hello! im new to the gaming pc builder group and well......im on quite the budget so of course i researched... and researched...... and researched some more and then finally a couple weeks later I have h basis of a cheapo setup I was looking on every 2nd hand retail site under the sun and I found this deal with a hp z230 full tower with a 400watt psu(good d kind not a crap optiplex kind they actually used decent a psu in this series)16gb of ram a 3.2 ghz 4c 4t xeon and a quadro k2000 and I dont play to many demanding games modded Minecraft and some others mostly low poly but can get demanding at times, anyway back to the point it runs everything decently rn but I have around 200 usd for a new gpu saved up and I found a deal on a r9 380 4gb its not recommended for my psu but it should still work with what its estimated to be pulling rn (spent hours pouring over the good old tech videos)anyway any ideas on something better? (the r9 380 is for 120 usd)

My R9 380 is appeaing as a 200 series in Folding at home
Tootsie XD posted a topic in Graphics Cards
Currently using folding at home for both gpu and cpu but I have noticed my gpu is appearing in the advanced controller as a R9 200 series.... Even though my gpu is a R9 380. Does anyone else have this and know a fix for it? As I believe it is actually making the work units take longer than they should.- 5 replies

Hey sup guys! I have question. My graphics card MSI r9 270 STARTED to showing artifats since i played lots of games this month, above 8 hours per day and not working with drivers anymore so my friend is willing to give me his old MSI R9 380 4GB graphics card since he is using 1070 GTX. My question is , will my quite old PSU Enermax handle that card well? R9 270 was using 150 W as i know and r9 380 is using i think 190W? On my PSU 2x6 pin coming out from PSU and this card demands that. So, should I be okay or no? I do play games a lot. Like 6/8 hours per day, medium-high with 1600x900 resolution. So PC should be like this , i7 2600k, saying 95 TDP 8 gigs of RAM DDR3, 4usb im using x2 for keyboard and mouse, rest can be mic or USB soundcard 3 HDDs 7200 rpm and 1 SSD MSI R9 380 4GB Enermax Liberty 500W 12V1 22A, 12V2 22A

Hi, I got a broken R9 380 that stoped working for no apparent reason, I was talking to a friend, told him I'm using a GTX 660 and he gave me this one and said that if i fix it, it's mine. My build is old and as it follows: AsRock 930 Pro3 AMD FX-8350 BE 4GB DDR3 RAM Corsair CX 550W the gpu was not used for a long time, i opened it, changed the thermal paste gave it a cleaning (was already pretty clean) reconected everything and gave it a try, nothing even lights up. No coolers spin in the entire pc, my mobo doesn't have a onboard video, so it doesn't start without a gpu, which means the mobo doesn't ever detect a gpu. I know it isn't a mobo problem because it works well with my old GTX660. What could cause this kind of problem?

Hey. One fan of my R9 380 series GPU is just restarting over and over. It also makes a little noise when it restarts like it stops hard or something... I bought this fan on ebay like a year ago and it had new fans. Ran really good until recently. I am decent with computers but not amazing with fans. My room has good temps lol I attached a system information screenshot and PSU Things I have Done cleaned fan and whole pc tried msi afterburner & fanspeed made sure bios is updated got the fan out and re screwed it in perfectly formatted my whole pc and reinstalled windows changing pci e slots ( card takes two 6 pins) i just put them the other way and it didnt do anything Things I want to try replace bearings in fan? the above video shows a possible fix. I cannot get there however in my amd program. It updated since the video. If anyone has any way to do that without going on the software, let me know so i can try please!

Hey Guyz.. Sorry for my bad english.. i have a r9 380 4gb saphire model.. which is running on every system except mine.. i have i5 4790 with 8 gb ram and a 500w psu.. i purchased it 3 days ago and when i bought it it was running fine whole night.. but after that night i tried everything but it is not giving me a display.. the on board intel hd is working and giving me display and through that i found that my gpu is not showing in the task manager.. i clear the cmos and unistall the drivers through ddu.. an hour ago i requested my friend to bring a gpu which is quite old 1 gb ddr3 card.. don't know the name of that card.. but it give me display without any issue.. now my concern is that do i need a better psu? my current psu is antec 500w and i also try to replace it with great wall 500w.. it stil give no display.. fans and all things are working but i am not getting display.. if someone can confirm me that so i will buy a new powersupply.. and also wanted to mention that i tried my card on a different system which has thermal take 650w psu and it worked there without any issue.. but the person wasn't giving me his psu for checking.. that's why i wanted to make sure is it a psu which is making issues?

