  1. Typing the default gateway address into a browser always returns some kind of error... tried multiple browsers and multiple devices, it's a cheap Zyxel router. Anyone have any ideas why?
  2. Have a zyxel router and tried to put into bridge mode to try a new router. Did not work and could not get back to original router settings to turn bridge mode off. Reset router and now the internet light on it is red. Have no idea why, was working fine before, but now I don't have internet. I have no idea why it won't work anymore. Tried to call my isp help desk, but they couldn't do anything and is forwarding me to business department for some reason. Can anyone help me? I'd rather not have internet for a couple days
  3. Hi, so I just eant to ask. I had router that is connected with cable out from wall, port is called DSL. It worked fine, I got new router, but there is no DSL, same cable can go just to Tel1 Tel2. Also under the router there is green port, one that is for fiber cable how I see. I just wanna know, is it possible to connect it when I dont have fiber network, just that DSL stuff. Thanks (Old router is not connected on photos)
  4. Hello Everyone, This is a weird one for me. I do not live in the U.S. at the moment, however where I am located I've never needed to use a VPN to access Hulu. I've used it for 2 years up until this point without a single issue. However, I recently bought a new Asus RT-AX86U router to take over router function from the modem router combo provided by my ISP and after getting it set up I suddenly get blocked from Hulu and told I cannot access it while using an anonymous proxy even when I am not. I do have a VPN but that does not work either when I try. I've looked through the settings and the only ones I've enable are QoS and OpenNAT which I can't see causing this issue. Has anyone else had this issue before or any idea how it may have happened? Thanks in advance!
  5. I'm currently using a GT-AX11000 and have been mostly satisfied with it so far! The latency at my house has largely been solid for as long as i've been here. Occasionally servers in games would show ping being doubled what i'm used to, but a simple reset would always squash it back down. Just recently, I received an "Upgraded" modem from Spectrum, and immediately every server in every game has doubled or tripled, like it would on occasion. After a lot of live chats, a couple of techs coming out to my house, and factory resetting everything multiple times, the issues stays the same. The weird part though, is if I plug my computer straight to the modem, my ping is fine, hovering around 30ms in the servers I play in. Switch to router, immediately hits 90ms or more. I tried swapping my router for the same model to see if my particular unit was being problematic, but nothing. I've tried stock firmware, i've tried merlin. And for reference, I am connected over ethernet, never over wifi. Currently I'm on the most recent version of Merlin. Is there anything I can do? Some setting i'm missing, or something that can be done? I know a router adds slight latency but triple the ping of the modem feels insane to me. I'm new to networking, but i've followed everything I could find here to no avail. I'll happily offer any further information if necessary. Thank you in advance!
  6. Hey all, I am trying to get WiFi into a metal outbuilding. The building has windows, and the signal kinda pierces, but the back half of the shed has no signal. The shed is about 50 feet away, and poking a hole in the side of either the house or the shed is not an option. It is a fully insulated space for for staying in for extended periods comfortably. Will a repeater work at a window where the wifi signal has a few bars? Should I go mesh? Or is there a stronger WiFi router I can use? I am using a TP link Archer AX6000.
  7. Hello. I'm looking to upgrade my home modem/router and would like some recommendations. Info: Budget of about 300-350$ Needs to be modem and router Ideally has good cooling since it's a somewhat cramped room it'll be in. I have CAT6A ethernet cables wired in the walls. I will eventually use a network switch but right now, I do not. It's a large area that the wifi needs to cover with 2 floors. I'm really looking for very fast wireless/wired LAN speeds since I do a fair amount of local FTP and also use a PiHole. So LAN speeds are very important to me. WAN Speeds are important but will never be higher than 2 gigabit most likely. I have alot of wireless devices connected at once. Ideally would have robust configuration options with modern features. (Port forwarding, good DNS options for my PiHole, etc) For the modem side, I have cable internet. (Not DSL) So far I have these two bookmarked - ASUS AX6000 (RT-AX88U) & ASUS ROG Rapture (GT-AX11000). However, these dont include modem functionality and are close to my budget as is. I dont know if I can get a modem and close unless the modem is a good price. Not sure. I'll be following the thread closely. Any/all input is appreciated. Thank you very much!
