Hi All, So basically, I plan to develop an environment for a college project, and want to make it into a VR experience. I've had experience with Google Daydream and such and want to move into the HTC and Oculus world. Which do you think is better? Oculus Rift or HTC Vive? I plan to build the world in Unity. I know its pretty simple to set it up in Unity (cameras and controls), but I'm not 100% sure quality wise which is better? I'm not to crazy about the controllers on the Oculus Rift.. They're kind of weird.. But in any case, has anybody had any experience with either? Which is better? Cheers, Steve

So since the latest update, when i plug my link cable into my quest it no longer asks me if i want to allow my pc to access the quest. It used to be that it would ask if you wanted to enable the oculus link beta first and then if you chose "deny" it would ask about allowing the pc to connect. It no longer does this and i cant find anything on how to connect it to my PC to transfer files. My quest is up to date, my oculus app on my pc is up to date, the cable is working as i can play games through the link. Anyone know how to connect it as a drive since the update?

I was wondering if it is a good idea to buy a rift (or maybe a vive) this black friday? Would there be a good deal on eather headset and is there going to be another PC rift (not standalone) headset any time soon? Thanks in advance for the responses.

Hellow everyone i am trying to get into vr, and i was wondering should i get teh oculus rift, or the htc vive or vive pro because the regular vive seems to be out of stock everywhere. I am looking for a very good vr experience with games such as beat saber, minecraft, and war thunder being some of the main games i will be playing.

Wasn't Insomniac a sony exclusive developer? I hope Insomniac bring the same quality of the development to it's vr games as everything else. https://newstechandgaming.blogspot.com/2018/05/insomniac-to-unveil-open-world-oculus.html

I am having a problem where my oculus sensors are working perfectly, but if I plug my t500RS wheel into the front IO of my case one of my sensors starts disconnecting and reconnecting constantly. But my sensor is plugged in to the back of the motherboard. Could this be caused by the USB controller or board cant handle so much throughput at the same time? I remember this happening once before and then a restart fixed it, but trying to troubleshoot whats causing it so I havent done that yet. Also sometimes when I have been using my PC for a few hour and then decide to play VR I only see black in the HMD, or the headset starts disconnecting and reconnecting. also fixed by restart but its a bit annoying. Anyone experienced the same issues? Ive unchecked the box to allow the sensors to go to sleep, Ive tried different USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers..

Hi all, I am currently building a PC and I am planning to get into VR and will most likely get the rift in this year's black Friday I was wondering will a 1060 6gb be enough for VR? I'm not sure what CPU I'll be getting yet as I am waiting for reviews on the new Ryzen 2 CPUs as it's not just going to be for gaming. They have VR ready slapped on everything but is it really capable of running it and will it be a smooth experience? If not then what would you recommend I don't mind Nvidia or AMD and the card would be £350 or less Thanks for the help

So I just got my Rift a few hours ago and have had fun with the Oculus apps but now I want to try SteamVR but it's not recognizing that my Rift is on. I'm getting this error message I've done all the Googling and whatnot. I've tried manually telling SteamVR to use my GTX 1070 through the Nvidia Controller 3D settings. I can't seem to find the program to run SteamVR as admin though. Any help would be great as there are tons of games on Steam that I'd like to get and some I already have that can use VR.

I ordered an oculus rift w/ touch controllers and 2 sensors and am expecting them to arrive today or tomorrow. I am looking for any good free or paid games for oculus, from oculus store, steam, or mods. Touch supported games preferred except racing games are an exception ofcourse . Favorite genres: Racing, stealth, FPS, horror, RPG. Feel free to suggest me anything and tell me your experience with the game. Thanks in advance! - Henrik

So I've decided on getting an Oculus Rift, just have to click "Buy now" on Amazon. I'm wondering what are some good games to get that will help me get every bit of fun out of the headset? I already have Elite: Dangerous (which will be a huge one for me), Subnautica and War Thunder. I play some racing sims like iRacing so I'll try it with that, I'm also looking forward to trying it on Euro Truck Simulator 2. Things I'm looking at getting for it are Star Trek: Bridge Crew and I Expect You To Die. Anything else I should check out? Maybe from the Rift store? Are the games bundled with it any good?

