Gaming Build - The Yin Yang So I'd like to start of by saying, that this build is not yet 100% complete, more like 90% complete. As a final stage, I'd like to share my build with you guys here at the LTT forums, and hear what you have to say about it. I'm looking for suggestions on what I possibly should change. As far as I can see, this seems to be a pretty decent gaming build. And it will serve my needs very well. I'm going to use this computer MOSTLY for gaming, at 1440p and even 4k. I may even try to do some streaming and lighter content creation such as video editing. Before I show you the part list, I'm aware that a Ryzen CPU would be better at content creation, however since gaming will be the focus of this build, I went for an Intel CPU instead. Since most games seem to favor faster single cores. I want to be clear, I'm not looking to start a CPU war with this thread, if you feel like bashing on each others opinions, try to keep it in your individual inboxes instead. And if you are curious about my opinion, I believe that both Ryzen and Intel provides amazing CPUs, but in this case I chose an Intel CPU because I have great experience with them. I didn't really have a budget for this build, but I tried to keep it under 2000$. And I think I did a pretty good job at that, I do have around 300$ left to spend If I like, but the cheaper, the better! Naming a computer can seem abit silly to some people, but just for the hell of it, I decided to name mine, Yin Yang. You will notice that my build has a white/black theme hence the name . When it comes to peripherals, I use a G710 keyboard from Logitech and a G900 mouse from Logitech. The part list can be found down below.

Hello Tech Tips Community I am in the process of ordering parts for my first build using pcpartpicker link here: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/TerrellB/saved/B9wBmG I had a couple questions as I really want save as much money as possible. First off should I worry about buying a z170 board instead a b250 board to future proof my pc? Is another 60 bucks on a 120 gb add worth it to add win 10 on it or is a 1tb hdd good enough for now? Should I buy a cheaper case and spend that money elsewhere or just wait to buy a s340 case which I think is beautiful? Praise all who respond and ty for reading!

Hey, first Topic, so let me know if any particular edits need to be made but the essential gist of the topic is such; I am planning a parts upgrade of my computer to better fulfill the purpose for which I built it in the first place. BEFORE COMMENTING, Please read the entire start topic. So after originally posting this thread 2 months ago I meant to update it about a month ago but ran into technical difficulties. That being said below in the spoiler is the updated design recommendation requirements. With all of that being said, my current rig looks something like this and will eventually be different, currently this is a long term project and my intention is that once the CPU and Board are switched I won't be upgrading further for over a year at least. Current Rig: CPU: Intel i3-6320 @ 3.9GHz (Not overclocked, Stock cooler.) Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1 RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 2133MHz 16GB GPU: ZOTAC NVidia GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 Case: InWin GROne Full Tower Case Power Supply: Rosewill Bronze 1000w Hard Drive 1: PNY 480GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD Hard Drive 2: Non-Descript 1TB Toshiba HDD (Salvaged from old HP desktop) If any more info is needed let me know and I'll put updates beneath this line. Updates: 6/6/2017: I have purchased My OS and a single 480GB PNY NVMe M.2 SSD, I expect both to arrive by next week at the latest, so that will be part of my project soon. 08/08/2017: The OS and Drive are functioning and my rig has seen immense gaming performance boosts on that alone. I am currently looking into drive expansion and then case switching but with no clear idea on which I'd prefer to do first. Also Considering a Graphics Card upgrade before all of those as I worry about the little 1060 sitting inside my computer.

Hi there! When summer comes, i am planning on building a new computer as the old one can barely run minesweeper at 10fps. I do a lot of video and image editing(hense the 4tb HDD) and a lot of gaming as well. This is the setup i have made so far, but there are a lot of issues with it. 1: I have not checked compatibility yet. 2: It is a bit too expensive, i would like it to be more in the 2100-2200 dollars range, so what else can i buy that is a bit cheaper which won't bottleneck the rest? If you know anything more about computers than me(Which means, you don't need to know a lot) then i would really appreciate if you could give me a hand. PS: if you see anything more that is wrong then please comment that as well Thank you (:

I thought there should be a thread here that allows users to submit ideas of what they would like to see in future episodes from the LTT, CSF & TQ branches of LMG. i am voting for an updated recommended build guide seeing as Ryzen 5 & 7 are now available. also bring back rugged man please!