  8. Hello, I wanted to know if someone knows if there is custom firmware available for this router or if it could be able to port it since AFAIK, Tenda routers are just re-brands of other routers. I believe this router uses Realtek chip-set and i read that OpenWRT does not have support for Realtek chip-set, but I'm not sure. Couldn't fine more info about the arch or chip-set of this router. Any help is appreciated Product page: https://www.tendacn.com/product/AC21.html
  9. I use fiber broadband which provides 400 Mpbs internet speed. The connection type is PPoE and I have static IP. I am using Asus TUF AX5400 as my router. I have around 20 WiFi Clients (8 -5Ghz & 12 2.4Ghz) and 1 Wired device (Raspberry PI acts as DHCP, DNS & Samba Server). I use guest WiFi network for all my IOT devices which doesnt have access to the local network. In the above mentioned set up my Speedtest shows around 200-250Mpbs. This is same across speedtest.net, fast.com & mesurementlab (provided by Google Chrome). When I disable the Guest WIFI and connect all my IOT device to my 2.4GHz, the speedtest shows is what is promised by my internet provider (400-450Mbps). I have a Oracle Cloud server where I have enabled Pi VPN (Wireguard). This behaviour of reduced speed is also seen when I connect my Router to Wireguard VPN Client. The router is running the latest firmware provided by ASUS and I dont see any reason why Internet speed should be throttled. What are my options?
  10. Why does this keep happening? While my routers CPU core hits 100% i get a huge latency while i.e. pinging my router. Ive ordered a new asus router with 4 cores. And hopefully that wil solve the problem. But my question is, does anyone know why this happens? We are only 2 people living in this apartment.
  11. https://imgur.com/SPvjyOY Example:^ Is there some settings i could change on my rotuer to get rid of this? Im running a cable to a switch, that goes into my router. Its an Asus CD6 router, its pretty new and should be plenty for a houshold of 2 people.
  12. So there's not a single decent router that you can buy in the us that still has DSL support especially ADSL+ support so I'm thinking I could just build my own. up here in the mountains it's DSL or Internet that's it. Starlink isn't possible down here and the modem frontier provided is horse crap. it's wifi speeds are slow it doesn't support the latest standards it's range sucks it only has 2 Ethernet ports it's link speed is 757kbps and it's just awful and I'm wondering if there's anyway I could use a old Dell optiplex and have it work with opensense while having it's wan hooked up from ADSL+ is this possible in any way? But still have all the latest features like wifi 6 2.3 and 5ghz port forwarding gigabyte Ethernet wpa3 long range and still receiving updates? Is this all possible?
  13. Hello, I was searching on Google for some help but the problem is that I don't really know what to look for. So I live in an apartment and my rent includes 1 gigabit internet but I have Ethernet port on my wall so I tried 2 different routers but that did not worked since if I understand correctly, they just send data trough Ethernet, not receive. But if I connect the Ethernet port with cable to my laptops Ethernet port, it works just fine. Problem is that I want to connect it to a router but I don't know which one to look for that is decent and also cheap. I am talking about Ethernet (wall) to Ethernet (router) with 1 gigabit speed trough lan and WiFi can be whatever, the WiFi is for neighbors and guests but my laptop allows only 8 devices connected to it's hotspot which is quite low.
  14. Im looking at this huawei router to get for my grandmother, (shes a little techy so cant get the cheapest one) The only thing im a little worried about is privacy, I don't want to be overly paranoid but also would never want to risk her data being sold. Some people say that Huawei routers track you and send data to china and sell your data usage. Is there an article or something looking into this? And if well they do sell a bit of data is there any way to prevent it like for example blocking some domains or ips? If you have any suggestions for a diffrent router (preferably under $50 US) second hand is 100% ON the table, would love to get a better router for cheap just because it has been used. Thanks
  15. I'm using this Mi WIFI 3C for last 3.5 years It cam with English firmware and today the control panel suddenly turned to Chinese language the the option to change languages is missing (It used to be there) They are not pushing any updates the current version is 2.14.45 Now I'm looking for a English Firmware I'm unable to find official firmware Can you guys help me find Official English Firmware or any other third party trusted English firmware Router: Mi WIFI 3C White EDIT: Found an English Firmware 2.8.51 from ''Somewhere'' Using it for now. Still looking for an Official version or any other trusted one. Thanks.
