  1. Greetings fellow members, It just so happened that tonight I decided to put my Acer V15 Nitro with an Intel i7-6700HQ to good use by joining the Giant Internet Mersenne Prime Search through running Prime95 in the background. Before I indulge too much in the race to find the largest prime number, I was wondering exactly how much of my internet bandwidth will be consumed by this process. My internet service provider (Rogers Wireless) has placed a cap of 100 gigabytes on my ADSL usage. Since Rogers and Bell are the most reliable ISPs in Toronto, I am reluctant to switch to a lesser known ISP even though they offer unlimited home internet due to concerns with reliability. Secondly, I have been noticing a worrying trend amongst Skylake i7 processors where the CPU undergoes rapid temperature spikes (increase in temperature by 23 Celsius in one second) and tends to thermal throttle very frequently. With my current setup (Acer V15 Nitro, CoolBost turned on) the application (Prime95) utilizes around 99% of the CPU heats it up to a whopping 97 degrees Celsius. While I am aware that my respective CPU's Tj max is 100 degrees Celsius, can I affect the longevity of my processor my running it 3 Celsius below its Tj max for approximately 10 hours daily? Besides, my room temperature fluctuates between 19-20 Celsius. Thank you.
  2. AMD Ryzen Master overclocked CPU freq @4GHz w/ 1.325 volts. However, temperature rapidly starts increasing with prime95 after 2 minutes it hits 80C... since it continues raising up I stop the prime95 test. IDLE temperature is 40C. Open bench. YES I AM LOOKING AT TDIE TEMPERATURES. SO FAR THESE TEMPERATURES MATCH WITH AMD RYZEN MASTER SOFTWARE. Why it is running so hot? MSI x399 Carbon Pro Corsair Vengance 3200Mhz RGB (16GBx4) AMD Threadripper 3.4GHz-->4.0GHz PSU HX1000i Corsair H100i V2 Liquid Cooling
  3. Ok, so I recently got a Thinkpad T460p ( i7-6700hq) and i decided to undervolt it. When I undervolt for 150mV and do the stress test using prime 95, the cpu temp. skyrocket to more than 95 °c in less than 1 minutes so I thought the undervolting is not enough so i try 160mV ( >95 °c) and the same things happen and I quickly stop prime 95 but then the computer froze, later I tried undervolt 155mv ( obviosly it would fry my cpu more than 95° in a few minutes too) 2 times and I also press on the stop button but in these 2 cases the computer doesnt froze. After that I tried to disable turbo boost and 1 hour stress test at 160mV (155mV should be fine too) undervolting is fine (max temp 80) but when i tried 170mV ( without turbo boost too) bsod happen again. What should i do? Actually if I I disable turbo boost and run at stock voltage , the laptop will already skyrocket to more than 95 °c in a few minutes. If I undervolt it between 155-165( without turbo too) it would stay below 80 degree celcius ) I would like to go for the non-software method but I hope that there is anyone who cant help to analyse and tackle my issue before I do the thermal repaste...
  4. Source: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3159716/4790k-aida64-cpu-fpu-test-showing-100-degrees.html Thoughts? I have an i7 4790K (not overclocked) and was looking forward to stress testing it with Prime95 overnight or for a day to check if it's unstable or not. I have stressted my CPU with AIDA64 running just the FPU test. The temps hover around 85 degrees celcius on a Dark Rock Pro 3. 1) Is that good or bad or bad but normal? 2) The only other problem I think I've experienced is when I run a GPU stress test on that same screen by itself, the CPU clock graphs sometimes dip ALL the way down for a quick moment and then go back up. Why is this? Is this something to worry about? Someone else has experienced this: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-3123898/aida64-cpu-stress-test-question.html
  5. Hey guyz. Sorry for my bad english.. i have a x58 asus p6t mobo with x5670 on it.. my cooler is cooler master masterair ma410p with two fans. now i overclocked that processor from 3.3ghz to 4.3 ghz at 1.38v. i cannot make it lower then that because the cpu become stable.. now i was stress testing my processor with aida 64 before where my cpu didn't throttles.. but now i tried to stress test it with prime 95 and my processor starts to throttle after 30 seconds or so.. now my question is that should i drop some overclocking or i should believe on the results of aida64? which test is more closer to gaming.. because my main purpose is gaming..
  6. Hi all, So i want a few questions answered, y is it that i can get a stable overclock with a lower voltage using aida64, then when i use prime95. Aida 64 i can get 5ghz at 1.3v but i think i could get but still testing... all my cores are 100% and staying there and no crashes... and avx is at 0 and temps are about 80-84 max on 1 core When i use prime 95 i have to put on a avx offset at 2 and my voltage is about 1.34... to get a 0 avx i have to go higher and my temps are round the 95- 100 mark What i want to know is whats the best way to make sure my system is stable for gaming i dont do anything on it other then game and watch films Are these temps to high? And i want to know if there is a way to get my temps down and still have the avx at 0 And i want to know is it better to have the oc stable from prime or aida?
