I'm wondering which device TP-Link Archer AX23 or TP-Link Deco S7 (one device only) has better coverage? Does anyone has experience which of these devices has stronger signal and better signal coverage? Is better to buy mesh system instead of router (plus extender optionally at the future)? What are the benefits of mesh system? Also is big difference between wifi5 (ac) which uses Deco S7 and wifi6 (ax) which uses router? I want to has good signal across the whole house with area about 150m2. Thanks for help.

Solution For me, the solution was a new VPN Router from TP-Link that is just coming out in a few days... Talk about good timing https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B0C238XMVV?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image It has 2 x 2.5Gbps RJ45 ports, 4 x 1Gbps RJ45 ports and 1 x 1Gbps SFP port. Now that the ISP tech replaced my modem, I've setup my static IPs and port-forwarding rules, but I'll have to do it again when the new router comes in. Thank you to everyone who have their suggestions, I learned a lot and feel that I've made the best decision for me right now. Original Ask I would really like to have a good 2.5Gbps router that has at least 2 x 2.5Gbps ports (1 WAN and 1 LAN). I don't need this router to have any Wi-Fi as I have my own Wi-Fi APs around our house, but I could just disable the built in Wi-Fi if needed. I don't know enough about networking and I don't want to do something stupid and have some double NAT situation if I add a router in front of the ISP modem/router. From what I've read online, I should be able to configure this new router with a PPPoE connection to the modem which should avoid the double NAT situation, but TBH I don't fully understand that. The router that I was using with my previous ISPs modem (in bridge mode) is just a gigabit router and I really don't want to miss out on 1.5Gbps download speeds that I currently have. That's why I'm adamant on getting a 2.5Gbps router. I know that I could build a pfSense/openSense router, but I really would like to stick to an off the shelf unit just for the super low power usage. Back Story About 6 months ago I switched my ISP from a cable provider (Rogers) to a fiber provider (Bell) and so far it's been amazing, until last night My service was upgraded from 1Gbps/30Mbps to 1.5Gbps/940Mbps Last night, our internet just died out of the blue. I did the normal things, rebooted the modem as well as my switches, but nothing worked. The modems web UI was no longer accessible either. I called my ISPs tech support and their guy wasn't able to do anything aside from book a service appointment for today (currently waiting for them to arrive). It's been rough since we had to tether our work laptops to our phones and since the modem/router is down, I can't access any of our local devices. This defeats the purpose of having a Plex server and Home Assistant running locally if I can't access them locally if the modem is down My problem is that the modem/router provided by my new ISP doesn't have a bridge mode I have disabled the built in Wi-Fi, but I can't disable the routing logic. With my old ISP, I had the modem set into bridge mode and my own router handled all of the routing logic. This was ideal since I was able to setup all of my port forwarding and static internal IPs in my router so that when the ISPs modem died and had to be replaced, I was up and running in minutes.

I just moved in to a study apartment, with the Multiservice Gateway pre installed as my only option for an internet connection. But a person who has lived in the apartment before be has taken the power cord. I cant find out what cord it uses, so if anyone here knows what's the name of cable it is i would be very thankful. My landlord has been to no help, and I dont know if i can replace it even if i was allowed to. I have attached some pictures.

I live in Indonesia, it has one of the slowest connection of internet than most countries. I usually get 200 kb - 5 mb/s , I'm not sure whether buying another router is really going to change anything. Is there anyone else in my country that could recommend a good router with 50 mb/s or more? or is it not possible for my country? the photo below doesn't reflect when i actually download, i usually watch youtube on 480p and when I'm downloading i either get 200 kb/s - 2 mb/s

Hello! I finally convinced my mom to get rid of our landline so that we are not charged a stupid amount from Comcast for their Modem/Router combo. Currently we are waiting to start a new account under my name so that we can get their cheap 2 year contract and it will still be cheaper after contract when it ends. I do not want to use the ISP router again! We already have a TP-Link Archer AX50 router (I am willing to swap it out). The internet plan we are going for is the 200Mbps down 10Mbps up plan cable internet. Even though I'm a gamer its just 2 of us and the max devices online at any time is 2-3. We live in a 3 story approx 2200 sqft house. The only Ethernet wired connection in the house is to my PC. I'm hoping to get the knowledge and recommendations from this awesome community to find a worth while Modem to replace the ISP one and if needed a compatible router. As far as I got was looking at Asus routers and modems as I have had good luck with their gear in the past the only thing to fail on me is an asus rog power supply. I was looking at the CMAX6000 Modem by Asus and wondering if that's worth while since I need a coax connection modem. Thank you for any recommendations!