I've been jotting down possible build ideas a week before Ryzen 7 was released, but I can't help but doubt myself in my part choice. I've checked for compatibility for weeks, but something doesn't feel right. Does anyone know where I could be going wrong? Any comments will help me out a ton! I don't want to make a mistake now and regret making it later when it comes time to build her. FYI: I already have dual RX 480s in mind, but I do want to wait until we see what AMD will release with their Vega cards before I make that decision.

Hello, I would like some feedback on this build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Y7fhJV It is a going to be a gaming computer running most Triple A games. If there are any suggestions on what to add or improve on, please let me know. I would like to keep it close to $1,600 and I would like to keep it running for a good bit. Thank you

I've used one or two AIO's in the past (I just threw a NZXT X61 in for my i5-4690K not too long ago and pushed it up to 4.8 GHz), and but the expandable AIO's really tickles my fancy. That said, with two Swiftech H220's suffering from pre-mature failure within 24 ~ 48 hours, that has kind of pushed me away from expandable liquid cooling kits for a few years...until now. Initially, I had planned to grab myself a 240 mm EK Predator, but they ran out of stock at NCIX. They then become End-of-Life before re-stock, and projected to be replaced by the upcoming EK-MLC line-up in Q2 2017...as confirmed by our @EK Luc. I really want to get a better cooler so I could push my i7-6800K a bit more. The idea was to get a Hyper 212 EVO as short-term (e.g. one month), and get hold of a EK Predator...but as mentioned above, things changed. In the heat of things, I began looking at the NZXT X61, and X62...hoping to possibly use that as substitute until the EK-MLC's come out.... The NZXT X62 is already going to cost me ~$200+ Canadian Pesos (yes, cuz craptacular USD exchange rate), so might as well spend a little more, and get a full custom liquid cooling kit. I'd have to buy a X61 / X62, then grab a EK-MLC cooler when THAT becomes available. Why not just get a full water cooling kit at that point? I am looking at the 240 / 280 / 360 kits from the Slim (S), Liquid (L), and Performance (P) series. The clear tubing, higher-end CPU block, and more importantly, the better pump is making me lean towards the P-series kits. Unfortunately, there seems to be a significant price jump going from the L-series up to the P-series, and I am wondering if the extra cost is worthwhile. For an example: The S240 goes for $243.99, and the S360 for $268.39 EK L240 is $292.79 USD and the EK P240 goes for $426.99. THEN a step up, the 'Extreme Series' X240 is $439.19 -- but the thicker radiator may be a problem. For now, I plan to JUST cool my i7-6800K...my two Sapphire NITRO R9-Fury's are still doing okay on air. 240 mm, 280 mm, and 360 mm radiators shouldn't be too much of a problem since I am using a Phanteks Enthoo Pro LUXE Tempered Glass case. I feel like 240 or 360 is the way to go, as 120 mm fans are more widely available (IMO). LTT community, what is your take on this ??

Hello trusty adventurers in the realm of the great mighty linus! and ... okay i can go back to a more norman voice? ... okay ... confuse people? ... i get that. I am here to start my build proccess to build my first computer all on my own. The computer my uncle around build 5-6 years ago with the beastly i5 2500k and my trusty hd6970 has done me well through all these years, yeah i allways droped a few settings but only last year my buid reached its limmits. Dropping everything to low and going 720p didn't help to get those sweet 60FPS. the offenders? nearly every new game! So the baseline is: I am going for an ultrawide 1440p drop some settings system as i plan on upgrading my gpu but i am going for a good monitor right now. I do some rendering and some software development as a hobby but i dont need any brand specific features as they are usualy not realy important. my basic idea is to go for a system with the Ryzen r5 1600 or 1600x and i am concidering to wait for Vega, even if it wont be that good some competition could make my dream buid come true. the problem is i am not that savvy concerning the other parts so i need your help good people! My budget is around 1200€ or the equivalent in Germoneys and my location is Germany. What do you think, will my dream of a nice build come true? Cheers, UltimateCube

I'm gonna be building a PC around Feb/Jan of 2017, So I'm wondering if its worth waiting for KabyLake? http://pcpartpicker.com/list/bzrzZ8 Current Parts list.

