I have a Lenovo G40-80 laptop, PF09SBYY, which is 5th generation Core i-5 5200U. I want to install a SSD into this laptop, but wondering whether I need to buy a M.2 SSD or a regular SATA SSD. Please guys help me out. I couldn't find any solution, because I don't know how to check if it supports NVME or not.

Hi, Well, hope I can find a solution for this, I just purchased a second hand GTX 780 ti Reference Edition (Was tested before the interchange). I've tried everything to resolve the issue I've been experiencing with the card (Title of the article) since the first day of purchase. Despite the fact that, I mounted it properly to the PCI ports (used the other one for troubleshooting purposes) and also properly connected it to the PSU (650 Watts BTW), is not working nor is being detected. From my end and as per other sources, I'm thinking that is not specifically the card that may have the issue, but my PSU. Why? Well, I've tried to turn my PC without even plug the PCI cables from PSU to the card and turned out that the card fan turned on at 100% (the sound is like a mini jet or something like that) with no signal at all. My PC just booted up like normally does, no error beeps, etc. Involving all the troubleshooting steps from various articles, I've tried them all. Even, cleaning the card gold pins with Isopropyl Alcohol thoroughly and ended up with no luck as well. The only "extreme" methods I haven't tried yet are: Use the card on other PSU/PC, clean the card from the inside, nor use the famous "oven method" (Saw it from Linus Tech), since I wanted to see some suggestions or thoughts you might have before proceeding to it. Furthermore, sometimes the cards turns on, the fan spins normal, then turns off in 10 or 7 seconds leaving the card lights on. Please, let me know if I was correct in regards to the PSU not sending the needed energy to the Card or any other opinion you want to provide. All your help will be greatly appreciated. *Sorry for the wall of text btw, wanted to be as most specific as I could. xDD Here I left you my rig: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/antonymatos/saved/bywjcf

Hello Linus Community, I got a desktop for free that I would love to update with a new GPU and I want to make sure the GPU will be compatible with the Motherboard. My Motherboard is using is an ASUS Micro-ATX B85M-E. It currently has an open PCI Express 3.0/2.0 port and I plan on filling it with a GTX 1050TI (not sure which manufacturer yet). Would this graphics card be compatible with my motherboard? Also, I would most likely need a new power supply unit, but that's besides the point. My specs aren't too good, but hey, it's a free computer. These are my specs: Processor: i3 4730 Graphics Card: Intel HD 6000 Integrated Graphics Motherboard: ASUS B85M-E RAM: 2x4GB DDR3 (forgot the manufacturer) Power Supply Unit: 300W (forgot the manufacturer) Storage: 512GB HDD (forgot the manufacturer) Hope to hear your responses soon, thanks! Influx

The known: PCI express 2.0 has a peak speed of 8 GB/s. 2.0 came out in 2007. can handle 1–5 billion transfers per second. each lane can send 500 MB/second. a 32 lane board can transfer 16 GB/second. PCI express 3.0 has a peak speed of 16 GB/s. 3.0 came out in 2010. can handle up to 8 billion transfers per second. each lane can send 985 MB/second. a 32 lane board transfers 31 GB/second. PCI express 3.0 video cards are backwards compatible to PCI express 2.0 slots. ******************************************************************************************************************************************* What are the benchmark results when comparing the same exact video card in a like for like system where 1 motherboard supports PCIe 2.0 and the other motherboard supports PCIe 3.0? Is there a noticeable difference with a 3.0 system in multiplayer online gameplay? Does the 3.0 technology mostly benefit graphics editing? Thanks, Kelso

I'm looking for something really specific and I'm certain something must exist but I'm not sure. I have an issue that I live somewhere very remote and we have no internet access for a couple months. My solution in my head is finding a NIC that takes a SIM card so I can hook it up to my existing cellular plan, and later on be able to drag it out somewhere so that I can game in remote places. Preferably I want something that uses a pci port as I hate the asthetic and the design of most USB dongles. Does anyone know if something like this might possibly exist?

