ok, so i'm buying an r9 290 (actually, i BOUGHT one), and i know its a really good card. but i also really want to have physx capabilities which i know amd cards dont have. so i was wondering if i could buy a cheap nvidia card to use as a dedicated physx card while keeping the 290 as my main graphics driver. is that possible? please let me know.

I got some money ahead and after much research I found that I can afford this combo: i5 4460 3,20GHz Radeon R9 290 4GB 8GB 1333 RAM I like it because I have put more emphasis on gaming. Do you like this combination? Will it perform amazing in games for the years to come? My resolution is a 1366x768 on a LED TV 29".

Alright so I've been having an issue with Boinc, namely the Prime grid project. The project doesn't utilize my R9 290 for gpu compute and I was hoping that someone here could help me fix that. Is there a way to get it to work or maybe another project that would use it instead? My Specs I5 6500 processor MSI 170-A Motherboard 8 GB G.Skill 2400MHz Ram Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 GTX 650 EVGA 850 G2 Powersupply I put the 290 wasn't working in primegrid well before the 650 was in my machine.

So I built my PC a few months ago- less than a year old and everything is still on warranty. About a month ago I noticed my screen went black, and the GPU fans got really loud. I know for a fact that the it is just the gpu fans because when I physically stop them my computer goes back to being its silent self. Thinking that it was just asleep, I tried to wake it up. No success. This has been occurring about twice a week at random since then. I know it is just the GPU because when I'm in a skype call, or listening to music, I can still hear the audio output from the computer into the speakers. The computer is also responsive, because it will make the normal system sounds you get when you press random keyboard keys. I talked to the people at the hardware store and they said they'd need to test it to confirm I'm not lying. HERE'S THE PROBLEM: The GPU runs fine under stress. 4 hour Furmark test confirmed that. The screens just go black and the GPU fans get loud at random. There has not been a single BSoD WHAT I'VE TRIED: -Unplugging it and plugging it back in -Driver update -Older driver install (problem occurred both with Crimson and whatever driver there was before it) I'm afraid that if I have the hardware store check it out, they wont find the problem, and I'll just end up looking like a conniving asshole trying to take advantage of their "equal or better value if outdated" deal to get a newer AMD card. BY THE WAY: The card is an XFX R9 290 Black Edition Thanks for the help

This is my system: fx-9590 (h100i, can overclock past turbo if it matters) asrock fatality 990fx 16GB 1333 ddr3 (corsair valueselect, single channel) sapphire r9 290 (basically a reference card) 128GB SSD, 1TB HDD 850W 80plus silver psu I want to improve my gaming performance. I'm thinking of getting another 290 and going crossfire but I'm not sure if it will be worth it. Using AOD while running BF4 at ultra 1440x900 (monitor res, getting a new one) 140% resolution scale (avg 60-70 fps or more (100-130), sometimes drops (38-50)), I noticed that my CPU hovers around 50-65%, and my GPU is usually at 100% with the clock speed of it sometimes jumping around wildly. I also notice that it is running right on the edge of the thermal limit at 94 Celsius. Clearly, my 290 is the bottleneck either due to thermal throttling or due to being maxed out completely. Now, a 290 waterblock (to fix the suspected throttling and keep my fps consistently high) and another 290 seem to cost exactly the same. So here is the question: Should I get another 290 and crossfire, or watercool my current 290? Would my 9590 significantly bottleneck the crossfire configuration's performance? should I just sell the 290 and buy a new GPU? would the 9590 bottleneck that? Would a potential 290 crossfire even work with my current psu?

So recently my computer has been acting weird lately i get temps of 70c degrees on csgo and i get around 80 degrees for my main gpu on all max settings which has never happened to me.I also was playing rocket league and at one point my first r9 290 was hitting temps of 93 degrees and my cpu was hitting 73 degrees which makes no sense to me because none of these games ever made my components this hot.Keep in mind those are temps of all my fans in the case and the gpu fans at 100%.This problem only started a week ago and i can't get rid of it yes i have the stock cooler on it but i never overclocked as i already have a few components for a custom watercooling loop. I've tried replacing the thermal paste on the cooler nothing happened, i tried a different stock cooler on it nothing happened, i also tried resetting mobo settings nothing happened at this point i'm frustrated because i can't figure out whats wrong with the computer any help would be appreciated on how i can fix this issue.