Hi, I'm looking into building my very first PC. I've been using laptops only for a long time (Except our Windows XP Desktop when I grew up) I'm looking for a budget of (Roughly) $2,000 Canadian Dollars, but here's the tricky part. By the time I gather the money to build this, my goal is to have it by this time next year. (Early December 2017). I'm going for a Red and Black theme, to match my current gaming chair. My parts I'm looking into (Absolutely nothing is set in stone) are as follows. Geforce GTX 1070 (Preferred MSI) Intel i5-6600k 3.5GHz 16GB DDR4 2400MHz RAM (No brand preference) 480GB SSD (No brand preference) 1TB HDD (No brand preference) Some sort of water cooling (No brand preference) Motherboard: No Preference (Edit: Setup for future proofing EG: SLI Support & 32GB Ram Capacity) Case: No preference, must have a side window. Considering I'm not getting this until late next year or early 2018, what would the logical step-up for these parts be? And based on likely price drops over time, how much would it cost to step up at least the CPU and GPU? Thanks in advance, and any tips not related to choosing specs or pricing are much appreciated.

pc build FROSTBITE - A PC Build/Plan [Constant Updates]
xAbyss posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
0. Introduction Hey guys! First off I'm going to go over my current build so you can get an understanding of what I'm working with here: NOTE: My current build which is a pre-built (All info taken off Speccy for the internals) A case that looks like this: CASE Gigabyte H61M-DS2 DVI Motherboard holding an Intel i7 3770 (with stock fan) All I know of my RAM is that it's 8GB DDR3 (which I may keep for now, as far as I'm aware it's the optimal amount required for games) I have a Western Digital 1TB HDD (I don't know what else is relevant) I believe I have a 550w Power Supply, I don't remember the make but I do remember that it was a Modular Power Supply 1. Budget & Location I am in the UK which means that the currency is £ or GBP - My current budget is around £500 - But I am taking the parts out of my current pc (the one I'm using to type this) and using them for my new pc build (well, technically it's more of an upgrade but I'd like to call it build) 2. Aim I'm going for a system that is good for gaming at 1080p High/Ultra settings on some of the "newest" <- Using that word loosely games that are out there: Battlefield 1, Rise of The Tomb Raider, The Witcher 3, GTA V, Assassins Creed etc. I want to be able to play these games at relatively 60fps or higher with occasional dips to around 50. I will also be recording games and editing them which even with the GTX760 isn't really a problem with the i7 that I have and to be able to still maintain good fps whilst recording in both 30fps and 60. 3. Monitors As of now, I'm running a ASUS VS229 which is a 1920x1080 resolution and 60hz and I'm planning on getting either another ASUS VS229 to match the first one or buying another black monitor of the same specs just to have the freedom of space etc and multi-tasking (I do not plan on gaming with the 2 monitors and would rather play the game on 1 monitor because the border kills me inside :'( ) 4. Peripherals I currently have a Razer Goliathus Speed mouse mat matched with a Razer Naga 2014 mouse which I think is perfect already and I'm not too bothered about my keyboard but maybe in the future I gotta get that high performance pc with a RGB Keyboard AMIRITE - But in all seriousness, I think I'm set for peripherals, I have a blue yeti mic hooked on a mic arm and Audio Technica-M50x Headphones so that's pretty much covered me already. - Any good and fairly cheap keyboards let me know (Under £60 if necessary) 5. Why are you upgrading + Parts Choice etc I'm upgrading for numerous reasons, my current build which you saw above, is okay, but it's getting old for the stuff that I want to do. My GPU by the looks of it is dying with temps of 100+ on even simple games like minecraft, which could be a thermal paste issue, but it also cut my screen black when gaming and then comes back up a second later with the HDMI sign in the top left corner. I'm also upgrading because the tower I have currently is just way too small. For this build, I'm going to be planning on keeping the CPU, RAM, MOTHERBOARD (Possibly, I have a feeling like I need to upgrade it. Please let me know) and my 550w Power Supply As for purchases, I'm going to be buying the: CASE: NZXT S340 Mid Tower PC Case - White - The reason why I'm going for this case is no matter what I do, it's going to offer great cooling and also it has fittings for ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX type Motherboards. + It comes with 2 decent fans anyway GPU: EVGA 3GB GeForce GTX 1060 [Single Fan Model] - Upon watching many different builds, reviews and benchmarks, I believe that this would be my best option for quality gaming at 1080p, which is also really cheap aswell as EVGA's awesome warranty as well as their Step-Up Program has me dying to purchase this card. SSD: Samsung 250GB SSD - This will be to host my operating system and potentially a few games which have issues with load times (Cough, battlefield games etc) - This may be more or a less a future purchase aswell as the extra monitor. CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler - Because honestly, why not. It's going to be better than my current stock fan and plus it comes with thermal paste which I can use and I'd be removing the old existing thermal paste on the cpu and putting on the new thermal paste along with the CPU cooler. Please let me know if I the 212 is going to fit on my current motherboard and if all the parts are compatible (As far as I'm aware the GPU is going to be compatible) and please let me know whether or not I should upgrade my motherboard (ONLY IF NECESSARY AND IF SO PLEASE STAY BELOW £100 and an ATX is preferred) Thanks! <3 -
Hello there ! I have about 600€ to spend on a build,i halready have a HDD and will be using 8g of ram i can either go for: -i5 6500 + gtx 1060 for 640€ (without ssd) -i5 6500 + rx460/1050 (with the ssd) at 575€ or an i3 6100+1060 at 590€ My questions are: -would it be "waste" to couple an i3 6100 with a 1060,any bottleneck ? -should i go for a i5+1060 directly and ditch the ssd ? -would it be worth it to get an i5 with a rx460/1050 ? I plan on playing these games and using those programs : -Gta 5 -Fallout 4/3 (especially those one) -Cities skyline -Planetside 2 (heavy cpu intensive) -Borderlands 2 -Battlefield 4/3 -Kerbal space program(with tons of mods) -photoshop and adobe -Solidwork(fluid/air/materials/engineering simulation, very important) No elitism please,i'm not going to play on eighteen 4k monitors, just a 720p monitor for about a month and then on a 1080p Thanks to all who reply