  7. I'm coming here because I cannot find the answer literally anywhere online. I've been trying to overclock my 8700k to 4.8GHz. As I'm running Prime95, the processor starts out at the 4.8GHz clock, but for some reason clocks go down as low as 3.8GHz and often hold ~4.1-4.2GHz. I'm on manual voltage control set at 1.31V currently and am unsure where to go.
  8. I'm new at this. My teacher at school was talking about prime numbers. He was talking about the Great Mersenne Prime Search. He told us if you had a good computer, try finding primes using it. I have a decent PC with a Ryzen 5 2600 at 4.0ghz. Here's my current progress so far, how do you know if you've found a prime number. Also what does the ETA thing stand for. I've been running prime95 for almost the past day now. 20200125_134716.mp4
  9. Lately I've gotten crashes and black screens, so I tried to get to bottom of it by running Prime95. And it works fine (Blend mode) for about half an hour. After that fails always either thread 3 or 4 or both. So my CPU might be defective? I've tried several RAM sticks and lowered OC to default speeds but yet 3. or 4. thread fail. I'm guessing theres nothing else to do than buy a second CPU to test? My CPU specs are in my profile, but motherboard is GA-Z270X-Gaming K5 and CPU 6700K. CPU delidded and at 4,6GHz (1,3v) Also, Small FFTs runs fine. Maybe memory controller faulty or overheating? Though temperatures of CPU under load are below 80C. Haven't run Memtest86 much longer than 30 minutes, as usually memtest reacts faster to RAM errors than Prime95. And memtest86 does not find any errors. --- But maybe VRM MOS gets too hot?
  10. I recently took apart my computer to do a thorough cleaning and improvement on my cable management. After I put my computer back together I got in any game and soon after starting it would crash, this escalated to getting the BSoD quite frequently even when I was only trying to log into windows. The error codes on the BSoD were always changing each time and this became a cycle of restarting until I turned off the computer. I tried taking my hardware out to localize the problem but nothing worked, not even reseating my cpu, gpu, ram, or taking out all my power connections and cleaning and putting them back in. I even did a factory reset on windows. killing all of my previous files. I found that once I turned off my OC that it fixed the problem, but once I turned it back on the BSoD persisted, I've used OC on this rig for a while but this is a new issue. I have just recently started using prime 95 as was recommended to me in an earlier thread. When I am not overclocking my cpu I can run it for a complete 12 hours and not have an issue. however once I start OCing things change. The smallest FFTs has no issues but once I use small and large FFts I get the hardware failure detected. The blending test does cause the failure as well. What does this mean? Do I need to test my ram and put different ram in my current system? Thank you for your help! Parts list: CPU: i5 6600k GPU: GTX 1070 MOBO: Asus Z170-A CPU Cooler: Kracken X61
  11. Earlier this day, I undervolted my CPU. I was pretty sure that it's stable since Prime95 didn't show any errors and everything passed, CPU is maxed at 75°c. Now, the thing is, when I stopped prime95, the moment I clicked stopped at Prime95, I heard the fan stopped spinning then I just felt something so hot in my laptop for a few seconds, let's say around five seconds. Then the BSOD showed. I just restarted the Laptop, then it showed me a message to go to BIOS, I just skipped BIOS and just clicked discard w/o saving anything. Then my Laptop started without errors. So, is there something that I did wrong? Or maybe it was just because of the heat when the fan stopped spinning? In case you want to know, I'm running on AC at that time, it was 28°c here when I started running Prime95.
  12. I just noticed that the blend test in prime95 only maxed out at 25% ram usage even after 16 hours. I'm using version 26.6 since I have a 9700k. Is this normal? I thought I remembered blend using almost 100% of the ram during the blend test. My ram overclock passes all other benchmarks and memtest86 so it's not a bad stick or anything.