I've been having some issues with my internet lately, and I assume it might be because I have too many things on my network with not enough channels. Current Network: 1.2gb Down/50mb Up Modem: Netgear Nighthawk CM2000 Router: Netgear Nighthawk R7000 Amount of things on wifi: 34 I've been looking through Netgear, TPlink, Cisco, Asus - there's a plethora of options out there. Then there's the option of Wifi 6 vs Wifi 6e, do I really need 6e vs 6, what's the biggest difference between the two, do I just wait out for wifi 7, are any of my devices actually going to be able to utilize these more advanced networks? Only thing I can find are like "top 10 best" router lists, but am always hesitant to put stock in those.

I added some new computers to my home network and trashed some others, so I was editing my static DHCP table. I forget what reason I restarted my router but it no longer communicates to the modem. I've had Bell 5G wireless internet for a couple years and its pretty good compared to my alternatives. It came with a crappy Bell home hub 2000 that has crap wifi and extremly basic interface. I wanted to have my own router and just the modem. I poked around in the modem and its basic as well but has info that says " IP passthrough host MAC 54:64:D9:2F:A4:D7 " witch is Sagemcom Broadband (HH2000). I told my router to clone that MAC and left it on DHCP and it worked for the past few years till today. nothing I have tried from factory resetting or firmware downgrading has worked. Am I missing something? I know running the home hub 'works' but I just dont want an extra thing in the hops using power, not to mention 3 networks I forgot to mention that I factory reset the Home hub too and it just workes as is without any user ID or password for internet only MAC. Also when it was running as I wanted without the HH in the mix, my router displayed my public IP as 'gateway', this correctly corosplonds to what DHCP says in the modem "As IP passthrough is enabled, DHCP must be enabled. When WWAN is in connected state, WWAN IP address is assigned in DHCP responses to the LAN device." If I reset my modem my router recieves DHCP ip's from my modem but quickly become invalid, also the gateway never becomes my Public IP, only 192.168.3.1 (modem)

I dont know what am I missing here. I have some EZVIZ cheap security cameras, they do work fine and I can access the RTSP Stream while being on my local network without any problem from any Android app or VLC. Since a couple of weeks ago my ISP provided me a public/static IP address. I can now open ports at my will on my TP-Link Archer C80 router without any problem. I wanted to access the RTSP stream of my cameras from outside of my network cause RTSP apps are just faster to open compared to the native EZVIZ app. The URL follows this format for local access: rtsp://admin:[password]@192.168.0.X:554/H.264 I thought I just needed to replace the local ip and the port that I opened for that camera (which is correctly forwarded on my router (External 554 -> Internal 554 to the corresponded IP) rtsp://admin:[password]@[mypublicip]:554/H.264 but it doesnt work. Can someone point where am I failing at? TIA

hi, I have a 150mbps internet connection. I'm using my ISP router. When I for example have 3 tabs open in Brave and Open the Epic Games Store app. The internet stops working. I'll have to restart my router. The router is on the latest firmware at least that is what my service provider tells me. Is the router the culprit here ? I'm from India and I use BSNL

Hi folks I got a Netgear Nighthawk RAX120 and I've been spending the last day getting it integrated into my setup. However, it seems to have a glaring omission - my previous router (a crappy little Fritz Box provided by my ISP) was able to set a schedule for the Guest wireless network, which is how my daughter's internet access is controlled in terms of available times, but the Nighthawk - a substantially bigger, better and more expensive router - seems to lack this basic functionality, unless I'm just not looking in the right place? I can find a setting for scheduling the entire wireless (which isn't helpful, as I need it for the other times), or a setting to allow guest access to disconnect after (x) minutes, but no specific scheduling. I take it my only real option here is to hook up the old router as an access point for her and keep the schedule active on that, rather than just being able to use the new one. Anyone super-familiar with this router and know if I'm just missing something? It seems such a glaring omission, and so frustrating considering the value of the damn thing.

