So I'm finally going to be retiring my i7 2600K which has been serving me well for many many years. I'll be building a new system for gaming, some light video/audio editing as well as Netflix and movies. I'm going for a black and white theme so I'm mainly picking parts that fit this aesthetic. Monitor-wise I'm going for either 1080p 144Hz or 1440p 60Hz.Right now I'm leaning towards 1080p 144Hz since all the video content I consume is in 1080p anyways. Hello everyone! I've been here a while, but only now did I want to ask a question. I have a PC with an i5 2400 and I was wondering if it is worth it to find a 3770K (Most powerful LGA1155 CPU) or a 2600K/2700K (Most powerful Sandy Bridge CPU) so that I can revive my build? I've been planning it for a while but I'm having trouble finding second opinions. Many thanks!

Hello everyone, I'm currently thinking about upgrading to Ryzen or (if there's any option atm) to a newer Intel system, however I'm not sure if just going i7-2600 and going to 16GB of Ram would also do it. My current specs are: i5-2400 OEM Mobo 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 AMD R9 270x Samsung 850 EVO 500GB I play at 1080p on a 60Hz Display. Also, this new PC is basically my first real attempt to get to PC Gaming, as currently most AAA Games that are being released are being played on my Xbox. Now, with the new consoles right around the corner, and Microsoft publishing their AAA Games on PC also, I no longer see the need to buy a console. My Budget is 300$ max. and I'm based in Germany, so no Microcenter or CEX for me :/

So I'm lost for words, I have this Intel motherboard bd75en. I put my 3770 core i7 in it and it Boots fine, only thing is it won't recognize my 1070. When I put my 2500 in it, it works fine. I've already updated the BIOS to the latest version available. I should also mention the fact that the 3570 I have works with the 1070 in the Intel board. The same 3770 works perfectly with a 970 that I also have in a different z77 board. I've tried different power supplies, different PCI Express slots, different power supply cables and pretty much everything but the combination of a 3770 with the GTX 1070 will not let me use 3D graphics, it won't even install Nvidia control panel. Anyone has any insights? I should add that the combination of a 3770k with the 1070 in my z77 board works perfectly but in the Intel board it will only take the i5 with the Pascal card.

I've been eyeing an upgrade from my current Xeon x3440 (nehalem) due to poor FSX performance. However, as I'm a cheapskates, I'm considering what is the best value I can get. I play CS, FSX, ETS2 and Insurgency and I like to stream a bit. Sandy bridge - e3 1230 for $55 + mobo Ivy bridge - e3 1230 v2 for $80 + Mobo Haswell - e3 1220 v3 for $65 I have a 1050 TI and play at 16x9 (Getting an Rx 470 and 1080 monitors) Is the e3 1230 much better than the x3440? And is hyperthreading worth it over the cheaper e3 1220 v3?

Hello, I'm currently using a 3570k @ 4.3ghz on an AsRock Extreme4 Z77 with a Noctua NH-U14S. My friend has a used 2600K that's he's willing to sell to me for £25, however I'm debating whether to swap my current CPU out with the older i7. I mostly play games, but I also use my PC for music production (with Studio One 3), running emulators such as Cemu and Yuzu, and occasionally video editing too. I'm happy to overclock and I'm not so worried about getting the absolute max out of my GTX 970 as I only have a 60hz 2560x1080 monitor. Is it worth swapping out my i5 for the older i7? I've heard the Sandy Bridge chips overclock really well, I can't get my 3570k past 4.3 without serious temp increases. Thanks very much for reading! EDIT: I should've made it clear that I don't have the money to upgrade my motherboard and RAM so am stuck on the Z77 platform for the forseeable future.