  13. Hi, I stress tested the CPU overnight with no problems the first time. I then overclocked my memory and tested it with memstest86+ with no errors. I ran my prime95 stress test again after the memory overclock and it shut down the computer at some point. I have another one running now where I increased the ram's voltage by a little bit to see if that fixes it, but in the mean time... do you guys have an idea of what to do next? I had this issue before the last time I overclocked and I can't remember for the life of me what fixed it. I think more voltage to the CPU even though it's the change in the memory settings that caused the failure. Anyways, I logged my hwinfo data and have a spreadsheet, so if you want to look it over and see if you can find a clue I didn't, be my guest: ASRock z390 taichi, i7 9700k, asus strix gtx 1080 oc gaming edition, 3200mhz Corsair vengeance pro RGB, 500gb samsung 970 evo, etc. 5.1ghz overclock on CPU, 1.28 vcore, cache 4.6ghz, level 2 LLC, ram: 3600mhz 1.38v 18 19 19 39. 14. Hello, I have 2 very old servers: - Sun Microsystems Sun Fire X4100 with 2x AMD Opteron 254 - HP ProLiant DL360 G4 with 2x Intel Xeon 3.60 GHz (Nocona) Both of these systems had very bad problems, from turning off and power cycling randomly, to not turning on at all and just a bunch of weird issues. I spent an entire day stripping them down completely, cleaning everything, and heat-cycling them with a hairdryer (I was really out of ideas), anyway, one of these methods worked and both servers came back to life. I then updated both servers' BIOS and Firmwares. I then created a fresh RAID array and installed Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1 on them (just for testing purposes). I needed a way to stress test them to make sure that they are actually fixed, and that they are not going to just fail on me again. I loaded AIDA64, IntelBurnTest and Prime95 on them (only running 1 at a time though), and proceeded to run the tests. I noticed that they didn't get that hot and even though all CPUs were pinned at 100%, the systems still felt responsive as if there was no load on them at all. Basically, I would like to know if there is a way to stress them extremely hard and really torture the hardware to tell if it is going to be stable. I will run the tests for a week or two to make sure. So far, they have passed a night of AIDA64, but as I said, they don't really seem to be breaking a sweat. I want to push the hardware to it's absolute limits. CPU, Memory, Cache, FPU, Disks, Network etc... really rev them out and take them to their breaking point. Any suggestions will be appreciated! PS. I know these things are extremely old and almost useless by today's standards, and use a lot of power, but I like them and they are still very useful to me.
  15. CPU: i5 6600k MB: Asus Z170 ProGaming AURA So, in the BIOS I overclocked my CPU to 4386 MHz with core voltage of 1.270 V. EDIT: Base clock is 102 and the multiplier is 43. I ran Prime95 and x264 Stability Test software for ~3 hours and got different voltages and clocks on 4 different programs. CPU-Z was showing 4387 MHz with 1.280 V which is fine since I have LLC on. HW Monitor was showing 4386 MHz with 1.320 V which is pretty abnormal but I don't know, maybe it's right? Task Manager was showing 4270 MHz which is totally off my BIOS setting. Finally, MSI Afterburner was registering 4301 MHz which is also off. How do I know what's right?
  16. Hey all, brand new pc. Running a NH-D15 Cooler for my Ryzen 3900X. I am worried its running too hot, and was hoping to get input as to if it is, why it could be, etc. This screenshot on HWinfo was taken after after I had been running Prime95 Small FFTs for ~10 mins (Was taken while running the stress test), and I was wondering if there's any evidence of my CPU running too hot in the screenshot. Any help is GREATLY appreciated since this is my first costly pc build.
  17. Hi Everyone, i've a problem with my newest build. The build fails the small fft test with Prime95 if i set the ram at 3600 or up, no matter the voltage, i tried also to 1.40v but no luck. The problem is that the ram supposedly should ran at 4000mhz, 16x2 Crucial Ballistix Max RGB 4000mhz 19-18-18-18 I tried different things increasing voltage, disabling XMP, changing timings, the only thing that work is lowering the frequency to a maximum of 3400: this way the prime95 pass for more that 1h. I was able to exclude a CPU problem (well i think i can exclude) because at 2667mhz lowest frequency, the CPU pass the prime95 for more than an hour, also undervolted to 1.20v. I also tried with different memories (3000mhz Dominator Platinum at 3200 15-16-16-16) at 3200 and the test is passed for more than 1h with the cpu in downvolt too. Cinebench 20 runs with no problems at every clock speed, also multiple times. My parts list is the following Ryzen 3900x Mobo Gigabyte Aorus X570 I pro wifi Crucial Ballistix Max RGB 4000mhz cpu Cooler Mugen5 tuf rgb Case ITX InWin A1 I read somewhere else that i could try using Vcore offset +100 mV, or in another discussion, where the problem was related to the memory, switch VDDCR SOC Voltage to offset mode but don't know if this is the case, and plus i don't know where i can find it in the Gigabyte BIOS ...(not very familiar with it, as i'm a first time gigabyte user) Can someone please help me ? Really really upset i can't use my new build safely
  18. Hi all! I have been having lots of bluescreen issues lately, and from what I can tell it appears to be CPU related. The errors frequently change, but the most common I get is driver_irql_not_less_or_equal. I figured this was due to an unstable overclock, but after hours of tinkering I eventually set my bios to defaults and tried running prime95 only for worker #6 to consistently fail. I have already reinstalled windows (blue screened several times during the process), disconnected all secondary ssd's, reseated both my ram and gpu, as well as cleared cmos and updated bios. On the bios update page I noticed there is a note to update the intel rapid storage technology driver, but it looks like I don't have that on my install of windows. My specs are as follows, and I have attached everything seemingly relevant from prime95. I think I may have a dead core, but I wanted to see what you all think before I go and buy all new hardware. Thanks in advance! NOTE: The cpu has been stable at 4.8Ghz @1.34v for the past 2 years, I started having issues roughly a month ago and it has only gotten worse up until today Aorus z370 gaming wifi (rev 1) Intel 8600k (cooled by cooler master 120mm AIO) 2 x 8gb 3600mhz Corsair vengeance ram msi duke 1070ti EVGA 650 GQ psu local.txt stress.txt prime.txt results.txt
  19. After an hour of undervolting I finally got my CPU under 75C an hour of stress testing on a small FFT prime 95 after workload on a laptop.