Hey Guyz. Sorry For my bad english. I have a saphire nitro r9 380 4 gb which i overclcked a little bit (core clock @1120mhz and Memory @ 1600) my card is a bit old now and i wanted to squeeze a little bit more performance .. i heard that amd cards do unlock by flashing bios and give a little bit more performance.. if somebody can explain that will it give me more performance and explain me the method i'll really appreciate that.. i have a dual bios card so i guess it's not that big of a risk..

I was wanting to get another xfx r9 380 cards but they are a lot more difficult to get on eBay. what performance would I get if I crossfire two of these? I have the 4gb models. Final Note: would it be worth it to watercool both if I did crossfire it

Hey Guyz.. Sorry for my bad english So one of the fan of my graphic card r9 380 4gb saphire broke a couple of weeks ago it is running absolutely fine but the temps are around 87c which is in my opinion not comfortable.. so i asked this question in this forum and most of the guyz suggested me to attach a fan through cable tie.. i arranged a fan and cable ties now i m thinking how should i mount a fan look at the picture i attached in this forum.. this is not the original pic of my gpu but still you can solve the issue.. i removed one fan from my graphic card now i m thinking that should i cut the half of the plastic housing and attach a fan directly to the heat sink or should i leave it as it is and attach a fan above the plastic housing in this case there will be a little bit of distance between the fan and the heat sink and the linus video about the fan guide for the gpu shows me to remove the plastic housing but in linus's case he was supposing that all of the fan is not working so removing the whole casing would not effect on anything.. so i m hoping u guyz can solve my problem.. also i have only fan and i don't wanna loose the fan of the gpu also wanted to mention that the right side fan has broken left one is running perfectly fine.

Hey Guyz.. Sorry for my bad english.. Couple of weeks ago i asked a question that the one fan of my graphic card r9 380 4 gb saphire has broken by mistake.. and for from then it is running on one fan only.. now the temps are not comfortable in my openion it is going to 87c under load.. i know that won't kill it immediately but it will reduce its life.. now i arranged zip tie or cable tie and a fan .. and i also removed the old fan.. now i wanted to ask that how should i place the fan? should i place it in position in which the fan blows towards the graphic card or should i place it in that position in which it blows away from the graphic card?also wanted to mention that i am changing one fan only with a cpu fan Exact name of graphic card is : AMD R9 380 4 gb saphire nitro

Hey guyz. Sorry for my bad english.. A month ago i was cleaning my whole pc and by mistake i broke the fan.. i tried to fix it but it is completely broken then i took it out and running my pc for a month with one fan.. it is running fine.. i see the temps while i was gaming .. but i saw it in one game only which was cs go and the highest temps was the 70c.. i know cs go wasn't stressing out my gpu.. i also run furmark for 5 minutes and the highest temp was 81c.. it wasn't going up .. now i m downloading my demanding games like apex legend which makes the usage of my gpu to 100%.. now i m seeing the max temp 87c.. i run alot of benchmarks high end games, stress test but the highest temp is 87c i m sure it cannot rise more then 87c..it doesn't throttle too.. and these temps are after applying a new thermal paste.. and in my country finding an individual fan is very hard.. ebay, amazon and other webs doesn't work.. so i wanted to ask.. am i hurting my gpu? Am i safe at these temps? What are the temps at which i should be worry?

Hey guyz sorry for my bad english i have an r9 380 and today when i was cleaning my pc i accedently broke one fan of my graphic card.. i try to fix it but it is completely broken now i knew that saphire cards run a little bit cooler so i decided to test the card with one fan only and i benchmarked it and run furmark for 6 minutes and the max temp was 81c.. so i want some suggestions that is it safe to run r9 380 at this temp? my case has two 100 mm fans at front.. i can't find fans for my graphics card because in my country ebay, amazon and other famous online stores doesn't work..

