I Personally love the Pixel 2 (Not XL.) I don't see what's the deal with a wide curved screen, I honestly really prefer the so called "Chunky looking" one of the regular Pixel 2. It looks more compact and makes it easier to pull down the notifications menu, which I had a lot of issue doing with my current SmartPhone which has quite a big screen. I guess I just like smaller devices in general. Multitasking is very handy as well, I only wish more apps supported it, such as Netflix. The Stock Android experience in my opinion, is by far the BEST Mobile OS experience ever created (This is also why I Installed stock Android apps by Google on my device and replaced the Stock launcher with Google Now, which makes it easy to search in both the Web and in my Apps list) . The Material look is both a pleasure for my eyes and incredibly minimalistic and easy to use. Every interface has some cool effects to it which don't slow down or lag the Device, and they somehow make the whole thing feel more alive, as in more interactive than previous versions of android (talking about the old JellyBean thoguht, 5.0 was a huge jump for Android). The camera looks sweet, color saturation seems to be amazing and video recording is insanely clear. Also love the look and front facing speakers are the amazing. Probably one of my favorite smartphones of all time, it's just the perfection to me. I was wondering what you think about it. I don't really see whats' the big deal with a bigger smartphone. If I want to watch videos at an high resolution, I just open up my laptop. (Ironically my Laptop has a 764p screen while my Smartphone is 1080p). Also does curved glass even make the difference? I found it such useless.

Yesterday, before I went to sleep I plugged my pixel like I always do, and in the morning I saw a battery icon, and the edge of the battery was to the left, and it was filled with red, and it had a charge icon on it. This screen (that I have never seen before today) would appear for like 30 sec, and then disappear and then show up again. When, I tried to power on my pixel, but it just returned to the red battery icon. I solved this it connecting my phone to my computer, and then the normal battery icon appeared back (the white one) Did that happen to anyone, or is it just me? I love my Pixel 2 XL and have had no gripes about it, except one. I'll plug it in to charge in the morning and it'll tell me it's rapidly charging. I'll leave it for almost a half hour and it won't charge any. To make matters worst when I unplug it it'll drop 5 % or more when I unplug it. After moving to a different part of the house and wiggling it to make sure it's plugged in it'll work, but I've tried doing that first thing in the morning and it'll still do it. It only charges on at least the second attempt. Anyone know how to fix it?

My Pixel 2 XL phone went from one charge with the scanner working to the next with it malfunctioning. When i would try to use the scanner i would get a message saying " fingerprint hardware not available." This is making me think the scanner isn't bricked since it can tell when my finger is against it but it won't actually read my fingerprint. I then tried deleting my fingerprint data and re-adding but it wont read my finger anymore. Is there any possible fix besides sending it in for repairs.

Since this is probably one of the greatest tech communities I know this is the perfect place to ask what is the best portable power bank for the Pixel 2 XL is there any people would recommend?

I’ve decided I’d like to move away from iPhone and iOS and would like to move BACK to Android. But which of the two should I choose? I picked out the larger models as I do prefer the larger screen. Cheers guys.

What phone is better for everyday use, as well as heavy app useage

Hey guys, Bit of a story here... I've been an iPhone user for 8 years. Having always kept up with the Android world and seeing how polished things are starting to look on the green side of the fence, I decided to jump ship this year. Just picked up a Pixel 2 yesterday and first impressions -- man this phone feels like a Ferrari compared to my old 6s. Loving the customization, performance and additional features I now have access to. Unfortunately, it's not all lollipops and rainbows... Today whilst spending some time on my phone at work I was downloading a few apps -- Discord, Spotify, Reddit and the like. All of a sudden, out of the blue I started noticing apps I had chosen to download were getting caught at the "Download Pending..." phase and never completing. After getting home this afternoon I continued to try getting my apps to install and update, with no luck despite hours of troubleshooting and exhaustive Google searches on the matter trying about a dozen different things to kickstart the Play store. FINALLY after several hours I got to the point where I could kick off app installs, reboot the phone and ONE SINGLE app would then proceed to download/update with subsequent ones getting caught back in "Download pending" limbo. Repeated this six times, always the same behavior. At this point, I decided F it I'll factory reset I don't have really anything to lose at this point. And so I do... Things go fine after the reset, I'm able to re-install my apps without any hang-ups. Only... I notice something a bit odd. I was never asked to update all the default Google apps like you usually are after booting up a new device. Trying to use Google assistant I received a prompt "To use Google Assistant, please update the Google App." Heading on over to the play store and checking the My Apps category I see I have no pending or available updates, that's strange. When I do a manual store search for any of those apps (Gmail, Maps, Google, etc. etc.) they all have "UPDATE" clear as day right there on their individual pages. Now I have to go through manually searching for each default app in the Store and updating it. This being my first time on Android, I see there are a lot of other framework type things that get installed via the Play Store and so I'm pretty positive I could be missing some things. I guess for anyone reading this who has a deeper understanding of Android... is this experience typical of this operating system? I don't need lessons in troubleshooting or other things, it's my day job. I just really want to love this phone and OS and hate that two days in I'm encountering... this.

