Hey everyone. I've been fiddling around at a build I'll do soon and would like to discuss some aspects of it. :3 First, I'm from Europe so some things are way to expensive here in my country. The budget isn't really important but of course I want to get the lower price I can get with the type of build I want. Second, I'll use this PC for almost everything you can remember. I do a lot of web browsing including watching 4K videos and movies. I'm a gamer but usually I don't play demanding games but I like to be able to do it if I want. I'll do 3D design, a LOT of music making with very heavy applications that suffer from ram shortage and can't have any processing delay. And even as not as often I do some video rendering and photo editing and such. BTW, I don't need any peripherals. What I want from this build: - Best bang for the buck - A build that will be valid trough some years(up to 5 years if possible) and with options for upgrading. - Go overkill on making it ultra silent and xtra cool - A balanced system being good at every task I throw at it. And able to multitask a lot. - Overcloking possibility in the future. - and I'm a intel and asus "fanboy" (I just trust them when it comes to quality) Done! Now off to what matter's, the build: ______________________________________ Main components: CPU - Intel core i7-4790K 4.0Ghz - 320€ GPU - Asus STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 - 390€ Board - Asus Z97-DELUXE or Asus Z97-WS - 370€ or 300€ Ram - 4x Kingston HyperX Savage DDR3-2400MHz 4GB 200€ PSU - Nox hummer 80+ 750w Modular - 70€ Cooling: Cpu - WC Corsair Hydro Series H110 or WC Corsair Hydro Series H105 or WC Corsair Hydro Series H100i - 110€ GPU - NZXT Kraken G10 + WC Corsair Hydro Series H80i - 25€ + 90€ Plus some noctua fans for the coolers and case - around 100€ Storage SSD - SSD Crucial MX100 512GB - 200€ HDD - Western Digital Green 2TB SATA III 64MB - 80€ Case - NZXT H440 white 120€ - Also give me suggestions for the case please :3 Final price around 2000€ ________________________________________ So, what do you think about this build, it's meant to be a overkill. Like or dislike the CPU and GPU cooling solution? Tell me your feelings and suggestions. And I repeat, it meant to be a overkill, it's meant to later maybe get sli, heavy overclock, etc.

Hi there, I just signed up here and by watching a lot of stuff from LinusTechTips, Techquickie and ChannelSuperFun (although it's not related to what want to do), Austin Evans, Paul's Hardware, Tek Syndicate, and other tech related channels, I have decided to make what I call a "PC OVERHAUL" since my PC is super outdated (I've been using it since I was a freshman in college and that was about 6-7 years ago. I just wanted to get some tips/recommendations from you guys. I'm planning to build a semi gaming/work station that I will use everyday, so here is my current setup and below that are the parts that I have chosen together with their prices from pcx.com.ph (my trusted pc parts shop). My current setup: Chassis - Basic Intex Case Motherboard - ECS G31T-M7 Processor - Intel Pentium E6600 Dual-Core Video Card - nVidia GeForce GT 420 RAM - 1 Kingston 2GB DDR2 & 1 Transcend 1GB DDR2 Storage: 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda and 2 500GB Seagate Barracuda Keyboard - A4Tech KD-800L Mouse - a simple imation mouse PSU: Aerocool VP PRO 500W 80+ AC/DC Efficiency PROJECT PC OVERHAUL STUFF: Chassis - Antec Eleven Hundred - 5,500 Php (Philippine Peso) Motherboard - MSI Z87-G45 GAMING - 8,350 Php Processor - INTEL CORE i5-4670K - 10,800 Php Video Card - EVGA GTX750 TI 2GB GDDR5 128BIT - 8,350 Php RAM - GSKILL RIPJAWSX 8GB 1600MHz (F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL) - 4,000 Php SSD - SAMSUNG 120GB 840 EVO SSD hard drive - 3,350 Php Keyboard - Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2013 - 6,300 Php Mouse - Razer IMPERATOR - 3,700 Php CPU Water Cooler - COOLER MASTER NEPTON 140XL (RL-N14X-20PK-R1) - 4,900 Php Backup - Seagate Back Up Plus 1TB UPS - APC BE500RPH-ES So, what do you think, guys? Are these a bit overkill or highly susceptible to a bottleneck? Are they worth the money? Thanks in advance!

