I made a wood template to help me visualize the design further. Really I was just bored while I waited on my aluminum sheet. Here you can see a good idea of the size of the project in relation to the rear I/O plate. The fan in the case is 140mm. The aluminum sheet has finally came in. I cut the top plate to realize that the frame is 1/4" out of square. Son of a bitch! Eh I'll fix it later. (you cant see it but it is) I know this because the piece I cut binds as I put it in. Also you can take a tape measure and measure corner to corner in a diagonal both ways. If it is square the measurements will be the same. Ok. I need to run to dinner. I'll continue some more tonight. Thanks for stopping by to check out this process!

  22. Hi This is my first post on linustechtips.com. At the moment I'm working on a custom, watercooled desk PC. The theme will be black with copper accents like the watercooling pipes and other components. I've already started with making the desk and buying the components. It's a slow but steady work in progress. I thought I'd share some sketchup images of the project with you, together with some build log photo's. 23. Hey everyone, I hope you are having a great day, and thank you for checking out my build log! I have been working on this project for a while, and actually made a forum post a very long time ago (which has been deleted), but progress has been slow until a week or two ago, and I’m stoked to finally be able to post about it! I’ll first lay out everything I’ve done up to this point, and then update this log regularly as I make progress. Without further ado, let’s go! Background: I’m a highschool student in the Bay Area, and really love PC modding. Apart from a relatively simple and small mod, I haven’t done much - most of my interest is perpetuated by reading/watching other people’s excellent build logs. Hopefully this can be my sort of gateway into the realms of PC modding, and be the first of many projects! Goal: I’m a stickler for clean, understated builds. Don’t get me wrong - I love the builds that go all out as well, but something about that slate, flat appearance really appeals to me. In addition, I love SFF stuff - trying to cram all of your components into as small of a footprint of possible is a challenge (plus materials cost less!) With this build, I’m trying to capture the essence of both, creating as small of a PC case as possible given my current hardware, while maintaining a clean and subdued aesthetic - “monolithic” even (which is where the name came from.) As a side note, this build’s name is completely unrelated to MetallicAcid’s Monolith, which I didn’t know of until this build was underway. As of right now, the build measures in at (273.65 x 112.9 x 264.84mm, 8.18L) excluding the feet, and 8.8L with them included. As it stands now, I believe this is on track to be the smallest M-ATX case built that supports Dual-Slot GPUs (255mm Max), and a fully internal PSU (no DC-ATX Converters.) My intentions aren’t to be the first in the world or anything, I just designed the case around hardware I had (either bought used or donated by friends), and it ended up being pretty small. Materials: The case is made out of a combination of ⅛ and ¼ inch P95 matte acrylic sheets from Tap Plastics. This stuff looks absolutely gorgeous, the way the matte side catches and swallows the ambient light is really something unique. As far as fastening the panels together, I am using Parvum Mod Cubes, in conjunction with various lengths of button head M3 screws, which make the case look pretty industrial/clean IMO. I also used M3 standoffs and nuts to secure the motherboard to the case, and am 3d printing several brackets to mount the GPU and SSD. Parts: Like I stated above, most of my parts either were free from friends, or bought used (on hardwareswap). I’ll list everything I have now, and update it as needed. PC Portion: CPU: AMD A10-7890K (Have) Motherboard: MSI A88XM Gaming (Have) RAM: 2x4GB DDR3 1600 G.Skill Bare Black PCB RAM (Have) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9A (Have) SSD: Intel 320 120GB SSD (Have) GPU: EVGA GTX 750Ti FTW ACX (Have) PCIe Riser: 3M 500mm PCIe x16 Riser (Have) PSU: Seasonic M1U Flex ATX 300w (Have) Case Parts: Laser Cut panels: Tap Plastics P95 Matte Black Acrylic ¼ and ⅛ inch (Have) Window: Tap Plastics Cast Clear Acrylic ⅛ inch (Have) Mod Cubes: 2x Sets Parvum Mod Cubes (Have) Screws: 6/10/16mm Black M3 Button Head Screws from Amazon (Have) Standoffs: 6+6mm Black Nylon M3 Standoffs (Have) Nuts: M3 Nuts Black (Have) M3 Washers: Black 8mm M3 Washers (Have) 3d Printed Parts: Black ABS parts printed with a Zortrax M200 off of 3d Hubs (Shipping) Sleeving Parts: Sleeving: Paracord Planet 550 Paracord Black (Have) Wire: Buywireonline UL1007 16AWG White (Have) Connectors: 