Hi, So i recently seen a video on youtube to which the person had two USB drive's, one with windows 7 and one with windows 8 on them, I was wondering how it was possible to get them and also would this require a product key each time you use a copy for a new system built? (I'm about to build another pc but this time use a usb file with the windows copy instead of buying a £70 disk OS again...) Long story short; where can I download windows 8.1 on a usb which is ready to go into a new system with a product key for cheap or free thanks

Hope this is the right place to ask this question. Sorry for my english. I was wondring if it would be posible with a ASIC (I own a few antminers)to change OS from asic to difrent asics Example the OS From a antminer on a a4 dominator. And also is the algoritme set by the OS or the chips so could you use the OS from a sccrypth asic on a x11 asic?

I just ordered a 2TB Black Western Digital HDD to replace my 1TB Green WD HDD and my question is: is there a way I can reinstall Windows 10 onto my new drive without having to buy it? I initially got Windows 10 on my current drive from the free upgrade but you can no longer do that so I'm at a loss. Thank you!!

Hi All, I am helping make decisions about a class at my high school in which we will be making videos and it will basically be a film making class. We have decided to use Premiere Pro for editing (we're buying all of CC for the rest of the software that we probably will need). We also will be using Pro Tools for audio editing as it is the industry standard and we want to train the students for the real world in which they would be working.* One of our main points of contention is our debate between Windows and Mac. Personally, coming from a Windows background and liking to nerd out about computers and play with technology, I prefer Windows.** One of the administrators I'm working with thinks that we should go with Mac since it is more common in the industry, and since there has to be some benefit to Mac, otherwise most people in the industry wouldn't be using Mac. My argument is that the savings that we will get from Windows machines could be put to better use being spent on things that more significantly improved the education and experience of the students. I also argue that since we will be using CC software and Pro Tools, the OS underneath won't make much difference as the majority of the student's time will be spent in the software, and not dealing with the OS. I don't foresee any significant differences between software functionality between Mac and Windows. The administrator's argument is that there has to be a reason for creative professionals to be using Mac, and that possibly there will be better compatibility with a wider range of storage options, or maybe a better user experience. Another concern for using Windows is how much we will lock them down and restrict the access and abilities of the students. Some of the members of the tech dept. are of the mindset of locking it down as much as possible, while we think that it would be better to leave them somewhat open so that the students can have a bit more freedom with how they use the computers. Most of the people in the tech dept. are more experienced with administering Windows than Mac. We will be planning to edit at a max of 4K resolution at a bitrate of 100Mbps... We will be consulting with the teacher of the class regarding their preference, as they will be the ones that will be dealing with it day in and day out. My question(s) are as follows: Is there a difference between the functionality of Premiere (and the rest of CC) and Pro Tools between Mac and Windows? Am I correct that the difference in price between a Mac and Windows system would be better put towards better cameras, lighting, or audio equipment, and that improving those would more significantly improve the education of the students? Would macOS work better with external storage systems or audio/video equipment? General system recommendations are of course welcome . Would Macs last longer than Windows machines and would service be better than a Windows system**? Would teaching students on Windows disadvantage them in the real world of the film and TV industries? Why do most of the production houses and "creative professionals" use Macs? Is it just history, prejudices, and marketing, or is there a real difference in functionality and/or user experience? Any general feedback is of course welcome. In total, we will be getting 6 video editing stations, 1 audio recording system, one audio design system, 1 teacher's computer, and maybe 1 or 2 other computers. We would like to keep them all the same computers so we don't have to deal with 10 different models. Each of the systems would have at least 2 displays (maybe going to 3 or even 4 if they have the capability to project to the rest of the class). *We also understand that Media Composer does have the majority of the market in the film and television industry but believe that it is too difficult for the students to learn. We also have been told that Premiere has begun to become more popular in the industry and that we wouldn't be hurting the students by teaching Premiere instead of Media Composer. I'm welcome to comments about this decision as well. **We will not be building our own systems. We will be buying pre-built workstations from Dell or HP, or if Mac, of course Apple. Edit 1: We will be editing completely on the network since it would be easier to deal with since if a group/student was editing on one machine and if it failed or another group was using it, they could go to another system and simply keep working without the hassle of moving video files around. Is this practical, and would this change the OS choice?

