Currently installing my msi r9 380 graphics card. It has 2 6 pin connections. My power supply has a pcie connection that plots into two 6pin+2pin Do I only use both 6 pins from my power supply to my gpu. Psu is a Corsair cx 600

Hello all you knowledgable people. I'm looking to build a budget friendly full hd gaming with ability to upgrade. My thoughts are to go with a z97 mobo (i'd prefer inrel) and for gpu, since xfire boards are cheaper as well as freesync monitors, so I would go with r9 380x 4gb (maximum budget for gpu) Don't know about the mobo. Looked at msi z97s sli krait edition as well as Asrock z97 pro4. I know you guys prefer Asus but they are so expensive. For first cpu I don't know is G3258 won't bottelneck the gpu and if I should go for i3-4170. And even if that will do. But would like to get away with stock fan for now for budget. Other components would be 1TB baracuda HDD and 8gb ballistix sport ram (should I go for 1x8 or 2x4?) And some $50 case. Cooler master or fractal probably. In the future I plan to add OC i7 with better fan. Second HDD in RAID + boot ssd and a second gpu with better ventilation. What are your thoughts?

I wanted to know if it was safe to put a Corsair H80i GT on a R9 380 GPU to make it cooler, quieter and to overclock even more. I was wondering about this ever since I saw the video where Linus put a CPU water cooling unit on a GPU. Thanks if you respond in advance!!

Can you guys recommended a good motherboard for my current gaming build.. under 100 usd would be awesome.. but a little over won't hurt. okay so ive been having a strange problem with the rig ive put together, basically my display drivers keep crashing and then recovering. when it actually happens the sound usually starts to "buzz" that kind of pulses with the sounds for example as some one speaks the buzz rises and falls with their speech pattern (its hard to describe but basically it sounds like its all being played through like a speaker from 1960, think one small step for man kind of thing) and then the buzzing either stops on its own or my screen will completely cut out (full black screen) and then come back with the msg "your display driver have stopped working and have now recovered" or I lose video and audio signal completely and need to restart. when the screen cuts out it does it cleanly with no artefacts on screen but when it recovers any video I was watching at the time/game playing stops responding and has to restart (for example if im listening to you tube while playing a game and it cuts out the game will usually stop responding but youtube will be fine but if im just on youtube the whole browser goes down but everything else will be fine) 1. okay so here are the things ive tried so far: 2. tested both sticks of ram in both slots together and individually (no change) 3. uninstalled all drivers and then manually reinstalled them all (still no change) 4. uninstalled and reinstalled windows 10 and then reinstalled all drivers (......... no change ) 5. completely disassembled and then reassembled the entire rig (2 hours later....... no change but at least had fun) 6. took it into a shop who tested the graphics card and motherboard in isolation (cos I didn't have enough spare parts) and he said all the hardware seemed fine on its own so still no answers so here is what is in my rig:- AMD Athlon X4 860K Club 3D radeon r9 380 16gb dual channel 1866 RAM ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+ Cooler Master Nepton 240M 600w Edison power supply and it runs on windows 10 so ive had a lot of help from the community on here before and I really appreciate how friendly and helpful every one is and I'd really appreciate any ideas any one might have on how to fix this problem thanks in advance Rich

1. Budget & Location $700 in US dollars (converted from Philippine Peso). I live in the Philippines and parts are limited. Parts list are available here. I went over the $700 for more performance. 2. Aim The system would be running games at 1080p, preferably Max or High would be good. The system would run DotA 2 and CS:GO most of the time, but the system should also be able to play AAA games and latest titles at 50-60fps on high/max settings. The system would also be doing video-editing occasionally (birthdays, presentations). 3. Monitors How many monitors do you plan on running? 1 (one) Do you plan on moving to more monitors in the future? Yes, but not now, maybe 2~4 years from now (which I'll upgrade my GPU). What resolution are they at too? 1080p, tho I heard that going 1440p is really good, but I can play at around 1080p for now. 4. Peripherals Do you also need to purchase peripherals such as keyboards and mice as well as monitors ect. Also please tell us if you'll need an OS such as Windows. Nope. 5. Why are you upgrading? We ask this because you may see upgrading as the only path to solve an issue but things such as driver updates, reconfiguration or cleaning can boost performance without spending a cent. Hey, I've been trying to get into recording with my new recently built computer.... but there have been problems... Before I completely explain, these problems seem to only happen when i video record. My specs: gpu: strix r9 380 2gb gddr5 cpu: intel xeon 1231-v3 obs: encoder: x264 use cbr enable cbr padding max bitrate: 3000 the reset default settings for twitch streaming. Anyways, every time there is alot of action on the screen while recording, the recording looks like this. I have recently been researching on Newegg and Amazon, and have decided to upgrade my pc, i wanted to know if it´s actually worth it, or not. im gonna buy Powercolor r9 380 on crossfire (that´s 2 of them), an intel i7 5820k, a gigabyte motherboard and 16gb Ram to do some HEAVY editing. Is this upgrade from my old r9 270x 2gb worth it, or should i buy another GPU? i´m not worried about the CPU or RAM, only about the GPU, since i wasn´t sure wether to buy r9 380 or r9 280x (Because of DX12 compatibility issues in r9 2** series). P.S. Becasue of some shitty law in my country i can only do shipments below 190 dollars, so the GPU´s have to be below 190, not all of them combined, but individually (e.g. i can buy 4 r9 380´s since i can order them on separate shipments, each shipment being less than 190 dollars . Fell free to leave any suggestions about what RAM i should use (DDR4), or what MOBO. thx!

