Essentially I replaced it from a DOA and it seems to have issues with printing pure black on the photo paper, which in this case is glossy, I was wondering if anyone experienced here could help, the store suggested it to me as a better alternative (official retailer, not just some corner shop), the print speeds etc are all good, its an Ink tank too which is very good for economy but it just doesnt get black printed properly, its a tinted blue black rather than black-black (K), the home grade printer I returned was providing for some reason an absolute black with ritchness, this one does not and it bothers me since I gave essentially a difference to buy it worth double the initial printer's price. It is a bit frustrating because I generally get tired of returning products more than once. Now I only bought the more expensive one because it is a more sturdy build (quality of components, work hours endurance etc) and I had the best intentions but it feels like it backfired in this case unless I can somehow get this fixed. Maybe there is some setting I missed or perhaps some gimmick that is causing this. Thanks in advance.

Summary Microsoft has announced plans to end support for third-party printer drivers in Windows by 2027. Replacing them will be a single "IPP Class Driver" which utilizes the "Mopria" standard for providing a universal interface for compatible printers and scanners. Quotes My thoughts About damn time. Although, there's always going to be that one printer that still needs manual drivers for some reason. Good day to all of you. I'm hoping this post leads to a full on video by linus so please show your interest and draw some attention. I have been in the IT industry since 1993. I've seen some amazing growth in power and efficiency of pcs, servers, displays, video game systems, and the list goes on. But one product that amazes me in its continuous push toward irrelevance is the Printer. Its that technology that everyone needs and continues to need but gets shoved in the back corner like a basturd step child. Recently I had the misfortune of having to install and configure a small HP printer. Specifically the HP LaserJet Pro 4001dwe. Full disclosuer, some of this is my own fault for not properly researching the product. That being said let me explain what is happening in the industry - or at least at HP from what myself and several other associates are seeing. Lets take a trip back in time. The year is 1999. I'm currently a part of an IT department at a large printing firm. Responsible for deployment of PCs, printers, monitors, and servers. A pentium II 266 is all the rage with windows 98. Printer manufacturer of choice was HP LaserJets and Epson dot matrix (long live three part forms!). I could deploy a new HP Laserjet 4050tn in about 3 - 5 minutes with 2 minutes of that being the unboxing time. Steps required: 1. Unbox 2. Pull protective shipping seal from fresh laser cartridge and insert into printer. 3. Powerup Printer 4. Set IP address 5. Setup printer share in windows NT 4 or Novell 3.12 6. Done That was it. Simple and elegant. Those printers were repairable and built like a tank. Ran for years usually needing nothing more than pickup rollers and an occasional fuser. Almost every HP printer regardless of size had these same simple steps. Printing in 5 -10 minutes after opening the box. Fast forward to today. I purchased the HP LaserJet Pro 4001dwe as a small desktop printer for check printing in an accounting clerks office. Here are the steps to get this top of the line - nearly 25 years newer technology working. 1. Unbox 2. Install next to PC on Desk 3. Connect USB Cable as there is only 1 network line in this old office that is connected tot he PC 4. Install software. Failed because I didn't read the manual and know that the printer needed its own network connection in order to function. 5. Steel network cable from PC to Printer. Power up printer. Wait 45 minutes for printer to download and install firmware updates on printer. WTF!!! PCL 6 has been around and working flawlessly for 25 years!! Why doesn't this just work. 6. Put in small switch so I can connect the PC as well as the printer as the printer will not work unless it is connected to the internet 7. Finish setting up the Printer on the pc 8. Required creating an account at HP so they can sell me over prices cartridges of toner for the rest of the short 2 year anticipated life of these piece of crap landfill filling printers. (15-20 more minutes) I have never nor would I have ever dreamed that a printer would require the internet to setup its basic printing functionality. In the push to secure as much money as possible from its customers HP has taken the approach of Lock it down so they have no option but to buy from us. Linus just reviewed the xeon processors from intel that are doing the same thing. Pay us again and we will let you use the product at its full potential even though you already payed for the hardware that drives those features. Where is the line in the sand for these subscription service product deployments. There are some products that just need to work without an outstretched hand like oliver saying .... "More Please". Especially when the useful life of the product is 2-3 years. A message needs to be sent to intel, HP, Apple, and any other tech company that these practices are not OK for every product to go to market. Shareholders love this but consumers HATE this. They shouldn't even be legal. If the feature is in the hardware, and I paid for the hardware, why should I pay more to use what I already bought. Its a sunk cost. A printer that I paid for shouldn't be required to go to the internet just so mom and dad can make sure I only put moms cartridge in the printer. Not to mention the added complexity to setup a printer and wasted time. And its marketed as A PRO product. We need to do better with technology products. HP will die as quickly as it grew if these practices don't stop. I for one have switched to brother and will try almost any other brand to avoid the experience that HP is trying to establish as the new norm. Comments and Discussion please!! Linus, please do a comprehensive review on the difference in experience between a 20 year old printer and todays. You can include a comparison in print quality and serviceability as well. Aside from wireless I fail to see where there is any innovation at a company that was a leader.

