I have 2021 Legion 5. I but on Bios password (don't ask why) XD, And now i have forgotten it. Is there ANY any way to reset the password? i just don't wanna buy new motherboard. Cmos resets etc are not working.

I bought an old Latitude E5430 of Ebay but it has a BIOS Password i've already tried [snip] and and resetting the cmos but it didn't work, can anyone help me?

Some local apps and sites use this type of dialog box to 'login'. I know in the past I've been able to save my username and password, but it isn't working anymore. Any ideas on how to make that full proof and work again? Probably was with whatever version of chrome of Firefox I was using 2 or 3 years ago, but not since. I normally daily drive edge since it went chromium based but I use Opera and Chrome a bit as well.

I have a Dell Precision M4800 that we used for a project several years ago and typically noone documented the bios password which was set. I've tried removing the CMOS battery and discharging all power but that doesnt seem to do the trick. Hello to all participants of the LTT forum. First of all, sorry in advance for my English, as I'm not a native speaker. I have a technical conundrum that I wish you could help me with or provide any ideas. I have a .cdr file created by Disk Utility in 2012, which should be some kind of .iso in terms of format, and according to Finder, it's a "Master DVD/CD-R Image." This file is password-protected, and I never manage to guess the password. Every time I clean up and organize my backup disks, I come across it, and the curiosity comes back to me. I am certain that I created it (back then, I was obsessed with Fabri Fibra - an Italian rapper - and indeed, the file is named fibra.cdr). It is probably just an ISO image of a concert DVD (as it weighs around 4.5 GB) that I may have encrypted to share via Torrent or something similar. I forget what I had for lunch, let alone things from 11 years ago. I am too curious to find out what's inside and I cannot remeber for the life of me. I would even pay to have it opened, as long as it's done locally via TeamViewer - VNC. Since I have no idea what's in it, I don't feel comfortable sending it to someone. Do you have any ideas or can you point me in the right direction? I'm on Mac but have access to a very low spec laptop Windows PC if needed. Thanks to all, and have a great summer!

I have been reading a lot about cyber security recently. More so the security of actual real-world common devices (like mobile phones) and how Digital Forensic technicians at law enforcement agencies [Particularly the UK] use various third-party softwares such as Passware or Cellebrite to brute force passwords and passcode. The government agency pays these cracking companies (which are meant to be anonymous by the way) huge funds to utilize the software. There are a couple of other ways to obtain passwords other than brute force, that may involve looking at linked accounts, stored on the local memory etc. However, for a 2023 Google Android or even 2023 Apple iPhone, a lot of the methods used will be brute force still. The success can vary depending on the mixture of characters used, but more importantly, the length of the password/code. See the table below which shows a similar 2023 example of how long the above software's would take to brute force into a phone. Using this example, if you had the FINGERPRINT scanner enabled on say an Android/iPhone, but your back-up password (in case you get locked out) was 20 characters long and heavily mixed, would there be any way they could brute force it using the BioMetric security option? I guess they could take your fingerprints and somehow duplicate / transition them onto a replica if they really wanted to. However, assume your fingerprint data was unknown.

Hi! Yet again, I've got an issue. The problem occurs when I sleep my pc and I try to login back into windows. When this happens it says "Something went wrong and your PIN isn't available (code: 0x80280013). Click to set up your pin again." What fixes it is a simple restart and we're back in without resetting any PIN at all. Now I just feel really confused what's causing this issue when I sleep my pc. This has only happened when swapping over to windows 11. Do you think re applying the pin again may fix it or what? Please help! Many Thanks, Fire. SCS

