I'm developing an iOS app that displays store locations on a map using Apple Maps (MapKit). I've limit the number of icons that can be displayed on the map to 100, but there's still huge performance issues and the app is very laggy even on modern iPhone models. What's the best practice when displaying a large number of icons on a map, should the icons be in PNG format with a small resolution (~10kb) or should the icons be vector (SVG) for best performance? Should I use the MapKit framework for iOS 17 or the UIKit approach?

Got several large text files that often I want to compare the differences off. Many browser "apps" stop half way through cause it takes too long or they just highlight complete tosh that's wrong, nor do I know about their data policy and what they do with the data I submit. Is there some offline version or one that can handle at least 20k characters? Best example is the Gits version control where it highlights the difference from the previous compared file.

Is there a way to display the GPU (graphics card) workload usage as a percentage for Apple Silicon M-series Mac with Swift & Xcode? CPU monitoring works. GPU monitoring seems impossible. I only get the workload for the current app, but total GPU workload for the whole system is impossible to figure out for me. Any ideas how to do this?

Hello, Linustechtips forumites! I love this place. I hope this is an appropriate forum, for I have a serious question... My father is a programmer and worked for many years in that profession. This was great for a long time, but he has a condition called retinitis pigmentosa, which means that his vision will degrade (even unto blindness) over time. He has reached the point where he cannot read a screen anymore. He has a screen reader, but he is 3/4 deaf and needs hearing-aids to hear normally. He has a hard time understanding the difference between 'b' and 'd' and 'x' and 's' when spoken or read by the screen reader. He wants to be productive and use his skills to help people: he really likes to make other people's jobs (and lives) easier through his work. Or just to be doing something that is good. He cannot travel easily, and video chats are also hard for him. So that's the short of it. What I would like: thoughts and ideas to help him be a productive part of society and to help him have income. I will be attending school soon (away from home), so I won't be able to help as much as I have in the past. Please, what do you think would be good for him to do?

Budget: Under $2000 United States My dad made the mistake of buying a dell computer that has horrid cooling and I can hear the fans ramping up full; he has only had this desktop for 3-4 years; it has a Xeon chip and Quadro graphics card with 64 gigs of ram and 2 m.2 nvme drives. He uses the computer for emails, thunderbird, web browsing, watching Netflix, communication through Microsoft teams, chrome and Microsoft edge open with lots of tabs, one note, etc. He uses visual studio, eclipse, powershell, copilot, esri ArcGIS pro; (spatial data, advanced mapping analytics, 2d 3d and 4d visualizations) IntelliJ idea; JavaScript, typescript, kotlin, react, vue, angular, node.js) He also programs in bash and C sharp He has all of these things open at once on a 4k monitor@60hz He was thinking of an i9-13900 with a score of 48,088 on cpubenchmark.net (passmark) and wants the next pc to be around 50,000 (but it can be lower as long as it can run everything he uses) I was hoping he would build his next computer but he is thinking of buying a dell alienware laptop :(. I told him it wouldn’t have as good cooling as building a desktop. So what parts (cpu) amd or intel would be good for his workload, also what gpu (he doesn’t game) but I was thinking like a cheap Radeon card; an all amd build with smart access memory (or intel build) would be good for his workload? Basically intel or amd with 64 gigs of ram a decent motherboard and would fit in a mAtx/mini itx like this one https://a.co/d/i01WITR And if he did buy a laptop what brand/model would be good for his work? (Please link a couple options)

This is mostly out of curiosity Let's say that I write some functionality in C++ and it works in Windows 11 just fine. 1. Does it mean that it will work in just about any machine as long as it's Windows 11? 2. Would it work on any Windows version? Like Windows 10 3. What if I developed it in Ubuntu 22, would it work in future and past Ubuntu versions? 4. Would it work on different Linux distros? I have seen a handful of different compilers for C++ , hence the question Tagging @wasab as I have seen him mention this language

Hi! I want to buy a new laptop that can last for the next 3-5 years. I need the laptop mostly for programming and for sometimes I would like to be able to play some older games(not the newest AAA games). Overall I want a laptop that has a quite good battery time and also has the performance to run heavy duty tasks too. My old laptop was a HP Pavilion 15 series and had a lot of battery issues, I had 2 battery changes in the last 3 years since I bought the machine and it only operated about 1.5-2 hours on battery when used for working. My budget for the new machine is about a ~1000 EUR. Can you please help me out with suggestion? I am not that familiar with the current trends/capabilities of laptops. Thank you in advance!