I got a strange issue, which I tried to solve for months now and where I got no hope left for a permanent solution. I don't get it, why it's still imposible to do Major Windows 10 Updates without a "freeze", followed by boot looping for serval Haswell or Sandybridge based Systems. Here's what i expirienced with the following combination. A budget PC, OEM by Asus, with a "h81m-a" board and a "i7-4770s" still can't do the update (from Windows 7 or windows 10 first release to April 2018 or second "October" November release), even if the latest official "BIOS" is in place. BIOS manipulations, like a CPU microcode which I applied to the different partitions within the UEFI's (GPT Based) "BIOS" file system (Check "FIT Table" Screenshot) have no effect either. I'm not all alone with this issue (but I don't own a "G3258" CPU). For reference one of many links: Intel forum about H81 and G3258 I suspect that there exists a general problem with all "Intel H81" based systems, but I can't confirm it. But maybe this could be a topic for Linus to investigate. Because so far "team blue" never gave a clear answer to this issue.

I just updated the bios on my ECS P67H2-A3 and it boots and then shuts down afters 20 seconds. When I say boots I mean just shows the bios screen. If I press the delete key it says entering setup but still shuts down. It used to not boot at all until I removed some ram. I’m guessing my bios is toast and I need a new mobo. I bought a Z77 motherboard from a user on reddit.com/r/hardwareswap (great subreddit) and I installed it in the NZXT S340 case. Problem is it didn't have an I/O plate. Or so I thought. I found it in one of the bags the user shipped it with 5 minutes after I finished building it. So I installed the I/O plate and turned the computer on to make sure everything worked, and it did! After that I went somewhere else for a few minutes and when I came back to the computer it wouldn't turn on no matter what I did. What happened, and what are some possible solutions. -
I'm looking to replace my very old laptop with a desktop. I've got a 27inch 1440p display and peripherals, and I was looking at buying a refurbed OptiPlex or similar. There seems to be some quite good deals for systems with i7 2600's, but do they have much life left in them? Presumably Windows 10 support will stop for them at some point? I couldn't see a specific end date on ark.intel. I won't really be using it for gaming, just very light games if I do. It will mainly be used for browsing, office, and web development. Is it worth going for a 2600 in 2018? -
Hallo Allo Wasn't sure where to post this, in motherboards or graphics. I guess since I'm having issue getting something to display then I posted here. I got given a Gigabyte DA-H77M-D3H motherboard with an i5-5200 Sandy Lake CPU. When I turn with just internal graphics, everything is fine. However I have a spare Sapphire r390 8gb. When I insert this, I don't get the boot screen, like not even the very first motherboard splashscreen / post screen. I don't know what's up or who to turn to. I have tried another graphics card ( rx580 8gb ) but same thing. I don't know if the PCI-Express slot is faulty or if the Graphics card are not compatible with the CPU/Motherboard. The manual did say that I need to have an Ivy Bridge CPU to get full PCI Express 3.0 and therefore optimal performance. I am not sure if that is an actual requirement to actual getting anything to display on screen. I have changed the setting in the BIOS to use the external graphics card first but no difference. I don't want to disable internal graphics from BIOS because then I really will be screwed and I don't think I should need to. I have heard Gigabyte support is poor and since this motherboard is way old they probably won't even fart in this direction. The graphics cards work because I have tested in another computer so no point going to AMD or sapphire. Could anyone please help? I am maybe looking for either steps to help solve or maybe if anyone can direct me to some entity that can provide support. I am in Canada, Mississauga.Toronto. Hi! I am really curious if I can enable hyperthreading on my i5 2500k. I know that intel lasers off cores, but HT isn't a physical thing, it's just a manipulation of the cpu. So I was wondering if it can be done via a custom cpu microcode/bios hack.

I currently have an MSI X79A-GD45 motherboard paired with an i7 3820 at base speed and i was wondering what i could upgrade it with to gain some performance. Or is this a dumb question and should i just get an i5 8600k or i7 8700k?