24 Pin Female, 18 Pin Female, SATA Crimp connector, PCIe 6 Pin Female, 4+4 Pin EPS/CPU Female (Have) Terminals: MainFrame Female ATX Terminals (Have) The Design: The case has certainly been through several iterations, and I would like to believe that the latest design (the one I am using) has benefitted from things I have learned along the way. My first concept is pretty similar to what I have now, the basic form is still the same, as well as the Parvum Mod Cube fastening method. However, the way the GPU and PSU were mounted at the back was extremely inefficient as well as the weird slotted grill on the right side panel. First Iteration My second design is pretty much what I have now. I tweaked things and changed the placement of the PSU and GPU to create a much smaller and more space efficient case, and changed the right side panel to have a direct grill over the CPU cooler. I explain the different aspects of the case in more detail in the spoiler. Second iteration What I’ve done so far: At the moment of starting this build log, I have laser cut most of the case panels, and am waiting for the 3d printed parts (I can cut the window on Friday.) Here are some photos of the case as it stands right now! Roadmap/Updates: This is as much for me as it is for you guys, which will help me stay on track and culminate my ideas. 3D model the case (Completed) Laser cut the case (In Progress) 3D print mounts/brackets (In Progress) Sleeve/Make custom cables (Planned) LED light the case (Planned) Finish/paint the case (Planned) That’s it guys! Hopefully I’ll have some more posts up soon detailing the issues I’ve had so far, as well as explaining more about how everything works. It would mean the world to me if you followed along, and I’d more more than happy to answer any questions!
  24. My idea is to make a computer case that's more congruent to furniture and interior design... rather than electrical boxes in an industrial setting. The first picture below is one of the many I used as inspiration [I will not copy this design]. 1. Below, what do you see? The armrest from broken Swedish chair? I see a computer case. 2. The layout. 3. Frame pieces all cut to size. 4. Gluing things that are not at right angles always takes some creativity. Here I had to add non-stretch ribbons to the clamps to pull the different angles together. 5. I tested a few different hinge types, and decided simplest was best. 6. Rear panel and mobo tray went in with no problems. 7. Front Panels: I used 1mm mild steel [because I had a bunch laying around]. The first one looked good on paper but after I made it, I didn't like the radius of the bends. Then I made one with a simpler 'C' cross-section, hated it. I wound up trashing at least 3 or 4. 8. Finally decided on this. Here I'm trying to get the 1mm gap lined up, and get the pilot holes drilled. 9. Front Panels done. This took way longer than any of the other operations because the tolerances had to be kept under 1/2mm [not fun]. 10. Rear panel framed in too. 11. With a temporary psu I started looking at what internal structure needed to be added. 12. Space for 3 x 120mm fans that will draw cool air from the bottom. The hot air will exhaust from the top because warm air naturally rises. 13. Changed my mind about the placement of the hard drives. Put in a crossbeam behind the mobo tray so the interior parts have something to attach to [it is parallel to the floor but the different angles might give the optical illusion that it's tilted]. 14. Created this triangular bracket because both the front and rear components are at an angle, and I wanted to tie them together solidly. 15. Power switch finished. Frame stripped down ready for paint. 16. Another view of power switch. 16. The case is Finished! It's covered with nylon fabric so... a) if you put 'awesome' components in it, you'd be able to see them from any angle; b) no heat is trapped inside; c) less dust gets in. 17. Front: the 'on' button is under the fabric but the ring around it glows when powered-up. Originally I wanted to hide the button when it's off, but the cloth turned out too see-thru for any hiding. 18. Right side panel can be removed with 4 screws. 19. Back view. 20. Bottom view. 21. Left panel swings open w/ just 2 screws, giving access to the entire interior. 22. Hard drive area fits either 1 SSD and 3 HDD... or 2 SSD and 2 HDD. 23. Detail of upholstery. In Its Environment: 24. If I wanted to use it as an entertainment computer, it could sit by the TV. [I know the 'holes' in the back are distracting, but they should all be filled w/ components, making the whole thing visually more solid.] 25. A slightly more 'sculptural' location. 26. I think it fits best here by the couch. Theoretically, I could use a wireless keyboard and the TV as a monitor.
