I have the 9th Generation Apple iPad 10.2 Inch, and it works great, except since updating to iPadOS 17 I can't open Safari. All my other apps will open just fine, and my sister's iPad (same model), running iPadOS 16.1.1 is opening Safari. I've tried fixes on the internet and they haven't worked. Any suggestions?

I would like push notifications on my iPhone because I like being notified on new things and post. I understand if it’s too hard to make, but it would be really nice.

I bought a Mac a few days ago; so I was looking around for apps to tweak the software to my liking, and I downloaded fanny (a cpu temperature/fan speed monitoring widget). I ended up deleting the app but now the website (/process) seems to be running the entire time safari is. I've spotlight searched to check for any residual files and deleted them, but with no change. Any advice is appreciated (screenshot for reference) EDIT: Fixed by going to Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data... , deleting all data relating to that site and then rebooting.

What should I choose between chrome and safari?

... or does anyone else prefer to close and re open their Web browser rather than re use the open tabs for another site? I personally angrily close my browser if there's several open! Just feels like a fresh shiny browser rather than the dirty hoe full of open tabs! Re using tabs just makes me feel like am splashing into a nasty tart! ?

Mac users were given a Dark Mode in macOS Mojave which Apple showed off at WWDC 2018 This feature was previously limited to system applications. Now however, Apple has expanded Dark Modes reach to include websites in macOS Mojave 10.14.4 Beta This feature can be enabled by going to the "Develop > Experimental Features > Dark Mode CSS Support This feature does depend entirely on the developers of websites to enable Dark Mode CSS support to their sites. The Safari Technology Preview is also another way to test this feature, rather than installing a beta OS. As the title explains, Suddenly sinxe 3 days every time I go onto LTT it wants me to login and I do that via steam. Steam keeps sending me a email with a code to login - so it’s quite a hassle to login via my phone. Before this I was just always logged in, no issues. I dont have these issues issues on my PC or MacBook or iPad, only on my iPhone. iphone model: iPhone XR 256GB ios version: 12.0.1 browser: Safari 12 has anyone else encountered this issue ? thanks

Linus commented on Safari not having favicons in tabs. You can enable favicon for tabs via preferences. Which can be found here "Show website icons in tabs." Hopefully this can help Safari users if they didn't know this. Cheers.

Over Typing Issue Macbook 12
Graham Carter posted a topic in Linux, macOS and Everything Not-Windows
Am on my 2nd macbook 12 now. My first was a gold 2016 model and my current is 2017 model. On both laptops and on all versions of macos from Sierra to High Sierra have noticed that more often than not when you begin to type in any field in the safari browser, it glitches and constantly over types the first character until you physically click on the field you are typing in and then proceed to type. It doesn't happen in any other installed browsers and doesnt happen on the Macbook Pro either To summarise this seems to be an over Typing issue with Macbook 12 models within Safari. Anyone else observed this behaviour?- 5 replies

I'm not sure if this is just an issue I can't figure out or if I'm am not looking in the right places but does anyone know how to get Netflix picture in picture on Mac running OS High Sierra? I know how to get youtube videos to play in a pop up player within safari but I can't seem to find out how to do it for Netflix. I tried to use several safari extensions and even an app store app (PIPifier) but I can't seem to get it to work. Any help would be much appreciated! (Also for those wondering yes I am one of the three people who actually like and keep using safari over chrome).

Hi There is an issue with expanding signatures on Safari. I am using macOS High Sierra with Safari 11. The issue was also present on macOS Sierra and has persisted through a clean install of High Sierra. The resolution of my display is 2880x1800, but macOS and Safari actually display in 1920x1200 (scaled up to 2880x1800). See attached video that demonstrates the issue. The issue occurs on all signatures, no matter how big or small they are. Resizing the browser window doesn't fix it. ltt_safari_issue.mov

So I realise that this is pretty niche, but the (apparent) effort in implementing it appears to be very small. Basically, Apple added support for Pinned tabs in Safari back in 2015. However, instead of using the Favicon.ico standard, they require a link tag and an SVG icon. As I use the forum most days, and thus have it pinned, it would be useful to have a distinctive LTT icon there. Apple's documentation on implementing: https://developer.apple.com/library/content/documentation/AppleApplications/Reference/SafariWebContent/pinnedTabs/pinnedTabs.html Thanks!

I really enjoy using safari on mac... it is so snappy and the typography on it is better than chrome. And not even mention that it is buttery smooth. The only thing I couldn't get used to is the bookmark bar... text only??? Come on....

