I want to add a second graphics card to my gaming rig (2 gamers, 1 CPU!). My Corsair HX650 PSU has two 8-pin PCI-E ports on it, but the first graphics card that I have (EVGA GeForce GTX 670) has two 6-pin ports and the second graphics card that I want (ASUS GeForce GTX 1080) has one 6-pin port. Is it safe to split one of my 8-pin PCI-E ports on my PSU into two 6-pin plugs for the first graphics card and directly use the second 8-pin port on my PSU for the 8-pin port on the second graphics card? Current Specs: PSU: Corsair HX650 (650 W) [has two 8-pin PCI-E ports] Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK CPU: Intel Core i7-3770k @ 3.50 GHz Total Memory: 16.0 GB (DDR3 1600 MHz) Hard drives: Four identical Seagate 1TB BarraCuda SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drives (ST1000DM010) SSD: Samsung SSD 840 PRO (60GB) Case: Corsair Carbide Series 500R Current graphics card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 [needs two 6-pin PCI-E plugs] Additional graphics card I want to also use: ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 [needs one 8-pin PCI-E plug]

So I bought a power supply. it said it comes with two 6+2 pci-e connectors for my graphics card but it has two 3+1 pci-e connectors. I'm buying a gtx 1060 6 gb sc edition gpu. can I put two of the 3 pin connectors into the gpu or do I have to buy a new psu or adapter? My friends said I don't have enough volts to give to the gpu but I don't know what to do.

Here is a result from rFactor 2. It is a racing sim game. PCI-e 2.0 is pretty huge bottleneck for something like 980Ti or above at least. People have already talked a while in that game how it requires huge amount of PCI-e bandwith. Many racing game people play with triple monitors and likely even SLI that usually is then PCI-e x8. Can anyone mention other games where it actually matters this much? Notice that's only 1080p with AA.

Hi! So, I just built my first rig about a day ago. So, I was trying to put my WiFi card into the pci-e slot, but the graphics card blocks the slot partially. The WiFi card could barely fit. Made connections but 1 tiny capacitor was hitting the graphics card fan, stopping it from spinning. I could put in a usb wifi adapter, but that would be slower, and I really dont want another cable behind the desk. Here's my build. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rLpnzM

Hello everyone! I have the ASUS Z97-AR motherboard and I was planning to buy a M.2 SSD drive for it, Samsung SSD 960 EVO (http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-960-evo-m-2-250gb-mz-v6e250bw/) Until I did some research and realized my motherboard's M.2 slot uses PCI express 2.0 and only 2 lanes, so I wouldn't be able to get full speeds from my M.2 drive. Is it possible to get that full speed on my motherboard if I use a PCI-express 3.0 M.2 Adapter for the M.2 SSD? This is the adapter I was looking at (https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboard-Accessory/HYPER_M2_X4_MINI_CARD/) I would also really appreciate any other tips on installing it (what I need to configure in the BIOS to install Windows on the M.2 drive, etc) Thanks!

Can I use an e-gpu with a razer blade or razer blade stealth without buying a razer core or something like that? So I was looking for parts to build my pc, since all I have right now is a laptop with a 3630QM and a GT 630M. My budget was around 700-ish bucks and I wanted to squeeze every inch of performance out of it. I found out that I couldn't go higher than a 1060 6GB which was a bummer. I thought I could sell my laptop and buy the pc, but that wouldn't work since I need my laptop. I started looking around for laptops and a used razer blade with a 1060 at around a 1000$ was the best option I could find. But I said to my self, for the same amount of money I could build a pc with a 1080 in it. So I saw that the 2014 razer blades and all the razer blade stealth laptops don't have a gpu and I could find one for around 500-600$ US. SO now my question is, if I were to buy one of those, would I have to buy a razer core to get an external graphics card, or would I be able to do it some other way? Thanks in advance!