I've decided to finally put what I have and take the plunge into PC gaming by upgrading my 2011 Dell Vostro desktop. I have already installed 12 gigs of ddr3 at 1600 MHz (yes, 12 GB of ram, I'll get to that later) and have selected a Core i5-2500 from Ebay since it's the best the LGA 1155 socket in this motherboard supports, or so my research has led me to believe. The problem I have is the VRMs on the board; I've seen some people online say that mismatched RAM modules (especially uneven RAM quantities) can place a significant strain on the VRMs and short the board. The RAM I have installed is a duo: one 4 gigs and the other 8 gigs. Maybe for a motherboard with a beefy heatsink this might not be a problem but my motherboard has none, like so: My question is: am I running a risk of shorting the board and if so, is there anything I can do to remedy that. Before someone comments what I believe to be the obvious: I got the RAM from a friend for $45 total and took the risk of mismatching the sets since none were similar and that was all I could afford. I appreciate any advice you guys can give me. PS: Tips on how to make a better looking/more appealing post are also welcome.

Howdy, I've noticed since the whole Spectre/Meltdown news broke publicly my Sandy Bridge based daily driver is slower than it used to be though that might just be placebo. Regardless if the slow down is real, I think I've read that most of the fixes to really get rid of the problems won't roll back past Haswell. Is this the straw to finally upgrade a Sandy Bridge based system or does that soldered processor just keep on trucking if surrounded by modern stuff (SSD and GTX-1070 here) like that other Canadian tech channel's tests suggest Thanks -
Hello, I am on my way to completing my plan to upgrade my setup, and I have everything from Hardware to Aesthetics. However, I am having trouble in finding a GPU that goes well with my CPU (The Sandy-Bridge Core i3 2120). Everything else in my setup hasn't been bought yet and I have a budget of around $400 to upgrade/have a setup (PC, Monitor, Decals, Peripherals, etc.). I have done a bit of research and came with these options, I just need help with choosing/finding a GPU: I have narrowed down to these options, feel free to add or give me suggestions/what to use: GTX 1050Ti (with a bit of bottleneck) RX 560 (with a bit of bottleneck) GTX 1050 RX 550 GTX 750Ti My PC (currently has): i3 2120 4GB DDR3 500GB 7200RPM Integrated HD 2000 No Wi-Fi Module The Case and PSU came with the PC (it's a pre-built), and I'm planning on taking the PSU and using that in the new case, with the RAM and GPU being the only hardware upgrade (maybe Windows 10), hence why I have no side panel Here's my plan so far (mainly just looking for a GPU): Computer Upgrades.pdf

I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 on my i7-2600 Sandy Bridge computer. However I'm very confused as to what drivers to install. When I use the search option on Intel's downloadcenter I don't see any chipset drivers nor do I see any drivers which are compatible with Windows 10 64-bit. What drivers do I download?

I did a clean install of windows 10 a while back on the system in my signature. However I am still having some nasty issues with it. My first was it was having a hard time seeing my hard drive and booting. I moved to different sata ports, and tried a new sata cable and this seemed to fix the issue for the moment. It still however randomly locks solid when gaming, the screen freezes and I get a steady noise out of the speakers. The reset button will not work in this instance and the only way to fix it is to hold the power button and shut it down. Another time it crashed while I was connecting my Bluetooth headset to it and when I got it back up the Bluetooth was not functioning. I disabled and enabled it and that seemed to get it up again. I have tried to update the Bios unfortunately it keeps saying " Could not verify image". I am not very good at trouble shooting so any advise or programs that you could point me to would be greatly appreciated.

