Hey guys, im overclocking my cpu and decided to let my Rog motherboard oc my cpu. My cooler is a h220x swiftech and my cpu is an i5-4690k. My mb came up with 1.28V and 4.5GHz clockspeed. I ran Prime95 and it came to a temperature of 95 degrees after 2min. Is this okay or should I downclock my cpu?

Hi, so when runnign prime 95 blend test I get about 75-78C pretty good, or so I thought. Then I did the small fft test and i got like 99-100C! HOLY BALLS! I am running an h80i

I just installed a GTX100i in my PC and started Prime95. My CPU started reaching 76C! When I was installing the pump it said tighten the thumb screws but they just spun. Did I use the wrong stand off screws? There was also a lot of play in the backplate and the stands. i could push the stands back then forward and move the back plate. What did I do wrong?

I'm over clocking for the first time and just set my 4770k to 4.2GHz using the built in option on the motherboard. Now I'm setting up my PC for a stress test but I'm not sure exactly which options I need to choose to stress my PC. Obviously CPU, I keep reading about FPU (not sure what that is though) so most likely that and I would think they mean CPU cache but i could be wrong. Plus, some people say AIDA64 doesn't stress as well as Prime95 but others say Prime95 is to hard on your CPU. I'm so confused. Any input is appreciated.

I've recently built my first pc. The cpu of the build is intel i5 4690k and I am using corsair's H105 cooling unit in my h440 to cool the cpu. When I used prime 95 tests to check my temps, it was pretty high at stock speed the cores were at 62 degrees I believe I did little overclocking to 4.2 GHZ at 1.150v , the temps of cores in Core-Temp were 72-78 degrees celsius I now installed Aida 64 and at 4.2 ghz the temps are amazing The cpu average temp was 42 and the average temps of the cores were 49-50 So I am alittle bit confused which is more accurate in stress testing the i5 4690k I even overclocked it now to 4.5 ghz at 1.2v and the temps of the cpu is 48 at average and the cores are around 57 degrees average there is no crashing or what so ever. I've read online that prime 95 overheats the Haswell cpus but I need confirmation on that one.

I overclocked my i7-4770k to 3.9GHz and it is running at around 97 degrees Celsius while running a Prime95 benchmark. I am currently using a Hyper 212 EVO as a placeholder for a liquid cooler later on. I have default voltage and I haven't changed anything except for the multiplier to 39. Are these temperatures normal?
-
Hi guys I've just ran my first watercooling loop and am running Prime 95 and had a temp readout of 95 Degrees is that normal for this cpu to get that got, i'm running an alphacool st30 radiator 240mm and a phobya kit, hthis this the first time i've ran a prime 95 test so i'm not sure about it, also my pc shut itself off just over an hour ago and i'm not sure what could be causing it. thanks guys.

Recently I made an i5-4690K build and I slapped on a Scythe Mugen 4. Finally got into overclocking again, where my last experience was with a Pentium 3 based Celeron. That aside, which programs and more importantly, which tests are suitable for stressing your overclock on a Haswell CPU? You have Prime95. The new version uses AVX2 instructions which some people say puts an unreasonable amount of stress on the CPU for Haswell. It generates a huge amount of heat. The old Prime95 with version <= 26.6, don't use this instruction set and generally a stress test might register temperates of about 20c lower! This is a huge difference. IntelBurnTest also seems to use this instruction set and generally also puts about the same amount of stress on the CPU like Prime95 does. You also have AIDA64. With the stability test suite you can choose to stress specific components. From the post of an AIDA64 dev, the FPU stress test also uses AVX2 instructions. See the post here. The results are as following, with the peak temperatures, on my Core i5-4690K @ 4.6GHz 1.285mV CPU exclusive 65c. Seems to average out to 60c on the hottest core. FPU exclusive 94c! Seems to average out to 91c on the hottest core. CPU + FPU 83c. Seems to average out to 79c on the hottest core. There's also Intel XTU which seems to be a somewhat lighter version of IBT, but with a much fancier interface. And OCCT, but I haven't used that. As you can see, the temperature differences are absolutely ridiculous. 30c is a huge difference, from "Oh, another 50mV won't hurt to get that +100MHz stable" to "Shit, I might want to back down 100MHz or I'll fry it". Will regular non-production software ever use these instructions in the future? The heaviest things my computer ever runs are games, I'll probably never get into transcoding videos or use this build for anything 'professional', but it'd be nice to know how these affect you, if they do. How do you people test your overclocks and what's your testing methodology? Please don't comment if all you have to say is something alike "Prime95 for 8 hours minimal" because you're not addressing the main issue here, of which part and how the CPU is stressed.

