Can someone find me a good PCI GPU for a Dell Dimension 3000?
Guest posted a topic in Graphics Cards
I need the best PCI GPU I can get for under 50 usd. It should be able to run Win7 aero with no problems and some light older gaming on the side. Any suggestions? I'm a noob when it comes to older hardware -
I'm looking for a PCI based SSD to buy cause I'm honestly sick of SATA3 bottlenecking, so goodbye old Samsung 840! And from a bit of research the 2 main options that have come up the most seem to be the Asus Raidr, and the Plextor M6e. I know the Raidr uses Raid0 for 2 drives on the PCB, so they're not the same. Any reccomendations? Also the performance in sequentials would be between 700-800 MegaBYTES per second wouldn't it on a PCI based SSD? Thanks in advance for any help!

My question is very basic - many power supplies have PCIE power cables that split into two separate 6+2 pin power cables. I know that this is intended for graphics cards that require extra power. But, if I had two GPUs that each only needed one 6 - pin power cable, could I power them both with the same cable, which splits into two? I appreciate any help, thank you!

So here is the laydown: I am in need of a soundcard under 50 bucks that has a loopback feature, and a headphone amp (32 ohms) I can find the 32 ohm amp pretty much everywhere, but loopback I cannot find jack (get it? )! Any soundcards you guys know of that support hardware loopbacking with low latency? (preferably zero) Thanks for reading, and please help

I just want to know if there are any other PCIe components currently available before I go and get a triple slot GPU that I will double up down the line, essentially blocking any other PCIe lanes. I know of LAN, Wi-Fi, SSD, GPU, RAID and audio cards. Anything I'm missing?

Hey guys and gals, Want to make my rig (http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/stark_source/saved/3x5F) wireless as no easy connection to router. I have a current router/connection to consider, as well as a new router/connection set-up which I will move to in a few months (moving house)). I went straight to PCI cards instead of USB as it seemed cards could offer extra signal strength possibilities. Specific Conditions: The current router is two floors up. (My laptop currently connects to it, though sometimes intermittently, which maybe due to the router overheating (usually a reset helps) or maybe it's due to signal strength, as sometimes a reset doesn't help. Current router connection seems limited to 150mbs (at least that's what my laptop is saying in the connections box, though again, not 100% sure as it's my landlords router/connection so I can't check) Current router may have 5Ghz dual band, but I'm not sure and don't know if I can check from my laptop. The new router, when I move in a few months, will have 5Ghz dual band capacity. New connection will be limited to 76Mbs (BT Infinity Package 2, UK). The router will be one floor down. I'm currently thinking either the TL-WDN4800 or the Asus PCE-N15. I wasn't sure the TL would be worth it, due to connection limitations, though I wondered if this might change in the future, and I know I'll definitely have 5Ghz capacity on new router. Both cards have shown some compatibility issues, though it seems mainly with Windows 7. I'll be on Windows 8. Any advice?

So, I have one of these cards just lying around and I know it works but it works in windows xp I have a regular pci slot on my motherboard, and I'd like to use it as a third output/input. Problem is, I'm running windows 8 pro 64-bit. Question is, does anyone know where I can find drivers for it. It will not work without drivers  It's the regular card you buy from creative, it didn't come with a dell computer difference is hardware dsp vs software dsp on dell model, not sure if that helps

Title says it all, my build is here : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1DZNs Want to buy white sleeved Cables, the Pci power cables as well, and most if not all of the Psu Cables, Now the only problem i face is that my PSU is only semi modular, meaning will be able to use all the cables i buy or will some still not be sleeved?

Hello, I am new to these forums, but I have been a fan of Linus Tech Tips for several months. So far, this seems to be a great, helpful, and friendly community. It might not be the best way to introduce myself by asking for some help, but I would greatly appreciate it. Hopefully I can contribute back to the community once I become more knowledgeable. I received an old computer from my dad's work for free. It is a Dell Dimension 3000 workstation and it has: CPU: Pentium IV 2.8Ghz HDD: 80GB HDD (IDE) RAM: 2GB DDR 333Mhz PSU: 250W PSU Other Components: CD Player and Floppy Drive (IDE) Not sure what the Motherboard is I'm looking to get some better performance graphical wise. So far the "best" (performance wise) GPUs I've been able to find that will fit in a PCI slot are a Nvidia Geforce GT 430, Nvidia Geforce GT 610, and a Nvidia Geforce 8400GS Zotac Nvidia GeForce GT 430: http://www.aztekcomputers.com/ZT4060510LR-ZOTAC-3928922.html Zotac Nvidia GeForce GT 610: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500262 Sparkle Nvidia GeForce 8400GS: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sparkle-GeForce-8400GS-512-MB-DDR3-PCI-with-Native-HDMI-Graphics-SFPC84GS512U2LP/161076196269 I know that the "future proofing" aspect of this isn't worth the cost, but as a fun side project I decided to try it. In the end I have three questions. 1. Is my PSU powerful enough to support the above mentioned cards. 2. I'm pretty sure the 430 will out perform the 8400GS, but how does it compare to the 610? 3. How much will the PCI slot limit the graphics card compared to the same one in a PCI-E slot? Thanks for any replies! -RedFox134

