What are your thoughts and opinions about the "new era of gaming"? Linux OS is noticeably popular these days and the fact that Linus tech tips made videos about gaming on a linux gave pretty good impressions about the future of the system. Personally, the configuration of the system and picking a specific "distro" (think, android launcher) plus the typing of specific commands is really scary when you mess up. But after watching Anthony's explanation about using Linux gave me at least a ray of hope on leaning to the system. If you know what command to input, it wouldn't be a hassle. Seeing the development so far is really astonishing. And so after a long debate with myself, I would love to see the operating system grow with popularity and soon, one day, help in the development of it. With companies backing up the system, I doubt that it wouldn't be known by every tech enthusiast and maybe the mainstream public about the interesting system.. Here's the video I sought out to be quite interesting.

So I've been looking around, but I'm not sure I'm really finding what I'm looking for. I'm wondering if anyone has had Zorin 15 core (Free) and bought the ultimate (39$ usd), and seen a difference? Like...what exactly is different? I know there are included games, but what makes it different from Zorin 15 Core?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Ubuntu, Windows 10, and MacOS? Preferably the latest versions. Also what unique features makes them special? What technology/ies? Why others have only 1 or more OSes? I'm just wondering, I hope I get answers from an experienced users, or maybe you could elaborate your experiences. Thanks!

I currently have an HP Pavilion G7 Notebook AMD A6-3420M 1.5GHZ stock that is running Windows 7 premium. I'm wonder what specific basic upgrades I could throw into it, ssd/windows10/RAM/etc. I know an SSD would be a huge upgrade but I'm unsure what size/type I can put in it. I think RAM is possible too but again unsure as to type ddr2/3 and size? Any suggestions are helpful thanks!

When I first built this desktop, I paid full price for an official retail windows 10 license. I've heard online that there's a chance that when you switch out parts in your system, windows will recognize that your parts are different and disable your windows license. I was told that making a Microsoft account with the license tied to it is a solution but I'd honestly rather die than do that so I was planning on unbinding the license key and rebinding it after the upgrade. Is this a viable solution?

Tl:dr = I need to change my laptop's hard drive, will there be any problems transferring the OS (W7, most likely OEM)? Will I need to try and dig out the SLP key before I attempt the swap? Or am I just being paranoid and overthinking everything? Backstory if its important: Laptop (~6yrs old, Cyberpower brand) has been running very slow for the past year and a half (ex: takes ~10min to open a file directory); from the checks I've been able to do it seems like all the other hardware is fine, which leaves the HDD as the most likely cause of my issues. So I'm going to try and replace the current HDD (Hitachi ATA HGST HTS721010A9) with a new one (probably some 2.5" WD drive). Something I didn't think about until now was that this is most likely an OEM version of Windows 7. I have no clue if that's going to cause issues with the transfer to the new HDD or if I have to do anything special like digging out my SLP key or something like that?

I am looking to downgrade from windows 10 to windows 7, the purpose of this is because I am tired of all the bugs and limitations found within the newer version of windows. My questions are as follows; What are the quick pros and cons of downgrading? How should I go about installing the old OS? My computer came with Win10 pre-installed Where do I start? Thanks for your time

If I have an SSD and an HDD setup, SSD being where my operating system is installed, will downloading files to the desktop save the files to the SSD since the desktop is part of the OS?

I'm in the process of learning how to upgrade a family member's Compaq desktop (Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005) for fun and experience. I've watched several videos and read some articles on the subject, but I'm not sure anything has completely helped me with the whole process. I know how to get create a boot device for a Windows installation but I'm not sure that going straight to 10 from XP works (because I tried). And so, I'm wondering if I need to upgrade to 7/8/8/1 first prior to 10 for the upgrade to be successful. I'm fairly new to this and I'm wanting some solid advice for this situation. I've already backed up the files that are wanted onto an external SSD. Also, the system satisfies the minimum requirements for the newer OS(s). Another thing to note is that the Ethernet connection seems to be connecting to our home network, but web browsing is not and so this might be a connection that is not support by the older system (maybe). I'm pretty sure nothing really supports XP (or older browsers) anymore. Thanks!

