Hey guys! So this seems like an obvious question but my teacher for computer science is really bad. What does "this.something" mean in Java. I see it all the time when people try to help me and it really pisses me off that I can't actually benefit from their help because my teacher hasn't taught me that. If someone could explain it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi guys! I have this little lab to do for computer science class but I'm having trouble. I admit that during the class that my teacher explained this, I wasn't paying attention, but all he went over is how to use the math class that is included in the java library so I could look that up and how to use it. I was wondering if someone could just explain to me that second paragraph. I don't quite understand how instance variables play a roll in making a random number generator. Wouldn't you just make a method that generates the number and takes input and then just reference it in the main method? I'm not looking for anyone to do it for me, I just want someone to essentially help me to understand that second paragraph and how instance variables would come into play in a case like this. Hey guys, I'm still a student but i earn a lot of money from programming, filming and editing. I already have (new) what you might call a "beast of a pc". I'm planning to build a new workstation so that i could actually hire a professional to work for me and do some of my video and most of my photo editing. While i focus on Unity and school. click here for the list any suggestions? and my main problem is should i go for 2 titan blacks, a titan z, 2 titan zs or wait for their new counterparts to come out. P.S. i have a budget ceiling of $15000, also suggestions on some redundant or absurd parts i have would be great

This is a followup to a post I made a while ago about IDE's for programming C++. I have since got Ubuntu running on a VM on my desktop so now I can use linux to program rather than windows like I did Java when I was learning that. This is something that popped up in the previous thread that made me a bit confused: How many different versions of C++ are there? And how different are they? For example, how different would programming for a windows computer be vs.. A phone for example if I'm trying to create the exact same game? And which version would be ideal to start from to just get familiar with the language?

So I'm looking to get into Android programming and would like a good book to help. I'm already decent at Java/general OOP so I just need to learn the Android side of things. I need something that's recent(Android 4.2+) and preferably uses the new Android Studio tools instead of Eclipse. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Hi! I am currently 2 months into my International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. I am doing Computer Science at Higher Level with Object-oriented Programming (Java). I have to do an internal assesment, where I am supposed to make a larger project. I am allowed to use any programming-language I want. Beucase of this, I want to realise one of my ideas for a mobile-app. The thing is, I have never worked with UI's or anything graphical before. The app I am talking about is a very, very basic 2d game that is supposed to teach you some basic elements of physics. I have read that Android primarily uses Java, and that iOS is using Objective-C annd x-code. Where do you suggest that I start? Which book/course should I start looking at in order to be able to write simple apps for Android and iOS? Thanks!

So i need to write software for a router that we are building for a 1st semester project and I've run into a bit of a hurdle. I need to write some kind of a script which will tell me which devices are currently connected to the wifi network but I have no idea how to do so and google is not helping me at all. Does anyone have some programming experience and know how to do this? We are working with python preferably.

1) So how can I input different numbers in different lines without having to press enter , in other words , is there anyway to write a code like cout<<sth<<endl; , but with cin ??? Ex: input should look like this : 80000 250000 37000 2) is there a way to know if the output of a square root will be an integer or not ? 3) what code shall I use to add consecutive numbers whose total number is the input? , Ex; input is 10 m so it's supposed to add 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10

Hello everyone I am a computer engineer student. I need to build computer primarily for programming. I started a build with pcpartpicker, but when I finish the build it look more like a gaming pc. Since I am still new to the whole computer world, can any one give me any tips to what would make a great programming computer. Also I do want to be able to render videos quickly as possible. Hi guys. So I'm a computer science major and I'm feeling like a complete noob lately because my personal project portfolio has nothing. I've been thrown the task of creating an open source web application (for my personal portfolio) and I just don’t know where to start. I learn by doing projects on my own, but this project was just a lot and I'm not sure what to begin with other than an idea obviously. Basically, do any of you guys have any tips on how to actually implement applications on your own? Where should I start after having an idea? Advice for anything including what your experiences were in developing stuff, things you wish you knew, etc etc would be much appreciated! Thanks for any help guys ^^

I am trying to solve a few problems and got stuck with these three. #1 Area of a triangle is given by the formula A = sqrt[s(S-a)(S-b )(S-c)] where a, b and c are sides of the triangle 2S = a + b + c. Write a program to compute the area of the triangle given the values of a, b and c. #2 Write a program to determine and print the sum of the following harmonic series for a given value of n: 1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + ... + 1/n The value of n should be given interactively through the terminal. #3 Write a program that prints the even numbers from 1 to 100. I'm building a computer soon and i need to pick the parts i will be using but i cant pick. Can you help me pick a motherboard, CPU and GPU. The computer will be used for Gaming and Game Programming. I would like to have a total price of these components at a maximum of £550 ($900~). I would also like these to stay in-date for a year at least.

So, I was wondering how I make an executable program from my program I've written in Java so some of my friends can play with it. This is probably basic knowledge to most of you here, but I have searched for an answer for a few weeks now, until I decided to ask the nice people on this forum. Hello guys i am thinking on taking lessons of programming but i don't what should i choose either C++/C or java or any other thing you guys recommend, in the past i have used Visual Basic, some program that according to my professor is similar to java called Karel and that is pretty much it about my programming experience.

Hey guys. I had an idea for some software I'd like to have developed, but I don't have the programming skills to do it. My idea is "Jam Time", basically Popcorn Time for music. If you're going to make it, please make it open source. I think it would be cool if it worked with XMBC. Maybe Android support? If you have any ideas, feel free to post them below. I'm working as hard as I can to become a programmer and learn as much as possible. Except I run Ubuntu 12.04LTS and I'm finding the programming not noob-friendly and I want something noob friendly. I've had allot of problems with Windows but is it worth switching back to get more noob-friendly programming. I've ran multiple virtual machines in Linux to try and do programming but its far from the same as doing it when your only using Windows. So I want to see what you think. Thanks in advance

I am currently looking into computer parts, and right now these are the parts that I've selected for this computer: CPU - Intel i7 4770k MOBO - Asus Maximus VI Hero LGA 1150 z87 RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8gb (4gb*2) 1600 GPU - Asus directcu II GTX 780 3gb CPU cooler - Corsair H100i SSD - Samsung 840 Evo 250gb HDD - WD Blue 1TB 7,200RPM PSU - Corsair RM850 Case - NZXT Phantom 530 (really like the feature and fan hub) Extras - Corsair SP120 (2 fans) High Pressure 120mm for the H100i Bitfenix red led strip (for show) I just want to know if I anyone had any suggestions to maybe make it a bit cheaper or better in any way. Current price is $1,753 *** Lastly, I want to know if the EVGA GTX 780 SC is better than the Asus directcu II 780. Should I get the EVGA or stay with Asus? **** Thanks guys. Cheers!
