Hey guys so I'm thinking about getting an Asus GTX 970 STRIX or MSI R9 390 8GB Gaming. In terms of game optimization I feel like NVIDIA cards in real world tests are better since I feel like developers optimize better for NVIDIA cards but I might be completely wrong. Am I making the right decision here or should I stick with my GTX 970 instead. Also, which do you guys think has better overclock potential. Which is gonna give me the most power for my buck. Thanks Guys!

hi peoples! i bought an Asus ROG Swift last January and its been treating me well, but I've been experimenting with GeForce Experience a lot and I'm curious if the 'Optimal' settings are trying for 144 fps at least. and if not is there a way to make it?

Any recent guides for optimizing an SSD on Windows 7? Just reinstalled it so most of the things i've done previously are disabled and most guides are from 2011.

I've always loved the Assassins Creed franchise and have been desperate to play the latest one, but i won't pay for a broken game. (One of the reasons i'm happy to wait for GTA5, in the hope they have spent the extra time making a decent well running game). I fully intend to play it eventually, but how is it in its current, patched form? I'm running a 4670k and a GTX 980, so poor optimization on lower end systems isn't really an issue to me, as long as i can play at highest settings at 60fps, (2x MSAA maximum as i personally think anymore than that is a waste of resources) With an Xbox Controller on my television. Any reports of game breaking bug still or just plain crashing would be appreciated. I've started to see more people saying they have it running better now so i'm im getting a bit hopeful now, plus the price of the game has been in freefall on all systems since launch, so that helps. Thanks in Advance

Hi guys new to the forums, but I've been following this guy's videos for quite a long time now. I would like, if you will, some help regarding the best practices for SSDs, I recently ordered a Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256GB, and it arrived today, so before I start the upgrade (I'll perform a clean installation of all my stuff, no migration) I would like some advice. Like... I found the trick about deleting the hibernation file in one of Linus's videos: http://youtu.be/cdzmylEz8hU I also read somewhere about formating only like 75% of the hard drive, leaving the other part un-partitioned so it can always run nicely. So what do you guys think? What are the SSDs best practices? Is there any downside to the samsung rapid mode? Do you guys use it often? I do a fair share of computational modelling, so I'm always looking at top performance, but I'm also an student so I always go for the best bang for your buck, and I picked this baby at a nice discount. Any help will be highly appreciated, cheers!

What's the best way to speed up a PC and optimize it if you haven't done so in a while? I'm not talking about closing background applications but other things such as cleaning the registry, disk optimization etc? I know some people do a fresh install of Windows every 6 months or so but can I just use software such as CC Cleaner or would you advise against it?

So i bought myself a Corsair Force Series Ls 120gb and on its first day, i installed windows, everything went fine and blazing fast! after installing everything i checked few settings as the internet says like TRIM and stuff, then downloaded CrystalDiskMark just to check the speed if it is as advertised, Read was around 530 Mb/s and the write was around 450 Mb/s, the write speed was a bit down but i didn't bother, now, after 3 days, i turned off system restore and hibernation mode cause that took around 10gb of space, but what happened next is that i ran Diskmark again, and the results went down... Read became 350-380 Mb/s and the write speed 80 Mb/s.... Only thing i've done is that i followed instructions on optimizing the windows system for SSD turns out windows 7 optimization differs from windows 8.1, i turned of few settings like pagefile virtual memory and optimization (don't judge me i didn't realize that defragment option is removed as default when detecting ssd) and hibernation and system restore, i didnt mess with the registry files, then once i saw the results from doing this i went back and redone everything i disabled except for hibernation and system restore, i ran again, still the same results 350 read and 80 write speed... i have another 1tb hdd which i use for installing software and games like visual studio, photoshop, steam, origin etc... i checked the bios for AHCI settings and see if the motherboard is running on intel chipset which i believe it is (GA-Z87-HD3), all good. So what could else be the problem for this massive performance drop? I'm not going to do a reinstall of windows for now cause I'm afraid it will make things worse...

Hey there guys, as sombody who likes gaming but always bought systems instead of building them I really need your help! I have NO IDEA if my configuration could work, what could be optimized and what peripherals I should buy. Also: Do I need more 140mm fans since the case only has to but supports up to seven? 1. Budget & Location I live in Germany and would be able to spend 2200€ (=> 3000$) for the rig + mouse + keyboard + monitor 2. Aim My aim ist definitely gaming, especially modern shooters like BF4, ARMA III, Wolfenstein The New Order and so on. The setup will also be used an Workstation for studying, so maybe two monitors would be nice. 3. Monitors I plan on running of course at least one 24" monitor, maybe two if the price is still in the limit. 4. Peripherals I need one or two nice and fast 24" monitors; of course Full-HD. My setup will have a GTX 780 and I do not know which link to use, because it only has one HDMI slot. I also need a new mouse and keyboard, maybe this really cheap mechanical one produced by Tt for around 80$. By the way: I am quite a huge guy, so my hand is also big, that's why I do not use small mice. 5. Why are you upgrading? I still have a 2500$ gaming laptop, but it is really impracticable for studying. So now I want to sell it and split things up: Gaming at home on a nice rig and in university I'll use a 13,3" Ultrabook. So now I am asking you guys to optimize my setup and pick monitor(s), mouse and keyboard. You can change EVERYTHING!!! Ello Folks, So I'm in a bit a pickle you could say! I finished building my new computer(specs later) and i was like "Alright, lets turn this baby on and get it goin' with 4-way optimization!". Yeah, umm, no that didn't happen..... I downloaded the program and went to 4-way optimization, set my fans, then clicked the advanced settings button. What I was expecting was the "Ratio Only, Fast Tuning, Extreme Tuning, Etc." but it just had "4200Mhz, 4400Mhz, 4600Mhz" not the setting that will allow the software to test my CPU for the best overclock and i was really lookin' forward to that ya know? So basically I'm calling upon all Y'all to help me cause I'm confused, atleast in comparison to the video on the NorthAmericaAsus YouTube Channel about this program. If you got any ideas please share! Computer Build: Fractal Design Define R4 Intel i7-4770K Corsair H100i Asus ROG Maximus VI Hero G. Skill Trident X DDR3 2400Mhz Evga 550Ti (Sadly D:) Samsung EVO 250GB Those are the main specs, so just hit me up down there and i hope you guys can help! Thanks!