Hi! A few months ago I left the glorious pc masterrace by selling my computer, for various reasons. Now, after roughly 6 months i want to rejoin, by building my first ever gaming pc, which happens to be a budget build. In this case i bought an i3 2120 CPU 8 Gb ddr4 Crucial ram an MSI H110M pro vd mbo and got a great deal for a Gainward GTX 760, for around 70$. Keep in mind, I live in Hungary, and whatever i buy for example on ebay or amazon, i'll most likely have to pay double the price of the item just for the shipping.. I combined these items by searching on the internet, watching benchmarks and learning how these stuff work with each other, it was a great trip. BUT! Theres the PSU... If you look at the GPU, you see that it needs 2 x 6 pin connectors. Idk why, but i can't find any PSU-s with 6 pins in Hungary. I will add some pictures of brand new PSU-s which say they have 0 6 pin connectors. They have molex connectors which you can use with an additional molex to 6 pin, but idk if its the right thing to do.. Anyways, i hope you can help me finish my build, and have a great day!

So, im about to build a new PC and i was thinking whether getting an M.2 SSD will affect me in a negative way. CPU: Intel i7-7700K Mobo: ASUS Prime Z270-A M.2 SSD: Samsung 960 EVO NVMe M.2 500 SSD What is the total amount of Pci-e lanes that my PC will have? If its 16-lanes, having an M.2 SDD that takes up 4x will cause my GPU to get less than 16x? If so, will it affect my GPU's performance by alot? I'm kinda new to this Pci-e stuff, and its kinda confusing me...

When i am browsing for a new CPU i love to take a loooooooot of time looking at the specs but something confuses me .Every Intel CPU that i look up has # Of PCI-e lanes but i do not see that on AMD cpus not even on official amd website. Am i just blind and don't see it , or does amd hide that number on official site oooorrr they don't have this limitation ???? I have a couple more questons : 1 : Do those PCI-e lane reffere to only GPUs and not other cards like : networking cards , sound cards .... ???? 2 : How many of PCI-e lanes does Athlon X4 880k support P.S. I am sorry for bad English , i know how to speak it but i don't know how to write some words. I live ( and am born ) in Serbia so we do not speak English here. Thank you.

This might be a pci lane related problem so I'll start with the details of my rig- I got this mATX motherboard and an i5-6400 (click for links). Inside I've attached a GTX 950 and a TP-Link Wifi Adapter onto the mobo. The front IO panel has 1 usb 2.0 which I don't use and a couple audio jacks. In the back I have 2 usb 2.0 for which I use the mouse+keyboard. Also there are 4 usb 3.0 jacks. I use them for these peripherals - An external Hard disk which utilizes usb 3.0, an Xbox gaming controller, a Phone charger and USB headphones. Inside I've used 3 of the four SATA cable slots for 2 HDD's and an SSD. The issue- Whenever I've tried charging my bluetooth speakers it would charge for 5 seconds and I would hear the not charging anymore sound. It used to be that if I unplugged everything else in the back it would charge but ever since I added a second monitor it has stopped. Now I charge my speakers with a wall socket USB adapter. I also noticed that I can't get iTunes to detect my phone. I can read the folder in 'This PC' but I can't sync it or anything since it doesn't even show up. File transferring on my SSD or the external seems to not use its full capabilities at always caps at around 80mbps. (mega bytes) Have I run out of Pci lanes in my PC? Could this be why the speakers dont charge or my phones not being detected in iTunes? I never have had a full understanding of how pci lanes are utilized.