OK so sorry if this post is a bit long but i'll try to keep it as concise as possible. I'm currently in the waiting period before i start my build and i have a few questions about having an SSD and a HDD, coming from someone who has only ever used a build that has one hard drive. So my build has a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HHD for storage and i'm planning on using the SSD as a boot drive and the HDD for everything everything else. My current pc is a laptop with a 1TB HDD and i'd like to transfer all the data from it to my new PC (mainly for save data on steam games and personal files, most of the programmes i can re-download), would this be possible? I'd like to have my HDD as my default storage (like where the Downloads, Videos and Folders section are) and have that be the location of the system files, or would the Program Files x86 and those other files be in the SSD? It might make it a bit more complicated because i'd be going from windows 8.1 to windows 10.

A black screen appears after my bios, but before my windows boot, it lasts about 15-20 seconds but I eventually get into windows 10. I've been trying to fix it for weeks without any improvement. I tried installing windows onto a different drive and it still showed the black screen before I got into windows. My specs are; i7 6700K, msi z170a sli plus, 32Gbs of G.skill ddr4, samsung m.2 950 pro ssd which has the operating system on it and a 500gb samsung evo, don't have a graphics card yet because I'm waiting to get my hands on a gtx 1080. any help would be great

I've tried making a bootable USB to install this Windows ISO every way I know how and even some new ones and it still won't boot to it! I'm on Windows 10 Home with latest updates, I have a legit Windows 7 Professional 64-bit ISO, I'm using a system very similar to the ASUS M32AD with an ASUS H81M-E motherboard, and a SanDisk 16GB USB drive. Someone please help me, it's getting pretty aggravating. I've tried Rufus with many different settings but my PC just won't boot to it. FAT32 didn't work and I've tried every media creation tool Microsoft has.

Hi all, I'm in need of some help. I'll start with a little backstory (I'll try to keep it short) and then tell you what's going on. So, my HDD in my desktop took a dive (ironically after updating windows, I was still on 7 at the time). Well I went out and bought a new SSD and installed it in my PC. Well, the biggest issue for me is how to get windows on this. I don't like the idea of the sites that sell them for $20 and taking a risk on having them crash after a month or so. I did find out that my college offers them through Dreamspark for free though. However, they only offer: Windows Embedded Standard 7 And Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro with Update I decided to go with 8.1 after finding out that 7 isn't able to upgrade to windows 10. And because I was not figuring out how to download them and install them correctly from Dreamspark. So I went to YouTube (of course) and was happy to see that Linus had a video through NCIX Tech Tip for installing 8.1 on a USB drive and thought that I should be able to follow those instructions and since dreamspark gave me a key code I would just be able to use that. So here's the problem: Without the USB inserted, I get "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot deice and press a key" (photo attached below, 2nd one). So, I turn the power off, insert the USB and then turn it back on. I went into the BIOS and selected to boot from the USB and then I get a blank screen with an underscore character blinking repeatedly (photo attached below, 1st one). I have tried hitting every key on the keyboard during this and I have even left it like that overnight while I slept to see if it just needed time but nothing has worked. I really need my PC working again as I start a very busy next 8 weeks this Tuesday. (new job and 3 accelerated summer courses). I REALLY appreciate any help you can give me! THANKS SO MUCH!

The laptop I'm having the problems with is an Acer Aspire e5-571pg. Basically I tried to factory reset the laptop by holding shift and clicking restart and then going from there. It loads for a couple minutes and then says "There was a problem resetting your PC". So I went to this: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/error-there-was-a-problem-resetting-your-pc/a62801b0-c975-4d6b-b923-7bc63351fc24 I followed the following steps: 1. Boot the PC to the USB recovery drive. 2. Select Troubleshoot > Recover from a drive. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to recover the PC. Once again it said "There was a problem resetting your PC". I turned the laptop off, and then tried to boot it from the USB again. This time the screen is just black. Booting from either the USB recovery drive or the HDD doesn't do anything and results in a black screen every time. Plz help!

