I have an old windows 10 laptop that was dropped and no longer turns on, I've torn it apart to gut it for spare parts. I've recovered any files from the mechanical hard drive that I needed, but I would like to recover the windows activation key for future use, does anyone know of a good way to do this?

I recently bought several servers from a civil engineering firm upgrading their systems (3x Poweredge R510s), but it looks like they didn't reset them before getting rid of them. Meaning, when I boot them up, I still see the domain account login, which I have no password for. I plan on wiping the servers, but if possible I'd first like to recover the Server 2019 product key, and I'm not sure if there's any way to do that without logging in. I've tried several things, all to no avail. Any advice appreciated.

Hi, it's me UDONTO again. My friend and I having some problems with Windows 10's product registration. My friend got a new build somewhat 3 months ago. Windows 10 got properly installed. With successful product key registration. But for some reason Windows forgot that already registered the key. Know my friend gets this message to register the product key although we already did it. After way to many attempts windows still seems to not understand the key. If that makes any sense. My friend already tried it with a new product key, also no luck there. Even a reinstall doesn't work. We both don't know what to do anymore. Please help. Thanks in advance.

I just built a new PC and I wanted to do a fresh install since my hard drive has some viruses. My original PC had Win 8.1 Pro before Win10 came out and I was deciding for about a week or so if I wanted to get Win10. I then said screw it I'm just gonna get it and use that free install. It updated to Win10 Home/Pro (as I had thought) of whichever version they where doing for the free upgrade. To now my PC doesn't have a CD drive so he said he has a Win10 Home on a USB and just use the code from yours it should work. Well I used Magic Jellybean to get my code and it said I had Windows 10 Enterprise and my code and all that. Well just installing it my code of course says it doesn't work, so I looked on activating it later and it says i have Windows 10 Pro. but when i use Jelly bean it says I have Enterprise and my CD key is the same, even though its a new hard drive and a USB windows so it has not been in contact with another hard drive. I did just recently sign into windows with my Microsoft account I have for Xbox but I wasn't sure if they would somehow give this PC an Enterprise Windows. if anyone can help with this I'd appreciate it.

Hello there! I've been lurking for a while and never made an account but after 2 years of working in a PC Repair Shop I finally hit a wall I can't get around. English is my third language, please don't eat me alive. I have this PC from the early 2000s with a fried board that, as usual, has some vital programs that would cost thousands of euros to replace. The first step was to find a similar donor PC and transfer the hard drive. After doing that, and after resolving some issues with user folder not showing up, we finally can log in-- oh wait, it needs to be activated. No biggie, the original PC still has it's license sticker. (Note: I took the images from the internet, the originals are in italian) . So I go for option number 2 ("Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows"), and get to the second part. "Wait a minute" I think to myself, "It never asked for a product key". I shrug, set my location to Italy, call the number (as usual, not a real person, just a nice robot-lady voice), give her the ID from step 3 (it displays one for me), and type the confirmation ID for step 4. Lo and behold, it doesn't work, citing a bad product key. "Doesn't matter, I have the original anyways". So then I press 'Change Product Key' and type the product key and press 'Update', and I wait... and wait... and wait... I tried other spare Keys I had, even a random one, nada. The longest I waited was 4/5 hours. The internet connection is there because if I unplug the cable it tells me the key can not be verified (I also tried installing a couple PCI Ethernet cards, just to be sure...). Since I can only enter windows in Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Prompt, I can't do the "change the registry value" trick because it works only in normal mode, which I can not access. I tried looking for command line solutions but found nothing. Before I go dumpster-diving for an early 2000s board, is there something that can be done at this stage? Did I miss something stupid that I should be ashamed of?

Hi, Does anyone know how to transfer a Microsoft Office Pro Plus 2016 from an old laptop to a new laptop? Is it possible to move because I've saw other comments and forums and they said that it is limited to just one computer. Please let me know if there is a solution to this. Thank you

Hello, I found myself needing to do a clean install of windows 10 on a computer I build, but I have misplaced my product key. It was a windows 7 pro key I found on an old laptop and used it to activate windows 10 pro and I recently through that away and didn't write down the key. Is there a method that actually works for getting the key from the system? Any Help is appreciated.