I have a £120 budget for a short term CPU upgrade. I can buy a Z68 mobo to overclock for £30 if someone finds a unlocked CPU for £90. I was originally going to get a 3570k for £85 and a Z68 for £30 to overclock. What's the best CPU I can currently buy, used or new i dont care, that's 1155. I already have a 1155 H61M mobo. So i recently purchased an I5-2500k and an asus p8p67 rev 3 motherboard from a friend for 75$, but i have had nothing but issues since buying. I am running at abnormal temperatures, and have nooo idea why, I have reseated the heatsink 4 times, 3 with artic silver, one with lepa thermal paste. the lepa did fairly well at first but after a week of not useing the pc, i booted the pc up and was running mid 60c-80c.... the lowest i had the cpu running at idle is around 42, but that doesnt last long. So after some minor research, and useing task manager/open hardware monitor, i have realized this cpu is running at 1.36? volts.and is clocking in at 4.3.... this processor is only rated at 3.3-3.7 turbo. so my new issue is, what are the stock specs i need to input to bring this thing back to stock, because i have noooo idea. Before yall ask, room stays around 80ish degrees F. house is set to 78 but my main pc and my devices boost the temp up a bit. Im hopeing my stock cooler is still sufficent to bring this back to stock, all i built this pc for was to run overwatch on like low/med, maybe some gta on med, and mostly just use it as a youtube and twitch stream machine (just an entertainment pc, since xbox is gonna stop supporting the 360 soon) The Picture is my latest application of paste useing the smear pattern with a small xtra blob in the middle to oooze out (bout the size of a BB) and it is brand new atric silver 5. Also, if i have to redo the thermal again........ how much paste does intel like? my main pc is running a fx 8350 with a 240mm lepa AIO (where the lepa paste came from) and i have had noooo issues with that, i run max like 40 degrees. I5 2500k asus p8p67 = $75 msi r9 270x 2gb = $100 Cooler master 430 elite = laying around 8gb Crucibal Balistics = $28 240 gb adata SSD = $57 Corsair CX500M = $35 a beat of a machine for the price, if i can get running.... This is my current build. OS: Windows 7 Home 64 bit MB: Gigabyte Z68MX-UD3H-B3 Processor: Intel Core i7 - 2700k LGA 1155 CPU Cooler: Hyper 212+ SSD: Crucial M4 256GB SSD Memory: Corsair Vegence DDR3 1600 4x4GB GPU: EVGA 680 GTX Reference PSU: PC Power and Cooling Silencer 910W Case: Cooler Master 690 Advanced II Monitor: Dell Ultrasharp 2412M (24inch IPS 1080p) So I know my current rig is pretty old. I built this back in 2011ish and I have not had the time to really upgrade it and did not see it being worthwhile to spend lots of money to upgrade. This computer is used for some moderate gaming + a bit of moderate video editing. At some time I will probably add in another monitor or go 1440p dual monitor setup. I'm thinking of making the following upgrades right off the bat (they are bolded) OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit MB: Gigabyte Z68MX-UD2H-B3 Processor: Intel Core i7 - 2700k LGA 1155 CPU Cooler: Hyper 212X SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB Memory: Corsair Vegence DDR3 1600 4x4GB GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 FTW or SC PSU: EVGA SuperNova 650 G2 Case: Cooler Master Mastercase 5 Pro Monitor: Dell Ultrasharp U2515H (single monitor setup for now but dual in a few months time) . (25inch 1440p IPS) I have seen tons of back and forth and debates regarding status of 2500k but have not seen much about 2700k. Is it worth upgrading to the 6700k from my current setup? Or should I wait about half a year or so and see what is going with the next architecture? If I hit up 6700k, I would need to buy new MB, New CPU, new ram which could be a rather expensive 600-800 USD upgrade that I am not willing to spend right now. I only got the 2700k because I got a really good deal via Intel's program (iirc around $100 USD) So what do you think about current upgrades to extend the life of my desktop and what would you do?

Hi everyone, I'm currently on the lookout to upgrade my GTX 275 to GTX 1070. Now I've also considered that I should upgrade my CPU - MB - RAM in the near future. So I have two questions: 1. Will it really be worth upgrading to Skylake? I've never noticed any hiccups or lags whatsoever in my current PC except when it came to GPU intensive games. 2. Some have told me that there are issues with DDR4 regarding memory speeds and they slow down. I don't really believe that but I thought I'd ask you about it. If I'm to upgrade, I'd get Core i5 6400 and 16 RAM GB and probably H170 MB. My current PC has core i5 2400, 8 GB RAM and the Asus P8P67 Pro.
