Any recommendation for the best (ultraportable or thin) laptop for casual gaming? With good keyboard and battery life to carry around and use with word/excel and etc. I am considering the Dell XPS 15 and Razer Blade 2018 but, any other similar kind of laptop that you guys would recommend? Gaming wise, I really only play esports titles (CSGO, overwatch and etc) so I don't need a *super* buffed up GPU. Thanks in advance,

1. Budget & Location 1500 USD, Hyderabad (INDIA). Can increase the budget to $1800 and my current build on PCPartPicker list translates to almost same (as per Indian rupees conversion). Can buy from these places: https://www.amazon.in/ https://www.newegg.com/global/in-en http://mdcomputers.in/ https://www.flipkart.com/ 2. Aim No gaming No OCing 12-15 hours a day usage Browser is open with 10-15 tabs in each window and 2-4 separate windows Programming/Coding Using Jupyter Lab Data Science and Machine Learning Watching 1080p videos Streaming 1080p videos through YouTube etc. Surfing/Searching on internet. 3. Monitors I just use one monitor. 1080p will be fine. 4. Peripherals Already ordered Mouse+keyboard (Logitech MK200) 5. Why are you upgrading? I have a 10 years old computer, AMD Athlon II X3 440 and it struggles to run Jupyter Lab I mentioned above and sometimes CPU usage goes 100% and it becomes unresponsive for 10-20 min when it comes to opening video streaming sites like YouTube. Its PSU has died already and keyboard and mouse are dying too. This is my 4th keyboard because I do programming, hence lot of typing. Monitor got some 2 inches sized 3 circular black spots in left corner. Used it a lot. Antec 300 Case I have, its buttons, even though I have lubricated many times, have gotten extremely rough now. So want to just upgrade.

I`m upgrading my system from a Asus Prime A320M-K, To a MSI M7 AC (AMD Board) and from pc part picker, it says i need a 1 more EPS Power connector for the board, My current PSU (Corsair CX 550M) from the looks of it only has 1 EPS connector, need some recommendations for a PSU. RAM side hm... need it to be at least 3000Mhz and 16GB (need it for FL studio since it favors fast ram, gaming, productivity like Photoshop/premiere (has to be cheap RAM, these ram prices are stupid) Need a GPU Nvidia preferably (cheap not like a 1050ti but like a 1060 or AMD equivalent to a 1060 and if you want to help me more, need a cheap case that can be upgraded (must have glass window lel) and at least 2-4 Front USB Ports) I have only like 300-500$ on me from last year that I couldn't get my 1070ti due to Crypto mining back then so yeah... if you can keep it between 400$ and if necessary 500$ not more than 550$.

Hello! I am looking to buy my 1st (non-laptop) monitor, and I thought about getting a 1440p resolution one. I want a sharp clear monitor for breeze work and use. I will be gaming a bit probably, but it's mainly for text (Word, code, notepad), browsing, and 1080p movies and Youtube. Will getting a 1440p monitor be more trouble than benefit over getting a 1080p monitor for this use? (I don't want a 4k monitor as I like high refresh rates for daily Windows use) Help will be much appreciated!!!

I'm trying to find a laptop at a "reasonable" price and the best value for its performance but there are so many options now with so many different configurations and price points. It's pretty overwhelming. I am looking for a UK Retailer I can purchase from. This device will be my main daily driver for the next year or so. I'm looking for a device that's able to proficiently tackle both; Productivity tasks in 3D Software (ZBrush/Autodesk Maya/Substance Painter/Unreal Engine 4/) "Hardcore" gaming Minimum main criteria for me; Display: 1080p IPS Panel @120Hz (color accuracy fairly important too) Speakers: Unimportant (will be using headphones) CPU: i7 or equivalent 6-core processor GPU: GTX 2070/2080 (preferably) RAM: 16gb RAM Storage: 256gb SSD + 1TB HDD Battery: 80Wh Battery (good battery life preferable) IO: Ethernet/3 USB 3.1 Ports/USB C Keyboard: Backlighting (Numpad preferred) I may have missed some considerations but from what I've been looking at I have been thinking about the Gigabyte Aero 15" from the retailer linked. I'm not sure if there are any better deals at this price point (I can be a little more flexible if it means getting more value) but I appreciate any suggestions/recommendations! Thanks!