1080p, Single, Full Screen, 8x AA. I'm only getting a score of 478 whatup. Average FPS is 12. Max was 17. Is my CPU bottlenecking my GPU? Is it supposed to bottleneck in Unigine? #sad See sig for rig

Recently I have been having major issues with my R9 380 with FPS in numerous games. I am only averaging an FPS of around 40 in GTA V and used to get a lot more than that. On Tomb Raider only getting around 40 also. I have removed AMD CCC thinking that was the issue, but didn't really help out much. I am also having major studding issues on GTA V, any clue as to what may be wrong? AMD 8320 OC at 4 GHZ 8 GB DDR3 Ram MSI R9 380 4gb stock (getting same FPS when in overclocked mode also) Resolution at 1440x900 FPS drops down to 30 and below often also Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for your time.

I got a stable 4.1 GHz on 1.225V. Stability was tested using AIDA64 (without the GPU stress) 30-min runs. In the span of 2 weeks, PC has crashed at least 4 times now. It happens randomly, one time I was just at the desktop. Another was while playing league. Other times I just closed an application/game. Every time it BSODs, I increase the voltage by 0.005. So with that, it is now on 1.245V. I'm now having second thoughts regarding the reason of the crashes. BSOD says "WHEA_uncorrectable_error". I have questions, 1.) Is it possible that the RAM would be the one causing the "random" instability? It is the only one not running on stock (except the CPU of course) versus the rest of the components. As some may already know, the G3258 can only handle 1333MHz, so the BIOS automatically turned down the frequency into 1333MHz but also tightened the timings to 8 (stock is 10). Before anything else, I've tested the ram with memtest86, but other than that, everything is tested using AIDA64. 2.) Tried to run a stability test (including the GPU) for 30 mins, max temp was 80°C for CPU, 76°C for GPU. Is this STILL okay? Ambient is somewhere above 30°C (no way for me to check). I only have 2 top intakes (stock case fans). I'm starting to think I messed up the CPU cooler installation. It's funny how I keep asking questions that will only get answered if I do some more "testing" (e.g. adding fans, longer stability tests). Nonetheless, I would like to get some insight before I do some more testing. Would be nice to gather information first (and since I will be away from my PC for 1 week starting tomorrow).

1. Budget & Location I'm trying to stay as close to $800USD as possible for the rig itself. 2. Aim I'd like to use this primarily for games like Battlefield, Fallout, No Man's Sky and the such. There will be some video capture and then light editing. Lastly, the usual downloads and streaming of the internet stuffs. 3. Monitors I'll use one display initially but I would like the ability to expand to three (or maybe use an ultrawide)… will that require me to upgrade the GPU or will the R9 380 suffice? For my purposes, the R9 380 is better than the GTX 960 for me(I can spare power consumption and heat output) but will it hold up against the 960 when you get outside of gaming. I do a lot of game creation(Unity3D), some 3D modeling, and some light vide editing. So, will the 380 still performe better than the 960 when you go outside of gaming?

Of these three cards, which would offer the best performance for the dollar? I'm planning a pretty crazy build inside an old PS2 case so I've narrowed down to 3 cards that will even fit the case but I don't know which GPU would give the best bang for the buck considering the current prices in Canada. From the strongest/ most expensive to weakest 1) Asus GTX 970 mini @ $370 used from Kijiji (Canadian Craigslist) , the card runs for about $500 after taxes new 2) Sapphire R9 380 for $315 @ Newegg after taxes and shipping 3) EVGA GTX 960 SC for about $230 after taxes and a MIR My thought process is that I'm afraid that the 960 will be okay for today's use but I will end up wanting to upgrade within a year so I may as well spend a little more now. And if I do sell, the 960 won't have a very high resale value either. However the 960 draws the least power at 125 watts and will generate the least amount of heat out of the three. As for the R9 380, it is supposed to edge the 960 in raw performance but runs a little hotter and draws 250W. If all at regular prices, this would seem to be the no brainer but for nearly $100 more, than the 960, I'm not sure if it's worth it. and for a little more than $50 more, I could get the 970. The GTX 970, simply the best itx card from team green and trumps the other two cards but I'm not sure about dropping nearly $400 on a GPU... However, I know that it will last me for a few years. * Side note: I'm only running a single 1080p monitor and plan try my hand at more PC gaming and a little in the crative space in terms of video/photo editing and producing music. I don't know which to get, their pro's and con's seem to even themselves out pretty well to me. GTX 960 maxwell architecture has the best power-to-performance ratio ever R9 380 can use Crimson, which I have heard is amazing GTX 960 stays very cool, while R9 380 has slightly better performance with extra heat output and power consumption Whatever card I purchase will be an MSI 4GB, I like Afterburner and have had good experience with their Twin Frozr coolers in the past. I do a lot of game creation with game engines such as Unity3D, some video-editing, and gaming