So with a little Christmas cash I’ve decided to treat myself to some VR. My main issue obviously is which headset to get. I’ve heard and read that the Rift is lighter thus more comfortable while the Vive is heavier due to the sensors and whatnot. The Vive has room scale vs the Rifts sitting or standing. In my current room I don’t really have space for moving around in VR but I’d like the option to in the future. The Rift is also a hell of a lot cheaper than the Vive, £350 on Amazon vs £600 at Currys which makes the Rift very attractive. I already have Elite: Dangerous and Subnautica in terms of VR games but I’d like to get Job Simulator and Hotdogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades (which is only available for HTC Vive I know). Any help deciding? Any experience with VR that could help? Should I wait for what the next year brings? I don’t really want to wait because I’ve already been waiting for forever. Thanks!

The Nosulus Rift was thought to be a joke, turned out to be a real product, and some got their first hands on experience as this year's Gamescom 2016. Developed by Ubisoft, the Nosulus Rift is a wearable device just like a VR headset, instead you wear it on your nose, and it emits a scent from its built in cartridge based on the game your playing. Of all the scents out there in the world. At the demo, Ubisoft wanted to show off this amazing product, with a game called South Park: The Fractured But Whole, where the few chosen ones, finally got to know what a virtual fart smells like. http://nosulusrift.ubisoft.com/?lang=en-US http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nosulus-rift-gamesom-south-park,32552.html http://www.polygon.com/2016/8/19/12550744/south-park-fractured-but-whole-nosulus-rift http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/08/23/heres-what-south-parks-fractured-but-whole-smells-like

source: http://blog.ihs.com/oculus-rift-teardown-shows-vr-headset-design-to-be-intricate via: http://www.roadtovr.com/oculus-rift-components-cost-around-200-new-teardown-suggests/ Rift's main board: Rift's sensor PCB: and the estimated bill: the retail price for the Rift is 600$ (including shipping) so, it looks like FaceBook is making quite a huge profit on the Rift normally I wouldn't have a problem, it's a buyers market .. but! they also make money from the software they sell on their store - it would stand to reason that for VR to seriously take off, they could've sold the unit at a lower price, still reserving some profit margin if I recall right, Palmer Luckey originally hinted at a ~400$ price for the Rift, that would've been more in line with the original view of what Oculus Rift supposed to be following that original price, plus a system paired with a RX480 or GTX1060, could've potentially brought VR to mainstream consumer - but they had to get greedy --- here's the deal on why I think FaceBook got greedy - it not because "early adopter's fee" nor is it because of Reasearch and Development (since you know ... allegations that both Carmack and Luckey "stole" tech from their previous employers) consoles .. fucking consoles! both SONY and Microsoft sold this generation of consoles at a loss: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2427757,00.asp they made their profits of the software those didn't had R&D costs? wages to pay? no ?!?! and I'll be darn, they're still around and kicking - SONY sold 40+mil of the darn things (PS4): http://www.ubergizmo.com/2016/04/sony-40m-ps4-sold/ --- speaking of R&D ... what R&D ?! Carmack stands accused by Zenimax for stealing source code when he left for Oculus; there is a Zenimax vs FaceBook suit: http://www.roadtovr.com/facebook-ceo-zuckerberg-to-testify-in-oculus-vs-zenimax-lawsuit/ Luckey himself was accused by his former employee of stealing know-how when he started the Oculus kickstarter: http://venturebeat.com/2016/01/19/oculus-vr-founder-palmer-luckey-must-face-breach-on-contract-lawsuit-judge-rules/

I am looking at getting one the VR headsets and am torn. Barnacles's review of the Vive really swayed me because I loved the idea of walking around my room with the headset but I had really been looking forward to playing Eve: Valkyrie but it won't be coming to Vive. I also like that Vive already has their controllers finished. It's $200 more but I think it might be worth it.

