I have a Verizon Galaxy s4 phone (model # SCH-I545) and recently Verizon officially rolled out the Android 5.0.1 update to the S4, and if I go to software update it, the first "preparation" update installs just fine, but when it comes to the actual OS, when installing, everything seems fine for a few minutes and then the Android guy is laying down with an error message, and once the phone reboots it says "no changes have been made". So I'm trying to figure out how to do something I should of done long ago: root my phone. I've tried Towelroot, but it just pops up with a message saying this device is not supported. So I need someone to walk me through how to Root my phone and manually install Android 5.0 on it, even if it's a guide here on the forums, a link to a website who's steps actually work, or a Skype call, any help is appreciated. Also side note: Verizon is an absolute fail of a company, and I'm probably switching when my contract is up.

Let's think about this... Android phones typically have better specs than IOS devices, right? But IOS doesn't crash as easily or receive viruses as easily as Android. Now, you might argue IOS doesn't have an actual accessible file system. You can't even download anything onto IOS devices except for images and restricted applications. But jail-broken IOS devices offer file storage equivalent to that of Android... If only we could somehow get IOS to run on Android smartphones. Wouldn't that be great? But we should be able to do it. Even though Android and IOS phones have very different hardware, they're still based off the same code! Think about it... Android is just based on a Linux distro. But what does this mean? Linux is based on Unix! "So what?" you might say. Well, IOS runs a Unix variant! In theory, since they're running the same base system, you should be able to get both platforms operating on each other. Just like OS X and Windows can be run on each other, IOS and Android can run on each other. Why can't we do it? Couldn't we Jailbreak an iPhone and copy its contents onto a rooted Droid? "But, Czex, you need the IOS kernel and drivers to do that!" That's why we'd use a jail-broken iPhone. We could force an Android device to run IOS! All we need to do is to figure out how... Any and all help and advice on the matter is appreciated. Thank you!

Hello, I'm asking the question that android enthusiasts hate to answer cause of the difficulty of the situation... How do you root the htc one m8?
-
Just a quick question, why is the htc one m8 so hard to root? I just finished rooting it with a long and hard (lol) process that was much harder than any of my previous android phones to root. A lot of the other phones had software that I could use (3rd party) that would do the process for me!

hello, I know that the following problem isn't related to Computers at all... I have a LG Optimus 4x HD (p880) and I've rooted it last year, by following this tutorial: Since then it became slower and slower, despite I was uninstalling apps. Than, when I had uninstalled nearly all not preinstalled apps, I had enough. So I decided to do a factory reset. One or two days after I did the factory reset I realised that the phone was as slow as before if not slower. The only solution, I thought, was installing a custom ROM after a disk-wipe. I found a tutorial on the web, that told me that I need a custom recovery in order to install the custom ROM. And here all the problems began: I first tried to install the clockworkmod-recovery (following this tutorial: http://trueandroid.com/how-to-install-custom-recovery-in-most-android-devices/). when I rebooted it and entered the recovery (Power+VolumeDown), following message popped up: [LGE_SECURITY] ERROR: boot image signature [LGE_SECURITY] 5 seconds after Power is turned off for Battery saving Then I tried to install the TWRP-recovery, same scenario. By the way this message shows also up if I try to get in the menu(Power+VolumeUp). Today a colleague tried to fix this, but the result was a phone that is stuck at the boot animation: I turned the phone on about 30 min ago and it's still booting. I can't get into the recovery due to the before mentioned problem. I know that it's my fault. I would be very glad if someone could help me or give me some advice

Hi, So I'm getting the G3 tomorrow and I wish to be prepared to root and install a custom rom (really thinking about cyanogenmod). I am getting the sprint US version (LS990). I am new to the whole smartphone game so any help is very appreciated. First, how should I go about rooting it. And second what is the deal with cyanogenmod 12 and is our supported for my phone and how do I install it and what is it and stuff. Plus what are some recommended apps, recommended roms, keyboards, cool 1440p backgrounds, camera apps(that support raw), and other things that you think I should get or need. Thanks do much for all help. (Also I already read the how to root and rom plus faqs but it wasn't so specific or helpful for me)