Help people of the Linus Tech Tips forum. I would say I'm a pretty big computer gamer and have gotten into some video editing for YouTube as my hobby.The program I use most is Sony Vegas, but I also use After Effects not very much though. My price budget is between $200-$250. I understand Nvidia has cuda cores and gpu acceleration. And the R9 380 has OpenCL which I heard is good for sony vegas. I was just wondering if the R9 380 4gb or the gtx 960 is better for what I am doing. And another question for in the future. Would using SLI greatly help in video editing? I know It is pretty effective in gaming but I'm not very sure about video editing. Any advice and/or help is very much appreciated!

Hello once more to the people of the LinusTechTips forum. I have recently started YouTube for a little hobby. And my current pc has a 4790k 32 gigs of ram and a gtx 660. I've been researching here and there to find that the R9 380 works best for sony vegas (Especially the 4 gig card). And I was wondering if getting a little more feed back could help me still. I have done only a few things after effects but the point is that I will still be doing a few things with AE. Would the R9 380 still be very good in this situation? And does the R9 380 out perform or do just as well as say gtx 960 in games? Any answer is appreciated

Hello once again to the people of the LinusTechTips forum. I have recently gone more deeply into video editing. But I am still a pc gamer as well. I have gtx 660 at the moment. But I'm being told that the R9 380 is the best for sony vegas. Would this card be best for video editing in the $200-$250 price range? And if so is there is big performence difference between the 4 gig and the 2 gig? Thank you for any help

I have two monitors, one using HDMI and the other using DVI. I cannot get the computer to display anything on the DVI monitor which will stay in standby mode after displaying the windows logo upon start up. I have an R9 380 with the 15.12 drivers and have just upgraded to windows 10. This monitor set up worked fine on windows 7 with an old radeon 6850. What can I do to fix this issue? Hi guys, The date draws near where I get to decide what card to buy (it's Saturday). I was initially decided on getting an R9 380X but after watching this video It made me think, an OCed R9 380 would match up to the R9 380X performance (I believe the same case goes to the R9 390X and R9 390). In my area the difference is about $50. A solid $50 which I could use to buy games and gifts for other people. Do these cards use the same cooler? I'm gunning for Sapphire Nitro. Also, both have backplates unlike early versions of the R9 380 Nitro. Is it worth it?

Hello, i have an MSI R9 380 4GB video card, and i was wondering if it was able to crossfire with a twin card, the thing is that i don't find the socket to connect it to the other card this model doesn't have it. I investigate a while and i heard there is another way to crossfire by using software and not hardware. In case is true, what are the recommendations to this build, coolers, power supply, etc. And where i cand find this software. thank you.

Hey guys i'm having a bit of a problem i just bought an XFX r9 380 4GB, i play World of Warcraft i raid everyweek and my new gpu keeps downclocking while raiding and the gpu load fluctuates from 100% to 0%, my fps go down to 25 so is pretty unplayable, i was really surprised because i had a GTX 650 TI Boost and it had more fps. So i started checking the clocks and i saw that when i'm inside my garrison or leveling where there's little to no action the clock is at full speed, but when i step into Stormshield or a raid the clock goes down to 400-500 MHz. here's the gpu z in WoW http://imgur.com/Kg8Pb2U here's the gpu z in Guild Wars 2 another MMO http://imgur.com/bN9Xqif How can i fix this? Good Day, So I just finished building my PC last weekend. And, just last night I tried playing LoL and HotS just to get an idea of how strong the R9 380 is (SAPPHIRE NITRO 4G). LoL was pretty easy, but I already knew that since my 3-yo laptop can easily maintain 60 fps with VSYNC on. Now here's the catch, HotS, I can't seem to reach 50 fps with VSYNC on, and with it off, just barely 61 fps. Is this supposed to happen? I'm not sure but I think I was not even on ULTRA. I think I was on HIGH. I have a feeling that my G3258 cannot handle the CPU-intensive stuff, but turning those off just gives me 5 fps more. ADD: 1080p