I'm replacing my boot drive from my 1TB HDD to my new SSD and I was able to fresh install windows just fine, except the key for the version on the HDD (didn't format it) is windows 10 education and it doesn't want to activate the pro version on the SSD. is there an easy way to convert my current version to edu? should I reinstall it to Home in hopes it will work better? should I find the .iso file originally used (think its an 8.1 version, so not preferred)? should I buy a key from some shady market? or is there a better option? I have the key linked to my Microsoft account for the edu version I haven't done much on the new install yet so I'm willing to reinstall the proper version

Question about OEM windows licenses
Joshua Larsen-Bradford posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi i just had a quick question. I'm planning on building a pc but due to budget i'm going to buy the video card later on and use the pc in the meantime. I wanted to get an OEM license from Kinguin where they are ridiculously cheap. You can see it in this video from Paul's Hardware: So my question is, how do hardware changes work with an OEM license. what components is it tied to. Is it possible to just add in a video card without much trouble or going through reactivation. I know it's simple but i know nothing about these types of licenses. Thanks in advance -
Hi everyone I'm building a new pc for my parents. Will I be able to use the windows 10 licence from their old PC or will I have to buy a new one. The old pc was windows 7 but was upgraded to 10 when it was free.

I am trying to do a reset on my Windows 8.1 custom PC. I am at the phase where I have the media things downloaded on a flash drive and am nearly ready to go. However, I am confused as to whether I will need the product key or not. I have read a bunch of different articles, all of them saying different things. I don't have access to my product code, as my younger cousin peeled off the sticker and ate it when he got angry with me. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

A few days back, I acquired a new system from a friend. It was in working condition but was in need of a few upgrades. After a few hours of said upgrades and swapped hardware, the system failed to boot shortly before the lights form the windows logo. A BSOD was visible for less than a second before the system re-starts into the repair tool and then proceeds to fail, listing an unrecoverable error. I was planning on striping the key and taking the machine to windows 10 (I still have the installation tool). I attempted to recover the key from the repair tool but failed due to not having the admin password. I also do not have the disk for windows seven ultimate so the repair function there is out. I even tried produkey on my main rig to strip the key but it could not seem to locate it. Are there any other options available without getting the system to boot? if anyone has any ideas, That would be fantastic. Also just for clarity, the BSOD is NOT the primary issue.

Hi guys, I currently built a new pc, but I want to activate windows on it. I am trying to use my old Chuwi Laptop's product key on my new PC. Are there any risks being involved? If so, what are they?

I switched my hard drive with my operating system (Windows 8) between systems and now when I try to enter the key in it comes up with the error above. I put the hard drive back into the old computer and deleted the key there, but I still get this error. I have also repeatedly uninstalled the key in the current computer, but I still have no luck. How do I make the computer register the key?

Hello LTT community, I just purchased a digital download version of Windows 10 from MyChoiceSoftware and have since then gotten an e-mail from them digitally "shipping" my order. I've never installed Windows from a USB drive before, so some of this may seem elementary to some of you. I downloaded an ISO file from Microsoft's media creation tool for Windows 10 and then used Rufus to format and place the ISO file onto my USB drive. My question is, is that all I need to do, and just enter the product key from MyChoiceSoftware during installation? Or is there something I'm missing, like something I need to download from the e-mail I got from MyChoiceSoftware? I've never used MyChoiceSoftware before, but I chose them because they were a name I've heard before, and people online say they're reputable, and the fact that they were cheaper than Newegg or my local Micro Center. Another question: do I need to be connected to the internet in order for Windows to verify my product key and for my computer to download all the files associated with Windows? I'm asking because I know that whenever you buy a physical disk version, it ships with documentation for the activation key, and a disk with an ISO file, and I know that a DVD disk is only large enough to hold an ISO file, not the whole operating system. Thanks, DAGGER51

I'm a little confused on how Pro product keys work. I currently have 2 HDs with the same product key. Anyone know exactly how many PCs can use the same Pro key? Thanks

A while ago my friend built his first PC and managed to get a hold of Windows 10 Educational edition with a product key for free and booted this onto a hard drive, however he wants to upgrade his PC now and is planning on getting an SSD as his boot drive instead. He is also replacing his motherboard. Is he able to download and reuse the same windows 10 software and product key?

Hi everyone, I bought a used Windows XP desktop from Goodwill. I am reinstalling the operating system with an old XP disc I have. My dad needs XP for work since he uses ancient software and he will never change or upgrade. You know the type. However, when I enter the product key taped to the tower, the OS doesn't recognize the product key. Shouldn't this product key work on reinstall? Any thoughts? Thanks for any help in advance.
