Hi! A while back I used this forum to help me get a computer going, and it's great. But there's an issue I've been having. My drivers are up to date, I'm running an I-5 4460 at 3.3 GHZ, so now that's out of the way the issue I'm having: its not as good as it should be! I knew that the R9 280 wouldn't be a powerhouse, but while playing Borderlands 2 (not the most intense game, graphically) I get 30-11 FPS. That just doesn't make sense to me. I've looked into over clocking, which lead me to afterburners, which shows that while running a game my GPU is only using 23%-44% of its capability. Tldr: graphics card seems to be throttling for no reason, any ideas and more specifically wood an overclock help me out? thanks

Hey guys! I ran into an obstacle with my GPU. I have a Sapphire R9 280 Dual-X. When I have both monitors on, my idle temp goes from 36C to 51C. I honestly don't know why. I have the average 3 fans case fan system blowing positive air. When I have one monitor, it idles at 36C. When I have both, it goes up to 51C and under load it reaches above 84C. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, but if you guys could help me out, that would be fantastic. If it helps, I'm getting a new case and some new fans pretty soon, so I will be able to actually have better cooling.

So I'm planning on upgrading almost my entire PC. I live in Stockholm, Sweden, so prices are often much higher than, for example, in the US. The parts I'm planning on upgrading are mobo, cpu, ram and ssd. I don't often play very demanding games, but I would like to have something that can handle AAA-games on lower settings maybe. But the main reason I'm upgrading us that my harddrive is very slow, old and full, my motherboard only supports DDR2 memory, which I only have 4GB of, and my computer is feeling overall slow, both in games (I belive it's the ram) and normal use. My old PC: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz Sapphire r9 280 dual-x 3GB GDDR5 Old harddrive (don't care to look up the name) 2*2GB DDR2 1066 MHz ram Asus P5Q Rev. 1.03g Cooler Master Real Power M520 520w Antec nine hundred My planned PC: AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5 GHz Intel 535 Series 240GB SSD 2 * HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1866 MHz ram Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P I'm keeping the GPU, PSU and case. According to partpicker these should be compatible, only that the MOBO seem to need a BIOS update to work with any am3+ CPU. Since I have some pretty nice deals, the whole upgrade would cost about 335 usd, 293 euro. I don't have a real budget, but I'm not going to spend much more than this upgrade would cost. I'm wondering if any these parts have been known to be bad, if the parts work nicely together and if there is something I should change. This is my first time posting, so I don't now if I should create a new thread, but I also wonder if there's any way to upgrade my windows 8 to 10 while still swaping the motherboard and storage like I'm planning to do. My setup is FX 6300, 8gb of ram (1600MHz), 1tb HDD and a R9 280 gigabyte windforce. I want to know which of this PSU's is the best for this rig. If you could tell me how to plug the PSU to the card, i would be very thankful. The card has an 8pin and a 6pin conector, and i dont know if i have to occupy the 2 connectors. I already have the components and this PSU's are the only ones I can buy in mi situation. Thanks in advance for all the advices and recomendations