Here is the tweet. [i will embed the tweet when I figure out how.] I mean, tbh, this seems somewhat intuitive and a "given". In that if they already have Mantle in BF4, it should be portable/usable in all Frostbite games. I just thought it was a cool thing to consider. All Frostbite games have a natural advantage when using AMD over Nvidia now. When we look at future benchmarks for these games, remember that. Just remember, this will be true of any other developers who use Mantle in the future. So, it's more of a 1 time development cost, since Mantle is modular (you can use one part without using another, a game doesn't need to be designed purely for Mantle to use Mantle). So I don't think the whole "they have to learn a new language" thing for devs matters.

Hello All, I have been playing video games for quite a while now, and I consider myself pretty good at optomizing settings. However I have run into quite a challenge. Currently my desktop's corsair 750watt power supply failed out on me, so I am waiting for corsair to send me a new power supply which will probably be another week or so unfortunately, so currently I am stuck playing on Lenovo w530. Specs: Intel Core i7-3740QM (6M Cache, 2.8 Ghz) Windows 8 Professional x64 8GB (4GB x2) installed, 32GB max supported 15.6" HD+ (1600x900) LCD nVidia Quadro K1000m 2GB with Optimus 320GB/7200rpm HDD I am able to get it to load, that was quite an issue lol, Bf4 does not like optimus, it does not change over from intel graphics to nvidia graphics too well. So I disabled that and forced to my nvidia GPU ( Yes all please don't demolish this with "That's a workstation GPU and its not made for gaming" yes I know it was a school provided laptop.) Currently my settings are: All low, vsync yes, Resolution 1280x800 (In game), display resolution is 1280x800 as well instead of 1920x1080. Max fps: 70 Average is 40 Also I am receiving random crashes in game. Is there anything anyone can recommend for optimization or did I do the best that I can ?

Advice on How to optimize the airflow in a corsair 900D
alex_kid94 posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hello , and thanks if you are bothering to read this, So i went looking around for a nice case , and finaly found one that is really nice : the corsair 900D ; Problem is , i do not know how to optimize my airflow. I will be watercooling my system with a custom WC loop , as well as 4 extra fans in addition to the ones that my 4x120MM fans that my radiator needs. I have found various diagrams on internet , but i would like to get everyone's advice if possible Such as However i don't think that is the best way to do it : i am sure that people with more experience than me as a rig builder have some knowledge of airflow optimization If a thread already exists for this , i am sorry and i did not know because i did not find it. Thank you very much for your time Alex- 21 replies

I'm looking for some advice on a build that I'm nearly ready to put together (Just waiting on some parts). Part List: pcpartpicker ASRock X570M PRO4 AMD 3600x G.SKILL Ripjaws V 3600 Cas16 2070 Super (The gigabyte windforce oc one its at like 1800mhz ish. Draws a bit more power than stock 2070s) Noctua NH-U12A be quiet! Pure Power 11 600W 80+Gold My big question is with the current power supply, which I know will cover my base requirements, can a stable overclock of 4.0 to 4.2 be achieved on the 3600x. If so does anyone have some values for the (average) 3600x that they would like the share? I am also aware that much of the performance of these chips relies on the timings and speed of my ram. So if it is possible to achieve an overclock on the 3600x is there overclocking or timings tweaks that should be done to the 3600mhz Cas16? All of this of course is assuming that I have the power budget for it, which I would love to figure out... Any numbers, reliable online calculators, or general advice you can offer are appreciated.

We all know how badly made games are on the PC platform, and some are truly delightful, though nothing close to a console in terms of direct to metal coding, this however will change I open this thread for those who are on or own lower end systems, i will be posting video's of my own ventures into optimizing games for ridiculously low specc'd machines. What i have to play with: ACER 5935G Laptop. Core 2 Duo 2.2ghz 3GB DDR3 533mhz 512mb ATi Radeon 4570m DDR2 overclocked lolz. I will be running some of todays games on this laptop, and see if i can get a playable experience from the hardware. OS is Windows 7 64 Bit, even though i only need 32 Bit, the extra address space and 64 Bit computing on the CPU should help in some things. Feel free to join in, i am sure there are plenty of guys/gals here with lower end machines. Sadly i have nothing slower than the ACER so...

Planning a new build and need more information about why one storage configuration is more optimal than another? Do you want to learn more about why it's more sensible to store certain file types on one type of drive over another? Over the next few weeks, some of the technical people over at WD will be monitoring this thread and answering your most pressing questions about PC storage solutions and how to make the most of an SSD + HDD configuration in your system. These are extremely skilled, very busy people, so we cannot guarantee that they will have time to answer every question in the thread, but you will never get an answer unless you put your question out there! So ask away folks! And don't fret if the experts don't get to your question - we have an intelligent and helpful community here at linustechtips.com that may be able to help you out EDIT, alpenwasser: Just a quick note: Please don't use this thread for general chitchat/smalltalk as that makes the task of going through the thread and picking out questions to answer for WD's people rather more difficult. Answering somebody else's question is fine of course as long as it's on topic. Thank you. I have hidden a few posts due to this, just FYI.