Hey guys. I'm really hoping someone can help me here because I'm about to explode from the frustration. I have windows 10 pro, 64 bit, currently version 21H2, though the problem was also on 22H2. I have a custom PC with a ryzen 5 2600 cpu, 16GB of Ram, an Rx580 gpu, and a my OS is installed on a 256GB SSD. I think this is all the information that's needed. My computer gave me a prompt to change the password on my local account before I logged in. My original password was just 5 numbers. It was simple because I have young kids and wanted to maintain a bit of security while still letting them log in (the password to the admin account was and is complex and did not change, nor does it need too). I was away for a while so today I attempted to change the password back to something simple and have been constantly stymied by the error message: "The password you entered doesn't meet the requirements, try one that's longer or more complex". I've been able to solve most of my tech problems by just looking up the answer and following some online instructions, so I gave it a shot. Four hours and over a dozen failed solutions later and I've all but given up. Here's the broad strokes of what I've tried. Rolling back the update to 21h2 (same error message). Removing passwords altogether via netplwiz (no check box). a) Going into regedit and changing the device password key value from 2 to 0 did not restore the box. Using the command prompt to change to a simple password (same error message). a) By leaving the password section blank and typing (C:Windows\system32>net user "user" "") I was actually able to remove the password entirely so login is automatic - but this is not ideal. Going into the group policy editor and changing "password must meet complexity requirements" to "disabled" (nothing changed, same error message). a) It was actually already disabled. b) I did force it to update via "gpupdate/force" in the elevated command prompt and restarted my machine but there was no effect. c) Enabling complexity requirements but setting minimum passwords length to 4 characters, enabling "Relax minimum password length limits" (nothing changed with any combination). Going into the local security policy and changing "password must meet complexity requirements" to "disabled" (nothing changed, same error message). a) This was also disabled by default. b) I read somewhere that a domain control may overwrite group policy editor but this is a personal version of windows 10 pro and there is no domain controller. c) I even installed the active directory administrative center to check b). Trying to disable windows hello because I heard this requires password requirements it by default but windows hello wasn't enabled in the first place (nothing). Logging in with a Microsoft account rather than a local account (didn't change anything) a) I was grasping at straws by this point. Needless to say I have restarted and rebooted my PC and few times during this process. Please tell me there's something stupid I've missed. I've been unable to let this go all afternoon. I won't call it a total loss because I kinda enjoy the puzzle solving aspect of troubleshooting and I've learned a bit about my PC but now I just want it to be over.

I changed my password for my phone because my sister likes going on my phone and this morning I put in my password and it doesn't work. I have a LG Stylo 5+ 32 gig from AT&T. I would like for no data to be erased.

I have 2FA on for Steam, and use Bitwarden(used to use Lastpass but switched recently, deleted lastpass account so even if that DB was compromised I'm on a new local instance), with a 40 character Password, numbers, letters, symbols etc. Almost every week now I get a notification of a successful login with my username and password from random IPs. I change my pw after these notifications come in. I cannot see any way that this is possible without there being some issue at steam where there is some leak? I have no clue, steam support doesn't have anything except how to regain a hijacked account, which mine isn't. I also have gone through most of my accounts to change any passwords that haven't been updated in over a year. I attempted to post on r/steam but mods don't like actually giving support, and it seems you can't actually message them so, why not ask my fellow people here. If anyone has any ideas how this could be happening I'm all ears!

I'm trying to access my HP m28w printers EWS to change some config options and I cannot remember the password for it. There seems to be no way to reset it as you need to access the system tab in the EWS to reset the printer. Helpfully hp don't tell you what to do in this situation and in all of their forum repsonses they just say that they've DM'd the poster the instructions negating the whole point of the forum post. Their virtual chat support agent is as usless as the printer and they want £25 to phone them once because it's 2 months out of warranty. Any ideas on what to do?

Basically my dads forgotten his laptop sign-in password, Its a local account not connected to Microsoft, so it been a bit extra tough. The data in his SSD is really important so I can't factory reset it entirely, Otherwise I could've easily cleaned it up and installed fresh windows. Its a dell Inspiron 7706 2n1 Laptop Processor 11th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 Processor (12MB Cache, up to 4.7 GHz) Operating System Windows 10, English Memory* 16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 3200MHz Hard Drive 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive These are the basic specs, it's the core I7 variant. I've tried a lot of methods to bypass the sign-in including Using the recover image function and swapping the Ease of Access feature to cmd Prompt. ( Didn't work even opening image recovery required a password) Lazesoft Software I followed through on the tutorials present on the internet and Youtube, but it wouldn't detect my ssd, I checked out the support page and they said to download some drivers since some Laptops use Intel Rapid Storage Technology to improve SATA hard disk performance. If the Intel RST is set as AHCI or RAID mode, you need to load the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST) RAID/AHCI driver. ( Did it and it didn't work, they were right about Intel RST being on though, because I checked the BIOS out and did find RAID On and the description mentions Intel RST) Tired using cmd prompt on a bootable USB to get into Local Disk C and change the User password ( Unfortunately it didn't work as it wouldn't detect my ssd either) Tutorial I was using P.s I'm not particularly tech savy, I do know a bit of my way around a computer though. Any help would be appreciated

Hey, I'm trying to remove the BIOS password on an old ASUS X51L so that I can install Linux on it. I tried removing the CMOS battery but it only reset the time and BIOS settings (presumably) but not the password. When I try to enter setup it asks for password and even if I only try to set default settings it asks me for the password. I cannot get to the OS because when I reset the CMOS it no longer works (probably a very stupid mistake). I will try to install Windows 7 on it through a different PC but until then I'm stuck.

