I've used windows computers all of my life but, my family uses macs and my sister got an ipad pro and gave my mom her laptop and my mom gave me her laptop. I wouldn't have taken it but I did need a laptop so I decided to try it. I know the basics and I woulds say i'm somewhere between intermediate and advanced but, I want to learn more but i cant find any good videos or articles, they are all basic usage or basic shortcuts. Does anyone have any tips or know of any good videos?

I’ve just got a new hard drive but my mac won’t accept it as boot unless it’s formatted in a mac readable format - it’s simply not readable by the volatile system (which is what’s run if no OS is found). I’ve ordered a usb to sata cable to format the drive from another mac, but can i format the drive (as OS X extended journaled) in windows? tl:dr --> How do i format a clean ssd as OS X extended journaled, as opposed to exFAT etc., from a pc? Hi everyone! I'm new to using NASes for storing all of my stuff, and I'm wondering if what I have is good enough to fit my needs, or if you have any other suggestions. Here's what I currently have: Dell Precision T3500, 2.67GHz Intel Xeon W3520, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD (currently lacking an OS) NetApp DS4243 Storage Array w/ two IOM3 SAS Controllers (currently empty) PCIe LSI Logic 9201-16e SAS Controller (for Precision) I am planning on filling up my DS4243 with SATA 3TB WD Reds and have them in a ZFS-formatted RAID6 array. The DS4243 will be attached to the Dell Precision using an SFF-8088 cable. I'd also like to have this NAS be an at-home server (not broadcasted out online for people outside my network to connect to) that I can connect (via Ethernet) to my Mac. Everything connecting to this server will be a Mac. Thus, I'd like to use AFP to connect to it. I'm not sure what OS I should use with it, though. I was thinking on using Ubuntu Server, but I've heard good things about FreeNAS and unRaid too. So, now for the questions. What OS would you suggest I use? Can I add drives as needed by simply popping in a new HDD into the storage array without needing to reinitialize? Is my current setup good enough for my needs? For me, capacity > speed. This will just be for file storage. Thanks for your input.

Hello there, So I am currently about to start restoring a mid 2009 A1181 MacBook from faulty and want to know how I can install Mac OS on it. It does not have an HDD so I decided to buy an SSD for it but I can't figure out how to run Mac OS on it without previously having a version of it already on the MacBook. I have not received the MacBook yet so I cannot test anything butttttt... Is someone able to tell me how to Install a fresh copy of Mac OS on it? - I have a Mac Mini if I need to use a restore drive in order to get the Macbook working (if need be) Thanks. -
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro i5 for school and want to improve its speed. I've already spent alot to buy it and dont want to invest another $60 on an ssd. I have a 320gb laptop hdd and want to Raid 0 the drives to increase performance. The original drive is 500 gb, is it possible to make a 320gb volume on the 500gb hdd so that it can be compatible for Raid? if not, is it possible to make a volume on the inner most part of the drive to increase speed?

Now that my PC can basically do all the things I want it to, I want to try out Apple's Operating system. I really like the idea of a powerful desktop for gaming and a very sleek, minimalist, and "walled garden" experience for writing and business applications. To that end, I've found a 15" Macbook Pro i5 for $300. I believe it has a dual core 520 that boosts to 3.1, 8gb ddr3, and 500 hdd. Honestly, the only thing I want to replace is the HDD and maybe battery and I think this device will be able to navigate the OS very smoothly. Since I've heard many people say that newer Macbook Pros are just thinner, slightly more powerful, do you think I made a wise choice?

So i currently have a macbook pro as my daily and it has been for the past 5 years (not to mention the fact that before that I had been all apple for a really long time). And my goal is to run an OSX (el captain or sierra) VM on my new alienware 13 that I have coming in. The trick here is that I would like to find a way to take my current OSX with all of my apps and files and transfer it over to a virtual machine (willing to run any free or reasonably priced virtualization software such as virtualbox, vmware, hyper-v, etc...) I have read people trying to do this with time machine and then restoring from time machine which doesnt exactly seem to work all the time. Of course apple makes this really easy when you buy a macbook they have a tool to transfer everything over wifi to the new computer but that doesn't seem to work either. Any help would be awesome.