I have a nanoxia deep silence 1 case that's sound damped and atm 3x corsair af120 quiet edition fans running at low rpm, might get 2 more to use inside of my case on the top where most people mount a 240mm rad and a msi gtx 780 gaming oc, i want to run my i7 4790k at 4.5 ghz or faster(not because i need it, but because i can), atm moment i use the thermalright macho zero without my black and with ty-147 fan. I have had the corsair H100i, to noisy fans, even at low rpm i could hear the fans, the pump is loud, just returned the cooler master seidon 240M, it really has silent, quiet fans at low load, but i could hear the pump (conclusion theres no aio cpu cooler with 100% silent pump). I have the Phanteks PH-TC14PE (got it new with half of the price) it's a bit to noisy at low load (the fans on the cooler master seidon 240M is more silent at low load then the Phanteks). I like thermalright, my old cpu cooler was a thermalright true spirit 140 with the black and white ty-147 fan i don't use atm on the macho zero, i have thought about the thermalright silver arrow ib-e or the se that has 2 different fans but it's not a cool as the big phanteks, noctua, the last one i have thought of is the new Noctua NH-D15 simply because it's in the top 3 of the best cpu air coolers in the world, not shure how silent the noctua is compared to the silver arrow Ibt and prime 95 is giving me very high temps above 80 degress and i have heard that it's not good to use since it's giving temps above average I feel a little frustated since i want run my cpu at 4.5ghz or more but i can't get ressonable temps with low noise, i know if i had to use real water cooling, not a aio cooler, it's gonna cost med around 200-250€ and that is to much, the price of the thermalright silver arrow and noctua NH-D15 is more then okay, they all cost under 100€

Two nights ago, I upgraded my Hyper 212 Plus cooler to a Cooler Master Nepton 140XL water cooler and I also upgraded my motherboard to an ASRock Z77 Extreme4. I used a two year-old container(if that makes a difference) of Arctic Silver 5 to reapply thermal paste to my i7-3770k. Upon testing the temperatures with RealTemp, I found that Cores 0 and 1 were around 25 degrees idle, Core 2 was around 35 degrees idle, and Core 3 was 14 degrees idle. I ran Prime95 today to test the functionality of my water cooler; after an hour, according to RealTemp Cores 0 and 3 are stabilizing around 55 degrees, whereas Cores 1 and 2 are averaging at 65 degrees. Why is there such a significant contrast? I am concerned about Cores 1 and 2; with the Hyper 212 Plus, my temperatures never exceeded 36 even when playing intensive games. Could it be the old thermal paste, or could it be that it hasn't completely spread over the CPU yet?

I refreshed my PC with new copy of windows 8.1 x64, and I did prime95 test on fresh OS install, like supposed to. I did not fail any test, but it did it like 'TEST 1' and then didn't write pass or fail, just skip on and write 'TEST 2'. It did the same test twice. What does that mean? Should I be worried?

So I Recently got an i5 4690k, with an asrock z97 pro 4 and coolermaster 612 pwm. I am trying to overclock it and see how far i can push it, yet still be stable for 24/7 usage. Currently I can get it stable at 4.6 ghz with 1.29 volts and max temps of around 82C on aida64 and prime95. Or stable at 4.5ghz witg 1.245 volts and max temps around 70C on aida 64 and prime 95. Is it worth the extra 100mhz and what is the maximum safe voltage for this chip?

Hi everyone, I was wondering, when using prime95 (small tft) to stress test a CPU, is there a minimum time to determine if your overclock is good? I know some people may say that a full 24 hours is ideal, but just the thought of leaving my pc on that long terrifies me ahaha. Is there a go to time when doing a stress test? Any help is appreciated and will help me expand my knowledge!

So, I was having issues with idle temps on my 4790k using the h100i. I figured out the backplate was rather loose so I went to Home Depot and picked up some rubber washers to get better contact with the cpu. My idle temps now sit around 32-38 C, which is absolutely fine. I decided since the Idle was fine, why not go test out the cpu under load? A quick download of Prime 95 and I was ready to go. I had corsair link popped up in the background. I started off small, I did a small test to push the cpu to full load and then Blam. 100 C + temps on that thing! I thought, oh yeah right. I downloaded Open Hardware monitor. Sure enough I see CPU core at 98 C or so. But below that I see all of the CPU Temps. They were sitting at lower 70's to mid 70's. Should I be worried about this? or should I ignore it and look at the Temps I see on Open Hardware Monitor below the CPU core? (I've probably made more topics about this damn cpu and cooling it than I would like, as always any info is appreciated. I just want this thing to run fast and cool) =P Tis a dream