Ok , I understand this question probably seems stupid, however, I'm going to ask it anyway. Any Input would be appreciated. What I'm Looking for: I want to find an "app" or website, or whatever you'd like to call it, which me and my friend (me on windows/android) and her on iOS(Safari only: CANNOT INSTALL AN APP FOR THIS) can chat, IM/Send files/pictures etc. So similar to something like Kik, without the need for a cell phone (Just an iOS iPod). To reiterate, I have an Android Smartphone and a Windows PC. My friend only has an iPod on Wi-Fi ,however it cannot install apps for reasons. But we can do things in Safari on her end and Chrome on mine. Thanks. ~DivideBy0

It seems that after the forum update, it has now been made impossible to post on the forum using an ios device, and I think android may be the same. I have tied safari and chrome, and whenever pressing submit, it says "fields were left blank" when in fact everything was filled in. I started brainstorming what browsers may work and I cam across puffin browser. And yes as a matter of fact, this does work, I suppose it is because its java capabilties. So then why not just use puffin broswer? Well, there are many reasons, very slow, eats up battery very quickly, is very hard to use, and would just rather use another ios browser. So then I was wondering if anybody had a suggestion how I could post using safari, and hopefully it gets fixed soon.

I have this problem where every time I play a youtube video on Safari, the video will turn black screen randomly during the playback but it will continue playing with sounds. Anyone having the same problem with their safari too? I've tried using Chrome and Firefox and they worked just fine. I'm using the latest safari 8.0.5 and OS X 10.10.3 btw. What could be the problem and any ways to fix this?

My brother's mac has an issue. I don't know if it's a virus, or malware but here is what happens. Everything wiill be fine, he will be using safari then when a new page opens, any random page causes this, something will pop up saying he has a virus and to call a phone number, then he will get a popup that he can't close without force quitting safari. what should i do to fix it.

Well...this is awkward if you use your Private browsing modes for more private means. Looks like those URLs are still getting stored in a file on your computer, so unless you're packing a strong password + encryption on the drive, someone can take a peek at what you've been up to anyways. This is disappointing. Chrome wastes battery life and Safari is violating my happy time privacy, what browser is a man to use for such purposes? Read title... I have been having problems with Chrome. Sluggish browsing and constant freezes. (Especially on this site, each page needs a couple of seconds to load. I have 16gb of RAM and nice computer. I think it may be all my extensions, or Chrome... or both.) So I'm kinda in the market for a new browser. Or I may stick with Chrome. I was gonna ask which browser I should go with, but I think a thread about everyone's preferred browser is more interesting. Fire away! Judging by chrome's battery, RAM and CPU poor utilisation, I'm in need of a new browser that doesn't suck up all resources like there is no tomorrow.

Hi, my mac has some weird problem. Youtube is slow both in safari and chrome. It needs about 10seconds to load a page. Once the pages finished loading, the video loads fine even with 4k no problem. Additionally in chrome there is a bug, that every youtube page reloads after about 10 seconds. Also the forum logs me out constantly in chrome. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to solve it? Thanks in advance! additional info: 100k internet OSX Yosemite newest chrome and safari

Hey guys so I have this macbook pro and it keeps giving me the beach ball...It seems weird to me because it isn't getting hot or anything. it boots up like normal and opens up applications like normal as well...except when opening safari..or any browser that I have tried. I have tried using chrome and firefox as well as opera and I've been having the same results. As I was trying to check my model number it took the mac about a full minute to open up the options. If anybody could tell me how to fix this problem that would be great thanks (FYI I have nothing else opened other than safari) Specs: Running osx 10.8.5 Mid 2010 4gbs ram 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache 171.03 gbs/ 250gbs Normal hdd (link for full specs) http://support.apple.com/kb/SP584

As usual, the annual Pwn2Own contest featured many hackers targeting the latest operating systems and browsers from the major vendors, including Apple. Threatpost reports that the “Keen Team” focused Safari on Thursday and exploited it with relative ease. The team took home a $40,000 bounty for their efforts on Safari, as well as a share in a $75,000 prize for co-engineering a zero-day Flash exploit. They say they will donate some of their winnings towards charities representing missing Malaysian Airplane passengers. The group say that for Safari, they used two different exploit vectors. One vulnerability was a heap overflow in WebKit that enabled arbitrary code execution. The team then used this opening to use another exploit to bypass the application sandbox and run code as if it was user privileged. According to Chen, one of the pair who represented the Keen Team at Pwn2Own, the WebKit fix is will be easy for Apple to resolve although the sandbox exploit may be harder. “I think the Webkit fix will be relatively easy,” Chen said. “The system-level vulnerability is related to how they designed the application; it may be more difficult for them.” That being said, Chen believes that OS X offers better security than its rival operating systems. “For Apple, the OS is regarded as very safe and has a very good security architecture,” Chen said. “Even if you have a vulnerability, it’s very difficult to exploit. Today we demonstrated that with some advanced technology, the system is still able to be pwned. But in general, the security in OS X is higher than other operating systems.” In a separate interview with CNET, Chen said that despite the locked-down nature of iOS, Apple’s mobile OS is usually easier to target than OS X because Apple implements newer security safeguards more quickly on the desktop platform. As usual, Apple representatives observed the exploits at the event so fixes for the issues will likely appear bundled into future software updates for iOS and OS X.