Hey peeps, wondering if you guys can help me out... So I was planning on a new build: -i7 8700k -Asus Maximus Hero X Z370 -Samsung 960 EVO 250GB M.2 NVMe Upgrading from an i7 3930k, already have a 1070 Strix GPU. Researching the 8700k, I discover that it only has 16 PCIe lanes. Would having my GPU and an NVMe m.2 (utilises PCIe x4) cause any problems? If not/so could you explain how and why? Not completely in the know regarding PCIe lanes Thanks in advance!!! -Grant

Seems rediculous, but i'm extremely frustrated by the fact that I'm unable to remove any of the 6 or 8 pin pcie cables from my gpu. I'm pulling up on lock tab, and I feel like i'm going to break my hardware during my attempt to unplug it. I usually stop when either my fingers hurt too much, or truly feel like I'm about to break something. There doesn't seem to be a tool to remove them safely, and on the new 970 i got, theres straight up no room to stick my finger where the lock is because... the pin is facing down, and not out away from gpu. I can't find any videos on how to do this, everyone I see in videos just does it with ease, am I doing it wrong? Everyone says I shouldn't need to apply any brute force into this, but as i've said, i've done it to the point where I stop because my fingers hurt too much. If i opt to destroy the locking tab(for the 6 or 8pins' locking tab i can even access) is the power cable still safe to use? Is there some expensive tool to safely remove the power cables? Please, help me!

Basically i wanted to buy my first budget computer rig after watching a LinusTechTips video that is: and was browsing through ebay and came across an extremely good deal from a top seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/33954-1016-00116-motherboard-2x-Intel-Xeon-SLBV6-X5660-2-8-GHz-Six-Core-CPU-/162157874655 However i cant figure out the brand or make of the mobo. SO does anyone know if: -this mobo has a pci-e x16 slot -the make and model of this mobo -can typical lga 1366 cpu coolers fit it -how many ram slots -max ram -is it compatible with regular connectors to a stantard atx psu eg, EVGA 500B -does it have sata 6gb/s ports GO TO THIS LINK FOR MORE PICS AND DETAILS: http://www.ebay.com/itm/33954-1016-00116-motherboard-2x-Intel-Xeon-SLBV6-X5660-2-8-GHz-Six-Core-CPU-/162157874655 Thanks! A lot of modern cases are shipping with no mounts for optical drives in the front. No room for DVD drives, CD, Blu-ray. I am well aware most physical media is dying off, but with the amount the government still uses (usb flash drives being completely prohibitive) mastered burned discs are still very much necessary, especially in my line of work. I am curious if a PCI-E DVD/CD drive exists? Is one even possible? Is there anything in PCI-E slot tech that prevents optical drives being used? I would find a optical drive in the back of my PC very handy in the those few used cases where it is necessary, reducing the cable clutter and desk clutter of having a external USB powered DVD drive. Thanks for your feedback.

Using a P6X58D-E mobo, and I currently have a GTX 1070 installed. Now I know its a pretty old chipset (X58) but my question: is using a soundcard and wifi adapter in the other PCI-e slots affecting the available bandwidth of my GPU? On a semi-related note my soundblaster zx didn't give stellar performance in the mini 1.1 slot so had to bump it up to a pci-e x16 slot.

I have a Dell Latitude E6430 laptop that uses a Dell Wireless 1540 (DW1540), but it is somewhat limited and want to upgrade it to something that has 2.4GHz/5Ghz band and bluetooth... Like the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 (6235ANNGW) which I found at an afordable price. They both seem to be Half-size Mini PCI-E... I would like to know your advice on whether I could have any issues?

I often find that the documentation on this subject either leaves a bit to be desired, doesn't emphasize some really important aspects, or is just downright hard to follow at times. Because of this, I wrote my own tutorial that primarily sources personal experience on the topic in an effort to drastically improve the available documentation on the subject (in a sort-of verbose nature). One of the goals of the tutorial is to show the reader examples and explain why things are being done so that the reader comes away from the tutorial with a better understanding of how PCI-e passthrough works overall. Feedback is highly encouraged! Submit an issue or pull request if you think the tutorial needs further improvement. I'm also open to suggestions of any kind. https://clayfreeman.github.io/gpu-passthrough/

Hey, so I want to upgrade the WiFi card from my Asus X556UQ laptop and discovered the following: My WiFi card is a NFGG type However I discovered there's other "sizes" for this same card So my question is, can I use any of those sizes? Thanks!