Hi everyone, I am here looking for some advice on choosing a file system for my external drive. Let me explain my situation abbot first. My main computer is a MacBook Pro with an 1TB internal SSD. I've been storing my 500GB library on my internal SSD and I'm using Dropbox to backup my music library. Recently I decided to move my music library alongside with a lot of other stuff to an external drive and use CrashPlan to backup that external drive, and the first problem I encountered was the choice of the file system. Here's my understanding of my choices: HFS+: At first I thought HFS+ had to be super reliable being the default file system on Mac, but I've since read articles about HFS+ bit rot and it not being a good file system in general. Basically the more research I do on HFS+, the worse it seems. ExFAT: Again, this looked like a good choice at first, but I then read horror stories about files corrupting regularly on exFAT and how unreliable it is for hard drives since it's optimized for flash storage. So has anyone had good luck with exFAT? Is it really that unreliable? FAT32: I originally passed on it simply because of how old it is, and I thought newer stuff had to be better. But maybe it's not actually a bad choice? NTFS: From the research I did, NTFS seems like a very reliable tried-and-true file system, and I'm actually already paying for Tuxera NTFS. But he fact that NTFS is not being natively supported on Mac still bothers me a little. Am I worrying too much? So yeah, I think I'm kind of stuck. To me it looks like there is no good choice. Can anyone please give me some suggestions? Thanks!

Hi there fellow comrades, so here is the problem. I have 500GB SSD in my Mac and I decided to divide it in half so that I can use windows on the other half. Long story short I got a new windows laptop and don't need windows on my Mac anymore. I managed to delete bootcamp but I have no idea how to merge it back, on windows its so much easier By the way I'm running OSX HIGH SIERRA BETA Please help.

Ok, let's try this again To mods: THIS THREAD IS NOT ABOUT HACKINTOSH HELP Looking for some drive mirroring software to move from a 128GB SSD to a 500GB SSD. I'm currently running a hackintosh, so obviously i can run windows software too, however THIS THREAD IS NOT FOR HELP ABOUT THAT. The problem i have, it none of the drive mirroring software i have tried can mirror HFS drives properly (HFS=Mac's file system), does anyone have any suggestions for a drive mirroring software that will mirror all 3 partitions correctly (EFI (Fat 32), Recovery (HFS) & Main SSD Partition (HFS) ) via a bootable CD, so i can restore it to a newly installed drive again via a bootable CD. There used to be a nice free one that i can't remember the name of and can't seem to find anymore! Ideal requirements would be: Free Fastish Ideally block by block copy Bootable CD (this one is a must) If mods still think this is about hackintosh help, it's not - think of it this way. i need a drive cloning boot cd for mac, as none of the windows ones mirror HFS properly. (also moved to better section this time) Thanks!

1. Budget - £600 / $775 2. Aim / Upgrade - building a hackintosh to replace my dying imac. The idea is that the system will be better then the current iMac cheapest iMac specs and be upgradable overtime when money allows. I shall be using it for web / email / media streaming and my design work. So photoshop, illustrator etc. Also wanting to get into video editing and 3D modeling / printing. 3. Monitors Plan on running two monitors maybe a 3rd in the future. 4. Peripherals Keyboard.... Possibly Montior - Already got one but would like to the same and need a mounting system for them. Hi everyone. I have here an older macbook pro 13 inch. I can not access the normal operating system because something has been corrupted. Is there a way to create bootable OSX installation media without having access to a functioning Mac? I should also mention it is too old to install MacOS Sierra on it. I have looked tirelessly and any help would be greatly appreciated!