  16. So, as I'm writing out my quandary, I'm realizing it's really a multi-part question, so I will do my best to enumerate them. Given a cable modem with a single 2.5Gb WAN-out port: If I'm plugging the modem into a router that only has a single Gigabit WAN-in, does that mean the network speed is capped at 1Gb? If I'm plugging the modem into a router that has 2(+) Gigabit WAN-in ports, would it be possible to use an ethernet splitter like this linked one to increase my throughput to 2Gb? To maximize network throughput, would I be better off replacing my cable modem with one whose number of WAN-out ports matches the number of WAN-in ports on the router? Alternatively, would I be better off buying a router whose WAN-in cap matches the modem's WAN-out. (e.g. a router with +2.5Gb WAN-in) Other than having the cable modem, all the rest is hypothetical, as I'm still in the planning stages of revamping the building-wide network for a non-profit; I'm a volunteer with more net-admin knowledge than anyone else, which means just enough to break things in ways no one else can fix :P
  17. Why can't I find my router on the Internet normally? The most popular company that makes a router is Cisco, so I looked on their website, it is not even there. Which router is right for school now? To serve the entire building 2 floors in all classrooms 1 computer for the teacher. 5 IT rooms with 20 computers each. Requirements: DSL WAN port Integrated managed switch: 8 ports 10/100 BASE-T Wireless network: 802.11ac Integrated firewall SNMP support VPN / IPSec tunnels Virtual LANs Are these requirements that I wrote up to date, or are some other technologies required now?
  18. So, I have an issue that I've not seen before. I recently got a new Linksys router (https://a.co/d/3XCzorJ) and one problem that I found was that certain apps on either my or my partner's phone wouldn't load some of the content. We've noticed this happening with Twitter, Reddit, Amazon, and HBO Max, but any other app like YouTube and Facebook seem to have no issues. This seems to be an issue with the WiFi and not with a wired connection. Should I contact support, or is there something I can do/change? Any help is appreciated -Turtle
  19. I recently acquired a 5G mobile modem/router from my mobile phone provider, since my primary ISP has unreliable connectivity, wired both modems to an Ubiquiti Edgerouter-X 5, configured failover from primary to 5G, and wired that to my existing network. It works fine right now, but I wanted to know is it feasible to pair down the amount of NATing on my network? I know that mutli-NATed network *may* be susceptible to some connectivity issues when there is more than one router at play. So let me break down the different configured subnets: Primary Modem: 98.XXX.XXX.XXX/22 (modem only) 5G Modem/Router: 192.168.XXX.XXX/24 (different from below subnets) EdgeRouter-X: 192.168.100.1/24 (switch0 interface) Gryphon Router/AP: 192.168.1.1 (/24?), with device DHCP range: 192.168.1.100-249 I think this results in routes to/from the Primary modem being double NAT: Primary Modem (No NAT) -> ER-X (NAT) -> Gryphon (NAT) Is it advisable to remove the ER-X's Source NAT rule to Masquerade for the Primary Modem if my ER-X is only connected to the one Gryphon Router? Would this interfere with when a failover occurs that changes routes from Primary Modem to 5G? Then there's the routes to/from 5G modem/router that might be a triple NAT: 5G modem/router (NAT) -> ER-X (NAT) -> Gryphon (NAT) I know that there is no way to remove NAT from the 5G modem/router, but what about removing it from the ER-X? Would that work alright in a failover scenario? As for the Gryphon Router: It seems NAT is built-in and cannot be disabled. All I can configure is LAN IP, static & DHCP Ranges for devices, and configure WAN for DHCP, Static IP, or PPPoE. I know that the ideal solution would be to ditch Gryphon router+mesh alltogether, but I can't afford to replace it with an AP-only hardware, like a Ubiquiti AP. I would also like to avoid setting any additional manual IP addresses if possible, aside from switch0 interface. Lastly, is it possible for my ER-X to do traffic analysis of my Gryphon's subnet by changing ER-X or Gryphon config such as changing & broadening the ER-X's "switch0" interface's subnet, or does each router need to continue to have separate subnets? I think my ER-X config is relatively simple, but here it is sanitized below, and also my network diagram below that if you are curious what's downstream from the routers: Thanks for reading.
  20. Hi, i'm trying to use this router model (TP-LINK TL-WR702N) with my linux mint 20 (ulyana). My mint detected the router, but cannot connect to it's network, either through wired or wireless connection, it just keep failing to connect. When i test the router in windows, the PC connects normally to it. Any idea what i can do to get mint to connect to this router? Or should i just get a different router? Thanks in advance.
  21. Hello! This is my first post here. Recently I switched to an optical fiber connection (1 Gbps Up/Down). I’m looking for a really fast Wi-Fi router capable of reaching at least 1 Gbps wirelessly in a pretty large apartment (200 square meters, including several cocreate walls). I borrowed a TP-Link Archer AX11000 for testing but unfortunately maxed out at about 700 Mbps. Are there any Wi-Fi routers capable of 1000+ Mbps in real life scenario (with Intel AX210NGW Wi-Fi card)? Naturally, at a reasonable price point, let’s say no more than 500 euros (or US dollars). Currently I’m considering Asus ROG Rapture GT-AX6000.