My build is going to be this build here (Please don't comment on components because I am still choosing some and already own some) My use is going to be gaming / recording gameplay via Fraps. Streaming on Twitch.tv while using OBS Studio, and editing gameplay footage / stream highlights in Adobe Premiere Pro. My editing will not go above 1080p 60fps due to I see no need for it at the moment. I'm debating a cooler such as a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo or a Corsair H60 \ Corsair H100i

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/nQh64C Will be used for photo editing, general family use, and maybe some architecture programs. They want small, silent, and future-proof, and it needs wifi as ethernet isn't an option where it will go. Opinions? Thanks.

Hey guys, im planning ahead for next year late spring/early summer. I want a high end gaming rig that lasts for many years to play on A high to ultra setting (as far as you can "plan" that the graphics won't make a huge leap). I don't know my budget yet, or better: I don't know how much many I will be willing to spend. But it will probably be 3000€-4000€. Anyone got recommendations? Water cooling and a big case is obviously in it (not planned which one though) (I'm searching parallel to this topic for my own)

So at the moment, I'm currently running a 24 inch 1080p 60hz monitor, however I want to upgrade. I've got a 1080ti so I would like to get something a little better. I'm looking at getting a 27 inch monitor, but is 4K worth it at that size? Is it functional? Or would I be best off going 1440p at a high refresh rate? I don't do many real esports titles, I do a lot of gaming, and obviously with the 1080ti I've got along with a Ryzen 7 1700, I don't struggle to get over 150 fps on most titles. Budget would be anything upto about £500 max, thanks!