Hey Guyz.. Sorry for my bad english i wanted to get most out of my r9 380 and that's why i decided to overclock it.. i use unigine heaven for benchmark the graphic card.. and i overclocked through msi afterburner.. my core clock goes upto 1050mhz from 985mhz and after that heaven is crashing so i m sure i couldn't bump up the core clock any more.. then i started to bumping up the memory clock and now i am at max 1750 mhz from 1450 mhz.. and i m gaining a little bit performance after everytime i increased the memory clock.. but i wanted to confirm that is it right to use unigine heaven for memory clock overclocking?\

I handed down my old gaming pc to my younger brother about two years ago. The 2nd gen i5 cpu and mobo eventually failed and he has been stuck with no pc for a while. We still have an old MSI r9 380 4gb and some gskill ripsawX 1600mhz ram (2x4gb) plus a cx500 PSU and HDD that I am unaware of its working condition. If put in a decent budget pc would suffice for his fortnite and minecraft adventures. I have been trying to figure out what is the best way to use these parts to get a budget decent gaming pc by maybe throwing it into a old Vostro 260 with a 2nd gen i3 or finding a myriad of used parts on ebay to build him a Frankenstein machine. Something for under $200 would be ideal because anymore and I would probably be better off just getting him a budget APU build. Either way I have been getting caught going down the rabbit whole of trying to figure out what kind of things I might need to upgrade on something like an old Vostro 260 like the PSU? (if it is even able to be upgraded) If anyone has any ideas, recommendations, or experience doing something like this I would love to hear some input.

So, a few days ago one of the fans on my R9 380 PCS+ (PowerColor 4GB Version) and because of that, I can't play any games on it (even with an 80 Mhz underclock, fan speed set to 100, etc.) because the GPU reaches up to 130) So; my question is; are there any cheap aftermarket coolers that would fit onto the card (R9 285 reference PCB) that aren't super expensive (under 80 euro)....... I know that it's an old card but I can't really afford to buy a new GTX 1080(TI) or 1070ti which means that I'm gonna have to repair my old R9 380

I have an fx-6300 and I'm looking for an R9 380 (any of them with 4gb) and I wonder if my PSU will handle it. It's a Cooler Master Silent Pro M500 with Bronze certification. My system is like 2 years old now.

Hello everyone Before I start: I looked this up on the internet, a lot. Been busy for quite a while now, but I can't get it to work.Currently I have two computers, one I used for a while and one I put together two days ago.The "new" one exists out of old parts such as:i5 3570kgigabyte GA-H61M-S1 (flashed to 10b)8gb hyperx running at 1333 nowCorsair CX600 (fully tested and working)Asus strix r9 380 2gb OCClean windows 10 installationSomehow this setup is not detecting the gpu. Only the d-sub port from the mobo works.I swapped a 1080 ti in this system, it worked. I swapped the r9 380 in the pc that usually runs the 1080 ti, worked fine. Tested all ports on the r9 card, all worked. I put it back in the i5 pc, doesn't work. The power is fine, both cards have all the lights light up and fans spinning, and I tested some games in my main pc.Really frustrating, I have no clue what is wrong and why the r9 card doesn't work with the i5 and h61m-s1 Please help me

I am going to use Premier Pro for Editing. Which is a better GPU for Editing in Premier Pro, Which is more optimized Opencl or Cuda. Which card should i buy ? Please Help...

Hummm I have 3 PC Setup At Home, 1 for me that I can run what ever I want in max setting and 2 others with more "low end" in mind like playing minecraft with 2 of my friend but some thing seams weard, I have 1 of the 2 low end equip with: FX8350 8 core Radeon R9 380 24Go de ram(to off load rendering over night on this pc and be able to render 2 thing same time even if it doesn't have the best GPU) as you can see in the first photo even with just minecraft open, My GPU Filker between 90% and 0% amd that cause lot of lag spikes and over all I have between 50 and 100 fps with everything at minimum as exemple, This is my more Low end PC FX 6300 Six Core Radeon R9 270X 8G of ram this pc get only 5Go of ram allocated to minecraft and the first one has 10Go of ram allocated because of less overall ram This pc get around 200-300 fps same setting same version of windows, both with all driver up to date, (see second picture for representation of usage) this one get way better result(more like expected) but with less powerfull parts? where could the probleme be?

