Hi everyone, I recently dug up an old Plextor 128gb SSD ( oh boy I got this when it first came out for about 200$ hehe) and was going to use it to revive an aging laptop that I have. I was going to wipe it but I didn't know how to go about it, since it was used in a Windows 7 system back in 2012. I loaded it up and noticed that it still has it's MBR. I read before that drives with old MBRs could inhibit itself from reinstalling fresh, and was wondering how I could install Windows 10? Any help is greatly appreciated! Here is a picture of said drive Disk0 being my current boot drive

I am resetting a Dell Vostro laptop running Windows 10 as it was failing to do the latest updates. It was still on 1607. However it is in the setup stage asking for Country, Language, Keyboard, Timezone and a bunch of privacy stuff. I enter all my preferences, then it will go to a please wait screen, then it reboots, and then starts all over again... It won't re-install Windows

I'm about to sell my iPhone 6S as I'm getting a Samsung S8 in a few days, and it's a growing concern of mine to completely wipe my Apple iCloud data from existence. What crucial steps should I take to ensure my iPhone is securely wiped before it gets a new owner? Note: This iPhone 6S is/was my only Apple product so the grand objective here is to completely leave the Apple ecosystem.

"Reset" Windows 10 while keeping all programs and files(but not drivers)?
Guest posted a topic in Windows
Hi, I have been using my pc for a year now, and normally I would reinstall windows after a year, but I don't want to this time. I would reset it to get rid of things I may have messed up like some registry things or a windows setting(like my taskbar which is totally messed up ) So is there a way to keep all my programs and files.(only exe installer apps, no store apps, and files in my user directory, desktop) And then have it reset the rest, like drivers, windows registry part that stores windows settings, windows directory, taskbar settings and such. Is that possible? Thanks! -
Hi, I want to reinstall my AMD vega 11 graphics driver. This driver has been crashing everytime i play games and i read that resetting windows might fix the problem. So my question is, does selecting 'remove everything' under 'reset this pc' options, will it give me a completely fresh start of windows? Will there be no residuary files left such as registry? Also, will doing this wipe my D: drive also? (Installed win 10 in ssd and kept all my games and stuff in D: drive)

Hello, My computer has been shutting down at random points when i'm gaming for the past 4 months. I play mostly overwatch and it runs for hours sometimes and sometimes minutes, then a random crash usually happens about every day. I don't think that heat is the issue because the components seem to be cooled enough. I have removed overclock and then put it back on and no difference has been noticeable. I thought it might be the psu, but I spoke with corsair and they don't believe it is, although I haven't sent it in. Also everytime my computer shuts off, I have to turn off the power supply with the on/off switch and wait for the lights on the computer to die. Then I have to wait about a minute before I turn back on the power supply and turn on the computer. Once I hit the case power button, the computer boots up for about 2 seconds, shuts down, and then starts a normal boot up. This happens every time my computer shuts down. The event viewer shows issue 41 every time my computer crashes, with some other errors and warnings as well. I see eventID like 10016 and 8233 occur often, not sure if those are related. Overclock is set at xmp, DRAM: 3000mhz, I think cpu is 4100 and cache is 4200. I don't really know how to completely remove it, but I don't think it is the issue. Screenshots show my computer at idle and at load when gaming (overwatch). Thank you for any feedback/help! It seems that every time windows 10 decides to automatically reset and update my PC my start tiles get restored to default. The first time this happened, I began recreating all the shortcuts though it saved them as (1) meaning there's still a save state of them somewhere... Does anyone know how to prevent Windows from resetting my start tiles each time? And is there a way to restore my preference?

Is there anything I need to know before clean resetting Windows 10? I heard that you need to have your Windows licence linked with a Microsoft account before resetting or it will say that you are on a unlicensed copy of Windows after the install? i.e. you can't reset whilst on a local account

I want a clean install of windows 10, from what I've seen i can go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Recovery -> Reset this PC, but does it remove files from all drives/partitions? If so, how can I reset windows on only one partition? I have windows installed on a separate partition on my ssd, and I have a separate hard drive that I don't want to reset.