This is more of a pissy vent then anything else but some help would be appreciated if anyone has any suggestions. At home we had a wireless HP Envy 4500 that, used to, print fine when plugged directly into a computer but never worked wirelessly. My setup is on the other side of the house so I really wanted the wireless functionality and decided to set up an old computer as a print server. I troubleshooted plenty of problems with this computer and finally got Ubuntu on it and set it up as a print server. I pulled a document up on my main Maci to print annddd the printer just didn't dispense any ink onto the page. I troubleshooted this thing for days and got punted from robot to robot when contacting HP support so I just threw my hands up and replaced it with an old LaserJet p2055dn someone threw out. This printer works fine but after setting it up in the living room the computer functioning as the print server has decided it will no longer connect to the internet and I can't get it to work now. I'm very frustrated as I've never used a printer that didn't suck and at every single point something could go wrong while setting up this print server it did. Also in the time it took me to scream a bunch and wright this the computer magically fixed itself. Also when I rebooted the machine the screen did this crap. I should probably specify that I'd like some advice on how I could get the old printer to work again so I can give it to somebody and it doesn't just go on a landfill and why on Earth I was having the problems I was having, I'm clueless. Another day at the office.. This time- printers! Gotta love 'em. When they work, they sort of don't and if the don't they will not. To the point, I get a call today regarding a printer issue. Teacher: Hi, I can't get my printer to print an Excel spreadsheet. Me: Ok, any error coming up? Teacher: No, but it asks me to select a printer and when I do (surprisingly the correct one) it says "unable to communicate". Me: I'll be right down. I go down the the classroom and I find the printer turned off. I tell the teacher that's it turned off and they are very surprised- usually it glows in 3 different places and makes noises but they didn't seem to notice. I go about turning it on and pressing print... BOOM! MAGIC! It works! God damn it... Another 15 minutes wasted. I want to do VMs!!

3d printers 3D Printer choice that i`m struggling with
NSOrdinary posted a topic in Hobby Electronics
so here i`m again. looking for assistance on choosing between 2 3d printers i have been looking videos for few days. so here are my 2 options: Creality Ender 3 V2 Creality Ender 3 Pro Idea at the moment is to get something that i cant print some fpv accessories for my upcoming builds. When it comes to prices. there aren't much difference (~40 Eur) between them. And plus importing via amazon them to ireland. (Have prime, but lately few pc things makes me pay import, idk why) So my question is not about witch one prints better or faster. But which one would be better choice for occasional print. at the moment i don't plan anything but fpv parts. maybe.i will print few toys for my goddaughter. like those octopuses or whatever. Who knows. what comes to modding of these 2 printers. i have general idea what i could try to do. to make the a bit silent and few other things. Maybe some of you already have one or both of these, maby you can tell me your thoughts on these aswell and maybe suggest something. Thanks in advance… :)*- 7 replies

Hi I'm trying to find a printer to replace our old HP Color LaserJet CP4520 Series printer. We bought a used one to replace the first one, but it didn't work out, we want one that will be long-lasting Got any tips on how to chose a brand-new one?

I have an Old Canon Image Class MF3010 all in one Laser printer and Scanner. I use it maybe once a quarter. Lately it's been showing error code E202. Which points to issue in scanner. I tried replacing the scanner (CCD) cable but it didn't worked out. I don't want to invest any more money on it but on the same time I was looking if there's anyway I can just use to print documents rather than tossing the whole unit out. I had once wiped out the scanner head and it worked for few days. Since it shows error code for scanner it doesn't print either. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Should I go for inkjet or laser printer for vinyl sticker or matte sticker paper (I bought both cause)? Any recommendations? I'd prefer to use the vinyl sticker instead over the sticker paper, but I don't want to waste my money on going to a print shop to get it printed and it'll just get smudged.

So, I am a student and I would like to buy an A3 sized printer for project work. I haven't a tonne of money to spend on it, however quality isn't a huge factor. There isn't much in the line of trustworthy reviews or guides on the subject and so I would like a few suggestions. Thanks.

So today I was informed that administration at the school I go to has banned teacher's personal printers from being connected over the schools network. No Wi-Fi no ethernet, nothing. They are only allowed to connect them via USB. Only problem is that our Band directors share a single printer, and they both need to be able to access and print to it on their own computers. I've been looking and thinking and found a USB switch, but this is not ideal as you have to manually switch all the time who gets to use it. Alternatively I was thinking about using the computer that we use as a server to run our uniform program as the host that used the built in windows printer sharing to share it to both computers. Does anyone have a better idea or if not which do you think is a better solution?

Me and my brother are designing a TCG game (with my school's art club) and we need to print on card stock. My art teacher says that laser may be better for the text part but for the image reproduction a inkjet would be a better choice. Should I split the job between the two printers? Or just use either one? *please note this project is a school art project (we are being graded by the art teacher)

I have lots (I mean 20+ books each ranging from 100 to well over 1500 pages) books as PDFs ... I want to print them in House... (You might tell me to give it to some printing service but I really want to print my own and bind them also) So my budget is 300 dollars and I want high volume (both in print cycle and pager per toner cartridge) high speed monochrome... Only black and white 1 pass color printer... suggest me some (please don't suggest me those "Cyan makes your black blacker" crap... Pure monochorome)

I am looking for a color laser printer that is an all-in-one. I am a big fan of Brother but if there is an overwhelming support for another brand I am willing to cross the aisle way. Thank you in advance.

I need your help looking for a color laser printer. I would like laser over inkjet as I would save money and frustration. Does anyone have any suggestions? I prefer the brand Brother as I have never had any trouble with them. I am looking for an ALL-IN-ONE. I was unsure where to post this topic so forgive me if it should be somewhere else. Thanks in advance.

What should I be looking for when I go to buy a printer. My girlfriend needs one for college, and I'd like to get her one that isn't horrendous. I've come across some pretty $#itty ones before and would like to avoid buying one again. It needs to be able to print and scan and of course copy.

I stumbled upon this video today and have noticed quite a few songs being recreated with old PC hardware (printers, scanners, etc.). How does one go about creating music using old hardware like the floppy disks used below?