It is my first Pc build and I don't have any hands-on experience with building a Pc and I wanted to join the Pc master race. I had a few points of confusion on RAID, PCI express, and the perfect monitor. Any help is welcome Here is my Pc part picker list: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard GeIL EVO POTENZA 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory 2 x Samsung 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive MSI GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Video Card Fractal Design Define R5 w/Window (Titanium) ATX Mid Tower Case EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply AOC G2460PQU 24.0" 144Hz Monitor Raid: I plan on creating a raid 0 array of 2 SSDs, is it possible to do this and use the HDD as a backup drive and bulk storage or would I have to have 2 separate HDDs for this? PCI: I noticed that the i5 6600k has a maximum of 16 PCI express slots, I wanted to install another 1070 GPU when the next gen of cards come out, I heard Linus say multiple times that it doesn't affect performance if you use the x8 slots for your GPU's, BUT, there are no ethernet cables at my desk, would my CPU allow me to use 2 graphics cards and a PCI wireless adapter? If not what options do I have to get around these problems? Monitor: I picked out the 144Hz, 1080p monitor above because it was a good bang for buck purchase, but is it suitable for my Pc? If I were to add an additional lower/higher resolution monitor would they have conflicts? Overclocking: With the stock case fans and the H100i v2, would this be enough to cool 2 GPUs if I decide to get another in the future, or should I buy aftermarket case fans if I add on the other GPU? Or are the stock case fans not enough? I would appreciate all of your opinions and help negative or not so feel free to bash me for any newbie decisions I made, I can take it.

I want to run two gtx 1080s but I only have 16 pci-e lanes. Will running two 1080s in 8x hurt my performance? Should I get a cpu with at least 32 pci-e lanes? I would appreciate any help anyone could give, especially since each 1080 costs and arm and a leg.

So I wasted a lot of time looking through amazon and other sites for a pci-e 16x riser cable for modding my pc to place my graphics card sideways to display it through the window, so its NOT for mining. Now I could not find an item, since the reviews either say its burned and shorted out, or they say it work fine. And they weren't enough reviews to begin with. All I could find is 3M one that is 50cm or 25cm which are too long for my use, not to mention too expensive. So I just want a working one that don't suffer from unexpected crashes and performance drop. I did however find these 2, but not sure if they would be the same as the crappy ones from amazon. these two: http://www.moddiy.com/products/PCI%252dExpress-PCI%252dE-Extension-Cable-Riser-%2819cm%29.html and http://www.moddiy.com/products/Premium-Gold-Plated-16x-PCI%252dE-Extension-Shielded-Cable-Riser-%2819cm%29.html My plan is to install the GPU just like the picture below

I have a motherboard that has multiple x16 (size) slots and supports Crossfire, but not SLI according to the documentation. If I use a GTX 590/690 (dual GPU on ONE card) on this board, will there be any problems? If a motherboard only has one x16 slot, will "dual gpu on one card" cards work? Thanks!

I have a s5000psl server board with windows 8.1 installed. I'm trying to set up a wireless connection, however I'm having trouble: When I insert the wlan card into the correct slot, the lights will turn on (wlan card), but pc will boot but not post...screen stays black When I remove the wlan card, the pc will boot and post, but then I can't insert the wlan card while the pc is on because the pc will freeze up/shut off. I have a installation disc, but the pc will not read it.. Side Note: The installation disc doesn't seem to be able to be read. It's not the usual disc size either...It fits in the smaller center of the disc drive. Possible Answer?: Maybe if I'm able to install the correct drivers for the pc to read the wlan card, the pc will be able to post and recognize the wlan card? PS: I made an internet connection via Ethernet cable after configuring the correct ip....so computer can connect to the internet with an Ethernet cable, but that will stop all other wireless devices I need to use :\ Thank you for your time and consideration.

I cant find any help with windows 10 PCI to PCI error code 12. I have done about everything I can find but no luck. I am trying to add a R9 380 fury to my rig but it wont detect saying This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. I have disabled everything but nothing. put in my Radeon HD 5770 and it works fine. wiped my system reinstalled windows 7 and still no luck upgraded to windows 10 again and no. No updates for bios made sure all settings are right ( have an MSI 870A-54 16gb ram 2 optical drive 2 ssd 120gb.) I know my board is old and I am getting new parts but would like to figure this out to donate to my brother. Thank you Jacob setup.txt conflicts.txt