Budget (including currency): 2500 EUR Country: Netherlands Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Study - reading, writing reports, coding and programming. Playing Valorant and other AAA Games like Baldur's gate, Elden ring, cyberpunk, Hogwarts legacy etc. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc.): I have made a pcpartpicker list, pls check it out - https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/RMC328 - Basically I need more than 200 fps in valorant and for coding I need to run Julia and simulation programs like Matlab, python etc. Hi, I just made this build at pcpartpicker after skimming through the forum and watching some YouTube videos and since I am starting my studies this year, I require upgrade from my laptop to a pc with which I can study, code and game at the same time. Hopefully this is quite good, and it fits my budget, let me know if any suggestions or upgrades are required for this build.

I am studying game design at university with a touch of software engineering, and need a new laptop for schoolwork. I have found two good sales in my country and initially wanted to go for the cheaper one (The Lenovo IdeaPad 3i, with a core I3). However, it only has an I31115G4 as CPU, which only has two cores. The system otherwise has decent reviews, with 8 gb of RAM (upgradeable), 512gb SSD, good build and a mediocre screen. The more expensive laptop is around 160 USD more on sale (The ThinkPad X13 Gen 2), but uses an AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600U processor which, according to AMD https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-5-5600u sports 6 cores and more cache. In addition, this system has 16 gb RAM, the same amount of storage and a much better screen. While reviews for this computer are more mixed, this is due to its higher price point. However, I can get it for 50% off and the overall quality of the laptop should be at least as good as the other one. Crucially, this system does not come with an operating system pre installed, so I would have to find a cheap windows 10/11 key myself. While the first laptop can also be had with an I5, the discount on the second means that it makes more sense to buy that one if an I3 doesn't fit my needs. I am going to be doing some web development, light 3d modelling, basic Java programming, programming in Unity using C#, and perhaps some database stuff as well. So here is my dilemma: I have been considering buying a desktop for gaming use and homework at home, so I don't necessarily need the fastest system or the best screen. However, I will need to program and do some homework at university, so long compile times would definitely hinder my studies. On the other hand, the money saved could be used on a desktop at home. While I can afford either system without too much issue, I am not so rich that I can just throw money away unnecessarily. So TLDR: Are two cores in a modern laptop enough for comfortable programming?

I am facing an issue where when I right click any folder and select "Git bash here" it show's "Application not found". I have tried to make changes in windows registry but it didn't work and I've also reinstalled the program many times. I am not sure what is causing this issue. If anyone has faced the same issue and have resolved it please share your diagnosing steps. My current operating system is Windows 10 Pro, version 21H2.

Hey guys, I could really use some help choosing a suitable laptop for my bachelors program. From next year I’ll be starting my undergraduate program for computer science and Engineering and I want to buy a new laptop to take me through (at least) my bachelor of 3 years. I want it to have optimal specs for CS related tasks with graphical capabilities for rendering and editing videos. I also want to be able to do light to medium load AI/ML stuff on it. Does anyone here have any suggestions/tips for some things I should be specifically looking for in the laptop I am going to buy? Are there any suitable models / brands that come to mind which have proven to be reliable and a good choice for my purposes? Just some things to keep in mind: - My budget is about €2500 - I live in the Netherlands so I should be able to buy it ( cuz I heard some models are continent specific or something? ) Thank you in advance

Hi all! I am part of a student-organisation trying to organise a cultural family event for ~200 people. We would like to involve the children by organising quizzes tournament via phone or tablet. As we are student-run, we are quite limited in terms of budgeting. My initial idea was to use Kahoot, but due to the amount of participants, its not possible to use the basic subscription. I am looking at other applications, but I am yet to find a solid-solution. I was hoping that I can find some solutions/ideas in this forum. Description of a perfect scenario: 7 Booths in total Each booth has a quiz Participant's result can be traced and monitored Leaderboard is monitored by the organisers I'm also a computer science student, so I'm open to programmable solutions as well. I have experience with C++, C# and Python. (Very little experience with web-development ) Any ideas or guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks! Arief.