System Specs: CPU: AMD FX 9590 4.7GHz Processor. 4Cores 8Hyperthreadded RAM: 16GBs of mixed Corsair and Kingston RAM GPU: Zotac GTX 960 4GB model C:\ Samsung 850Evo 120GB SSD PSU: Storm 800W https://www.amazon.co.uk/Storm-800w-Psu-pin-SATA/dp/B001QF5RVK I have a total of 2SSDs and 2HDDs running at 7.2K RPM. Hey everyone of the Linus Tech Tips Forums! For a while, I've been having some issues with my system that have been quite irritating... There are quite a few of these issues too... No.1 For some reason, Windows detects my CPU clock speed to be 4.00GHz, when actually, my actual clock speed is 4.7GHz, I've checked in the BIOS and my multiplier is set to automatic: displaying 4.7GHz. Alongside this... Whenever I go into my BIOS and set my CPU clock speed to 4.7GHz, my system crashes either just after I login, or even before I get to the login screen. No.2 I have 16GBs of RAM installed in my system, although Windows has decided to declare 4GB of that as Hardware Reserved. I've tried many methods from the internet, although I can't seem to get this issue fixed. I really want to be able to use all of my RAM! I know for a fact Windows should only be using around 18MB as Hardware Reserved. Note: This used to be fine until some point when Windows updated a couple months ago. No.3 Ever since the most recent Windows update, my system seems to be a lot less responsive than it was, as-well as my Start Menu not working at all. Even when I use the Cortana Icon to open up applications, I can't seem to open applications with it. I have no idea what caused this. This has happened before on previous updates too, although a fresh system reinstall fixes this. The unresponsiveness includes windows taking more time than usual to read data or begin to perform tasks. This happens across all my drives, and they're all relatively new. I have restarted my Windows 10 around 7 times now, and if I have to do it again, I'm going back down to Win7. Not that I want to or anything. The only thing I like about 10 is the interface. Thanks! -Drew I might take some time to reply, as I have exams to take.

So, I'll preface this with some detail. I have a laptop, specifically I have the HP 2000 Notebook that came out for Windows 8 approximately 3.8 years ago. It is loaded with a 64 Bit AMD processor of some sort. I've installed a 32 bit Linux (Mint) OS onto it. My question is... Can a system running a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit processor utilize MORE than the 4GB RAM limit? I mean, I understand that it being 32-bit limits it to 4GB, but since its running on a 64-bit processor, will it be okay? I mean... the processor itself can handle larger data sets than an i386 processor... but will the OS being 32-bit hamper my master plan?

OK so here's an update on my 1st time build using all used parts so far. I have bought. 1x Core i3 4170 CPU 1x ASUS h97 Pro (not pro gamer) motherboard What I'm reusing. 1x Asus Sapphire HD7750 1GB GDDR5 GPU What I plan to buy. 1x OCZ ZS Series 650w PSU Any 2x4gb or 1x8gb DDR3 1600MHz RAM. 1x Zalman Z11 plus PC case. What I'm undecided on. 1x Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler OR any Corsair H50/60/80 Series CPU water cooler I can get for the same price What I need help finding. A freaking OS to run my damn computer on. I completely forgot about this. I need a way to get Windows 7,8,8.1 for free or as cheap as possible. I see online retailers selling what appear to be product keys for as low as £18.99. https://softwaregeeks.co.uk/product/windows-7-home-premium-3264bit-product-key-coa/?gclid=CJudpYP5jswCFbQV0wodb0cEvA My question is, does this include the OS, and can I download it to a USB, and boot up a newly built pc with a hard drive that has no software or data or old OS on it, and then run the PC using this OS or do I have to buy the full retail package which is like 4x as much?

Windows 7 updates are purposely slown down by microsoft in order to get people to switch to windows 10. Here is a link to the answers discussion where millions of people that still stick with windows 7 are seeing issues when running windows update: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-update/poor-windows-7-update-process/f6ff3941-c2b7-4188-ace7-2a7efb780c76 By forcing people into downloading windows 10 microsoft is not only increasing the popularity of a windows 8 like interface, but also future proofing the profit they make. Once everyone downloads windows 10 'for free' they will be free to stop supporting windows 7. The fact that they have already made updates sluggish is proof of that. This doesnt affect anyone directly, but without windows 7 support people will not be able do system recovery into the latest update that gives them windows 10 for free. So in the end you will be forced to buy windows 10 or a new computer. That is why they are using this underhanded tactic of slowing down windows update to get people to switch to windows 10.