EDIT ***** Looking for any final advice before I purchase big ticket items. FInal build will use a Ryzen 9 3900XT, but it is not an option in pcpartpicker yet. Current build list here Case, cooler, and SSD have already been purchased. See replies below for more details about part choices. ***** Budget (including currency): ~$2000 USD (some flexibility depending on benefit of component, does not include peripherals) Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: content consumption, moderate to heavy multitasking, coding (comp sci student), light 3D design/modeling, running VMs of other OSs, occasional gaming Other details: First of all, thank you to everyone who takes the time to respond. I really appreciate the help and advice. I really want to build my own PC, but I quickly realized that I only know enough to understand how little I know (ex: I think matching you memory speed/timing to your CPU is important, but how do you do that?). Also, this is my first time on the LTT forum so please forgive any breaches of etiquette, I will do my best to learn. Because I tend to keep a lot of applications open at once and switch between them, I was thinking one of the upcoming Ryzen XT CPUs might be a good place to start (better multi core performance = better multitasking right?). For the same reason, I think I want at least 32GB of RAM. I plan on starting with an all purpose 1440p display to compromise between gaming and all my other activity listed above. I may add a 4k OLED display later for watching videos, reading, and writing code. Case aesthetic is irrelevant, function over form 100% (similarly, RGB presence is irrelevant). Good airflow is important since I don't really want to spend the money on water cooling and I don't mind some fan noise. (computer will likely be sitting on the floor). Since this is my first build, I want to avoid cases that are especially difficult to build in. I am tentatively aiming for 2TB of solid state storage since I am a bit of a digital hoarder. Ideally I would have some form of high speed data connection to facilitate booting from external drives. This computer will mainly be running Windows 10 Any suggestions for monitor, mouse, and keyboard are welcome and appreciated! Be forewarned, I might end up asking a lot of questions since I want to learn as much as I can from this build as I can. Thanks again for the help!

Hello all, Finally getting around to transforming a very old setup. Sort of. I upgraded my PC a couple years ago and for what I have started to use it for I don't see the need to make too many internal adjustments. I will preface by saying I am a systems administrative intern working on a lot of programming intensive tasks, so I really haven't been doing a whole heck of a lot of gaming. (Boring I know) But I am looking to do a full peripheral upgrade. I run some awful 1080p displays. Actually, only one is awful the other is a relatively OK BenQ panel. I have decided to spend roughly around half of a thousand dollar bonus on some upgrades. Aiming between 500-750$. I'm getting some productivity oriented keyboard and ice, i.e. the Logitech Orion G610 MX brown keyboard and MX Master Mouse. Subject to change if anybody has any ideas. Also planned on buying the Sceptre 4k 27in panel for around $200, it seems a pretty popular buy. And I was going to keep my 1080p BenQ panel in a vertically upright position for code editors. Anybody know what else I should buy or any changes I should make? Any programmers have recommendations for peripherals and displays? And would having a 1080p display next to a 4k display leave a noticeable strain on my eyes due to image quality difference?

Hi everyone! I had a general question, that's pretty vague but wanted people's opinion on. I've heard people swear by portrait monitors saying that there's less bezels from monitor to monitor while other people say that landscape has a better fov. I'm a software engineer and I find that portrait monitors help me with such things as cmd windows and just programming in general, while it also helps just browsing websites. But I can see the argument for landscape monitors too. The overall question is, what orientation is better for your monitor? Landscape or portrait?

Looking to build a new pc for very occasional fortnite or ea sports title gaming but frequent college productivity tasks. I already have a corsair vs550 550 watt power supply, 1tb wd blue ssd and to hold it all Nzxt Source CA-S340W-B3 Cabinet. Planning to buy intel i7-8700 (not planning to overclock and save a few bucks on cooling), gigabyte B360 AORUS 3 wifi motherboard, hyperx fury black (2x4gb) dual channel memory, an MSI GTX 1060 3gb gpu, and Cooler Master Hyper 212x cooler. The listed parts would cost me approximately 1000$ from indian amazon. And allow me to upgrade to more memory and better gpu in future. Also once I graduate planning to use this as a media center pc for my living room. Any suggestions on alternative build options I’ll have in the same price range. Keep in mind tho that I’m NOT PLANNING TO GAME A LOT JUST SOME FORTNITE AND SOME EA SPORTS TITLES LIKE F1 ,AND NOT PLANNING TO OVERCLOCK, ONLY WILLING TO SPEND $ 1000 FOR THE CPU,MOTHERBOARD,MEMORY,GPU AND COOLER.

