Hello, I am having troubles finding a new laptop at a decent price. It will not be used for gaming like most laptops are marketed towards right now for some reason. I need a very nice looking laptop for college. It needs a fair amount of processing power as I am in school for computer science, specifically, artificial intelligence and machine learning. I am looking for at least a full i5+, 8 gigs of ram, and minimum 256gb ssd. I'll make it easier to see with a list below. Thank you for the help. Hey all, I'm having a hard time deciphering between all of the options out there on the market. On top of that, it seems like every site reviews pre-builts differently. I'm about to start school for post-production sound, so I need a computer with enough power to run pro-tools and possibly logic. I'm not a huge gamer, but I still enjoy Skyrim and the deals on steam that I can't get for my PS4. Hi, I use to be a Mac user (Mac book pro) but went over to a pc tower for VR and I started yousing my tower for music production, (i7 4.2/ 32gb ram /2x 250 ssd 1 x 2tb HD )Protools. (sorry for the bad spellings , dyslexic ) (also found out some info about how apple products are made and where they are that upset me) I would like to get a well made pc (like my old Mac book pro ) laptop that I can do music production and VR on as I will be needing portability as I will be traveling from the uk to china a lot to see my wifes family and honesty speaking may move over there if we can't get the visa for her to stay. So i would like get a pc laptop of which I can go into Vr to catchup with my friends in the uk and Canada and Spain. And have the power to do 64 track protools mixes. Hey guys, i've posted quite a bit but now, i'll try to put it into one thread. I'm an i7 3610QM processor user (laptop) I mainly do video editing and then some gaming. Upon asking people here and searching the web, my i7 3610QM is about the same with an i5 3330 desktop processor (performance wise) In the i7 3610QM laptop, I can edit 4K videos smoothly at 1/2 preview resolution with the help of a GT640M and an ssd. Now, i've plan on building a PC which will (I hope) give me a performance boost in editing. I've chosen the i7 2600/2600K as a processor for the build. Would I see a big increase in video editing? Both those processors go for $100 or less in my country. I will also overclock if I am able to get the 2600K. Is that a smart move? I also have no plans on getting Haswell and newer chips since I really have a STRICT budget. Also, how does the 2600/2600K perform vs the 3770/3770K? The 3770/3770K go for around $110-$120. After giving up on the idea of an internal card reader with a floppy disk drive, I've decided to go looking for the internal card reader with the most standards in it. The only requirements besides having the most standards are that it doesn't require a USB 3.0 Header (2.0 is fine) and that it fits in a 5.25-inch drive bay as an internal card reader. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi guys. Usually use ableton on Windows and am looking for a software like it on linux so I can make the full transfer over! I would like something open source and not bitwig I have tried it and didn't really like it. I hAve been googling for months. If anyone also has a way to get ableton working on linux with usb pass through for my midi also would be perfect! Thank you in advance!

Hello, I am soon going to purchase a new computer. But am in question of what computer and requirements are best for Music production/engineering along with video editing. I currently use (fl studio's 11)on a HP Laptop and I get allot of CPU Spikes and bad Audio quality. Can you recommend a desktop between $400 - $500 which would not only better my CPU Spikes for my Music production but my video editing as well. Thanks Speed Speed Speed!!!!!!!!!! Relevant Information YES I am aware that Blackmagic has since Monday released a new 4.0 BETA firmware for the Ursa Mini 4.6K, but since I sent the camera back before this was out I made this video using firmware 3.3. The new firmware does add A LOT of awesome features including quicker access to controls, so thumbs up to Blackmagic for getting that rolled out. Camera Body I/O aside the Blackmagic had a few quirks that I will mention here for anyone considering on purchasing an Ursa Mini 4.6K. The first is that all the threaded mounting points on the camera are sized for ¼”-20 screws. The reason this could be a small issue for some is that most tripod plates come with a single ¼”-20 screw and a single 3/8” screw, meaning that you will need to have extra ¼”-20 screws on hand to prevent your tripod plate from twisting loose. My second minor gripe with the Ursa Mini’s body is that the power button is ONLY on the inside of the monitor. This was particularly annoying when I was using the camera handheld eventually needing to switch batteries and in order to do so I had to take the camera off my shoulder open the monitor, power the camera off, set the camera down or have someone hold it then finally change batteries. When trying to work quickly with a crew in particular this was a minor but noticeable annoyance. My third and final physical complaint is the omission of the global shutter. While I understand that Blackmagic could not make the process work with both the promised DR and the Global shutter it is a bit of a let down. The silver lining to this is the rolling shutter on the Ursa is very solid and was never an issue even when using the camera handheld. In all the work I put this camera through not once did it cross my mind that the rolling shutter made the image much worse. I consider Global Shutter to be a feature reserved for higher end cameras and there aren't many cameras close to the Ursa's price point that have