Hi! I recently built a gaming pc, the crown jewel of which I thought would be the R9 290. I'd seen many benchmarks displaying some amazing frame rates, so I had no doubt that the card would rock any game that I put to the test. While I did get decent frame rates on BF4 (1080p, Ultra), there were quite a few frame drops which caused me to drop down the graphics to high. Not to mention this card gets as hot as 90c with 100% fan speeds, which really concerns me. Moving onto Tomb Raider (1080p, Ultra), I got an average of about 30-40fps, max of 60fps, and a low of about 20fps when in cutscenes with fire. That low was EXTREMELY disappointing for me, considering the amount I paid for the card. I did a test on Unigine Heaven Benchmark... Here were the results. FPS: 30.7 Score: 772 Min FPS: 14.0 Max FPS: 60.6 System Platform: Windows 7 (build 7601, Service Pack 1) 64bit CPU model: AMD FX-6350 Six-Core Processor (3917MHz) x3 GPU model: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series 15.200.1062.0 (4095MB) x1 Settings Render: Direct3D11 Mode: 1920x1080 8xAA fullscreen Preset Custom Quality Ultra Tessellation: Extreme When they say a max of 60, they mean it was 60 for about 3 seconds on one scene. I was expecting better scores. Is this just the result of the card, or is it a flaw in my system? Does anyone else experience FPS/heat issues with this card? Any input would be appreciated!

What power supply would you recommend I pair with the above mother board? This is my first server build so not really sure.

Hi, So I had a 7970 GHZ, and the rear fan stopped working ( and then the front fan ) after a while with my X99s, so I spent quite a bit ( ~40€ ) to get two new fans for it, after 2 weeks, the rear fan stops working AGGAIN, so I decided to upgrade to a MSI R9 290, now I looked at the card ( it's been about 4 weeks that I've had it, but it might have been glitchy earlier ) and the rear fan wasn't spinning ! now I don't have a third card to test, but would it maybe not be a problem with the gpu's and maybe a problem with something else ? I'm going to test a different PCI slot, but I can't really RMA it for "glitchy gpu fans", and the gpu's are out of warranty ( 7970 ran out beginning of summer, the 290 was second hand ) what could the problem be ? anybody know of a different thread with these kind of problems ?

Hey everyone, I do not post on forums often but I find myself in need of help. Normally I am the guy that everyone goes to for PC help, but I find myself at a loss for the problems that I am having with my own system. What keeps happening is that the AMD drivers keep crashing. Either they crash, pop up the message that the drivers have crashed and recovered and then the game that I was playing crashes in turn (duh) or the whole system goes down; screens go black and the only solution is to hard reset. I'm sorry I cannot be more specific than this but it is happening in every game that I play. Recently I have been replaying alot of games so here is the list of games that I have been having issues in: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age: Origins (And all DLC/Expansions as they are the same game), Dragon Age II, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Grand Theft Auto V, Company of Heroes 2, World of Warships, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Homeworld Remastered, Hitman: Absolution, Borderlands: The Presequel... yeah. I am pretty sure that the problem is down to something with the drivers or my system. My system setup is kinda complicated. I recently changed over to using my secondary tower as the main had me throwing fits of rage. But the secondary is giving me the same problems, if less frequently. And on top of that I have changed the secondary a bit to compete with the power my primary had. (Note: All 3 of these setups have been giving me the SAME problems) Original Setup: Gigabyte G1.Sniper A88X AMD Athlon II X4 860K Corsair LP 2133 RAM (2x 4GB) PowerColor Radeon R9 290X PowerColor Radeon R9 290 CoolerMaster Hybrid Pro 850W PSU Secondary Setup: MSi FM2-A85XA-G65 AMD A10 6800K Radeon RP1866 RAM (2x 4GB) HIS Radeon HD7750 Fractal Design Tesla 650W PSU Current Setup: MSi FM2-A85XA-G65 AMD A10 6800K Corsair LP 2133 (2x 4GB) and Radeon RP1866 (2x 4GB) RAM (I know I am running 2 different kits, see later explanation) PowerColor Radeon R9 290 Fractal Design Tesla 650W PSU Now, to this point I have been dealing with the issue but it is really staring to grind my gears -- namely cause I have started playing MP games with my friends again. So, what have I tried? Here is another list, and this is just what I can remember having tried: 1. Uninstalling and reinstalling the AMD drivers, both the beta and non-beta versions (I use DDU to completely remove the drivers) 2. Underclocking my GPU 3. Underclocking my CPU 4. Changing RAM 5. Removing the Crossfire setup 6. Running MSi Afterburner to monitor temps 7. Uninstalling and reinstalling DX 8. Updated BIOS on motherboard (Both on the previous and current setups) 9. Updated BIOS on the R9 290 10. Changing out 8 pin connectors from PSU to GPU 11. Flipping switch on the 290 from normal mode to quiet mode and vice versa 12. Various fixes that are specific game related (Disabling in-game for programs, overlays, specific profiles, blah blah) So, for the RAM configuration that I am currently running, I found that I am having the same issues regardless of which RAM kit I have in my system and the fact that I am having the same issue with BOTH kits installed, directs me to thinking that the RAM is not the issue. I do know that RAM problems can emulate problems with other parts of your system... but in this case I think that I have already proved that it is not the RAM. Also, you will note that I have not mentioned what OS I am running, that is because I am currently running Windows 10. But, I have been having the same issues since I was running Windows 7. So I have had these issues with Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 Technical Preview, and 10 Official Release (All fresh installs BTW). Like the RAM, this leads me to believe that my problem is independent of the operating system that I am running. (Does kinda tempt me to try it with Linux though) I think this is about all that I have to say about it. If you have any ideas, please post them cause I am at the end of what I know what to do.