so I need an upgrade to my setup. I have no idea what to buy, I haven't even decided on a laptop or desktop yet. I'm a student who just needs to be able to do general office stuff + CAD modeling(no rendering or simulation), have decent wifi and do some very light gaming. like my GTX 770m is keeping up almost good enough, the only game I want to play it doesn't run well enough at 1080p is Fallout 4. I don't have a ton of money but no real set budget, but under 800€ would be nice. the main reason I want to upgrade is that my iMac doesn't have enough storage, I don't really want to open it up and my father is willing to buy it for about as much as I paid for it. the graphics card(that 770m) is also just a tiny bit lacking. also, the Lenovo x1 carbon that I had long-term borrowed from someone really got me into considering a laptop, the portability was just awesome. if I build a desktop I'm definitely going to use used parts, maybe even some old server gear. I'm very familiar with hardware, I have built PC's in the past, modded laptops built my own case, so I'm not worried about having to tinker with it or mod it. while i have an idea on what GPU and RAM I need, I don't know what sort of CPU I should get. the older gen Intel stuff is looking pretty good, like 5th gen core i5's or something like that any ideas? what would you buy? you can vote in the poll or leave a suggestion as a comment

This is my first time building a PC on my own. This is also my first Desktop in about a decade. I wanted it to be a bit of an all arounder but considering this is my first build I wasn't sure if my parts selection was optimal. Aim I need it for editing with Adobe Premier, Photoshop and After Effects with some potential gaming and even streaming from my xbox. Nothing too crazy gaming wise (stuff like Call of Duty, GTA V, maybe Tomb Raider? Nothing competitive just casual) I'll be honest I don't know too much about how demanding games are on PC, but I plan on playing emulators (I don't think that should be much of an issue). Budget I'm in the US and my budget is $1600 with $1800 after tax. Monitor I picked Asus VG278Q 27" for size, Eye Care, FreeSync/Adaptive Sync , thin bezels, good refresh rate, and ports. I plan on using it for my console as well. Im settling for a refurbished one at a cheaper price. This isn't included in the build budget, but for a monitor I'm willing to spend $250. I need 2 of them for a dual monitor set up so if there is anything out there that offers what this does with a lesser price then I welcome some suggestions. Peripherals A good wireless mouse suggestion would be appreciated anything $20-30 and under (must be black). For the keyboard I'm going with Logitech Craft for editing. I like the design and thin look with the backlight. Anything that looks close enough and is wireless with backlight would be good for about $150 (must be black). This is also not included with the build budget. Also if anyone knows of a good Keyboard mat with wrist rest and mouse pad (also black). Somethings I needed like the motherboard with built in wireless and bluetooth and the i7 8700k. I was unsure mostly about the SSD, RAM, Video Card, and cooling. I wanted at the least a 1070 Ti but wasn't sure if I needed or could get better RAM or SSD for the price. Do I have enough cooling and ventilation and also am I missing anything? If I can somehow end up with a more powerful build for the price that would be amazing. This is also my first time using a forum so I apologize if my post is unclear or if its difficult to understand what I'm going for here. Here is the build I picked out: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cT4R4q

Hi, I'm about to get a premium note-taking app and thinking to ditch Evernote. Thing is I like Evernote and if I decide to get anything other than EverNote, I would have to copy each note manually to the app that I buy. The very thought of the time that will be spent and the horror on copying each note and notebooks to the other app is already giving me headaches lol. I don't have any issue in EverNote except the encryption feature. Now I am struggling to encrypt images properly? How do I do it? Images to PDF? Then I looked at OneNote and its good too and plus point is I can password protect individual sections which are a huge plus from Evernote but sync in one note is absolute crap and that still continues today. So, I'm struggling with - 1) EverNote's NO way to fully encrypt notes. Its inbuilt text encryption won't encrypt text if it has bullet points or automatic numbers lol. Its like I have to manually write "1)", "2)", "3)", depending on the number of points. It's annoying, right? Weird. 2) I CAN'T encrypt images in EverNote. 3) I absolutely love OneNote and even have the OneNote importer tool in my desktop but the sync is utter trash. I'm a kind of guy who is always clipping and writing important business notes as well as very sensitive personal notes and want to upload pics too. In EverNote, all are cool except NO ENCRYPTION option, and in OneNote, all are cool except TURTLE TYPE SYNC ISSUES lol. Every good thing in the world will always have one flaw lol. Any idea on what to do? I need something all-in-one solution like OneNote or Evernote and should have the capability to web clip also. Any recommendation? I'm on Win 10 btw. Thanks in advance for your time!