I am going to a old 1024*768 monitor because the one I had broke. I believe its 60 or 75hz, so my actual CPU and GPU are overkill, so I would like to maintain the system the coldest and the quietest. If i dont need more than 100fps fo example, how can I config my GPU to not process more than x fps? I know there are command lines, and have though of Vsync as an option, but dont know really how it works, because in my last monitor I had not experienced any kind of stutter, so never used it. Thanks, and hope you can help me

Hello people. New member here, excited to join you all! I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Last time I built a PC was 2009. A bit overwhelmed about all the pros and cons of certain build configurations. Now that I'm starting to learn all about PC building again, I realized that I never really cared for overclocking. Never even tried. Higher temps and warranty voiding just scared me away. So I wanted to do a mATX build with a white Bitfenix Prodigy M. I know, I know, it's a notoriously difficult case to work with, with badly designed airflow, but I'd be able to overlook that for its sweet, sweet looks. (aesthetics is just as important, right?) Besides, it's not like I'm likely to be doing SLI or overclocking even. Unless you think I should try. If so, tell me why. I might change my mind. GTX 770 was my first choice, but the 2GB memory just doesn't seem adequate in the long run. So 780 seems like a better choice. But then 970 and 980 came around! But I'll be locked with a 60fps max 60Hz 1080p 23" IPS monitor anyways. So would that be a tremendous waste of money? And so my point is, would I regret getting the H97M? (possibly by Gigabyte or Asus) With a locked processor? I could go with 4690k and a Z97M, with a nice OC and SLI option, but the Prodigy M would get so cramped, and I won't be able to afford the GTX 780 or even the new 980 when it comes to my local shops! D: Anyways, I'm confused, I look forward to any help, thanks!

Current major components: i7 2600K @ 4.5GHz (1.404V) G.Skill 2x4GB 1600MHz 1.5V 2x XFX Radeon HD6870 (CrossfireX) 1x Crucial m4 256GB SSD 1x Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM HDD Corsair AX850 I initially went with the AX850 because I wanted to support crossfire with a strong overclock on the CPU. However, I'm now thinking that it's maybe overkill for my configuration. Should I downgrade to a 750-760W PSU instead? I'm mostly worried that during day-to-day useage, the PSU is at such a low load that the power draw is less than 20%, which affects the PSU's efficiency. In the future, I plan on ditching the crossfire config and instead going with a single, powerful, high-end GPU (maybe something along the lines of 7970 GHz Edition or GTX780) should I definitely go with a 750W PSU in that case?

Current resolution: 1080p Future (desired) resolution: 1440p Main uses: Gaming at close to best settings with good fps (60ish) & Video Editing (Adobe Suite, After Effects, Custom Intros, etc) ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM Budget 3000$ US Dollars (Originally 2500, but decided to go for 3000, no more left.) Wants (But not required): Quiet, air cooled, no water, looks great, but not over the top, like a ferrari case or "gamer" case and lastly prefer NVIDIA over AMD in GPU and Intel over AMD in CPU, but optional. Appreciate any and all suggestions, please do explain why your build is the one that works the best for me over someone else's.

What GFX card/s would you people recommend for gaming with a 3 x 1080P monitor setup? If possible, a budget solution (For good but not great performance/medium settings), the best value option and the crazy ridiculous option... I'm looking at you R9 295x2. Thanks in advanced.

