Greetings. Ever since the price on the R9 Nano dropped to $450-$500 last year, I've been very interested in the GPU as an upgrade option. Currently, I'm running a Seasonic ECO-430 which only has one 6+2-pin PCI-e power connector. This means that I'll need to spend an additional $75 on a power supply if I'm to upgrade to something like an R9 390, and assuming I can get one for $300 ($375 for both), I'll only be spending $75 more to get a substantially more powerful R9 Nano instead, which will also run just fine on my 430w power supply due to its low TDP, and it only needs the one 6+2-pin PCI-e power connector. However, despite the price drop, its $450 pricetag was still a little too far out of my range, but is still among the best upgrade options available to me. I was wondering whether I can expect its price to drop even further with the release of AMD's new Polaris GPUs later this year, and if it does, how much can I expect it to drop by? My idea is that when Pascal and Polaris comes out, I will wait 2 weeks than i am going to buy a 980Ti just beacouse it will have dropped in price by then. Which 980ti do you recommend? i cannot wait for all the new AMD stuff coming out this year! it has been far too long since we got a good full set of AMD hardware. the last time we got a good full set of hardware was back in 2012 with the FX 8350 and 7970 ghz. i would love for my next workstation to be all amd once again. right now it has a 5820k and 2x 980 tis. the zen and polaris hardware look like they will both be a lot more efficient and powerful. are you as hyped as i am? what's your standing on an all AMD build becoming a viable high-end option once again? are you blue/green team? *insert The AMD Fanboy Song by Tech Of Tomorrow*

Both these companies will launch their latest architecture based graphics card in couple of months. However as of now AMD is leading in Direct-X 12 performance where as Nvidia is lagging. Also AMD achieving significant performance gain using Async compute. So, the future of AMD looks better than Nvidia I guess. What you guys thinks about this? Which 1 will be the better buy out of these?

So I did not pay attention to GPUs for the last 3 years, I'm deciding to buy a new GPU after the release of Pascal and Polaris. But because I've been so long "out of the game" I'm unsure if there are still any benefits to nVidia over AMD. And wanted to see 'non fanboy' opinion on the new generation. So these types of threads are bound to pop up a fair amount while we are all (im)patiently waiting for Polaris and Pascal, to see availability in stores and having some much needed information from reviewers (hoping Linus gets review samples asap). Okay, here's what's going on for me and how I've thought it out. I need a new GPU, last one died on me but even if it didn't go poof-da it would of been high time for an upgrade anyways (HD7870). I'm using a ASUS MG279Q 2560x1440 144Hz monitor so I'm wanting a top end card for high frame rates with pushing that resolution & refresh rate. Information is key big time, specially this time around with new architecture and a process node shrink + other features vs the usual "oh slightly better, a bit more fps 10-20% over last year meh" type deal. I was really hoping to get more information from AMD's capsaicin event to get a better picture over all, but of-course were left with playing a guessing game until an official launch date is made and reviewers get cards/NDA's lifted to actually find out the much needed info we all need & want. So naturally I'm wondering: "how much better is Polaris going to be?" "which cards will we actually see this summer as part of their launch and which ones will come later?" "What about HBM?" etc. What we did get from the capsaicin event is that the Polaris cards wont be using HBM2, so that means GDDR5/X and probably 4 & 8GB cards depending on which one R7/R9 470/480/490 etc. We also got them showing off a system using what they said is their enthusiast Polaris card running Hitman in DX12 mode at 2560x1440 doing a constant 60fps (locked at 60), however we don't know if that was maxed out settings and if it was how much more fps would of it gotten beyond the 60fps lock? By comparison the Fury X is doing 67fps at those settings (would imagine that it should get better with driver updates). So with this its a safe guess to say yes their top Polaris will be better then the Fury X but by how much? and is it worth the wait? What about the others as you trickle down the line shying away from the most expensive card? We don't know this and it makes our purchasing decision annoying to say the least. I was also hoping that with them finally releasing the Radeon Pro Duo and giving Polaris information it might of lead to the Fury X price going down a bit (yeah wishful thinking). At the earliest we will see retail units in stores is by June so 3 months, but when you account for possible delays, and hey lets face it, it happens often in the video card industry so that shouldn't be a shocker. Plus the inevitable wait for the add-in board partners to release them with custom coolers and not stock reference ones & supply and demand stock issues. Well then.. that actually is more like a 4-6 month window if you think about it. So what's going through my head is that I can wait anywhere between 3-6 more months to get the top of the line Polaris which should be better then the Fury X for the same price. Or save a bit of money by getting the 2nd or even 3rd best Polaris which I would guess will be on par or slightly below what the Fury X can do(totally guessing here). Or say piss on it and just enjoy a Fury X now. All the while keeping in mind that I don't have a working GPU atm and there for cringe at the thought of waiting up to 6 months, hell even 4. Oh and of-course with Polaris once officially out making prices on the R9 300 and Fury series get a price cut adding more options to the table. /discuss