it. QC Issues Like all of Blackmagic’s releases this camera has been in high demand and had a lot of people in line with pre-orders. While I can only guess, this seems to have led to difficulties in their QC process. Our unit from B&H had a small imperfection on the cameras monitor that was not generally noticeable when you had an image on screen but was definitely visible going through the cameras menus. This could very easily be damage the camera received during shipping but ether way we ended up with it, annoying. The second more pressing issue we had physically was the REAR SDI out on the camera did not work at any point in time. I tried multiple camera and full size desktop monitors and half a dozen SDI cables with no luck. This was disappointing but not something I believe Blackmagic would fix if my past customer service experience with them is any indication. This is however something that many will find unacceptable since you will be without your camera for up to several weeks depending on where you live. The last and possibly the most talked about QC issue that people have been mentioning is the magenta cast that some of the 4.6K sensors seem to be exhibiting. While I was shooting with the Ursa Mini I was using a GenusTech Variable ND filter and a Hoya IR Cut Filter since I was often outside shooting for this video and the short film. When using those two filters together I did not notice any magenta cast in any of the footage I shot, making sure to go through every shot start to finish checking for it. The corners of the frame seem to be the dead giveaway on other owners units but I did not experience such a drastic issue. That being said when I was not using the ND filter with the IR cut filter I did notice a SLIGHT magenta cast in some of my evening footage particularly at 800 ISO (Will be adding screen grabs in the morning) When I first noticed it I was a tad bit concerned however after doing a simple tint correction with in Premiere Pro (nothing fancy) I was able to remove all signs it was ever there, in fact many shots in the video originally had the slight tint and I am fairly certain you would never know it was there to begin with after colour correction was done. It is a shame others are having issues with their copy of the camera but if most currently shipping Ursa Mini’s give the images I got from the one I tested I think there will be many happy owners of this camera out there still. I do hope Blackmagic addresses this issue full swing as its one of main drawbacks being talked about this camera at the moment, but it is also something that should be fixable with time as these cameras begin shipping in larger numbers. It isn't something to brush past if you are considering this camera but if you can afford the time to correct it when it arrives the rest of the image will impress. Hey! I am planning on building my first PC in a few months from now! I'll need it mostly for music production as my HP Pavilion 17 is getting less and less efficient by now, but the occasional photoshop and sony vegas will be there as well. I got a bit of an idea but no specific parts I want to save up to. That where you'd come into play. So as I need mostly power I thought of getting a good CPU and about 32 gigs of RAM. I have an i5 at 1.7Ghz in my laptop right now and 8GBs of ram though both is not powerful enough anymore since my tracks improve and the projects get bigger. I don't really know if I will be overclocking in the future and tbh I don't really know how to and I probably won't relly need it, right? As for GPU, I plan on gaming as well, but I honestly don't care about graphics all too much. Occasionally PayDay 2 at higher than Medium settings would be totally ok and maybe a bit of Rust and Cities: Skylines, but mostly Stardew Valley and Prison Architect and maybe all the Splinter Cell games again. I do however plan on connecting up to 3 Displays in the future as I want to have my setup in my program with two smaller displays at the bottom (about 23" probably) and a bigger TV hanging on the wall above so that I can see my Playlist inside FL properly. I'd also need a lot of USB connections as I'm using an external Soundcard for things such as Microphone via XLR and Instruments such as Guitars via XLR, midi-keyboards, an external backup hdd (WD My Passport Ultra 1TB), my keyboard and mouse, webcam, micro USB cable of course and more in the future and I want to avoid using USB-Hubs as much as possible. As for storage, an internal 1TB HDD should be enough, maybe an SSD for the most important programs and the OS, though I'd have to see what size I'll use. Also a DVD writer would be extremely useful. And of course a proper Ethernet card (?), my connection is up to 100k I really have no idea on what to use for components though. Oh, looks is nothing important though, that thing will sit under my desk at all times anyways. Ok, on to the Budget, that will sit at around 1000€. I live in Germany btw. I will be able to go over Budget but only for things like a bigger SSD and maybe the RAM and not too much. one to two hundred are the total maximum. Things like Windows and Displays will stay out of the budget as I will get them for free. I'm building a PC for a friend which he wants to use mainly for audio production. But since I have no experience whatsoever with audio production I have no idea what CPU I should pick. So can anyone who has experience with audio production tell me how important the CPU actually is and if DAWs generally optimized for multithreading or single core performance. This also a rather low budget build for what seems to a professional application so i can probably spend max 200€ on the CPU (if it actually is important for audio production) which would be an i5 or a fx-9590 here in Germany.