So i'm not sure if it happens often but the best thing happened to me this week. In the beginning of this month I was having problems with my GPU, an R9 280, and I brushed it aside until it died like two days after. That wasn't good. So I called MSI TWICE, and after being with them for almost three hours in total, I did the RMA process. (I'll talk about their customer support some other post) Well I did the RMA and waited for their emails like standard procedure and then when I got back from school I got an email from them and I felt blessed. I read the email and it said they couldn't find my model to replace so they wanted to know if I could do a swap. I saw what they wanted swap and I was happy and excited. I couldn't believe that they wanted to swap my 280 with a R9 390. I answered yes and they sent it to me. I got the GPU on Tuesday and everything seems great. I love it! Thank our lord and savior GabeN, but in all seriousness I think I got lucky. Well that's it I just wanted to talk about it and brag a little because I found it weird and I never heard from anyone else who has done pc gaming that this has happened to them before. Recently I bought a r9 280 from a user on /r/hardwareswap. The card runs fine in most games, but I have noticed a buzzing noise that comes from it, which sometimes causes stuttering in game, mostly in Rust. Recently, I bought Grand Theft Auto V, and while in game, my GPU is doing the buzzing and stuttering full time. I ruled out that it had nothing to do with performance because I I turned the res down and still experienced the same sh*t at a 800x600 resolution. I have a Vapor-X r9 280x, and here are the default settings of the card: Although I'm using a Sapphire card, I am using MSI Afterburner because Trixx doesn't seem to work on Win10. so, that leads me to my next question.... What do I do to resolve my issue? Hello, i am posting here because i have bought a R9 280x VTX3D (powercolor rebrand in europe) to replace my Radeon HD 6790 nearly 1 month ago, and lately it is acting quite weird, but i dont know what is wrong. I have a Corsair GS600w bronze+ (i know it is the previous generation of the CX600, but 5 years ago i didnt know much about electronics and computer hardware). The 6790 was pretty far pushed with a custom bios flashed, about 1020mhz on the core and 1200mhz on the mem speed, but there were no issues at all with 2HDD and 1 ssd, paired with my i5 2320@ 3Ghz. The problem is now, with the 280x, i have pushed it at 1100Mhz on the core and 1625 mhz on the mem speed, and after some weeks it started acting weird (i stress tested for 3 hours without any problems), like pc shutdowns, no image on the screen(while the music in the background playing normally) and i decided to back down a little. Now i am on 1000Mhz on the core and 1500Mhz on the mem speed.(note that the card out of box has 1050mhz on the core and1500mhz on the mem speed), but it still shutdowns/black screen , even when i am just surfing the web. I did some research and found out that my system nearly draws about 590w. Would the cards weird function be a psu's problem, or is the gpu faulty? how i can find out ?

Hey guys, So today I figured out that my Sapphire Radeon R9 280, which is a PCIe 3.0 graphics card, is stuck on PCIe 2.0 16x. I discovered this in the menu of the AMD Crimson software. So I went into the Gigabyte DualUEFI BIOS and I went into the GFX Configuration in the Peripherals section of the BIOS. Does this mean anything? Am I supposed to have another option selected here? After I looked here, I went to the Miscellaneous section of the M.I.T. menu and found this: There was no Gen3 option available? Does anybody know how to fix this?

Someone help me. My PSU (generic brand) just fried when i loaded a new "r9 280 windforce" graphics card with about 2 hours of full use. I think the motherboard is fine and the rest too. Im planning to buy a new PSU, but what would you recommend?, a pixxo monster 800watts or an "EVGA white 600w 80 plus"?.

Also, any suggestions on a different card?

I recently bought a 2GB Asus R9 270x Direct CU II TOP for $230 CAD (it's still in the box), and I've been wondering if a 3GB Sapphire R9 280 Dual-X OC ($210) would've been more worth it. :huh:

Hello everyone, So I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU to the Intel Core i5 4460(non-k edition) and I'm stumped on what motherboard I should get for it. I'm upgrading from an AMD A10-6800K on the A78 chipset. Also, I am not planning to overclock any components of my build including this upgrade. These questions are possibly so commoon that everyone is sick to the teeth of it. I know the radeon is cheaper and thats exactly why Im asking this. I live in Ireland so getting these isnt a local job, willl be more than likely be getting it off of Amazon.co.uk. I play Dota(as you could guess) and Im not going for all out performace. I just need something that gets me decent framerates (above 10-15fps) and will last me a relatively long time (5-6 years) Would love the feedback

Hey there. I bought a R9 280 X-Edition (not R9 280x) from VTX3D last summer and now two questions have arised. 1. Using HWInfo x64 or MSIAfterburner I can see that the card only goes up to 855Mhz core clock even though it is rated at 960Mhz, changing core clock or power limit in Afterburner does nothing. (Pic of Afterburner screen is attached.) What can I do to get the full power? Using Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and a Corsair CX750M 750W PSU. 2. The card has a dual fan cooler on wich does a good job of keeping the gpu cool but it blows the air into the case instead of out of the back. Can I do something about that? When playing something demanding my case gets kind of warm and my HDDs reach temps of above 40°C. I want to seal the long side with duct tape so that it can only go out the back. Is that a terrible idea?

Do you think that an core I3 4130 would bottle neck an R9 280 or not in most modern games, or should I try to get a better CPU and a cheaper GPU, like an I5 and a 750ti?

