Main question here is that , is HDD Write speed important for gaming ? I have just now purchased an seagate expansion 4TB external hard disk (ST4000DM004 drive) and on running the HDD trough crystal bench I was able to see bizarre results. The drive was having around 180MBPS read speed but the sequential Writes were merely just 37 MBPS !!!! I know that this drive has SMR (Shingled magnetic Recording) but is it this worse . I am only going to use this drive as an extended storage in my PS4, so will it be fine for my usage .

Hi!!! I own a Ps4 Pro (1TB), which I bought in November 2019. I now have no free-space to add new games. I purchase approximately 6-7 games each year. Should I buy a 2 TB hard-drive or a 4TB one (The difference in the price is about 20-30$)? ***I don’t want to buy a new hard drive for the next 3-4 years*** ***Seagate hard drive***

In this article titled "Give Your PS4 a Speed Boost While You Wait For a PS5": http://superjumpmagazine.com/give-your-ps4-a-speed-boost-while-you-wait-for-a-ps5-2432bec8b7e8 It says putting a cheap $35 250gb SSD inside the PS4 just for the OS, and reusing the stock drive externally for games will prevent the menu lag and stuttering on the PS4. Does anyone have experience in doing this?

Hi, everyone. My brother has been facing an issue which he is unable to fix. Due to his carelessness during washing a device with mobile servicing thinner liquids, he dropped some of the thinner liquid over his PS4 shell. When he realised he immediately tried to soak those drops of liquid but that even made this worse. I observed a part of the surface of PS4 shell became grey where the liquid fell off. And he is unable to clean as it seems either fixed to the surface or non-removable. Some photos were attached herewith for your convenience to understand. Is there any way to remove and clean this grey spot and back to the previous normal colour of the surface? Thanks in advance.

Long story short i wanted to watch an old movie I had on a DVD and plugged the thing in my PS4. I got carried away and ended up not watching the thing but leaving the disk inside the PS4 and when i went to pull it out I noticed a spot on it of what seemed like to be mold. What i am more worried about is did I infect the disk drive in the PS4 and now there are tons of spores in the console? Dose anyone have a clue about it?

Hello, this is an issue I've been having with my monitor since November. My monitor tends to go black for a second and come back on at random, and I'm not sure why. The monitor could be fine for weeks or days then happen. There's no specific pattern that I've noticed. It's been happening ever since I started using HDMI and DVI (I originally only used VGA). At first I thought it was my PC's graphics card, but it also happens when my sister used the same monitor to play her PS4. I have tried switching HDMI cables, switching to DVI, switching DVI cables (I even bought a new cable a week ago) and tried different systems (Two PCs and PS4). Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is this a sign that this monitor is on its way out? I did get this from my dad's job in 2019. I'm completely out of ideas. My monitor is an Asus ProArt PA249Q if that helps. EDIT: I should also include that the issue has NEVER happened when using VGA, so maybe I could try getting a DVI to VGA converter and seeing, but still continue to respond if you have any fixes!

The long and short of it is I have an HDMI cable running from my ps4 pro to my elgato 4k60 pro mk.2 and out from there to my LG oled tv. The problem is if I want to stream and capture my ps4 game play I have to disable HDCP on the ps4. But if I do that I can't use my Playstation to stream Netflix, Hulu, vrv, etc. Is there an easy fix? or is there some kind of hardware that would allow me to connect a 2nd output (one to the elgato and the other to the tv) I'd much rather change sources on my television and/or an HDMI switch than move the cable around everytime I use Netflix.

So recently i thought about how can i make my ps4s more mobile. And i've come to an idea, that why just cant we use a laptop case and build everything on it. I saw couple boys already done something like it, but finish product was chungus. If somebody have ideas how to make something like that please join me in my brainstorming.

I got a wireless Bluetooth headphone, and I want to use it on my PS4. Currently, I bought a dongle that takes Toslink / Optical Audio and send it to my headphone, but it can only transmit audio. I know that there are wireless headphones that uses a dongle to connect to the PS4, like the Sony Gold Wireless Headset, but don't want to buy more headphones. Is there a dongle that can both receive mic inputs and transmit audio to my wireless headphone?

Okay, so I have genuinely done a tonne of looking into this and there is no straightforward and direct guide on how to do this or if it is possible anywhere that I can find. I want to convert a stock Dualshock 4 controller from having a plug and play Micro USB port to a hardwired cable terminating in USB Type A. I don't want to change anything else, just convert to a hardwired USB cable. Reason being the PS4 controller has always been my favourite fighting game controller for PC but no matter how many I have gone through I always end up with the same issue of the Micro USB port being really sensitive to motion and disconnecting intermitently when the controller is even slightly jiggled in my hand. Bluetooth connection is not a feasible solution due to the amount of input delay it generates. Is anyone able to explain to me or at least point me at a guide that will show me how to terminate a USB cable for power and data onto the board? (I'm pretty competent with soldering) Is this even something that anyone has done before me? Thanks in advance

My ping is suddenly higher specifically on overwatch’s eu server. About 2 weeks ago I would get about 200-230 ping but now it’s at a constant 300ms. Nothing has changed on my end, same devices, same modem, router and isp. I could only imagine the isp has changed their route to the eu server. One thing to note is that I did have this issue about a month ago, but it seemed to be fixed once I factory reset my router. This time though, I’ve restarted, reset every network device I have but nothing improved my ping. Is there anything I can do to resolve this? As this has happened before once and it was resolved as previously mentioned. edit: forgot to mention that my ping in every other regional server on blizzard has the same latency as always.