Trouble Overclocking Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337)
AlexWalters08 posted a topic in Phones and Tablets
Hello guys! (and gals), This is my first post on this website, and I am very excited to become a part of this community. My friend Kevin, who you may know as KHerm, showed me this website, and Linus' awesome videos! I have watched many of his videos and so far have enjoyed every single one, but lets get to the point of this post. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337) on AT&T and I recently rooted it. This is the first time I have ever rooted an Android phone so I am very new to this. I was hoping to get a bit more performance out of my Galaxy S4, so I wanted to overclock it to around 2.1GHZ (If you think that is too much, or if you think I can go higher let me know. Although I want it to stay relatively stable). I tried watching a few youtube videos, reading a few articles, along with trying a few thing out, but I had no luck. Just to let you know I am rooted and I have SuperSU. I use Root Checker to verify my root. Since I am still having trouble with the overclocking, I came here to see if you guys had any tips or ideas for me to try! Thanks! - Alex -
Hi guys So I recently installed a nightly version of CM12 on my Nexus 5. As it didn't even have a Play Store or anything, I decided to reinstall a factory image of Lollipop. I went to the ClockworkMod Recovery, wiped the storage and now it my phone won't show up in the Windows Explorer. (I have the latest ADB Drivers installed though, and it is recognized in the Devicemanager) The phone also doesn't boot properly, it shows the Google logo for some seconds and then just takes me straight to the ClockworkMod Recovery. Now I'm not sure if I bricked it or anything, or if I just deleted the OS. I couldn't find any specific help on Google, so You guys are more or less my last hope I apprechiate any kind of help or advise - sorry if my English sounds a bit weird, I'm from Germany. Thanks in advance, Defalt

Hi guys! Today I will be teaching you how to Root, unlock Boot Loader and finally FLASH your phone to include the Cyanogenmod 12 OS! HOLY SHIT <------------- I see you writing that comment, or maybe not, but before you start screaming that it's impossible that CM 12 could have been released for a low end phone like this, I will say.... THIS IS WORKING! _________________________________________________________________________ Now, why am I doing this? I got a Xperia GO few days aGO (get it?) and I went to tinker with it and found that installation of CM 12 is possible and that indeed, it will make your phone fly. Now I was stuck on the 4.0 Build Ice Cream Sandwich which sucks so much on this phone, and wanted to change it. I will guide you step by step on how to install CM 12 on the GO... Now, this procedure may or may not work with other phones, but the firmware I will be flashing my phone with is specifically built for the GO model... Just go to Google and find an another tutorial depending on what phone you get, I found that this phone is quite popular, so I decided to do something good for teh sake of LTT. To find out what is CyanogenMod go to: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/About _________________________________________________________________________ 1. Preparation and before we start For this install you will need a handy computer, USB to USB mini cable included with your phone, drivers for establishing a connection with your phone on the PC, and a Mini SD memory Card (or whatever external interface of memory your phone supports)... This tutorial will also show you how to root and unlock the boot loader on your device, which will void your warranty. BEFORE YOU EVEN START FULLY CHARGE THE DEVICE. DO AT YOUR OWN RISK, I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR DEVICE _________________________________________________________________________ 2. Rooting your device You got that? Okay. Detailed steps for this part of the install are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/go-development/how-to-root-xperia-t2336242 I will sum it up for you Before you start: - make sure u have installed ADB drivers for ur device - enable "USB DEBUGGING" from (Menu\Settings\Applications\Development) - enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES" from (Menu\Settings\Applications) - connect USB cable to PHONE and then connect to PC using a mentioned cable On the link ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ above the download link for the DooMlord's Easy Rooting Toolkit V14 is included Download it. Now: - Extract Easy rooting toolkit on pc. - Connect your phone to pc. - Open Runme.bat - Wait until finished - Reboot your phone then your PC. YOU SHOULD BE ROOTED ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3. Unlock your BOOT LOADER This is different for every device itself, so please look at the video for further instructions. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 4. INSTALL Clockwork Mod Recovery. This will help you easily install CM 12 on your Xperia GO. Go to this link and download the files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/go-development/cwm-cwm-recovery-6-0-1-2-locked-t2020891 Sum up: - Download the zip package - Extract the folder - Connect your phone to the pc with USB debugging - Click on install.bat - Wait 'till it's done, close. 5. We're getting close! Download the ROM from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/go-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-0-t3013681 Download Google Apps files from the same link. Transfer them to an SD card you acquired earlier using a connected USB cable. Successfully transferred? Good. Switch of your Xperia phone. When the phone turns on, and when it comes to an SONY logo keep holding the volume down (-) button until you get into Clockwork Mod recovery. Choose "wipe data/ factory reset" option then erase the cache with an other option listed called "wipe cache partition". Also erase dalvik cache by going to advanced and scrolling down until you see it. Chose option "install ZIP from SD card" and choose option "Choose zip from SD card", then navigate firstly to the CM 12 Download and wait until installed, then navigate to the GApps after CM 12 has been installed. 6. Enjoy! Thanks for viewing tutorial, if it helped please share it, if you need any help please post a comment or PM me!