Anyone that can make a computer for 3000$ with full water cooling and quiet gamining and good and fast video rendering, and it need to run 3 HD monitors with very high FPS

Location: Germany Hey guys, I want to upgrade my power supply. I'm currently rocking a CX500 by Corsair. My system consumes 250W under load, and I'm planning to get another 7870 for crossfire. I was originally looking at a PSU around 650-700W like the Coolermaster V700. My plans changed as my favourite reseller reveiled a sale on the NZXT Hale90 1000W semi modular power supply. They probably want to get rid of them since there is a version 2 of the PSU released. The deal itself is excelent: From 189,99€ down to 119,99€. The NZXT is 80+ Gold certified and built by Superflower. This lead to a excelent 9.0 test score at Jonnyguru. At the moment, my PC would use only 25 percent of the power. My concern is, that I would barely reach the 20% barrier at wich the 87% efficiency has to be achieved for 80+Gold. My question is: Is that PSU too much overkill? I don't know how its efficeny will be at idle when around 5% gets used. Can you help me with the decision? The deal is only valid until Sunday evening (Now its Sunday 6.30 AM). What should I do? Cheers, Sirtoby Link to the Sale (WARNING: In german)

DISCLAIMER: This is completely hypothetical, you won't receive any money, but instead you are asked what you would do if you received the money with the specific purpose of building a desktop tower (no peripherals). This should include OS, PSU and everything that goes inside the case. NO PERIPHERALS. General use: Gaming, Video Editing (Light), Work, Physics Simulations (In order of priority)

I'm 90% sold on the Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H, a lot of people think it's great, it's not that expensive but this video is what sold me the most on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqcLIkdiJoE Anyone have any better alternatives, what's good about this mobo, what's bad about it, is ASUS really the best at MoBo's? Thanks guys.

CPU: Intel Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($1089.24) CPU Cooler: Corsair H110 94.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($157.94) Motherboard: Asus Rampage IV Black Edition EATX LGA2011 Motherboard ($626.31) Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($461.56) Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($0.00) Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($183.81) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB Video Card (Purchased For $791.69) Case: Corsair 900D ATX Full Tower Case ($525.00) Power Supply: Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 850W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply ($0.00) Mouse: Razer Ouroboros Wireless Laser Mouse ($142.96) Total: $3978.51 Budget: I want to keep it under 4,500 USD Purpose: Huge programming, 1080p Video editing, Web browsing, Office use, Work use, Entertainment use, 3D editing, Overclocking, School use, Minecraft (with game modification to allow shaders for realistic view) and GTA V for PC on highest setttings. Cooling type: Need good cooling for overclocking, just going to use stock case fan for now, thinking of getting water cooler soon. Why buying: The one I am using now is a pre built HP computer, which sucks and it has 300 watt PSU and GT 630 and 16 gb ram i7 2600 @ 3.20GHz which I can't live in at all, it is clean from the inside. Why not adding a screen: Waiting for G-Sync 144Hz 24" screens from BenQ. Why use high power supply: Going to get custom water cooling system maybe and might put another GPU or more SSD, I will use this for a long time before changing it. Why not add some fans: I am going to add fans later, for now I can use the stock cooler, not going to overclock at max so it wont overheat stuff. Thinking about getting Corsair Quiet Edition fans. Where I will buy the components: I found a local shop and two local amazon-like pay at delivery site which sells pc parts, I can go there and buy it instead of amazon or ebay, they have like everything there. How it looks: I want it looks very good from the side panel, like there is no ugly components inside, I am sure there isn't but need to think about that before buying another component if it looks ugly or no, since I might put LEDs inside. What I want YOU to do: I want you to take a look at my list below, if you know any suggestions on making it cheaper without big loss of performance, you can tell me a part replacement. I don't want it reaching 4.5K dollars.