The first thing noticed was the exceptional amount of blue tint at off angles: The display tends to shift towards a VERY cool tone at more than 45 degrees off angle. Then, we had reports of black smearing and graininess of the display, as well as people getting upset at the lack of a saturated display mode like the one that ships default on Samsung flagships. To add the nail to the coffin, reports then came in that users were experiencing burn in on the display less than a month after launch! Google responded to all this by announcing that soon they would issue an update that would help with burn in (max brightness would be reduced by 50 cd/m^2 and on screen navigation buttons would fade to a lower brightness after 3 or so seconds of no use), and that would also introduced a saturated mode for the display that would force much more saturated colors to be displayed (more specifically, force colors to target DCI-P3, the display's natural gamut). They also raised the warranty from 1 to 2 years in the US. While the new display gamut fixed the issues of a lack of saturated colors and somewhat helped alleviate burn in concerns, the blue tint, graininess, and black smear were still issues. The Pixel 2 XL came as a very controversial device because of this. Some people said the display was a non issue. Other's said it was, but the rest of the device was so good that they could forgive it. And other's said the display truly was a dealbreaker. But one thing I noticed after getting mine was that the natural and boosted modes and super washed out reds and a darker look in general. The issues weren't there when I switched to the saturated mode. The bad calibration for the natural and boosted modes bugged me so much that I was forced to use the saturated mode. While some stuff is a little too saturated for my tastes, the saturated mode seemed quite accurate so I had to live with it. However, I couldn't find a good display analysis out there that confirmed/denied my own personal experiences. Until now. The first test is a brightness check, in which case the Pixel 2 XL actually does pretty well. Next up we have greyscale accuracy, which essentially checks the accuracy of greys in a display. In the natural profile, we find pretty decent average calibration though a definitely cooler tone at the whites Next up is gamma, and here we see something somewhat concerning. One thing I found very interesting though was that the saturated mode has much better greyscale. Now for display measurements in the natural mode: This basically confirms my own observations of the Pixel 2 XL having weak reds. Stuff like the youtube logo look like a dark red rather than the red they should look like, which is really annoying in day to day usage. Display measurements in the boosted mode: Still, compared to blues and especially greens, reds are quite lacking. Finally, we have the saturated profile. Google never mentioned exactly what it is but we can deduce that this is in fact targeting DCI-P3, the display's natural color gamut. Because of this, we actually find a very accurate mode: We already found exceptionally good greyscale on the saturated mode, and here we find very good accuracy in general. These basically confirm my own observations on the display. The natural and boosted modes aren't great, but the saturated mode is quite accurate. While this indicates the saturated mode is a good mode to set the display to, that still leaves other issues on the table, notably blue shift, graininess, black smear, and burn in. On my Pixel 2 XL the blue shift is definitely there but in normal usage it doesn't get noticed. However, if you're laying it flat on a table or something like that that could result in off angle viewing, it can be annoying, though it's mostly noticeable on white backgrounds (when watching youtube videos with lots of different colors, I don't really notice it). On my unit I don't have any black smear and haven't noticed any burn in yet, but graininess is there. The graininess is best described as the sort of feel you get when you look at a display on a Kindle. While it doesn't bother me at all, it might bother other's out there. All in all, the Pixel 2 XL has a very accurate display when targeting DCI-P3. Unfortunately, this fact is brought down by the hardware issues with the display itself. Hopefully next year we can see Pixels that have great displays, as Google has demonstrated they can calibrate a display very well. HTC has some great design talent and I hope that next year we can see a Pixel 3/3 XL that truly match/exceed other flagships in all aspects. TL:DR, the Pixel 2 XL's natural and boosted modes aren't great but the saturated mode is very accurate.