A quick search on YouTube and browse of the forums makes me think that LTT should do a new build your own firewall tutorial all things Sophos XG Home specifically. The upload of PfSense / OpnSense is great, but a dedicated upload from start to finish for XG Home would take it to another level. I'm no security engineer/expert however I'm tinkering with XG Home. Having Linus showcase XG Home would encourage loads of others to get on board and bring enterprise grade firewalling to the home, encouraging younger viewers to become interested in security. The fact it is free for home users, even with limited hardware specs, it's more than capable for 1Gbps WAN users with all the features turned on. I'm using a SFF PC with a LP 4 port card from eBay. The machine has a 6400 and 4GB memory. I've managed to LAG all the card's ports for LAN use and the board's port for WAN. There are a ton of features that open source do not come with as standard (although you can always add a plug-in) but even just covering the basics in a full upload from LTT showing how to configure DNS, change LAN IP range, etc would be epic. The one thing I'm personally struggling with is UPnP for basic use such as PlayStation, PC applications such as Plex. You have to manually apply rules to make specific applications to run without problems. As I said, I'm not a network guy so this I struggle with compared to a plug-in you can get using alternatives.

So pretty soon I'd like to get a new router. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions! Some things I'm looking for: $200 (USD) max Has a pretty big range for things like ring doorbell Can handle multiple devices Good for gaming My knowledge of networking is pretty low, so any suggestions are welcome! My current router is like a $50 Netgear that I've had for 5+ years at this point, and it constantly disconnects randomly for no reason I know of. Also idk if a "gaming" router is better than a normal one, or just a way to make more money on it. I would like to keep it under $200 if possible, but I'm not against suggestions higher than that.

Budget (including currency): $0-$100 cad per card excluding transceivers Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: proxmox virtualizing Pfsense and Pihole OR bare metal Pfsense with Pihole running on my nas Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I originally planned a network upgrade using a few Intel x540 NICs in my rigs but after doing some research on the supermicro x10slh-n6-st031, my all in one solution (router/firewall/switch), I found out that I would be hard limiting my wan and lan connections with the x540 chipset (1gbe/10gbe, no in between). Im not looking for a full blown pc build but I am looking for some multi gigabit (1gbe/2.5gbe/5gbe/10gbe) NIC recommendations that's compatible with Pfsense, unraid and windows. I only need 1 dual port for my host machine and 2 single port NICs for my PC and Nas.

So, I have an old PC and a lousy router. A good combo for potentially better internet speeds I hear. PC specs: i5-9600k ASRock Z390M Pro4 LGA 1151 (300 series) Intel Z390 Lots of extra DDR4 RAM around A few extra SSDs While I would still need a router for at least an access point, I may just use my existing router until I buy something new for a WiFi signal. The main question then is whether this hardware would be sufficient enough to run pfsense. Not necessarily spec wise but whether it is compatible or not. I would plan on getting some sort of Intel networking card for more ethernet ports but until then, I'd really just like a connection that doesn't give out as much. Any thoughts? I am open to literally all options.

So every few weeks the network gets so slow, like from 40Mbps Download to 2-3Mbps Download and Upload is usually the same as it has been maybe a about 1 Mbps slower and High ping an Jitter. We switched the DSL cable and even the router but the issue keeps happenning.. After restart the issue goes away for a few days or week but it returns.. I am trying to narrow the issue as much as possible its a bit hard to diagnose.. Also good to say that through out the week only the older computer serving as nas is active the two are powered off and only wifi is being used pretty much. My potentional issues: The DSL cable is run right next to power cable - It has been like this for a few years and never has been an problem until a year back Im running an pihole (meaning all DNS trafic goes through that) on a bit older computer (serving also as NAS) but its ethernet does have 1Gbps and it has not been throtteling in any way i belive. ISP - The ISP has been here two times, they said nothign was wrong changes the cable an modified an config on their side.. Helped a bit.. Network layout: The router has only one ethernet connector in use. The cable goes through the house to room with an 2Gbps capeable switch from there to three computer. The Wifi is serving around 5-6 clients.. PS: When the speed are low the admin ui is still saying that it detects the correct speeds on the DSL cable.