Hey, LTT Community I'm eventually going to need a Streaming pc capable of doing the following. Streaming 1080p 60fps Hosting 2 VM's as well as the main "Stream" Its self (These VM's will need at least 2 cores and their own dedicated graphics card, this does not have to be as powerful as the main machines graphics card.) A minimum of 500GB SSD for the boot/vm drive (This will store all the programs for both VM's and the Main PC) 3x 2TB HDDs for Media and file sharing between the VM's and main machine. A substantial amount of PCIE and USB slots/ports (Enough for all 2/3 Graphics Cards + some Black Magic Design card(s) Dual Ethernet Connections (One to connect to a lan connection and the other to the Internet (for streaming) This PC will be used for Large Scale media production, like ESL, MLG, FaceIT ect. The easier the case it to pickup/haul about the easier. Pricing isn't really an issue, just don't go stupid Thanks a lot guys <3

Hey everyone! I'm looking for a new monitor to add to my current two-monitor setup. At the moment, I have an AOC 1080p IPS monitor that I use as my main for gaming; video editing; image editing and such, although I want to replace this monitor -and make it my secondary monitor- with a new 25"-30" ultrawide. I'm looking for something with a reasonable price; decent for gaming response time; AdobeRGB and something overall well built for both of these tasks. 1440p if possible. I don't know what I should be looking for for this monitor, so could anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks! Last time I did one of these I put like a giant novel at the start for the description so I'll just keep things simple. I want an upgrade to my Asus G75VW that's a solid air-cooled desktop pc that I can use for the coming years for a variety of multimedia production works. Music, graphic design, 3D modelling, gaming, content creation, streaming: I want no-holds barred on this thing. Except there are, because I've got a $1900 (USD) budget. Which sucks. A lot. If I had $3K then I wouldn't even be posting and I'd have a monster of a machine that would meet my needs for a long long time. So, here are the basics: $1900 USD Budget (ordering from West Virginia, USA) Aim is for web browsing, gaming, and content creation of all sorts (videos, music, and pretty much anything that can be defined in "multimedia") Intel + Nvidia please. Not to rat out the red team, it's just personal preference. (Also a DDR4-based system would be HEAVILY preferred. I have a need for speed.) Air cooling is preferred as well. Probably going to cap out at 1080p 60Hz gaming since I don't play many AAA titles, but I'd like a GPU that can handle high frame-rate 1440p or better just so I don't have to replace the damn thing in like a year. I just can't afford 1440p panels right now. SSD for a boot drive as well as storing my primary programs like the Adobe suite and my streaming software and PC screencap software (OBS and Action! if anyone's curious) Preferably 2TB of WD black for storage, I'd really like two of those for the sake of running the Raid setup that treats the two drives as one but gives me some assurance for file backups. Likely going to use an Elgato HD 60 Pro later on, so there's that. I'd REALLY like a MOBO with AC Wireless. I'd either need an absurd amount of cable to connect via LAN or I'd have to drill a big hole in my wall and I refuse to do that. PSU should be Gold or better. Case should be airflow optimized and have at least 2 5.25" bays available externally. Probably just going to get the MasterCase Pro 5 just because of how good a bargain Amazon's selling it at right now (ordering within a few days, probably) I want at least two monitors for the system. Preferably a minimum of 60Hz and having IPS monitors sounds pretty rad for artwork and stuff. The monitors will also be funded by that $1900 budget I do need peripherals as this will be my first build and thus do not have pre-existing peripherals to work with (I have a Logitech M185 mouse, but it's crap and is dying, just like my 4-year old laptop) I'd prefer something like the G710+ for the keyboard and the G700s for the mouse, but if there are cheaper equivalents then I can live with that. Preferably from a reliable and renown brand, though. None of that 3rd party "$10 Pro Gaming Mouse" garbage. The peripherals will ALSO be funded from that $1900 budget I'm upgrading more so out of necessity than want. My sound is glitching all the time in games and videos and frankly, this laptop wasn't that great from the start. I was just a dumb kid back when I bought this thing. I got it because it "looked cool" but over the years I've educated myself and realized I got a terrible sale with this thing. So yeah, if any of you would be willing to make some recommendations, that'd be fantastic. This community is awesome. P.S. Hello, this is my first post on the LTT Forums. In the near future I will most likely be producing and live streaming a few events within the UK. I've already given this a lot of thought and looking at different angles via multiple cameras is something I'm going for. I already know how to set all this up to achieve the looks I want. My question is what limitations does HDMI have both HDMI to HDMI and Micro-HDMI to HDMI? How far can it run without needing an amp? and will gold plated endings make that much difference for a live stream of an event looking to be watched back after it is all over? Many Thanks

Sadly this post isn't going to be much of a contributing one, since my organisation and I are in need of some expert help! We're a youth organisation dedicated to the growth of Swedish e-sports, and we've recently received a grant to help us build an encoding machine. I'm looking for someone who'd be interested in having a skype/teamspeak call where we discuss what particular pieces of hardware would fit our needs the best. Hey ^.^ I'm starting to get into the production side of things, like going to events and giving live streams, interviews, coverage ect. I've already asked a question on the lengths of HDMI cables and have already had a hard time finding one that is long enough. My original Idea was to have GoPro's for the static shots and 1 or two better cameras for the interviews / live coverage. So do I have a few questions for you lot 1. What would be the best capture device either internal or external to capture at least 2 GoPro's (will defiantly be expanding in the future) 2. For the other cameras, I'd be looking for something that isn't too expensive but does the Job. I'd also be looking to attach a shotgun mic (I'm confident I can find somewhere) and possibly 2 lavalier microphones. 3. What would be the best way to capture the camera(s) you suggested above? Either HDMI? SDI Video Input? If there is anything else you can recommend with networking or anything like that feel free to do so. I'd be using OBS-Studio to put everything together and then send it out. I do have to go for a little while but I'll look forward to reading the responses when I get back