This is just a handy tip that I came up with earlier today as I was trying to solve the problem of not been out to hear what's going on around you whilst in VR. I'm sure that I'm not the first person to have come up with this, but I also haven't seen it suggested anywhere else. What I have read a lot of articles about though, is how it's difficult for people to get your attention whilst you are playing inside a VR headset. Steam does have its "knock knock" feature, but that only works in steam VR and not Oculus. It also assumes at least some understanding on behalf of the person trying to get your attention as well as expecting them to read your screen for instructions. So here's my simple method of doing it: 1. Make you have an external microphone on your computer. There is one built-in to the rift, but it doesn't pick up voices around you as much as it is designed to be a personal microphone and cut out background noise. In my case, I can use the built-in microphone on my Logitech Webcam. 2. In the bottom right hand corner of your toolbar, right click and select recording devices. Select the microphone you wish to use, that gives the best sound pick up of the room around you. Set this as your default device . 3. Now right click on your chosen device and select properties Now click on the list and have at the top of the properties window. 4. Tick the option that says "Listen to this device". Under the drop down menu which says "Playback through this device", select the headphones that you use in your virtual reality headset. I'm not sure what this is called in the HTC Vive as I don't have one. For rift owners, it's a bit simpler; simply select "Headphones (rift audio)". if you are using your own headphones, simply select them as an option. 5. That is pretty much it. Sounds picked up by your microphone will now be played back through the headset or headphones you have selected. This gives you a slightly better idea of your surroundings and may save you from if you jump scares when a family member or friend decides to put their hand on your shoulder to get your attention. One suggestion I would have, is clicking on the levels tab of the microphone properties, and reducing the levels to about 50%. This is personal preference, but to me, this is allowed enough to hear what is going on around you without being distracting. Its only an an idea and meant to help people like myself who don't have a an exclusive place to play games undisturbed. Or if you're simply talking to your friend while he's playing a game. It can help maintain the social element I love so much in gaming. Would love to hear your feedback.

Where would you see the difference of the 1080 and 1070. I currently have only 1080p monitors and an Oculus Rift CV1, but currently I have no issues running on a 970 and a i5 4670k. So I'm wondering where I would see the benefit of spending the extra ~$300 on the 1080 ?

Amazon: http://geni.us/1CQhB NCIX: http://bit.ly/29dujgv There has been a LOT of crap thrown at Oculus lately... Let's go through some of the possible repercussions, and FINALLY check out the consumer version Rift.

So I am still waiting for my Oculus Rift pre-order. I know the headset is amazing (tried it last year at E3) but I am concerned about the motion controllers and the attitude of closed ecosystem from Oculus. The initial reviews for Touch seem promising. Will it allow for whole room VR like the Vive? I have a room set aside in my house just waiting for VR! I am not very interested in sitting in a chair playing VR games on an XBOX controller. But I also definitely prefer the Rift headset over the Vive. I am torn whether I should cancel my Oculus order and wait for Touch to see how it looks, keep the order and enjoy it with the dumb controller, or cancel and go with Vive. thoughts? experiences?

source: http://motherboard.vice.com/read/new-oculus-drm-cross-platform Read the source for the full article, I won't quote it since it's rather large. The short of it is, that Oculus implemented a DRM into home that lets games bought on Oculus Home only start when a Rift is connected. The official reason is to battle software piracy, which is complete nonsense. The only real thing it does is it disables ReVive to force people to buy into their hardware/software ecosystem. Interesting are those quotes from Palmer Luckey himself: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/3vl7qe/palmer_luckey_on_twitterfun_fact_nintendo_doesnt/cxr6rid and https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/3vl7qe/palmer_luckey_on_twitterfun_fact_nintendo_doesnt/cxr99zd Do you guys still support Oculus?

So I have a Rift preordered but after reading so much about the Vive I'm kind of on the fence. For anyone that currently owns a Rift or a Vive can you give me your thoughts on it so far? I don't see myself using the room scale stuff a whole lot, which is why I opted for the Rift in the first place. With that said, I think the Vive room scale would be great for when I have friends over. I think most of the time I will be using it from a seated position with the goal to get a more immersive experience than a traditional monitor. Cost is not an issue and if I get Rift I will likely get the Oculus Touch once they are out. I can't really justify buying both although that is a possibility as I have a theater room and a spare gaming rig I could setup the Vive in. So what are your thoughts/experiences with the two major VR platforms so far?

source: http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?43740-Oculus-Rift-CV1-Discussion&p=1260029&viewfull=1#post1260029 the game director for Project Cars, Stephen Viljoen, had this to say when talking about incompatibility between the STEAM and Oculus stores STEAM is pretty much hardware agnostic (VR) and will let you access it with any HMD other than HTC Vive; whereas, Oculus Sore works exclusively with the Rift so, if two friends have one Rift and one Vive they can start a versus match on STEAM, but they can't do so with a Oculus store game and this is how "console wars" made it to the PC ... what a shame as time passes, the rift will grow as developers will be forced to support a single platform via exclusive deals or just financial reasons due to their prices, owning both HMD systems is out of the question for a lot of people and they probably will settle with the most "open" one and this will create yet another problem, since the player base will be so small and divided, most developers won't even develop a VR game ps: if I recall right, SONY have stated that "Morpheus" would work (some day) on PC - that's another point for STEAM