For reference, here's my specs OS: Windows 7 x64 MOBO: Gigabyte GA970a-ud3p CPU: FX-6300 GPU: Gigabyte Windforce R9 280 3GB RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage(8gb) PSU: Antec Edge 650w Monitor: ASUS VX239H So today I received my new PC (I had a company build for me and ship to me). I tried to boot, and got very scared when nothing happened. I unplugged the HDMI cable I was using, and used a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter to use the display port on the graphics card. This worked and the PC booted, I put it down to a missing HDMI driver. So now, with windows installed, I go to update all my drivers. When they were installed, I rebooted, and then the problems started. The screen got past the "Windows Starting" but then had horizontal lines all over the desktop. Windows then seems to crash, everything goes black, and the only way to get out is to power the PC off. I booted into safe mode, removed all drivers using DDU, and tried again, to no avail. I'm starting to think I may have a faulty card. Please, any help would be much appreciated

Hey guys, I'm trying to decide between two graphics cards, A Radeon R9 285 from Powercolor that costs £139.99 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-175-PC&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1983 and a Radeon R9 280 from MSI that costs £149.99 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-251-MS I'll be using them on one 1080p monitor for playing games like Company of Heroes 2, Cities: Skylines, Gran Theft Auto 5 and Garry's Mod. From what I've been reading up, the 280 has more VRAM so better for large textures like in Skyrim and probably GTA5 when it finally comes out (and potentially more future proof maybe?) but the 285 performs a little bit better in frame rates and is based on newer GCN technology. To be honest I'm not to bothered about things like Freesync or TrueAudio just yet, I will when the 300 series comes out and I buy my ultra high end graphics card, this is something I'm investing in for a couple of months until the 300 series is released and the prices normalize a bit (as they're always crazy when they just come out!). So looking for your ideas guys on which is better purely for playing games, thanks!

Does anybody know if AMD or Rockstar released a fix for the glitches yet in GTA:V? I have tried and tried to adjust my settings to fix all the bugs but have managed to still have issues, also if I play for about twenty-minutes or so Windows displays a message saying that my system is low on memory. So basically I already ordered every part expect gpu. And would like a opinion for it. What should I take r9 280 3gb for € 190 or r9 380 4gb €244. Or better question is it worth € 60 more. Thanks p.s. for € 220 is r9 380 4gb GIGABYTE GV-R938G1 with lover clock speed.

PowerColor TurboDuo R9 280 3GB ~~VS~~ XFX Black Edition Double D R9 280 3GB Which one? Hey guys, I would like to get your opinion on a comparison of these two cards. I am a first time PC builder, and I am very strongly considering these two cards to go into my build. I am really opting to get these because of the price (both ~$180 USD, both 280's). The PowerColor has only 2 reviews on NewEgg, and many of the PowerColor products seem to have very few reviews which leads me to be that it is somewhat of an "off-brand" which again makes me question it's reliability. But, having that said, both reviews are 5/5, and the reviews on other products seem to be decent. On the Flip-side of this, XFX seems to be more well-known (and definitely more reviewed) than PowerColor. Again, the reviews seem relatively positive except on the 280 and 280X. Screen artifacts and tearing seem to be common in the problematic reviews and many mention that this card runs hot and (again as a new PC builder) I'm not sure how bad or how much of an issue this is. So, in short, I am most concerned about the reliability/longevity of these two cards. I really like these both due to the cheap price and 3GB VRAM. I am open to other suggestions and I am VERY grateful for any feedback. -Thanks, GH4

So i have Arma 3, (this is seriously annoying me so any help is welcomed), and arma is being a b**** to run sometimes cutting down to 20 fps. Could anyone post some settings purely for fps? Specs: I5-4460 Corsair Vengance 8gb 1600mhz Gigabyte Windforce R9 280 Those are the important specs, but if anymore are required then just message me. Any advice,except overclocking, is gratefully accepted.

In the mean time I thought I'd ask the question if my setup will be enough for Star Citizen My build: AMD A-10 6800k @ 4.1GHz Non-OC'd Sapphire Radeon R9 280 OC Edition - No additional overclocking Gigabyte GA-F2A78M-D3H 1x120mm front fan + 1x80mm exhaust fan Comment below what you think I can get out of Star Citizen in graphics settings and resolution. I am looking at buying a new GPU to replace my 2 GTS 450s. I am interested in the R9 280. Newegg has a deal on the XFX R9 280 for $150. Should I grab one of these or wait for the R9 380? In this article (http://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-300-series-pricing-confirmed-aggressive/) it says that the R9 380 4GB will be $235. In the future I plan to buy a 4K monitor. Should I wait? Thanks!