So I have the i5 4690k and the H80i from corsair, and I have already fixed the problem with the backplate, but when starting the prime95 test, the temps jump from 25~30 degrees to around 79~86 degrees instantly. This worries me.

i build my first pc a week ago, i have i7 4790k + evo 212 with asus z97a, i am always woorid about the thermal paste and cooler that did i set t right. today my friend told me to run the prime95 to cheak temp, i run prime95 and temp went up to 80c and after 20 seconds i close the prime95 1) what is the max normal temp for i7 4790k 2) does teh 80c that i got is normal 3) my friend told me that you need to run prime95 for 24 hours to check problems , do i really need to run it ! what are the benifits ? if i run it for 24 hours , will it not fry my cpu

I was stress testing my computer when i realized that the radiator on my watercooled system was extruding cool air instead of warm air, even when i was stress testing it with prime 95 and the cpu which is a intel core i7 4790k was heating up to around 70c can anyone help?

So i decided to test out the OC genie button on my x99 motherboard today. After only about 5 minutes of prime95 i got a blue screen. The issue doesn't happen when i run prime 95 without having OC genie activated. I realise that the issue might be heat, but shouldn't a water cooled CPU be able to handle that? The temperatures i saw never went above 70C. My CPU is an i7 5820K.

So I recently built my PC. I have a i7 - 4790K CPU with a Noctua NH -D15 Tower Cooler on a Maximus VII formula motherboard. I am a complete newbie to over clocking and this is an initial attempt to overclock CPU. Im looking for two things: 1) Push my cpu to the absolute limit with my current setup. I understand liquid cooling allows for additional overclocking headroom but this being my first build was not too sure about a liquid loop. 2) Good overclocked setting for 24/7 running. I have only changed the CPU voltage and the multiplier in the UEFI bios. After booting into windows, I run Prime 95 for 3 minutes to ensure stability before pushing the multiplier or voltage higher. I monitor the CPU temperatures in Celsius using Real Temp GT 3.7.0. Given below are my CPU clocks and temperatures: Multiplier x42 @ 1.150 V Temps : 73 | 77 | 73 | 71 Multiplier x44 @ 1.150 V Temps: 75 | 79 | 75 | 72 Multiplier x45 @ 1.150 V Temps: 77 | 82 | 77 | 74 Multiplier x46 @ 1.150 V Temps: Failed Prime95 Multiplier x46 @ 1.175 V Temps: Failed Prime95 Multiplier x46 @ 1.20 V Temps: 84 | 89 | 84 | 80 Multiplier x47 @ 1.20 V Temps: Failed Prime95 Multiplier x47 @ 1.275 V Temps: 100 C on CPU #2 - Stopped Testing Final Result - Tested additionally with 15 Minutes of Prime95 - Stable Temperatures Multiplier x46 @ 1.20 V Temps: 86 | 91 | 86 | 82 What are my next steps? Thanks in advance. -NinjaOfSEA

I'v just reinstalled my h100i with my 4790k and I wanted to know if these temps are OK because I'm paranoid that I didn't put the paste on right lol. While running the blend test with prime 95 I'm getting around 75 degrees, maxing out at 80-81. Are these temps OK for a i7 4790k at stock clock with a h100i, also how long do you guys recommend running the stress test for?

So recently ive won a graphics card from AMD, Ive had all kinds of problems with it so I got a new one and had the same problems, I think its a compatibility issue, but anyways I ran prime95 to see if maybe it was a CPU issue, I got the error "rounding was 0.5 expected 0.4" on the first blend test, so I changed back to my 7970 and the test is working fine now? I figured the gpu wouldnt be the cause for a cpu intensive program but can it? very strange.

Hi I was wondering if it is safe to run prime 95 with the stock intel cooler. I haven't received my corsair h100i yet, and I just wanted to see how my cpu performs. Hey there, lovely people of the forum!!! So a month ago I build my gaming computer. Games run just fine, 60+ FPS, Ultra, blah, blah, blah, everything is fine. Then I try to run prime95 for a couple of hours. Temps are good, passed the stability test. My gpu is max of 80C in Furmark(GPU BOOST 2.0 default temps). Good too. But when I run both of them my gpu is on 40-80 % load and furmark with MSI kombustor lags a bit. I tried to tweak windows for maximum performance, updating bios, underclocking the CPU(My FX8350 is at 4.4ghz at the moment), tweaking the GPU settings, reinstalling the components, updating all the drivers. No succses so far.... The psu is enough (750w) and I don't know what to do!!!