  20. I have my voltage offset in my Gigabyte motherboard set to +0.120 V just testing a 3.85 GHz overclock, but I saw this in HWinfo during a full blend torture test in Prime95: So what's the deal? I thought Ryzen 5 1600 base voltages were 1.25 V, 1.20 minimum. 1.25 + 0.12 is not 1.238. I'm sure HWinfo isn't wrong, so why isn't the voltage offset doing what I tell it to? Am I just misunderstanding the core voltage? Maybe I'm misunderstanding principles of electricity. Maybe it has something to do with the blend test, but I'd doubt it. I've asked about voltages before, I'm mostly just having trouble getting a good reading during benchmarks and stress tests about the actual voltage.
  21. I'm not sure what to make of the behavior I am seeing from my PC when I am testing my RAM. Neither MemTest64 or prime95 are crashing or reporting errors, but the display signal gets turned off and when turned back on the active program window looks like garbage. I thought it was a sleep state, but I double checked and nothing is ever set to sleep or turn-off in my power management settings. So I am not sure what this is an indication of. Is it unstable RAM even without the programs crashing or reporting errors? If anyone has experienced this please chime in. Thank you. In this scenario the RAM is overclocked and the GPU is overclocked. Not the CPU.
  22. I imagine there are quite a few people that use Prime95 for their CPU stress testing when dialing in their overclocks. I'm also a user, but I can't say I am an expert beyond recognizing when isntability arises. So what I am asking, of you good folks, is to help me learn if there is a log file that can illuminate more than the simple instability it identifies. A log file that can help me diagnose the problem. Furthermore, a particular curiosity of mine is, why is it always the same core that stops working. My experience with Prime95 testing is that it always exhibits the same behavior when instability is uncovered and that is "workers" 5 and 6 (or core #2) stop running. If anyone can help me figure out why that particular core stops then I'd love ya forever.
  23. Is it necessary to stress test your cpu and gpu after building a new pc? if yes, how long should you test each respectively?
  24. Ok, so I was planning on overclocking my literally week-old custom-built system, specs below, but I first wanted to test to stability of the stock configuration. So I ran Prime95, and the fans started to speed up, but 6 seconds after start, the computer restarted. I am thinking at this point “Okay, just a one-off thing, let’s try again.” So I tried again, same configuration, but it turned the system off again after 6 seconds, except it would not turn back on. Rememer, this was all STOCK SPEEDS! I tried every troubleshooting step, swapping PSUs, using each stick of RAM in every slot and then no RAM at all, and having no connections anywhere on the board except for CPU fan, 24 pin, and 8-pin for the CPU, graphics card and storage removed as well. All that the system did was start lights and fans for about half a second, then cut off again, rinse and repeat until I killed the power. Every start, the CPU LED comes in as well. Finally, I got some more life out of it when starting the system without the 8-pin cpu connector, or without the CPU. The system lights and fans start, but nothing else, and the debug LED display does not show any codes in the book (just 00), and the EZ debug LED has the CPU LED lit. There is also no graphics, with or without a graphics card. This made me a bit curious, so I removed the VRM shield to find one of the MOSFET’s fried! There is a picture below. This leads me to believe the board is dead, but I am not sure if it killed the CPU in the process. Is there anyway to test this, apart from using a different board? 25. Hi, I recently upgraded to a core I5-8600K. I managed to overclock it to 4.8GHz, but an issue has arisen. I kept increasing voltage gradually and using Prime95 to test if everything was stable. Well I went to check and see what 1.29V would do, and now worker #1 is completely gone. I've tried restarting my computer, but it doesn't do anything. I was able to test 4.9GHz at 1.31V earlier and it still showed all 6 workers. When I boot up Aida64 and attempt their stress test, the cores are all maxed, but with Prime95 for some reason one just doesn't even show up. What is happening? I couldn't find anything online except workers stopped, never a worker missing.