My old rig was getting a little bit used up and the 1 gig of Vram on those 5870's just wasn't cutting it anymore. Old Rig: Corsair Obsidian 800D watercooled i7 970 w/ black ice 360mm radiator rampage iii extreme crosssfire 5870 12gb ram 2x corsair f120 ssd's seagate 1tb *This pc was sold to my brother who is just getting into pc gaming in case any of you were wondering. New Rig: Corsair Obsidian 900D i7 3930k rampage iv extreme trifire 7970 16gb corsair dominator ram asus xonar essence stx corsair ax1200i 2x samsung 840 pro's in RAID 0 WD black 2tb Koolance 480mm radiator w/ Noisblocker B12 fans case fans are coolermaster sickleflow 120mm red led and 1 Corsair AF140 (sorry for bad image quality) I had a lot on my plate during this build because i had to fix a buddies computer. (seen to the left) Then i had to worry about mine. The reference cards were supposed to be water cooled but Frozencpu just happen to run out the waterblock i wanted so i just decided to wait until i got a little bit more money in the bank for this project. The Alpahcool 480mm radiator was rusted from the inside out (just my luck) so i decided to go with Koolance for my top 480 radiator. Getting the first parts of the second loop going. I won't actually be using this becasue i dont have any GPU blocks but i think it looks cool. I might be going about this at a weird angle. I installed my flow meter in a place that doesn't look that bad. I can see it from where i sit so that's all well and good. Filling the reservoir and my horrible cable management behind the case is revealed. Managed to jam the right side panel on and now time to install Windows 7 Ultimate. My real external drive didn't register so i had to use this to install windows, my hard drive anchoring it down is the only thing keeping it from walking off the table.

Hello there! So just for funz I used pcpartpicker.com to "make" a beast machine for like 3-4 years of gaming. My goal was, when creating this machine to be usefull for games that will come out in 2017 and it will be green, because green. So when I finnished stacking, the price was pretty high (at least for me) and I don't know if I waisted a lot of money or is it actually so expensive. Please help me what I can modify to get a cheaper price or "better" performance. Andddd I'm not 100% sure if I go with 2K resolution or stay with 1080 (if I choose 1080, the price will go down for $608,99 because I don't need another monitor). { PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XmrXVn Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XmrXVn/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($279.99 @ Micro Center) CPU Cooler: be quiet! So I made a second gaming build, and wanting to know if this will bottleneck, or I have picked some really overkill options, there are no peripherals involved and only components. Purpose of the build : Gaming and multitasking such as running videos on the background while playing games etc. Location : U.K Budget, at about 1000, I want to know if I can change things in order to get something cheaper. Hello everyone, just thought I'd initiate a conversation on what everyone thinks is the maximum price or sweet spot in between price to performance, meaning what you would be ready to pay for the computer you want, staying within the realms of normal middle class consumers, (Nothing crazy like 10,000$ or more) Me personally, as of current economic standings, I would be more than happy with a 1500$ PC, as it would more than suit my needs. I'd be ready to pay a maximum of 3000$ in the future for a PC, personally I think anything over that price point would just be wasting money unless you are just rich or have no other costs. Interested to hear any other opinions you may have. This is the 3000$ build I'd be willing to buy in the near future. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2MnCn EDIT: I ALREADY HAVE A 1000W PSU, WINDOWS 8.1 AND IF NEEDED A DECENT OPTICAL DRIVE.