Hello, without going into any details about my build, can I do this: I would add a PCI-E 3 x4 M.2 SSD card reader slot (one like this: http://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/Show/104431/89370/delock-ohjainkortti-pci-express-3_0-x4-1-x-m-2-ngff) on a mITX board only featuring 1x PCI-E 3.0 x16 will it work? The SSD would be something older and cheaper like this: http://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/Show/113914/mz-n5e250bw/samsung-250gb-850-evo-ssd-levy-m-2-540-500-mb-s That is a 540/500 MB SSD. The Mobo: http://www.jimms.fi/fi/Product/Show/98825/90mb0gc0-m0eay0/asus-h81i-plus-1150-mini-itx-h81-socket-1150-mitx So would it work? As far as I've understood the PCI-E-technology it should be possible to insert a x4 into a x16 slot, but would obviously only run in x4-mode. So this M.2-card would only run at speeds of PCI-E 2.0 x4 which should be 2000 MB/s (16 Gbit/s) if I've understood this tabel correctly: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express#History_and_revisions That should be plenty enough to host the 540/500 M.2 SSD, shouldn't it? So all in all: Would this combo work?

Hey guys I'm about to build my first gaming pc and I have questions in regards of the internet and please forgive my ignorance. I will keep my future pc in my bedroom but I have no access to an ethernet port from here, my router is far away and I don't know if there is a possibility to connect myself remotely with an ethernet cable.. So now I believe my only solution is going wireless with either a pci-e adapter or those usb adapters. I chose to build with the MSI Z97A Gaming 7 motherboard over the MSI Z97A Gaming 9 because I didn't want to pay so much extra for basically just the Wi-fi option and hopefully find a cheaper solution. So finally here are my questions: 1. Is there any way for me to connect myself with an ethernet cable with some sort of adapter I would plug in the wall socket or something of the kind? 2. If not, is going with a pci-e adapter better than the usb adapters? Keep in my I've never used a pci-e adapter 3. If I use a pci-e adapter, will it still be possible for me to use SLI? Again my mobo of choise is MSI Z97A Gaming 7, I will get 1 gpu for a moment and then plan on getting a second one later on. I feel I would have a space or connetions conflict. This is my first time on a blog or forum ever, I would like to thank everyone with your patience and for taking the time to answer to a rookiebuilder

I needed to move my GTX 970 to a lower PCI-e slot in order to get the H100i GTX lines off the top of my card and lower heat in my cpu cuz the backplate on the card that was touching was getting really hot and heating up the lines. So i ran Cinebench R15 OpenGL and got a 150.69 fps then i ran it in the 8x and got a 155.17 fps score lol. Also without a OC on my card i got a 141.88 fps in 16x and a 147.54 in 8x without a oc lol. Why is that? Ive seen similar things online with people saying the samething on all diff motherboards. I ran the test mutible times on both and got the same results everytime. CineBench R15 is really really good at giving consistant results everytime. Everytime i run it if nothing has changed i get the exact same results everytime.

Hey just wondering if anybody out there running super high speed pcie SSDs are seeing improvements in paging file speeds. I hit my mobo limit for RAM and am running an SSD. Moving from HDD to SSD helped with system choking during page swaps. I am wondering if either a dedicated SSD or pcie SSD would help with this. The system is a mobile mini-ITX editing system loaded with 16 GB or ram

hey guys, i'm building a micro ATX build for my brother at the moment, and i've run into an issue i kind of overlooked... so basically i have a Z97MX-gaming 5 motherboard, a windforce gtx 970 gpu, and i ALSO have a soundblaster ZXR sound card. now my issue is that the micro PCI slot for the soundcard is directly beneath the 16X slot for the graphics card! not to mention there is a second piece of the soundcard that is seperate from the main board, that takes up another pci expansion slot on the case. SO: my question is: either can the gpu work with full bandwidtch in either the Gen 3.0 PCIe 8X or 4X slots? OR: should i just move the sound card down a slot or two and use one of the full length slots instead for it? i tried googling all this before but i couldnt really find the answers... thanks in advance! PS: i dont suppose anyone can suggest a case for this sort of build? i need 1 more expansion slot on the case than i have PCI slots on the motherboard to account for the sound card issue, plus clearance for the 140mm rad im installing as well