I reset the password, logged in on a few devices all was fine. Then I try into another device next day and it refuses the password what the hell? Y U DO DIS?!!

Hey, I've activated the administrator account with command prompt, but no password was requested to change. So I signed out of my profile and tried to sign in to the administrator account, just to realize that there's a password on it. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? If not necessary I don't want to reset my PC. Now I realized that I should have changed the password before I activated the account. Windows 10 Home 64bit (10.0.19043 Build 19043) Thank you.

So I've this ROG GL552VW laptop from ASUS, and ever since I got it, it has had this BIOS admin password. I never really needed those admin settings on my laptop so never really bothered with that much, until now. I need access to the boot priority settings and that falls under the admin settings. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING THAT IS AVAILABLE ONLINE, i.e. o removing CMOS battery o resetting date to a certain date and then in bios pw window alt + r o alt + r in bios pw window (does nothing and inputs an r instead) o every possible combination of the three above o entering password incorrectly 3 times (it's supposed to show a reset pw dialogue. it doesn't. it just freezes everything and you need to restart the PC) So, is there any way to reset it or taking it to ASUS is the only way to go? Is it even possible to reset the password so easily?

I just bought a used designed-for-POS PC to repurpose for charity (a local community group). The spec is basic but sound. However, the previous owners put a password in the BIOS - either that or they have a custom CMOS chip, but that's probably unlikely. The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H (rev. 1.2) and it holds a 4th generation i3 and 4GB RAM. So far I have: shorted the BIOS as per the manual removed the CMOS battery as per the manual swapped the hard disk for a new one, in case the original was encrypted ... but still it boots to a password prompt before it does anything else. Has Linus explained at all why the change and if he no longer recommends Lastpass as a result? I am concerned that this is another Tunnel Bear but without an explanation. Please let me know if it was discussed on the WAN show or on Twitter or on the Forum just so that I can see his position on it if he has said anything at all.

I have signed up to some service via a Credit score monitoring provider here in the UK (ClearScore). They offer a service where they apparently scan the Dark Web and it highlights all leaked passwords, addresses, emails and accounts that have been posted. At first, I got it as a prevention thing as it was only £5 a month, but after 1 search, it came back with like 8+ different groups of leaked information. I was sceptical, but it literally shows you the EXACT password that has been leaked (so in other words, information that ClearScore couldn't have known). I was mind blown. Of course, my passwords being leaked are from websites/apps that appear to have had some sort of data breach in the past and a couple of unknown sources. This is not the part I am concerned or amazed at though. What is shocking me is that this leaked information can be scanned and instantly found on the Dark Web. 1.) This means that my information is PUBLICLY available somewhere on a random Dark Web site. - Why? What purpose would someone have to PUBLICLY release information to others unless they are a HVT? I understand blackhat and alike buy and sell information, like "CC FOR SALE" etc, but they have no motive to distribute the info for free unless it's to sabotage a company (which I highly doubt). I don't understand how ClearScore would have been able to obtain this information unless it was public. 2.) Even if it was public, it is probably contained on a spreadsheet or similar document with probably thousands of other leaked users. If ClearScore can identify leaked information this easily, surely they would report back to where the leak came from and the source would invest some resources into getting the data removed. Data Protection and GDPR is really big these days and the fines can be in the millions. I'm no web dev, but surely you could pay a top-tier security team £100K or something to find the storage location of the information and get it removed. Would love to hear comments from a data security expert or similar.

Im trying to connect to my windows to transfer files from my android, and it asks me for some kind of password and username, I've disabled password protection in advanced sharing settings, I've removed my Microsoft account and my pc password what is this then?

On cold boot I proceed to enter the passphrase for my encrypted home folder and it asks me to re-enter passphrase on nearly every submission. The capslock doesn't seem to be working. But whether I use it or not it never accepts password on first try. Also when my password for account login is accepted the screen kind of freezes for 90 secs or something then refreshes back to the login page and this loop does not end. I have to restart my computer from the shutdown option on screen everytime. On the second boot the passwords are accepted with almost no issues and I am logged in properly. What is this stupid issue? how do I fix it?

has anyone else experienced a weird problem with windows 10 where your perfectly valid passphrase is not accepted by win10? every other computer is using the same passphrase, is accessing the internet, but yours comes up with yellow writing saying "something has change" when it has not.

I've been using Tunnlebears Remembear password vault/manager for some since its release. However they recently announced that they are shutting down the service and in a years time it was be unavailable for all users. In terms of secruity but also accessibility across multiple devices for one account, whats a great alternative to Remembear for multi device password vault & manager?