Pretty much since I bought my PS4 a two to three years ago, I've had an issue where my screen goes black for a second or two, and sound cuts out for the moment too, then its fine. It only happens once at some point after I start the console, several minutes in, and then it never happens again. I got PSVR as well and the issue used to only happen on the TV, but eventually when it happened, it would affect the PSVR for a second as well. I've never found any help relating to this issue as anything I find always talks about regular screen flickering, which isn't my problem. I've just lived with the issue because although annoying, it doesn't usually impact me unless it happens during a cinnematic in which I miss out on some dialogue and any action in that moment. I have tried swapping out HDMI cables but it didn't make a difference, and I don't have any issues with any other consoles I use on the TV. I'm not sure what other troubleshooting there is for this. Anyone have any ideas?

I got a PS4 as a “gift” from a friend. They did tell me it has a BLOD issue. I’m not even sure if this qualifies as the BLOD but it shows the blue lights and beeps when the power button is pressed. After that, when the power button is pressed again, it just beeps and shows no lights whatsoever. I’m lost. https://streamable.com/x46y67 You can have a look at the above video. Waiting on a response, thank you! 88139570_WhatsAppVideo2021-03-09at8_23_47PM.mp4

So I have a bit of a weird one for you guys, and I'm not entirely sure I'm in the right place, but I need help so here I am. I just recently relocated my setup into a dorm room. I have a PS4, a wii u, and a custom pc rocking a Gigabyte B450m, ryzen 5 3600, 16 gigs of 3200mhz ram, a 1 terabyte SSD, and a 5600 XT to top it off. Upon setting up in my dorm, I found that my computer would post, but windows would not boot up, at least not visibly. My bios would boot no problem, but as soon as windows tried to boot I'd get a no-input message from my monitor. Booted into safe mode to check my driver's, check resolution, and all that stuff. Booted into safe mode no problem. Figured huh, that's weird, but for me to worry about a different day. Moving on to hook up my Wii U, I find that it won't display at all on my monitor. Damn, guess something must have broken in my Wii U during the move. So as a desperate attempt to play a game, any game, I hook up my PS4 and guess what, no display. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Basically my coming here is to confirm my suspicion of... Is my monitor dead? Or is it in an way shape or form just my display cable? Any help you can offer is very much so appreciated. Love u guys.

From my PS4, I would want to transfer playing COD in my PC. Unfortuantely, I do not know how I would transfer my progress (guns, xp, level, etc.) from my PS4 unto my PC. I've tried linking my PS4 account to my blizzard account from my PC but my progress from COD did not appear. Is there anyway to do fix this? Thanks.

I'm planning to buy ps4 despite the launch of the new ps5, because the console and games are cheaper than ps5 and I don't care too much about the performance of ps5. Buying ps4, will it be a good choice now and suitable for a long run?

Hello, I want to put my PS4 on a metal filing cabinet like this: I am wondering if this is a safe thing to do, as the filing cabinet isn’t as sturdy / more prone to vibration than wood. Thanks.