if someone somehow hacked a modern SSD to work with PCI (if possible), how fast would it be? i have done some prior research but i couldn't find anything, Although im pretty sure it isn't possible. But if it was, will the SATA III bottlenecks go away?

So for a long time now I've been using a little Asus wireless adapter (Asus USB-N13) but for the past few days my connection has been utterly horrid. It drops every few minutes, and when it works it will be unusably slow 90% of the time. The thing is that other people in the house don't seem to have any issues with dropping connection. Windows 7 will say "Limited internet access", "No internet access", or just drop entirely. So I was thinking maybe it's my wireless adapter being too slow; my modem is in the next room, about 4/5 metres between the usb and the modem with a wall in the middle. Should I buy a different USB/PCI-E adapter? Ethernet isn't an option.

Hi guys, I know that title doesn't make sense, but hopefully this picture will help. Before I get to that, do note that I did not break them. I removed the bracket to show where it should go VS where it actually goes. I hope that conveys what I'm trying to show you. The motheboard is fully screwed in correctly as the I/O shield fits perfectly. If I move it down to line up the slots to the bracket openings, the I/O shield wouldn't fit. This is the motherboard. This is the add-on card. It's in a 3U server rack case. I don't see how I'm supposed to secure the cards without the brackets. The motherboard is ATX and fits perfectly everywhere else. This confuses me so. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Vitalius

System specs: - Win 7 - Intel Core i5 4670K 4x 3.40GHz So.1150 BOX - 2048MB Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 Windforce 3x OC - ASRock Z87 Pro3 Intel Z87 So.1150 Dual Channel DDR3 ATX Retail - 650 Watt Super Flower Golden Green HX Non-Modular 80+ Gold - 8GB (2x 4096MB) Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 All of my hardware is new. Gpu-z reports that my bus interface is running at 4x instead of 16x. Feels like I'm getting more jagged edges and things "popping" on my screen after it changed to 4x. And I noticed a little decrease in benchmark results. And I've noticed that gpu power consumption never goes over 85%. Heaven benchmark uses only about 65% tdp and msi kombustor uses 85%. If I boost my power limit to 111%, power consumption goes to 92% in kombustor. Is it weird that it newer goes to 100%? Things I've tried: - reseated everything (gpu, cpu, memory) - nvidia control panel: prefer maximum performance (power management mode) and single display performance mode. Vsync. Physx settings from autoselect to gpu and cpu. - using different memory slots. - default cpu and gpu clocks - updated bios - updated drivers (also tried older and beta nvidia drivers) - reinstalling windows - 10 passes in memtest86 and 0 errors - installed windows updates - power options: high performance (link state power management: off) - adding 12mv voltage to gpu - increasing power limit (gpu) - checked for visible hardware faults - cleaning pcie slot and gpu golden pins

Hi, I am thinking of buying a sound card for my PC. My budget is around 50$. It doesn't matter if it is PCI, PCIe or USB, I just want the best sound card for this value. I have 5.1 surround, but also like to use headphones. Maybe a Xonar DGX is the answer? Or is there something better? OPTIONAL- I would also like a 1/4 inch input on the sound card but it is not necessary. Please help

I'm huge fan of every Linus YouTube channel, so I wanted to participate in this community (this is my first topic by the way). This is what I was wondering: I'm going to buy a new graphics card and I'm interested in the AMD R9 270X (is what I can afford) and also a wireless gaming headphones like the Logitech G930 that uses a usb receiver, so the 270x doesn't come with true audio and I wanted to improve my sound quality and also take out the load of the sound processing from my cpu, that's why I want to get a PCI Sound card, but I'm afraid if I use a wireless headphone through a usb I won't take advantage of it. Thanks (If this topic isn't at the right category, please let me now, like i said I'm new)