Hey there, first of all I´d like to mention that I´m not that good in English ´cause I´m an Austrian guy, but this forum seems to be one of the best to get help.^^ Second, I know there might be another forum which allready discussed this topic but I didn´t find any so I started a new one, simply becaus it seemed as the easiest way. Now my question: Resently I looked up the systemrequierments on the Oculus Rift which will be released in Q1 2015, and I realised that my system wasn´t ready for that. CPU: Intel i7 4770K (not overclocked) Motherboard: ASUS VI Gene (C2) GPU: (right now) PNY GTX 770 OC 2GB RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB CPU-Cooler: (Air) Prolimatech Megahalems (with 1xNoctua NF-F12) PSU: BeQuiet 630W Case: Corsair 350D Monitor: LG 29UM55-P (and) BenQ GL2450 Mouse: Roccat Kone Pure So I thought about getting a new grafics card. And these ones are to choose from: GTX 980 GTX 970 SLI (though I´m not sure about that) R9 290X R9 290 CF R9 290X CF R9 390X R9 390 CF R9 390X CF And now I ask you, in hope you know it better than me, to give me an advise. Which one is the best for its money. And at the end do I need to upgrade my PSU too? Nice Greetings Max, Salzburg Austria

So as the title explains I get some higher temps than I did before. I bought the TJ08-e since I wanted a case with overclcoking capabilities, but still a small PC. That worked out well and I got my PC to be very quiet at idle. The HDD is on a rubber-band construction (sharkoon makes those - very nice) and the CPU fan is inaudible. The 180mm fan in the front is running at 7V an very quiet. My CPU has awesome temps, under a realisitc load like gaming an such it doesn't even reach 60°C and that with my 4.6Ghz overclock. BUT my GPU is always at fairly high temps, 45-50°C at idle and easily reaches 81°C while gaming. The problem is not really the temperature. I couldn't care less. Totally fine for a 290. But the TRI-X cooler actually ramps up to 53% and becomes clearly audible even through my (admittetly open-design) headphones. It seems like hot air gets trapped up there in my case and can't get out quick enough, but I have no idea how to fix that. (I moved the HDD up in the 5.25" bay to make it quieter by using an anti-vibration mount, so the HDD is not at the bottom anymore)

I was working on my computer and all of a sudden the gpu fan ramped up to 100% and my screen went black. I took off the side panel and it rebooted successfully, however the issue repeated itself 10 minutes afterwards. I then left it alone for an hour and it worked fine with the side panel on and off. Does anybody know why this is happening or how I can fix it? My specs: CPU: i5-4950 CPU cooler: Stock Intel cooler Motherboard: Asrock z97 anniversary PSU: Roswill 650w 80 Plus Gold Gpu: Asus Directcu II R9 290 Case: NZXT Source 530

I don't know whether it's because of the new videocard or something I recently did. But when I leave my computer on and allow the monitor to shut off, but if I leave the computer running, sometimes when I move the mouse to get the screen to turn on, it gives a little jolt of energy to make the screen LED to go green for a moment... 2-3 seconds, and then the monitor says no-input signal going to sleep. And can't get the monitor to wake. I can hear windows sounds in the background and restart fixes it. Ideas? windows 8.1 r9 290

I installed a R9 290 ASUS GPU and after a day of playing without issues now it crash in game and is showing artifacts and 90% usage spikes in idle and deskop. I m running win 7 64bits with a i5-3570 8GB RAM, and a XTX 750W... I m lost at what can be causing this. I read that it can be a voltage issue and to use MSI afterburner to disable ULPS and force constant voltage wich i did to no avail. Is this a know issue? any fix? is a bad GPU? Please help. P.D: sorry for the bad english i m not a native speaker EDIT: after looking in afterburner the thng spiking is the mem clock jumping from 150Mhz to 1260Mhz

Hi, Im planing on building a new rig and i had a question about Multi monitor support on the r9 290 and gtx 770. what i know (please correct me if im wrong): Hdmi/DVI/VGA are legacy connections and i can only use so many with either card. if i want to use display port i will need an active display port adapter to convert it to a legacy connection My question: I have 4 displays. 3 identical hp la2405wg monitors (each has display port) and 1 TCL HD tv 1920x1080 60Hz (model known) can i connect all of them in at the same time like Dvi >>> to monitor 1 Dvi >>> to monitor 2 Displayport >>>> monitor 3 Hdmi >>>> to my HDTV so which graphics card will work without any display port adapter