Ok, so I have some nasty virus that no antivirus can get rid of that I have tried. It's a browser hijacker and there might be others. I can't reinstall windows from a USB, tried many times (see my post below). Every time I open the settings and press reset, it just doesn't do anything. I restarted my pc in safe mode and tried it, I did the thing where you hold shift and restart it, and it just ignored the shift and restarted normally instead of bringing up the troubleshooting menu. I have no Idea how to fix this, please help.

Hi, Does anyone know how, if possible, to connect my reset switch to be an RGB controller? I don't need any fancy effects, just to switch between solid colors. I have Thermaltake Riings RGB inside a Define Mini C. Thanks in advance!

First my specs: CPU: Intel i7 8700K Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z370-F GPU: Asus STRIX GTX1080 TI RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 3200mhz PSU: Corsair AX1200W SSD: Corsair Force Series LS 240GB HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB + 2TB CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i water cooler OS: Windows 10 64 bit Backstory: Ok, so I just got my brand new GTX1080TI, i7 8700k, Z370 board and DDR4 RAM, and was super pumped to get this installed in my computer. I hooked the parts up, fired up the computer and everything worked fine. When I checked out the BIOS, Asus had this built in overclocking app, and it recommended that I let it turn up the computer considering my specs. I was going to try and overclock anyways, so I thought why not try this first, and enabled it. Later on i found out that the app turned my cpu to a whopping 5ghz, and thermal throttling must have been the reason I didn't get that great fps while I was gaming (PUBG). So I turned off the overclocking app to restore my settings back to normal. Just to check that all was good, I decided to try a round of Prime95. After I started it, I went into BSOD hell. My computer wouldn't boot, and I got many types of Blue Screen errors: WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR, CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (in order, i got WHEA most often). So I thought, oh it must be because the overclock somehow set itself to some crazy values. But after resetting the BIOS and CMOS, my computer still wouldn't boot or not-freeze for longer than some minutes. Getting worried for my CPU, I just had time to run the the Intel Diagnostics Tool before the computer froze, and it turned out all-green. The next thing I did was to fresh install windows because I haven't done it yet, even after chaning motherboard and CPU. So I copied my files from my SSD, formatted it on another computer and made a bootable installation USB drive from a windows 10 ISO image. But now that I was going to install windows 10, the installer freezes even though I have unplugged every other disk except the SSD and the USB-drive. Now I do not what to do. Can you guys please help me? In summary what is wrong: After major changes to my hardware, I got a lot of bluescreens on my computer after launching prime 95. Sometimes I got the bluescreens before the login menu, sometimes 10min+ after I logged in. Sometimes I got bluescreens, sometimes it only freezes. Now I have uninstalled windows from my computer and the installer freezes when I try to reinstall it from a USB drive, even though nothing is plugged into my computer (no GPU, no extra drives, no USB devices) What I have tried, before and after uninstalling windows: - Updating the BIOS - Udating Chipset drivers - Updating SATA drivers - Resetting BIOS and CMOS (Even tried taking out the battery. The clock in the BIOS does not reset though, why is that?) - Unplugging everything from the computer (GPU, USBs and drives) - Physical check of the hardware - Make sure the CPU cooler is installed correctly and running - Checking CPU voltage and temps - Increasing CPU voltage - Booting in safe mode and checking device manager for bad drivers And probably some more during the 10+ hours I have been trying to fix this. I really hope you guys might know what is wrong, I'm getting desperate. Update: I managed to install windows to my SSD. I got all the way to the menu where you first select language and region, but then it froze and I got the WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR bsod. When I tried to start it up again, I got a blue screen again, this time saying DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. The problem persists...