I was originally going to use the AMD Ryzen 7 1700 with 16GB of RAM, but I'd like some more educated opinions. I'll use the game for: Video games Mostly older video games like MS-DOS titles and stuff. I'll also be playing Fallout 4 with about 200+ mods on it at 1440p. 3D Animation Blender and Source Filmmaker. I plan to use Cinema4D at some point. Video Editing. 1080p60fps game footage, 720p60fps camera footage?, rendered animation files. Internet browsing Video game development Cryengine 5 If anybody needs more details, just ask. Hey, Sorry for asking a question that gets asked a lot, I've been looking through some threads and while it has already helped me narrow down on my search for a new laptop, I'd like a little push in the right direction anyway. I am looking for an overall productivity laptop, mostly to be used for university (computer science). I run a business on the side so I'd ideally be using it for writing down notes, doing research for uni and running my business. (digital marketing, programming, editing, lead generation, blabla...) I don't need it to be able to run games, I have a high-end system at home. I'm looking for something relatively slick but powerful nonetheless. I was thinking about getting myself the latest XPS 15, but saw there was a back-to-school deal on the Microsoft Surface Book 2. I heard the Surface Books have reliability issues, so I'm not too sure. My budget is anything under €2500, I like the idea of it being a 2-in-1 (I really like the latest XPS, just not sure if it's a good idea to buy it right now) and am looking for something durable with high build quality. Any suggestions? --> Link to the Microsoft Surface Book 2 deal in case you're wondering. <-- Thanks!

Looking to replace my crappy Samsung 23.5 inch monitor with something a bit bigger. I don't game on my PC. This is primarily for work purposes, so having two documents open side by side with nice big font for my poor bleeding eyeballs is my primary use case. I don't need high refresh rate, gsync, freesync, or any of that stuff. I also have a separate sound system, so speakers are neither here nor there. Uses: Productivity with a little bit of photo editing ( high coverage of sRGB must, decent coverage of adobeRGB preferred) Size preference: 27inch Resolution preference: 1920x1080 (is 4k necessary? Can my 6 year old laptop even support 4k?) Panel Type: IPS Price: $350 CAD max, preferably under $300 CAD Ports: DP would would be nice, but not mandatory. (My computer only has mini DP and VGA ports, but I'm cool with using an adapter) I have a colour calibration device (ColorMunky Display), so factory calibrated is not a must, but being able to adjust contrast and brightness is a must. These are the four I've been considering (in no particular order). I'd welcome your views on them and if you have any other suggestions. I wouldn't be so picky if price weren't such a big issue. https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX63050 https://www.mhttps://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX73306emoryexpress.com/Products/MX44024 https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX61193 https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX73306

Hey guys, I'm looking into buying myself a new laptop, and I've saved CAD $2000 to put towards it (but i'm willing to push that up a bit if I find something that is worth it). I do enjoy gaming, and I know that the best bang for my buck will come from getting a PC, but my life is a tad hectic and I game in my downtime anywhere I can, often not at home. I work in a fairly relaxed office and I honestly could walk in with one of those ridiculous behemoths that pass for laptops, but when I go into a meeting or a conference, it would definitely be unprofessional, as well as unwieldy. With the recent release of the Razer blade 15 i've been considering saving up some more and buying it purely due to the powerful internals along with the professional aesthetic that can come with a single d brand skin and toning down the RGB, but at the same time, i hear that razor is essentially the apple of the gaming world with substantial markups on laptops that don't offer performance that is worth the price. I was wondering if there is anything currently in my price point that can look professional or should I just pony up for the razer? Also performance is obviously important to me but I am willing to lose some performance if I can have the professional look. Thanks in advance!