Hello Everyone! I'm looking for some advice for my new Intel 7900x+GTX 1080Ti Workstation/Gaming Build. So far I have everything done but tube bending. I am looking for a good hard tubing user who likes to plan pipe routes or could suggest some mockups in mspaint for example. Here is my IMGUR Album... I have EK 16mm PETG tubing and just about any fitting you would need. I also have a drain ball valve. There are 2 Rad's total. The top has a 280 and the front has a 420mm. I'm having problems planning the loop out. I plan on using bends for most of the curves instead of fittings however i have several 45's, 90's, 2x45's, Y spliter, and 3F Block Splitter This is the new Cosmos 700p Case. Thanks Everyone here is the album. Parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wwBqGf Album: https://imgur.com/a/4snpK

Hi! So I am somewhat new to the PC world, i had a few growing up but never really needed one for a certain task. I now find myself recording audio and editing videos on a early 2011 Mac Book Pro. It doesn't really keeping up with the programs I use and it is really slow while using the programs or switching between different programs. So I was looking to start saving up and planning to build a PC that I could use to 1.) record and edit audio, and 2.) edit 4K videos on. Like I said I'm kinda new to the building a PC thing so I would love some recommendations! Preferably on the less expensive side of the spectrum but I know some higher end parts will last longer and perform better in the end. Thank you for your help!

Intro So I am building my first PC and have been doing A LOT of detailed research on the topic since March or May 2017. I also did soooo much research on custom water cooling but decided on not doing watercooling after some time of creating my list because it's WAY more money for not that much performance gain and I don't have SLI or SUPER overclocking to really need it. I don't come from a poor family nor rich so I'm not one of those rich kids who just throws money for no reason (I'm not trying to be offensive or show off, just showing my readiness for how much price change I am open to) so I'm ready to spend a lot of money, but not more than what I'm already spending (maybe a little if it's worth it). I will be building the PC below and buying an Oculus Rift with an extra sensor for Room Scale. All this will be done and paid for by my father if I get straight OR (What I encouraged him because I have some pretty hard classes) try really hard but don't get full A's. Everything About the PC First of all, I want to get sleeved cables but they're expensive and I do not know which specific ones I want. WILL NOT sleeve my own, not for my first build at least The PC will be (hooked to two 144Hz G-Sync monitors) for 144hz G-Sync (Maybeee not G-Sync but still probably) gaming (will elaborate later), Doesn't really matter but incase for SOME reason [browsing chrome, doing homework and writing essays,] Photoshop work, Microsoft Visual Studio for learning to and to code in C# (Still SUPPPPER coding noob but know the principles of computer science and am good in coding logic), Unity 3D for learning to and to make games with C# (again, still suppppper noob), and generally should be fast and will be fast because of specs for everything else. Gaming will be mostly FPS and story but I still am looking forward to the awesome graphic potential of the 1080ti STRIX OC Edition. Not gonna SLI because I hate the problems that come with SLI, the problems are 99% game SLI optimization. Gaming will also be VR with Oculus Rift which I am super pumped about. I also wanna try to stream a little which will be good with more cores. Ask away with questions about the list and probably about something I knew you guys will question. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Yq7pf8 Everything Else that I Want to sell or buy For peripherals I have the Razer Deathadder Elite and Razer Blackwidow X Chroma. I will get the Oculus Rift Roomscale bundle so I can get one more sensor for roomscale VR gameplay and will get the Panasonic eneloop pro battery charger (to keep charging batteries for the touch controllers). I will be selling my current Alienware 17 Gaming laptop that costs about $2,500 with 4 year warranty and will put post for it once my Dad is ready and approves once I achieve the expectred grades (PLSS message me if interested because it's gonna be hard to find buyer) I will buy maybe two monitors but probably one because of current spendings and try to sell one of the two (one will go to my brother) BenQ XL2411z that I currently have (because I can't use the 144hz through the HDMI and due to my graphics card I realllly want to hook the monitors through the DisplayPort ports). I'm also gonna be selling my XXL Roccat Taito 2017 mousepad because the big blue edge around the whole thing ruins the color scheme because EVERYTHING in my setup is mostly Black and Red (Or RGB set to red) and some white here and there. I'm also gonna be giving my brother my Logitech Z200s and buying the Bose Companion 2 Series III. I'm also buying a HyperX Cloud II and then thought, "After this, I will have the best of everything." I didn't want to buy mic because I don't really care and even though the HyperX Cloud II's mic isn't the best, it didn't matter because I was gonna only communicate with my teammates and/or friends. But then I did some research on audio and realized that I do care about audio a lot more. (hence me wanting to buy Blue Yeti Pro one day and possibly DAC & AMP a lot later) A lot later after having all this, because I'm spending too much, I will buy a Blue Yeti Pro with pop filter (placed in front of me, don't want a boom arm because it's a lot more permanent and still really like the attached stand and such. I will try the arm one day but don't really like it.) and even later will buy DAC & AMP because I already have good onboard audio with the expensive motherboard, Asus Maximus X HERO.