  22. I recently acquired a 2U server blade with dual 10-core Xeons, 64GB RAM, 2.5TB of SSDs, dual redundant 900W PSUs, 4 RJ-45 NIs (not incl. the IMM port) and figured I'd do my dream server build, but I'm struggling a little. My plan is to run Linux Mint as a host OS for VMware Workstation Pro 16 and run VMs for: pfsense OpenVPN Home Assistant Plex Media Server I'm currently having trouble getting Mint to connect to the Internet through pfsense. I can ping the default gateway IP successfully in CLI, WAN and LAN configure in pfsense, pfsense can ping Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS, but I can't access the Webconfigurator for pfsense or open a website in Firefox. I'm fairly certain I have VMware's network settings correct, but I'm a bit rusty on my network admin skills, so I'm not sure if I'm using the best subnet settings, etc. My biggest concern is that I don't have network settings correct for Mint or pfsense. It feels like the bridged virtual network connection just isn't working. I've tried different default gateway IPs, turned DHCP on and off, restarted my modem... I just don't understand what is going wrong. Don't hesitate to ask trivial questions. It may sound like I'm decently well-versed in this field, but my knowledge of this terminology is better than my practical knowledge, even though I do have some coursework and job experience with some of it. Any help would be appreciated, as well as suggestions for a better way to accomplish my goal. I'm not willing to give up on running this all on this machine, but I'll be honest that I have no idea if VMs and Mint were the right move.
  23. So let's imagine I have two servers on the same network with a single incoming internet connection. I want to run both servers on the same port, let's say 443, so that I don't have to append :someport to the address for the other one. Now let's also say that I have two domain names, both of which resolve to this same public IP address. Is it then possible create a port forwarding rule for my router (OpenWRT) to inspect incoming connections, and direct them to the appropriate server based on what domain name they used/resolved to get there? So that even though they're on the same network and sharing the same single internet connection, the servers can host services on the same external port and trust that users will be auto directed to the correct server based on their intended target. Can the router even see that information if a packets are encrypted via TLS/HTTPS, or is that part of the data encrypted as well?
  24. So for context I currently pay for have a 300Mbps connection and get pretty close to those speeds on all of my devices aside from my PC. The router I use is a Netgear Nighthawk R6900P. So the problem lies with my PC. I have a NZXT N7 B550 motherboard and use its wireless connectivity for my internet rather than a wired connection. While a phone or any device for that matter can routinely get close to the speeds I pay for my desktop gets between 2Mps and 230Mpbs but more often that not it stays in the single digits, oh and the cherry on top if I use the 5gh band on my desktop it disconnects constantly and cant stay connected for longer than 2 minutes without dropping. Ive tried uninstalling drivers and reinstalled, have rolledback drivers, way too many reboots and resets on both the router and pc network settings to even count. Even tried another PCIE network card and got pretty similar results (although it was a crappy spare had just lying around). Its to the point I've lost connection 5 times just simply writing this post and I swear I can hear my network card laugh at me If i even think about playing anything that requires a connection or has multiplayer. I'm lost and feel like I've exhausted my personal knowledge and cant find and answers online, any and all help would greatly be appreciated as I do sadly miss playing games with the boys
  25. Question is pretty much straight forward. I'm currently running an ethernet cable running from my Powerline adapter to my PC so I can get fastest internet speeds available on my line. The router and other equipment is located downstairs on the main floor, where all of the required cabling comes inside my apartment. I can't move that hardware upstairs to my room. I now have a different router (a Cisco EPC3925, supplied by a previous ISP) that I want to use as a LAN. The reason being, I've got a Quest 2 and would prefer to use Air Link. Now, knowing that the downstairs router does broadcast Wi-Fi, it's not a viable solution for me, as the two devices are too far apart and the experience would not be the best. I wanted to connect both Ethernet cables into my PC, and still have access to the broader internet, whilst being connected to the Cisco to use Air Link simultaneously. This has worked before, as I tried it out multiple times, but it's a hit or miss. The reason why I say hit or miss is because sometimes my PC recongises the Cisco router as the "main" router and cuts me off from Internet entirely. It completely disregards the connection that actually connects me to the internet. Is there a way I can set my 100Mbit Ethernet port as the one for Internet exclusively and the 1Gbit port for LAN only?