Hi there LTT land I'm trying to decide if I should OC my PC which is by no means weak for my needs, but sometimes I would like a bit more OOMPH from it when playing some games, was easily capable to play some games on ultra just after I bought it but since some upgrades and such crap it cant on default settings at least. I am by no means computer savvy enough that I can do this on my own, I'm to ADHD and visually oriented to go through walls of text and pro jargon about these things. So I'm kinda stuck with asking for help from total strangers which have a bit of time to help out a noob to OC his PC. I have tried to start on my own Downloaded MSI afterburner and Kombuster, TechPowerUp & had Speccy since forever. I hope the Screenshot is enough info on the PC to be able to give me some advice to start with. like what to do on these testing thingies to advance and so on and so forth Regards Goodmann P.S. ADHD made me open 3 windows while making this small post since it looked like something I wanted to check out. . . . OOOOHHHH is that a squirrel? Runs of for the fourth window P.S.S. So I was googling back and forth since I'm impatient as hell and nobody replies anyways and found A POST asking basically the same as I am, seems to have the same Mobo and CPU if I'm not mistaken. Is the conclusion that some of those replying correct? Is it not advisable to OC this mobo at all? I really would like to know. . .

Basically my goal is to run Windows 10 and be able to dual boot to Mac OS X, preferably id like to be able to install the latest High Sierra but if not its whatever, anything above 10+ i think would suffice! Ive done and tried Mac OS X on VMware and its just so laggy from software to possible hardware updates required on the Mac side of things, i would like to be able to install OS X on my external HDD, to make internal eventually and be able to run it without this lag issue as it takes like 10sec to process any commands like simply loading up an app or program or just the About option. BUILD: CPU - Intel i7-6700k RAM - 32GB of Vengeance® LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 MOBO - MSI 170A GAMING M5 GPU - Asus STRIX AMD R9 380 4GB Storage - Crucial 256GB SSD, Samsung 250GB SSD, WL 3TB HDD, + Toshiba 320GB External HDD (Will Be For Mac OS X, If My System Is Compatible) So, if your able to assist me on setting this up to work properly, or if im even able to if my hardware is compatible id really appreciate any and all support for this. Thanks for your time!

Operating System Windows 10 Computer Specs (PSU, GPU, CPU, RAM, Motherboard) Power supply- EVGA - 500W 80 Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply GPU- Sapphire R9 380 Nitro CPU- Intel i5-6500RAM- G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Motherboard- MSI H110M micro atx Description of problem The issue is that when the GPU is installed, the computer fails to boot. The fans on the GPU, and the CPU cooler spin, but it never follows through, and the computer never boots. When the graphics card is not installed, the computer runs just fine. The integrated graphics work perfectly, and the computer is completely functional. When this issue began This issue began in July, while I was watching an episode of house of cards. My computer was under no stress during its initial failure. Recurring issue Yes Date of purchase I Built my computer back in March of 2016, as a reward for getting a new job. It has worked perfectly until two months ago. Under Warranty Yes Cause/Steps to recreate the issue The steps to recreate the issue are pretty simple, just insert the graphics card and it fails to boot. What I've tried so far to resolve the issue This is where things get tricky. When my PC first stopped working, I immediately assumed it was the Graphics card, as it crashed during a video. I got the GPU RMA'd and put it into my system, and initially it worked, for about two hours, but it crashed again only to have the exact same issue. No Boot. So, I immediately assumed the PCIe port was bad, and I ordered a new motherboard. I replaced the motherboard and attempted to boot up my PC, but again, it failed to boot. So after the motherboard replacement didn't work, I decided to try to wipe all the drivers on the system, and try again. And that fixed it! I decided to run stress tests on the GPU, and it passed all of them. I was about to start gaming, but I decided to eat first. Came back, and the computer was off, and it wouldn't boot again. And this is where I am now.

Hi. I searched google but didn't find anything. Are there any custom drivers for r9 280/290/380/390 to work with windows xp 32bit? Don't waste time and energy to tell me wtf are you doing with windows xp in 2017 and the awnser is retro gaming. It is possible to make gtx 970-TitanXM working with xp by just adding their name in the driver's notepad. Is it possible to do the same thingwith amd gpus as well? Keep in mind that r9 270x works with xp so it is possible.