Hey, ive got a pretty bad laptop rn (an amd a8 apu) and am planning to build a pc. Heres my list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Teo_1221/saved/KfpGf7 (for the graphics card i wil purchase whatever rx 480 or 580 that is the cheapest when im ready to buy, ive also already bought the power supply and hard drive) I'm trying to get about 60+fps at 1080p. how do you think my build is? i know the power supply is low and should be able to run an rx480, but can it run an rx 580? if so, how much overclocking can i get on my graphics card and processor?

Hi, This is my first post here so if I am breaking any forum rules please feel free to point it out, I have read the CoC but mistakes do happen! I'm currently an owner of the Evolv ATX TG case and I'm planning on doing a water cooled build in it, as it is now I only have AIO solutions for the gpu and cpu. As I'm studying at uni, time is scarse so this is a bit in the future and I know things will change but I'd like to get an idea what I'm looking for! ^^ My specs are: Corsair Hydro H110i V2 CPU-cooler Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB Intel Core i7-7700K - 8 threads / 4.2GHz (planning to overlock just a little so please keep that in mind) MSI GeForce GTX 1080 SEA HAWK X (probably going to sell this to a friend and buy another card, which would be nice to overclock a tad) MSI Z270 KRAIT GAMING (bought from a friend and will probably change due to colour scheme) WD SSD Blue 250GB 2x WD HDD BLUE 1TB EVGA PowerSupply (PSU) Gold 850W Modular I've never done anything like this before but I would really like to try. I have googled around a bit but haven't found all the answers I needed and it is always comforting to know that someone that knows their stuff has listened to your idea before you try to execute it. ^^ So before I get going, a few basics. a) I'm gonna do a soft tube solution, starting with hard tubing felt a bit too hard for me... b) I do know of some of the problems the Evolv has with water cooling, especially the top but I've addressed this by modding the top so it is now alot more open and is filtered as well. Problems: 1. Radiators. I have read up a bit on FPI and gotten a rough idea on how it works but need to work some things out. i'm looking to buy the radiators from Alphacool (since they have more out/inlets making me able to go in on one side and out the other) and the ones I've looked at have an FPI of about 16. There are two main problems I need help with. a) I currently have Silent Wings 3 low RPM PWM fans as radiator fans and they seem to be doing fine, would these work on 16 FPI or where is the limit for them to still be functional? In addition, are there any other fans that you would recommend I take a look at that are still very silent and better? (have taken a look at noctua etc but would still like to know) b) I was hoping to mount a slim (30mm) 360 radiator top and a slim (30mm) 280 radiator front (not moving the HDDs) but for the love of me I can't figure out if this works natively or not as some people say they have modded and some said they didn't (the manual isn't that helpful either), If you have any recommendations on radiator placement, type of radiators or anything in general I'd appreciate it (with little or no modding preferably). c) The blocks for the gpu are probably gonna be nickel (as far as I know this is mainly more about looks than performance) but some rads are copper. This doesn't seem to be an issue but if I throw in gold will there be? 2. Pump. a) I have looked around but the pump still eludes me.. I would like to have a res/pump combo that's silent and as it stands now I'm buying it from EKWB and it's a EK-XRES 100 SPC-60 MX PWM (incl. pump), is this a good idea or are there better alternatives? It says it's "value oriented" so I guess there is but I have no idea what to look for since I can't find what is important, all I know is that I want it to be silent 3. General. If there are any general things you would like to add or comment on please feel free, I'm eager to hear! Lastly, I would like to apologize for any errors in my spelling, I'm from Sweden so I don't speak this language natively! Price is not an issue so please don't hesitate on that part either. Thank you in advance for your help! PLJ