I have had multiple Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles: both original, slim, and pro/x models. As these consoles go EOL and show up in more numbers used or broken on sites like eBay, there are some things that can be done to keep them running and usable, and ways they can still get use. The PS4 has had one of the best library's for exclusives, and even in the next year or so, lots of games including horizons: far west will be coming to the current gen console. These consoles still make good devices for younger siblings, cousins, grandchildren to use to play games, especially with the large amount of used games and large back catalog. A lot of games can be had for cheap. Also, since all the PS4 consoles have a disc drive, if you live in rural areas with poor or very data capped internet, then the discs could be very useful to you. If you go the PS4 route, try for the pro if you plan to use it for gaming. I also recommend replacing the thermal paste in the system. Every time I buy one of these last gen consoles, I always replace the thermal paste first thing, then usually replace the HDD, since I mostly buy ones with bricked drives. I also usually put in a 1-2tb SSD. Even a QVO or other lower end SSD will do wonders, mainly in the upgraded consoles, but even in the base versions there can be big load time improvements and texture stream in improvements. IO performance from the HDD in these systems can actually hurt performance in such a way that this upgrade helps a lot: I have experienced this with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Textures load in way faster, the frame rate is far more stable, as you move around maps there is no more hitching as the drive seeks the next part of the map. If you really want to game, PS4 and PS4 Pro are phenomenal choices still, especially with the back catalog of exclusives, and even once the new consoles come down in price, the old games will be able to move forward with better performance, hopefully, to the new console. The Xbox is a different matter. I would not buy the OG VCR Xbox One, leave that one be. If you want to play games, always go for the One X. Again, thermal paste change and a drive switch are very helpful, and the One X actually can have better performance due to the higher CPU clocks and more ram than the PS4 Pro in cross platform games when moved to an SSD. The One S is a different thing all together. While I would not want to game on them, both the One S and One X are far better media machines than the PS4. They both support 4k blu-rays, support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and support Dolby vision and hdr10. Having this wide range of capability makes them actually good streaming and media playback boxes. I got my parents a One S, and they love it. I has all the streaming apps, will play their old DVD's, and I even got a VCR/DVD combo that a HDMI translator so they can play tapes using the HDMI passthrough on the console. The One X is a gaming beast, especially with an SSD to have less IO bottle necks in games, but both consoles are some of the best media machines there are, especially if you have a nice home theater setup. The Xbox Series S/X maintains this support, with the Series X being the only one to play 4k Blu-ray, and is one area that the current and next gen consoles from Microsoft are leaps and bounds ahead of Sony. Xbox game pass is also a thing to think about, if you have good internet, as having over 300 games ready to go, just download them to the machine is a very nice thing to have available. I know a lot of people do not think about replacing the thermal paste, but most people on here use pc's, and so may be more inclined to change thermal paste more regularly. I use kryonaut in all my builds, and once yearly when I do loop maintenance on my main pc, I also repaste and clean out the dust on all my consoles. Even if you use something like MX4 though, there is performance gains to be had, and repasting would not need to be yearly. The consoles though do have room for improvement in the thermal paste department, especially if they are used when you buy them. I have found I need to use a little more than I would on a pc, due to the way both consoles mount their cooling solutions, and after I have changed the paste, the fans do not spin up near as high, and there for not as loud, and there is a noticeable and measurable increase in the temperature of the air exiting the systems. Measure on the same system before and after, I went from 49 C exit temp on the One X to 58 C exit temp, and the ambient temp was ~20 C. The PS4 Pro was more dramatic, with an increase from 51 C to 65 C exit temp with ambient temp again ~20 C. These are just my consoles I have used, and as another note, before the thermal past change on the One X, it would crash after ~2 hours of gaming, and would not boot till it cooled and rested for ~1 hour. After the thermal paste change, it has been able to play for over 13 hours straight with no problems or slow downs. As for the SSD, internal is nice to have, especially for boot up, switching between apps, texture streaming, and slightly reduced power consumption and noise, as there are no moving parts. Making your own external SSD will get most of the benefits, the startup and switching apps will be slightly slower, but it would be easier to move the games to the new consoles when or if you get one. Even still, to get a little more performance from the system, an internal SSD can help a lot. Digital foundry has done many looks into the load time, but one thing to also think about is texture streaming and in level loading. Watching their Xbox One X coverage of Jedi Fallen Order, their gameplay was noticeably at a lower average framerate and more laggy in levels when loads, lots of enemies, or big texture streams came in, with large dips in framerates when fighting enemies or loading more of the level. I did not experience any of the on my One X with an internal SSD, there were no loading hangs, slowdowns due to enemy and terrain stream in, and way less loading time. This was in 4k, and it was pretty locked at 30fps, but even in performance mode, it stuck closer to 502sh according to my monitors built in frame counter. These are just my thoughts, and what I have done and experienced over the last generation. I do not think that these will fix issues in games like Cyberpunk, it could make them a little less bad, but honestly I do not think it will be that helpful, as that game has horrible optimization for these consoles. I think these areas are being overlooked, and as more of the newer consoles come out, picking up the older consoles for cheap for extra gaming systems for family members, old school system link on the Xbox's for lan parties after covid, media playing machines for guest rooms or home theater setups, and maybe even just to have and tinker with could be something to look into. I have bought lots of One X's and PS4 Pro's that have had HDD or HDMI failures. HDD failures are easier to fix, as long as the drive is not dead, it can be reformatted to be reflashed as it would in the factory, or if replaced with an SSD, then can be put in a pc or plex server or the like as extra storage. Just something to think about as the old consoles flood the second hand market.

Hi. Im thinking of buying a Playstation 4, but im not too sure what to get. So I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the difference betweena PS4 (orginal) and a PS4 slim since they are the easiest to find and buy second hand. And how would they perform with games like Farcry 5, Cod, and those types of games?

So as you know stocks of the new PS5 are basically non-existent at the moment. I currently own a xbox one S. I am planning on upgrading to a playstation. Should I wait for a PS5 or get a PS4 Pro now and save some money?

Title. I currently have 2.1 ch. Creative speakers with subwoofer which I got about 9 years ago. I'm looking for an upgrade that will perform well in music and games. But my one specific need is that it should have dual input so that I can use the same speaker for my PC and PS4 (through monitor's 3.5mm jack). Another question, is a speaker upgrade worth it at all? I don't know how much audio technology has improved over the years. Or should I buy inexpensive speakers just for the ps4? I was planning to hit two birds with one stone by just getting a single speaker that would provide both an upgrade and dual input, but I need more advice. Thanks.
