Hello guys, I am planning a switch to Arch when my new SSD comes in, I have been testing it for over 4 months now, and to my relief it is actually getting worse performance than my Ubuntu 22.04 LTS install for the first time in Quake Champions which is one of the games I love to play in my free time. On Ubuntu it gets 300FPS (300 being the cap which is the maximum cap for that game) and on Arch (as of recently) it gets 67-80FPS which is really unexpected, as there has been no change in the software I run on Arch (unless you include the updates I did). By the way I just did a sudo pacman -Syu and the system is up to date as of 11th April. My GPU is an Nvidia card, I use proprietary drivers on both my machines, most specifically the 550 drivers (Arch has the 550.67 drivers and Ubuntu has the 550.54 drivers). My DE on Arch is Plasma 6 and GNOME on Ubuntu. I use Wayland on both systems and it pretty much is the only thing that can help me, a person who has multiple mixed refresh rate monitors. Especially with the Explicit DRM Sync merge and the upcoming 555 drivers implementing Explicit Sync in May (according to Nvidia at least) the future looks really bright. Do you have any suggestions on what may be the reason of these problems? Also, if you do have fixes you implemented or you know of tell them. Thank you very much for reading. Hello all, I have purchased a Steam Deck. I haven't received it yet, but I was curious to know what those of you that own one have to say about it. I'm most interested in knowing what you all have noticed in terms of game performance increases per proton update. Also would like to know everyone's opinion on the new OLED version. Just trying to get a feel for what to watch out for and what to expect.

Hello, I have a problem that came up after I did a system update. I had a working install of Stalker Gamma, but after updating the system, the setup stopped working. I added modorganizer as a non steam game and used steamtinkerlaunch to setup gamemode, winetricks dlls, dxvk and proton. After trying different suggestions I found regarding the problem and different errors I still wind up with the same message in the steamtinkerlaunch logs, that it can't find the wineserver. I already tried looking for other wine processes that may interfere, but there are none, and when the game launches, I can see the wineserver running in KSysGuard. I attached the log just in case I missed anything important. I really hope someone can help. 2856918873.log

Hello everybody, so I recently switched from a Dual-Boot to Debian completely. It's been good for so far, but I can't get Bloons TD6 to work with Proton. I tried different versions, I've tried GE-Proton and nothing seems to work. On Proton DB most reviews are showing no complications at all. What should I do to get it working?

I just saw this video posted in r/SteamDeck and was hoping to get some LTT eyes on the topic. It appears as though the input latency of the Steam Deck is between 2 to 3 times longer than a PC or other console. Is it possible that the experiment conducted in this video just wasn't done with precise enough hardware? Or maybe the Deck just performs poorly in Rocket League? Would really like to see a video from LTT now covering this since they've done such a great job in the past on the subject of input latency. I don't know what do you all think?

so i attempted to run Space Engineers and got a 4.6 .net error (basically game refuses to launch without it being fixed) I am wondering if there is a way to A) find a copy of said hotfix because trying to download didnt work. B) running Linux Mint 20.2 UMA with steam proton. if there is a way to inject a copy of [dot] net framework into a proton build if so, how? need walk-through of steps = simpleton style / super noob im not running Wine, Winetricks or Lutris

Uh so, I noticed that the number of borked games in the Top 100 of Steam on protonDB dropped from being at 12 to just 11. Did someone notice a game getting available, or could it be that a game slipped from Top 100 down to the Top 1000?

Is there a certain way to install windows programs on proton? Steam is installed and warthunder is working. But I cant get the others to run. Is there a certain folder or step. As there is a different file tree I would think there is some other step.