First a brief presentation of myself: (Swiss) student in mechanical engineering (heavy calculus loads and 3D work), never really been a pc gamer but trying to become one. so I need a new laptop that would look professional, preferably, thin and light, but that still handles gaming pretty well (maybe not triple As in ultra, 4K etc., but whatever). I know I don’t really need to be able to game anywhere, so I’m looking forward to use an eGPU (which has a couple advantages in my opinion, especially upgradability) and a monitor for gaming. Although, I still need a decent enough GPU for my 3D work (we’re using catia and abaqus). I was thinking about buying myself the new ASUS zenbook pro not necessarily for the screen pad rather than for the specs (decent 16gb memory, 512 ssd, and nice cpu) and I know a lot of you are going to tell me about the heat throttling but I’m only going for the i7, the i9 is an overkill to me. Tell me if I’m wrong but I hope it’ll solve a lot of the issue. So I’m wondering if you guys think it’s a good idea, if the lack of upgradable memory won’t make me throw it in 2 years, and if gaming on it with an eGPU could really be a great experience? Any other idea for a similar setup, or a setup that would check all my needs would be greatly appreciated and considered (but dells, I had way too much heat issues with them...). I guess I would prefer a last gen cpu just so the laptop could be up to date a bit longer, but it’s not that important thanks a lot. (I hope someone answers ^^)

Hello Friends, This is my first post, so I'll try to follow the rules and explain my problem as much as I can... I want to play a game on my TV and at the same time being able to use the PC to web browsing and light photoshop editing on my monitor. I've got my monitor connected to the onboard graphics and the TV to the GPU, the issue is that while I'm playing (I use a Xbox One controller) the game won't take any commands from the controller if someone touches the keyboard or mouse, Windows changes focus to the monitor... I can't find a way to keep focus on two windows at the same time (Chrome and a game) or some application that could force and restrict the inputs from the keyboard and mouse to the monitor and the inputs from the controller to the game (by the way I'm trying to play Dark Souls Remastered). I've searched and to my knowledge is almost imposible to do this without some kind of Virtual Machine or unRAID. I think that some kind of multiple users option would be amazing for Windows 10, more now than ever since we are getting CPUs with plenty of cores (With a Threadripper 2 32 cores for example). If anyone has any idea of how can I play while someone else is using the PC, I'll be gratefull. I hope my english wasn't that bad, I'm from Argentina (We speak spanish) so sorry for any grammatical error. Thanks in advance... My system specs: OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit MB: Asus Z97-E/USB3 (latest Bios) CPU: i7 4790k (with no OC) GPU: EVGA 1070 Founders Edition AND Intel HD Graphics 4600 RAM: 8GB DDR3 Kingston 1866mhz Drives: 120GB Kingston SSD, 1 Tb WD HDD PSU: Corsair 650W 80+ Gold

I have recently been looking at the maxed out Dell 15 Touch as a laptop to get, and I have been really impressed by an i9 six-core CPU, 4K Touch display, and 1050 Ti (not for gaming), not to mention it’s only 4lbs. I also noticed it comes with 32GBs of DDR4 2666MHz RAM, and I’m not sure what exactly that is for, in any system that isn’t an extreme enthusiast PC. Side Note: I would use the laptop for school (architecture, physics, and upper level maths courses), as well as for compiling code, rendering some 3D models and objects, and photo/video editing and rendering. Microsoft Suite applications will be commonly used, but they hardly require anything. Would this laptop be a good choice for me?

Hi Guys, need some helping minds. 1. Budget & Location Budget : 1800USD , Location : India. (duty inc) 2. Aim 3D Work, Photoshop, Illustrator, Multithreading, smoother timeline./ user interface., Better experience. 3. Monitors 1) PD3200U , 4K benq (main) 2) GW2760 , FHD, benq (bin) 4. Peripherals Looking for recommendation on CPU, GPU, Board ,PSU 5. Why are you upgrading? Looking for reo My current system lacks enough horsepower to meet the needs. It slows down my productivity. specs : 6600k, 25gb RAM and 2gb 960gtx gpu. I would like to keep the RAM if possible but I think If Iam going Ryzen , I might have to replace them. I would like to avoid such situation at best because there is no resale value for used RAm. and they are like 1yr + old. but if it can improve performance over a certain percentage, which can be noticable, I can replace them. but I need some suggestions.. I lack practical knowledge when it comes to high end pc specs. Any help is much apreciated.. Thanks guys

Looking for a $600 or less work laptop
NukeBowlerHat posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
My aging father is in need of a new laptop to replace his five year old asus pentium machine which he hates. He travels a lot, and thus needs something portable-13" or less and thin with good battery life. He doesn't need too much power either as he basically uses it for web browsing and writing papers on word (and other office programs). He doesn't want to spend too much - but wants it to last at least 4 years so it needs to be moderately powerful and preferably moderately upgradeable. Basically productivity, portability and battery life are priorities. I was thinking maybe a last gen Surface - or something along those lines. Any ideas?