Installing program, PC freezes, Disk Locked, Unable to Reset
Nonco posted a topic in Troubleshooting
My sister has had an issue with her desktop recently. She was installing something onto her storage HDD (not her primary OS SSD), when her PC froze up, then she checked her task manager to see 100% disk usage. Then everything stopped, so she restarted her PC. Now it struggles to POST and when it does it takes it into diagnose, and gives troubleshooting menu. She does not have a backup. But doesnt care if she loses everything. When trying to reset or fix any issues it says it cant. When resetting, keeping files option says the drive is locked, and when just clean reset losing everything it says theres a problem resetting your PC. What can I do from here?- 7 replies

I have a couple minor issues regarding my desktop, and maybe you can help me with those. The first one are my destop icons restting and being lined up randomly at the left side (presumably after a game changes graphic settings?). Is there a way to stop this? Secondly: I have a weird bug where the bottom icon row is not entirely usable. (Some) Icons will go in the left and rightmost position and into some in the middle of the screen, but every other position will stay blank, where as some icons will not go into the bottom row at all. Does anybody know what could cause that? The last one is the horizontal icon spacing. The vertical spacing is fine should I find a solution to problem number two, but horizontally there is about half an icon of space left. I therefore wanted to change the icon spacing so that I can either put a full icon there or increase teh distance to have the same amount of icons as I do now but with the last one being at the edge of the screen. I found the folder with the IconSpacing/VerticalIconSpacing values in regedit and tried changing them, but nothing seemes to change, no matter which value I chose. Did I miss something? Thank you for your answers.

Hi everyone, My PC has been acting strange since I upgraded to Windows 10. To be more specific, my RAM randomly spikes up to 99% use and slows down, and sometimes when I shut down my PC, it just hangs at a black screen and never turns off. I was wondering if resetting my PC will solve these problems? Ah, and what exactly is a reset in Windows 10? Will I lose all my programs and steam games? Any help I can get is greatly appreciated!

A month or two back i decided to upgrade from windows 7 to 10. After upgrading i realised that the upgrade has caused my SSD to not only be my boot drive but also be used as my storage device, i have since been trying to reset windows using the reset feature but whenever i try to reset it tells me that it was unable to make any changes. Also, everytime i boot up, it tries to update windows but cant implement the changes (i assume this is due to lack of memory on my SSD because it stuffed to the brim). How can i reset windows 10 aswell as ensure the storage goes to my HDD and the OS goes on the SSD? Could the update be stopping me from resetting? What did i do wrong the first time i updated as to not make the same mistake again? Thanks for any help, eddiec1

Odd question.. Repairing an old laptop for a neighbour, wanted to install windows 7 to give it a fresh new look. There seems to be a BIOS password that I can't guess or reset. I only wanted to change the boot order, and the one time boot menu won't boot from disk. It's a very old Dell Latitude D430 (yes, extremely old I know). Anybody have any ideas? Cheers Riley

My little brother, well not that little, hard resets my PC 10 to 20 times a day when I'm gaming or just browsing the internet. Just because he knows that it annoys me a lot. Now here's the question: DOES HARD RESETTING 10 TIMES A DAY CAN BREAK SOMETHING (OS or HARDWARE) Also I need to know, is there a way to disable the reset button?

Hi! I rooted my Acer Iconia b1-750 a while back, but for some reason the gapps don't work anymore. I've tried everything to solve it but it just wouldn't work, so ive decided to factory reset it. But everytime i reset it, the google apps are still not working. So, i wanted to reset it via a rom, that i could install with CWM, but i can't seem to find ANY rom for the b1-750 no stock rom, no custom rom, nothing. So, can anyone link me to a rom for the b1-750? Doesn't matter if it is stock or unofficial. Thanks!

My sister's laptop has been running really slow recently, so I decided to factory reset it (using the option that would reinstall the OS and delete all programs, but keep her personal files). After it reinstalled Win10 and booted back up, we tried to log in using her PIN and got the error in the photo below. account.live.com literally just redirects you to Microsoft's sign in page, and she never had another password before this one. Her Microsoft account password didn't work either, so I am thoroughly confused. How do I fix this? Thanks.