Not sure what the new card lineup is going to bring to the table and wanted to do more research before I actually posted this, though so much is on my plate it's hard to get everything done and I'd rather keep the initial post at least a bit shorter. Main pc components will be listed below. I am currently running 1080p 144hz monitor and have little to no problem with frame rates in most things I play don't mind lowering the settings a little here and there. However I have a 1440 21:9 on the way that I'm worried my card (7970) wont push. Now I have recently been upgrading random things but not many core components. I worry that by upgrading my gpu I may then have to upgrade my psu and then perhaps even my cpu due to bottle-necking. I am also back and forth on waiting for the next lineup (likely Polaris/AMD) or just ordering what I can now. If I wait I suppose I can get the older cards on an even better sale or grab up on those new features HBM and whatever else. Well that's my case let me know what you all think and hopefully help guide me on my way a bit. Hey, am thinking of buying a 980ti for gaming in a couple of months. I heard that nvidia is gonna launch new gpus in 2016.So should i wait for their pascal line or is 980ti still worth is for 4k ultra gaming. And dont mind going for the red team, Amd. I know I already posted a topic on this. That thread will be the one about the event, and I will make this one the one about all the info that comes out. Chances are we will get a ton of info from Capsaicin so I didn't want to throw all the info onto that thread since that would make it the biggest thread ever that will take forever to read, so instead I am making this one so you won't need to read as much. In case you don't know what I am talking about: Here's a little refresher: AMD is hosting an event they call "capsaicin" at GDC (Game Developer's Conference) Monday March 14, 2016 (today as of March 14) at 4:00 P.M. In 2018 we will be getting Navi It is not certain what memory Polaris will get, though amd seemed to be saying Vega will be the first with hbm2 so it might have ggdr5/x or hbm- Amd has said Navi will have "next gen memory"... Unfortunately, though, we haven't really gotten to learn much about Polaris and the furyx2. Well, tomorrow we may finally learn some more information about em. As you can see, tomorrow RTG will be hosting an AMA on Reddit, and will be answering (nearly) all of your dying questions about the Furyx2, Polaris, Dx12, VR, GPUOpen, and anything else you can think of related to GPUs. Unfortunately, they won't be talking about Zen, but that was probably expected since its RTG we're talking about, not the whole of AMD. I'm pretty sure its fake, but I want to hear you guys' ideas. If its believable (I don't think it is) then it has 6144 stream processors, 50% more than the Fury X. That seems decent, except I think it's fake.

This time, the GPU has been spotted on South Korea's RRA's public domains. The RRA certification is basically a certification that all ASICs need to go through. However, South Korea publishes all of them publicly. However, this board has not been spotted on Zauba before. Perhaps we missed it. However, all AMD GPUs have a certain code name which lets us easily spot them. I'm not sure this is big Polaris, but it's obviously some sort of Polaris. I guess only time will tell what it really is.

However, I personally feel the 16 million part might also be a bit of a hint. Perhaps Polaris 10 has 8.6 billion and 11 has 16 billion? As well, they seem to be talking about hot and spicy stuff, which could either be just confirming that Polaris is really efficient or could mean AMD is planning on releasing an extremely powerful version of Polaris. I personally am not sure what this all means. Tell me your thoughts!

However, if you were careful you may have noticed that the GPUs are the m5 430 and the r7 m460. Wait, those are the 400 series! Not the 300 series. And those aren't out yet! Yup, it seems like Polaris GPUs are gonna be in these laptops. But Polaris isn't even released yet! Unfortunately more details about the upcoming GPUs in the laptops aren't available. These laptops will be shipping in July though. Chances are Polaris will be unveiled before then. Perhaps it will be out as early as April! It seems AMD is quite a bit ahead of Nvidia if laptops with em are already coming!

All but one are worth about 150 usd. They all seem to contain 2 gb gddr5 ram. Oddly though the last is listed around 600 usd. As well, the others say that they contain GDDR5 while this one doesn't. Strange. HBM or GDDR5X? However it is only 4gb, that doesn't seem right for a 600 usd card? Then again these aren't official. We've seen weird prices on early version before. It could be the 232 mm^2 card we've been seeing lately. However, it'd be strange if it really was 600 usd. I would place its value (if it had HBM) at something more like 300-400 USD. This is interesting, seems to match with AMDs recent teasers. Perhaps they might even launch Polaris at the GDC conference.

I have an old GTX 770 with 2 GBs that is really starting to lag behind. I have been waiting to upgrade for a while. I thought about moving to a 980 ti but with the bottlenecking at 1500MHz that GM100 cards have I didn't want to invest in a product that is already stretched to it's limit. I game at 1440p60 and I am hoping to get into VR later on. I also stream, edit videos, and plenty of other tasks that take a lot of power. I have an i7-5820K as well as 32 GBs of DDR4 in my build currently so I shouldn't see any bottle-necking with any card. I have a 1000 watt PS so I have plenty of room for upgrade. I really am starting to see some diminished performance and I was looking for an upgrade but I also expected Pascal and Polaris to come out earlier but from what I have seen they are going to be a while so I want something that can tied me over or just last. Keep in mind that if I plan on using the card for a long time I want to watercool it so I think that takes the 380X out already. Thoughts?

I am looking to upgrade when the new cards come out. I have an amazing MSI motherboard, an i7-5820K which I don't plan on changing anytime soon, and I have 32 GBs of DDR4 memory clocked at the lowest speed (I'm going to water cool it all soon but haven't done so yet). I want a card that's going to last me a while so I was going for a Titan, Fury, or other flagship. I was hoping for at least 8 GBs of video memory (HBM). im rambling so here are my actual questions: Which card is going to come out first? Pascal, Polaris, or Fury X2? Which card is going to give the best performance for the money? Which will give the best actual performance, especially once watercooled? Do you think waiting for the price of 980 ti's is a ether price to performance stunt?