So ive been really lazy and havent taken any action even though lollipop is available for my phone (sprint lg g3 (ls990)) but since im rooted I cant take the OTA (i think.). So I'm relatively new to the android game and to my knowledge I have to flash the OTA. I have TWRP recovery installed so thats not a problem, and I'm fully rooted. I was looking around and I think I found what I need. I think I just download this zip and flash it with TWRP and reboot and bam I'm on lollipop but I want to make sure that I'm not going to screw something up and brick the hell out of my phone. As of now I'm on 4.4.2 on the ZV4. Here is the link to the .zip ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/development/stockzv8lodexed-t3030795 Can I flash straight into this ZV8 lollipop or do I have to go to zv6 first? It mentions something about the modem not being backwards compatible...? This will keep root for me? I will lose my stuff right? TL;DR: rooted ls990 with zv4 - can i flash the zip on the link above with twrp?

Recently my galaxy s4's amoled screen broke so the entire screen is completely dead. All of my photos and stuff was on the SD card but there are a few things in the internal storage that I'd like to get as well. The problem is the phone had a swipe lock screen and I have no idea how to unlock it. If it isn't possible to, then that's fine. Any help is appreciated, thanks. Details: Rooted Custom Recovery: TWRP 2.7 OS: 5.0.1 GPE ROM (from XDA not actual GPE) Device: Canadian GS4 I337m

Does anyone know of any good roms (can be stock or sense) for the One M8 which are actually good with decent features and up to date
-
Hello! I've posted several posts on XDA forums with absolutely no response. Maybe my wording is complicated so please bear with me. I currently have an LG G3 from carrier US Cellular. Running it's stock ROM, Android 4.4, basically brand new. I want to install CM12 and would like to know if I even can. I understand the model number is different and I have absolutely no idea what that means to tell you the truth. I'm not a phone expert, somewhat new to Android, and definitely new to rooting and installing ROMs. I absolutely hate LG's skin and it's ruining the experience of having this beautiful phone. A TL;DR if needed Phone: LG G3 Carrier: US Cellular (US990) Can I install CM12? I appreciate ANY feedback/help.

This is a follow-up to a previous post I made asking suggestions for ROMs for my old Note 2. The most popular ROMs were Cyanogenmod and Paranoid Android and since I'm not completely familiar with what they offer on top of stock android I decided to make this post. Firstly - I'm not trying to start a ROM war on which one is "better" or anything. My main questions are: What features do the ROM you use offer that you make use of regularly? How stable is the experience? As the Note 2 is a legacy device, how promptly do they (legacy devices) get updates? PA is sorta appealing to me more at the moment since from what I've read they try to stick to the stock android theme which appeals to me but on the previous thread someone said doing stuff on it was comparatively more complicated than CM which makes me hesitate. Oh and if someone could link me to a good beginner's guide to installing either of these ROMs it'd be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So recently I restored my old Note II to factory settings and my god was it a performance boost. People go on about how TouchWiz slows down the phone and that may be true but the launcher was completely unaffected - so damn smooth. Well anyway, I decided I didn't care if I bricked the thing while trying to load a custom ROM since my main driver atm is a MotoG so that's why I'm here looking for ROM suggestions. I'm looking essentially for these features: Near stock android like performance The developer is prompt about updating to the latest version of android Following from this I'd like for updates to be done over-the-air (I don't know if this is the norm or not when it comes to custom ROMs) rather than having to flash the latest version myself Only additional feature I'm interested in (beyond stock) is being able to customize the UI more freely Since the phone is a Note 2 I'd like to be able to use the S Pen although this is less of a priority compared to the other things So yeah. Just a reminder the phone I'm looking to flash a custom ROM on is the Note 2. CyanogenMod seems to be the most popular but I thought I'd hear some others that may interest me more. Thanks in advance.