Hello, so about 1 and a half years ago I thought I found a sort of vaunerability with google maps and over the following months investigateted it further I will go into more details in a secound and would like a discussion and hear your thoughts but mainly I would like to have you informed about this issue because it could affect youreself. If I have spelling mistakes or my grammar is wrong please correct me English isn't my native language. I will update this Topic with mor detailed information when I get all of my notes together ^^ The "vulnerability" First of all I asked 2 companys which sad it isn't eligable for bug bounty so please don't spam random Companys with this article -thx When you are googleing a company or a location google will normaly show you the Google Buisness information that they gathered by helpful locals or websites so google is able to display the Information to you. The Problem is that (at least in my county Germany and I think in others as well) Buisnisses don't claim there Buisness on Google, that leads to the problem that -someone- could enter false Information. To be fair depending on how drastic your changes are to the data that google shows more people will have to report or confirm that information. I don't know how to programm a bot who could do that, but I have had time so I tried how much you could change and found this: Change the Telephone number by 1 number: 1 User Change the thelephone number by 2 numbers: 1 User (sometimes 2) Change the telephone number by more than 2 numbers: Changes drasticly from buisness to buisness but arround 10 Users with local guide or 18 without To change the website I think arround 5 Users have to say the same thing and the website has to have the buisness information. -I didn't focus on this as much as on the thelephone number why will be described in a secound. The Problem with chainging the telephone number: When a telephone number is active on a location/ buisness it takes about [2-8] months for the Claim your buisness function to accept verivication by telephone again. A Person with malishes intend could use a telephone numer and send every incoming call automaticly back to the original number so noby would notice that this would be the wrong number NOBODY CHECKS A WORKING PHONE NUMBER IF ITS "REAL" OR NOT The second you are able to verify via phone number you could turn the call forwarding off to recive the call and verify a buisness wich isn't yours. When you verivied that you "own" that location/ buisness you are able to cainge the information shown on google without confirmation That leads to one of the main vulnerabilitis: You can change the Buisness Website to a simular domain wich 1 Displays a fake website to grab Information 2 Have a cookie grabber and forward you to the real website you the user wouldnt notice The other main vulnerability is that nobody questions if the google bisnes owner is the real buisness owner so you could post events and discounts on the google page this would lead to a lot op upset custimers and a bad buisness reputation. The thired one is that [I think] you could record the calls that you would forward to the other number if you would connect them vai your server but I'm not shure about this last one because to be honest I don't have the tecincal epertise but would like to here from you if you are more skiled in this topic. How to protect youreself: You don't really have another choice as to claim your google buisness and check your data regulary This also apllies if you are not a buisness in case you are a cities office or something like that you may have to ability to take out the ability that people change your data but not shure (again) Before I posted this I talked to my local Police and a few buisnesses who are effected I can't contact all of you and I really want to make shure nobody will be harmed by this so I wanted to get the word out. If you have any questions or something like that feel free to ask I will make a reddit thread as well but its late and I probibly will post the link here tomorrow Reposts and follow ups are hoped for I you do I would love some credit ^^ Stay save Fabian

So I have started taking Python 3 courses and it's my first programming language. I am trying to make a funny magic 8-ball program, but something isn't adding up and I keep getting an "invalid keyword argument" error while executing. I am certain it's probably something silly and simple, but it's still evading me. Also, this is my first day learning. I appreciate any help and tips!

Hey guys, so I'm going to sell a program I made to the local dirt oval racing club. But I'm not sure what the price should be? I had an idea that I'd want to ask R3000 for it (about 200 USD). Is it too high? Keep in mind, that this is the first program that I ever made at a "professional" scale, I also just recently finished high school. So I don't know if I'm maybe asking too much? If so, what should my asking price be? Thanks in advance for the advice! Kind Regards PrimeMinister

To preface this, I'm a total newbie with Arduino and OOP in general. My current project is an automatic pet feeder, and I just need to make an SG90 mini-servo rotate 90 degrees and back, and repeat that action every 6 hours. No idea how to do this, any help would be great.

Graphics card will be upgraded in the future/when available. All peripherals are taken care of, would potentially get some higher resolution monitors in the future as well. Also, I got the case purely for looks, would it be upgradeable, will everything fit in the future, it's mid-atx, was really looking to get a full ATX instead like InWin 805 Look forward to hearing any tips and advice, Cheers!