So I was looking on Amazon for a g-sync upgrade kit for the Asus monitor (can't remember the p/n), as they said there would be one. I knew it was highly unlikely to be on there yet, but I thought it was worth a look. However when I searched "G-sync" on Amazon, I found this. I just wondered if anyone knows what it is/what it does. I couldn't work out much/anything from the item description. Wondered if it had the same functionality as the new G-Sync technology that was announced the other day, but for quadro cards. Thought that was unlikely as I didn't see why you would need the variable refresh rate in a non gaming scenario. I'm not going to buy one or anything, just interested. Thanks!

so i had my Asus GTX 670 directcu ii 2GB for about 1 year now and around 2 months ago i'v been having these weird problems related to my graphics card like when theirs a new driver from Nvidia i install it but after windows 7 says that "Display driver Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode driver, (whatever driver version I have) has stopped responding and has successfully recovered" and after like 1 week of like random black flashes and sometimes freezing when i watch a YouTube video, play a game or even do nothing (idle) it doesn't appear till a new driver release install. As well the graphics card isn't running to its full potential i mostly play BF3 and i got a sold 60+ FPS on ultra 1080p, but since this is happening i cant even play BF3 on ultra and get 60+ FPS now i get like 30 FPS if i'm lucky, so i had to lower the graphics down to high- mid no AA and still get 60+. so i researched around on this and found that this graphics card on some of them perform weirdly on PCI 3.0 so i went in the BIOS and changed the PCI to 2.0 it fixed the problem with the black flashing and the annoying message but still get the same performance in BF3 and other AAA games. does anyone know anything about this? or have the same problem? PC specs: Asus GTX 670 directcu ii 2GB Asus p8z77-v-deluxe corsair 16GB CMP16GX3M2X1866C9 256 SSD 2x 2TB WD hx750w corsair power supply windows 7 pro

Alright, so I have an Asus Z87M-Plus motherboard in my computer and it only has 4 PCIE slots. In the top slot (Furthest from power supply, closest to processor) I have a Gigabyte GTX 760 OC 2GB video card. Now the problem is, is that this card takes up 2 PCIE slots (One is actually being used, the other is just being blocked by by the card because it is 2 wide) and the slot directly below these 2 is being used by a wireless card. That leaves me with one slot, right? But I need to install 2 more expansion cards... Upgrading the motherboard is out of the question, and one of those PCIE duplicator things is something like $2000! Does anyone know of a ribbon cable or something that I may be able to attach to the PCIE slot under the video card or any other solutions? Here is an image if that was too confusing for you. Also before you say, I can't move the video card into the yellow slot since it is too long and the SATA ports get in the way... Thanks for your help! Koala

What is a good sound card for someone who listens to music more than gaming. Although I do play games too. So don't completely rule that out. Budget is between 0 and 150 USD. Both headphones and Speakers

Hello. So, I'm build a futureproof audio workstation. This is what I've gone with : Parts:Intel i7-4770 (non K)Asus Z87-CCorsair Vengeance Black DDR3 1600MHz 2x8GB kitbequiet! Dark Rock 2 (I can't get a NH-U14S because it's not avaivable in Lithuania yet)Asus GeForce GT610 2GB SilentSeasonic SSR-650RM (or 550W, not sure yet)Fractal Design Define R4 WhiteAudio stuff: These ones REQUIRE PCI (non-express) slotsCreamware (aka Sonic-Core) Pulsar ICreamware (aka Sonic-Core) Luna II The question: do I need a Z87 board, if I'm not doing overclocking? What board would do the best for an audio workstation? Important: I need a board with at least 2 PCI (non-express, the old ones) slots. What would be the most reliable and the best motherboard from ASUS (Sonic-Core requires ASUS board, can't imagine why)? Maybe you could even tell me, what parts I could change and which could be better? Thanks in advance, Jonas.

Hello, So I currently have filled every single pci slot on my motherboard. I am wondering if this is bottlenecking the PCI bus? I have a sound blaster z sound card, 2 gtx 660's in sli, my wifi nic card, and a ocz revodrive x2. Is it possible to be maxing out the PCI bus?

Hello All! (I apologise in advance if my thread was posted in the incorrect section, mods please feel free to move it) My I'm new to the forum and looking for some assistance with my ageing Sandy Bridge system. I have an Asus P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 and an i7 2600k. I am looking to buy 2 AMD 280X's and run them in crossfire. I understand that my system has the ability to run PCIe 3.0 but due to my Sandy Bridge CPU it cannot. I ask of you the following; Can I run both 280X's in 8x 8x in PCIe 2.0? If I can, will I experience a noticeable bandwidth saturation with mild overclocks? Besides the GPUs, I will not be running any additional expansion for the foreseeable future. I will probably be upgrading once Broadwell is a thing, but don't want to have my system badly bottlenecked until I do. Any useful input is welcome. Regards, Mike