POST WAS EDITED 6/11/13 12:34 PM french time Hello and thank you for bothering to read this , As it is said in the title i plan to build a new computer , here are a list of things you might want to read before i start saying why i picked such part and so on. 1. Budget & Location The Budget i have is currently a 5000€ budget.(I live in paris , and therefore the currency i use is euros). 2. Aim The main aim would be gaming ; and by that i mean: RTS gaming : Starcraft , total war ... FPS gaming : Call of duty , battlefield 4 ... MOBA gaming : League of legends , Dota 2 , Smite MMORPG : WoW i might also decide to use it for video editing sometimes. 3. Monitors I hope to have Two BENQ xl2720LT running on my rig.i do not think that i will be adding more and i believe the resolution is 1920x1080 for both of them LINK http://shop.benq.eu/store/benqeu/en_GB/pd/ThemeID.19795600/productID.275403400 4. Peripherals I believe i have every peripheral i need so far , which are : Razer Abyssus http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-mice/razer-abyssus/ (mouse) Razer Naga : http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-mice/razer-naga/ (mouse) Razer Black widow ultimate :http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-keyboards-keypads/razer-blackwidow-ultimate/ (keyboard) 5. Why are you upgrading? I am sick and tired of my mac (macbook air) So let's move on to the interesting bit 1) CASE Well , firstly i hesitated between the corsair 900 D http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139019 , however i recently came across another case that in my opinion , looks much better and is roughly the same , (please correct me if i am wrong ) , it is the Xilence Interceptor Pro http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xilence-Interceptor-Gaming-Casing-Black/dp/B006LYMQ60 why did i pick it ? , because it just looks better , and i do not like the ''window side pannel'' on the corsair case. UPDATE : i am now hesitating , as i've seen a xilence interceptor in real life and i's f*cking hudge ! however , it is cheaper 2) MOTHERBOARD The motherboard i chose to pick was the ASUS mobo MAXIMUS VI EXTREME http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131974). I picked it after looking at some reviews over the internet and found that it was the best possible choice.I have not thought of anything else. If you think that there is a better option , please do not hesitate to help. 3) PROCESSSOR Regarding the processor , i have chosen the Intel CORE i7 4770K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116901.Again , my choice is based on internet value per dollar Benchmark.I found arguments which stated that the I5 3770k was also good , but i thought it would be better to have a more recent piece of equipment. 4) GRAPHICS CARD For the graphics card i have chosen to pick the GTX titan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121724 , as i am not willing to put over 1000€ for a graphics card ; and according to what i have read , the card is performing nearly as good as my second choice , GTX 690 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121636 UPDATE: I have decided to wait for the 780 TI card to come out. Source: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-8.html 5) RAM I kind of chose this one. I dont believe that this one is the best for me. i Still want 32 G of ram , so i can get the most out of my system. gskill ripjaws X series 32 G http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231487 Please help me regarding my ram ! UPDATE : I believe i will go for less ram after taking feedback from what peeps in this thread have told me. Less ram is better. I wish to get the Corsair dominator platinum series 1866Mhz 4x4 Please , do not hesitate to give me some advice if you think you have better in mind ! 6) SOUND CARD I have chosen the asus Xonar Phoebus http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132054 , as i play a lot of fps, might want to have a good audio quality as well. Besides , i do have DJ decks at home , so i might decide to use the computer for this as well (NUMARK NS6) 7) POWER SOURCE As the whole machine would require a lot of power , i need to have a good power supply , therefore i choose this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151105 this Seasonic plat 1000 power supply is just what i need. 8) CPU COOLER I have chosen the Corsair 100i , as it is a very famous brand in my country (france) and has a lot of positive reviews http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181032 Update : I have decided to go with a custom water loop 9) HARD DRIVE I have chosen two Seagate Barracuda 2TB hard drives , as i need a LOT of space for my movies and stuff ( NOT PORN!!!) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148834 Seagate just make the best hard drives in my opinion I also need to learn how to set up a raid 1 and a Raid 0 for back up 10) SSD For my SSD i have chosen a Plextor 500gb , as i have been told that it is better to store your games and other stuff on the ssd , as it has a faster reponse time. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-249-028&Tpk=SSD%20plextor%20PX%20512%20M5P 11) BLUE RAY DRIVERS/WRITERS i have chosen two asus branded Writer / reader , as i trust asus with my life ( maybe not) http://www.materiel.net/lecteur-optique-blu-ray/asus-pack-bc-12b1st-5-bd-r-lth-25-go-82169.html 12) MONITORS As i stated before , i plan to run two BENQ xl2720lt monitors on my RIG Well , i believe that is everything. Now to the HArd part , THE BILL !! It comes up to 4358.96€ according to the french amazon store. I would like to thank you for the time you took to read this , do not hesitate to give me advice and feedback. Many thanks , Alex

Hi guys i've got 10000 pounds to spend on a rig i've already got my mobo (Asus rampage 4 extreme) and my case (Caselabs Sth10). So i would like to throw together some suggestions and thoughts on the rest of my build and when i end up building it i'll put a build log up too I'm up for any mods u can think of and preferably watercooling please but im still open to air. I should probably mention i know that 4 ways sli/crossfire and a 2011 cpu is complete overkill for various tasks but i just love building pcs and its a hobby to build the most extreme and outrageous rig. also its like therapy for me so please no bashing me for spending this much on a pc, by all means constructive criticism is welcome but douche bag posts no thank you.