Valve just announced their SteamPal project, the handheld gaming pc called the "SteamDeck". It will run Linux. (SteamOS to be precise) While it is nice to finally see a switch competitor. SteamDeck will undoubtedly help Linux Gaming, since it won't just give light to it but will also finally allow some of the pesky Anti-Cheats to run under proton! Every single Linux gamer hates EAC because it has stopped us from playing our favourite online games numerous times. Has anyone here had any success getting OG Crysis running in Proton? I've tried many of the solutions on ProtonDB and have tried Proton-GE but the most I get is a black screen. Crysis 2 works fine. Haven't tried any of the other Crysis games tho. I'm running a distro based off Ubuntu 20.04, Nvidia Driver 460, kernel 5.11. Any ideas anyone? Thanks!

My cpu normally runs around 1.1-1.7Ghz at idle, but when I open Warframe and get in-game, the clock drops to 798Mhz (minimum frequency) and stays there until it really needs to go up, which causes stuttering and lag, super annoying. The cpu temps are fine, sitting around 60-70C, so its not a thermal issue, I have tried Proton 5.21-GE-1 as well as 4.2-9 (Proton GE and 4.2-9 are the only two that work with Warframe) they both have the same issue, although Proton GE also makes frames appear to load out of order, giving a shaky feel to the game, making it unplayable. The only cpu related software I have installed is Corectrl, in which I have tried every cpu frequency governor and they all give the same result. Specs: Intel Core i7-4600u Intel HD 4400 HP Elitebook Revolve 810 G2 OS Info: Manjaro KDE 20.2 Kernel 5.10.2-2 64-bit I just want to make it clear that this issue ONLY occurs in Warframe, no other game, and that the cpu is NOT overheating, it sits around 60-70C under load. This issue appears to be very rare from what I can tell, no one on ProtonDB has this issue in Warframe, so I am assuming it is not specifically due to the game and is being affected by something else, but again, this issue does only appear in Warframe, no other games or apps. The graph shows the cpu clock, as you can see it drops down to minimum when warframe opens

I did a benchmark test at 1080p saw a youtube benchmark and the all ultra was 70-55 fps. im getting 60-45 fps. on linux running through steam. is this normal for a p106, or is something else wrong? i have 16 ram gigs, and an 8086k mostly stock. Is this a wine thing or is my gpu running slow?

Fix in-game web browser in some games including Bloons TD 6. Fix new crashes related to text input, especially in Unreal Engine 4 games including Mordhau and Deep Rock Galactic. Update D9VK to 0.20. The number of fixed games is large and this is just a partial list: A Hat in Time experiences better frame rates for me with D9VK than it does with Windows 7’s implementation. There is no in game benchmark, but the numbers for looking at the room in the space ship while bouncing on the cheeseburger on my GeForce GTX 1070 are roughly: 150 FPS Windows 7 native 170 FPS Windows 7 D9VK 160 FPS Proton 4.11-3 D9VK I did not do recent tests on Proton without D9VK, but my recollection is that performance is less than half of those numbers without it. The driver versions were 431.60 on Windows and 430.40 on Linux, which despite the version number differences, should be equivalent. It should be noted that D9VK must be explicitly enabled through the launch options per game because it is still experimental. Doing `PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%` will enable it. There is some minor stutter in D9VK, but this goes away quickly and stays gone across runs due to the state cache. Lastly, the change does not mention a few fixes. One of the unmentioned fixes is a fix to make “Are you ready for Valve Index?” stop crashing that I wrote last week: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/2616 It is awesome how responsive Valve has been to a third party developer fixing it for them. That software still has a couple issues such as detecting Linux as Windows 7 (the target for Proton at the moment) and failing to detect USB 3.0 support, but not crashing is a nice step forward.

I'm looking to buy a CPU and I'm torn between the 2700x and the 9700k. I want the possibility for some light, occasional streaming and the 2700x with its higher thread count is supposed to be better for that. I want to be able to run linux though using proton for games and intel is supposed to be better for that. Just wondering if anyone else running linux has experience with either or both processors and could shine some light on the topic. Side note: I am a programmer and I have used both AMD and intel for compiling code and such. I haven't found much difference in development for either platform but if anyone knows any different I'd love to hear it.