SOURCE Handbrake their official download for mac was infected with malware, verify your checksums. If you've downloaded handbrake between 2 may and 6 may you have a 50% chance of it having a trojan of the OSX.PROTON verity embedded. Updates trough integrated application update scripts are not affected since they don't install if the download doesn't pass the checksum, unless you ran a version from before v0.10.5. file: Handbrake.dmg SHA1: 0935a43ca90c6c419a49e4f8f1d75e68cd70b274 SHA256: 013623e5e50449bbdf6943549d8224a122aa6c42bd3300a1bd2b743b01ae6793 To quickly see if you're infected, check if you have a process called "Activity_agent". According to the handbrake team themselves its 100% indicative of if you're infected or not. What the malware actually tries to do is steal all your passwords, so you will have to change all passwords stored in your OSX keychain, and any other password storage if you want to be thorough. How do you remove this malware? It appears to be pretty easy, see the quote below. They also state that they will rebuild their download server completely from scratch so downloads will be slower and older versions of handbrake won't be available for download. This will cost time so there will be longer than expected downtime because of this, sounds like possibly something nasty is going on there server-side. Personally i think browser should get integrated checksum checkers already, with them being able to provide a url for where to fetch the checksum to the browser manufacturer so they can find it hassle free. Wouldn't make it 100% secure but its better than people not doing it because humans are lazy fucks. TL;DR quote:

I'm a recent transplant from the Mac to PC. I have a ton of drives I used on projects and want to convert them to reformatted PC drives as I've heard scary stories about MacDrive corrupting file systems. With OSX you never have to worry about spaces in file names, but I remember that was a thing on the PC side. I haven't had any problems so far in Windows 10 so wondering if it's now a thing of the past. I won't be going back to any legacy operating systems on the PC side so wanted to get your guys thoughts.

I have built my own #hackintosh using Intel NUC NUC5I3RYK with 16 gigs LDDR3 RAM from Intel and Samsung 960 Pro NVME SSD and it works great except for the Wi-Fi lol. But it was something I wanted to tryout. I bought it on Craigslist for just 100 bucks with Liteon SATA SSD and licensed Windows Pro and threw my own Samsung SSD in M.2 NVME slot and now run Mac on that SSD and Windows on Liteon SSD.

I am wondering if i could upgrade the SSD in my late 13, 13" MB pro, i know it uses a m.2 SSD, but will it support an NVMe (and the speed that comes with it) or will it just run normal ssd speeds, like the one im using right now? If this is the case, what SSD's will the macbook support?

Hi everyone, Yet another problem with my MacPro... Regarding my last post, I did eventually manage to reinstall OSX El Capitan on the mac pro, but now that it all works, I still get some problems. I use this mac for music recording and I use Pro Tools 12.6 as my main DAW. When I create new music, you can save it as a folder with the Pro Tools file, the audiofiles etc. Normally on my windows pc and my macbook pro I can save it wherever I want (desktop, downloads, documents you name it), but the Mac Pro gives me the notification that those folders do not exist. I really hope someone here does know how to fix this problem because the temporary solution I have now is saving everything on a USB device or in the cloud (those 2 options are not that practical if you're working with audio). Also, when I want to extract .zip files, it gives the same error.. The error message is as follows: *filename* could not be extracted to "folder name" (error 2 - file or directory does not exist) The specs of the Mac Pro are as follows: 2x 2,4Ghz quad core Intel Xeon 28Gb 1066MHz DDR3 memory ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024mb GPU 500GB Samsung evo 850 SSD (bootdrive) 1TB ??? I am currently running Windows 10 on 2 Samsung 850 evos in raid 1. They are working fine and have amazing read and write speeds. However, I am getting more into video editing and am unable to find a good video editing software on Windows that is free and doesn`t have a watermark! I am used to editing videos on a mac with Final Cut Pro X. I have access to several licenses of Final Cut, but it only works on OSX. I have room for an extra drive in my PC case and was wondering if there was a way to instal OSX on another drive and then booting from it when I want to edit videos? Thanks, Andrew

Hi All I was given today an Apple PowerMac G5, and I am trying to find and install OS X Leopard 10.5 Server on to it. I have been trying to find some discs for it only, but to not much luck. Do you know where I could find them? Alternatively, anyone in the UK who could send them to me for a shortwhile (2 weeks) then that would be much appreciated. I would pay postage obviously. Thanks!

Hi everybody, I'm an informatic student passionnate by all that's tech related. I build myself a great PC with a multiboot system (Windows 10, OSX Sierra, Kali, Fedora) and I use all of these OS. But I'm searching if there is a solution to get 4 or more starting buttons to automatically start on the great system, My father had in the past (10 years ago) made a similar system with IDE Hard drives by switching master/slave jumpers In order to select the right boot disk but these jumpers no longer exists so I need your inventivity.