Do i need the Deco run first to the modem or can i do modem to switch then deco's? Also do the decos run in router mode or access point mode ? When 10gig arrive in a month i want to run the mesh system every unit full speed but they ussually have only 1 port high speed others 1gig, the 10gig modem from isp will have only 1 10gig port to use and i want to run single 10gig cables from switch. Do i get a speed reduction between the modes also ? The firewall stuff i dont wanna control it from decos, modem is good enough i think

Hello all, Our home network has ~10 Wired devices connected to our att router with a switch and more than 20 wireless connected to the router/ap. Our router (eero pro) is also connected to the modem (used to be through a switch). My questions, does connecting devices to the modem pose a security issue? I just made a change, instead of modem -> switch -> router Its Modem -> router -> switch. With this change, the router says gigabit to the switch but 100mbs to the router wheras with the original config it was gigabit. It may be a short lived issue, but the network speeds(wifi) are slower than normal (20mbs vs 50mbs) and pinging the modem and router reveals an average of 100ms and 103ms RTT respectively. Is this to be expected? Any insight or advice would be much appreciated.

Is it just me or is TP Link as a brand severely underrated? From their Switches, to their CCTV Cameras, to their Wifi Mesh Pods, they seem to get a bad name for some reason Can anyone spread some light as to why? I've used netgear, linksys and TP link stuff in my home before, the TP Link stuff has smoked them both, from a price point, to a features point and a quality point

Hello. I recently made a couple changes to my home network and since then, I've been having weird behavior in online games. I have regular ping and no issues for several minutes but then suffer from momentary disconnects and ping spikes for 10-15 seconds before going back to normal. This is currently happening on my desktop PC. So far this has happened to me in League of Legends and Apex legends. The changes I made to my network is that I installed a raspberry pi with an ethernet cable and set it up as a DNS with Pi-Hole however I had to select the DNS address manually on each device since my ISP router does not allow me to change the DNS network wide. The other change I made is that I hooked up a 5 port network switch for my xbox and nintendo switch, since I ran out of ethernet ports when I hooked up my raspi. So right now my home network looks something like this: ISP Router (Huawei HG8145V5) --Network Switch ---Xbox Series S ---Nintendo Switch --Raspberry pi --Desktop PC 1 --Desktop PC 2 I had to disable IPV6 on both desktop PCs since it was causing my raspberry pi DNS to be bypassed since they were defaulting to using the IPV6 DNS from my ISP since they have locked me out from changing those settings on my router configuration. I have several devices connected via WiFi but the same issues still happen even with most of them disconnected so I don't think that's the issue.} Speed test does not show any reduction in latency or speed since I made those changes. According to my research, pi-hole should not be the source of the issue since the DNS is only used once when establishing the connection to the game servers so I'm kinda lost. Any help is appreciated. My system Specs: Windows 10 Pro 19045 64 Bit B660 GAMING X AX DDR4 (BIOS F21) Intel i5-12600KF 32 GB 3200 MHz Nvidia RTX 3060 Cooler Master MasterWatt 650W

1000 Mbit is = to 1 Gbps, correct? My motherboard's Ethernet max is 1 gigabit, So if I upgrade my ISP service to 1 Gbps it will never allow those bumps above 1 GB similar to those bumps I get with my 300 Mbps service where it will go to 350 or 400 Mbps sometimes. So what can be done? BTW, to go from 300 Mbps to 1 Gbps will cost $10 more per month.

I just moved in to my new home that has a ethernet cable box that goes into all the rooms. The cables seem to be CAT7a, thats what I can read on them(category 7a) When I plug a Cat5e cable from my router into the Cat7a box and then another Cat5e in each of the rooms, my connection goes down to 100/50 mbps, but if I run a cable from my router (Cat5e) directly to my PC then I get 1000/100 mbps which is what I'm supposed to get. I don't know if I need to use shielded cables or if it will make a ground loop? I'm not really that familiar with internet cables. Any and all help is appreciated, thank you

Typing the default gateway address into a browser always returns some kind of error... tried multiple browsers and multiple devices, it's a cheap Zyxel router. Anyone have any ideas why?

Have a zyxel router and tried to put into bridge mode to try a new router. Did not work and could not get back to original router settings to turn bridge mode off. Reset router and now the internet light on it is red. Have no idea why, was working fine before, but now I don't have internet. I have no idea why it won't work anymore. Tried to call my isp help desk, but they couldn't do anything and is forwarding me to business department for some reason. Can anyone help me? I'd rather not have internet for a couple days