Now just to be clear i never thought this would work and I've never heard of it working before. I just built a new pc, i5 9600k, be quiet dark rock 4 pro cpu cooler, msi mpg z390 mobo, 16 gigs of 3000mhz corsair vengeance ram, samsung 860 evo 1tb ssd, evga 600w psu, rtx 2070. I didn't want to pay 140 bucks for a new windows 10 copy and i sold my old pc with my copy of windows on it. I had a dead acer aspire e5-575 signature edition laptop laying around. I grabbed the drive from that and stuck it in this new pc. It popped up with that normal your hardware has changed thing and then actually booted into windows. I did a system factory reset and then cloned the drive to my ssd. Everything seems to be working fine. Windows let the key activate and everything. The only problem i've seen so far is that if i go to control panel>system and security>system it thinks that it is still an acer aspire e5-575. Even if go to my microsoft account this pc shows up in my list of devices as a laptop. My main question here is this, does anyone know if this is going to cause any problems for me in the future?

Recently my moto z2 force battery started dying faster, then it started turning off at or around 50%, but would reboot and be fine. Over the course of a few days it died after only an hour of use and one day it stopped booting. it moves past the T Mobile screen, then starts the "hello moto" boot screen, but only continues for about a half second so safe mode would be very diffucult to get into unless there is another way to get into it that i am not aware of (other than holding the up and power button at the "hello moto" screen). There have been times that it goes further in the boot, maybe continuing for 2+ seconds, but im not quick, enough to get into safe mode .It hasn't booted past the "hello moto" screen, and it hasn't passed this while i am ready to try to boot into safe mode. I can get into the menu that has a bunch of crap I don't understand, but i can also get into recovery mode. Is there any way to backup my data and factory reset it and restore only things i need, or a way to reinstall the O.S. or something? Somehow make it work. IDK. Help is appreciated. Note: i replaced the Battery with a new one from amazon. It was a swark one (i think) and it was about $25. basically its in a reboot loop that wont change unless it dies, i turn it off, or i enter the menu with recovery mode, some kind of barcodes, etc. Thanks

Hi everyone I have a problem with my OS. It's corrupted, and I'm assuming my system 32 file is corrupted. An error code occured, but I can't remember what the error code was sorry. Basically the computer is useless for now, and nothing can be done on it. However this isn't really the problem. I'll be getting a new computer soon(because the computer is a pretty old anyways), and I want to transfer some files onto my new computer. But I'm concerned this may be an issue, because the OS is corrupted. However from my knowledge this shouldn't be a problem, because the new computer will have a new OS on a different main hard drive, so I'm thinking it shouldn't matter, and the file transfer should be smooth. Basically I'm asking, if my transferring my files onto the new computer would have any issues because of the corrupted OS. Just making sure. Thanks for your help. Other additional information: - Old corrupted hard drive has windows 7 - Corruption occurred because the PC kept getting "power surges", that reset the pc off once in a while. The times and frequency at which it had power surges greatly differ. Some days it never happened. Some days multiple power surges happened in a couple of minutes. One day I had a power surge and my OS got corrupted unfortunately. Still not sure what the problem is. It's either the PSU or the power outlet from my house. I really have no clue.

Out of my mind I wonder if a Malware or Virus can damage or affect other OS that has been install on a different drive/partition in the system. Is there a special case like the second OS is the same OS as the main one? What if Windows with Linux? or Windows with Windows?

Hey guys, I've formated my SSD into NTFS as a volume and want to install Windows 10 on a seperat system on this drive. But I can't see it in the BIOS options now. Before I have seen it as "UEFI HARD DISK XXXXXX" - niw I can only choose UEFI HARD DISK". Since I want to boot Windows 10 from USB Stick anyway to install Windows I don't know if it's relevant anyway but somehow I get only Windows error messages with my new cpu (that's why I want to install Windows from scratch) and it crashes when the setup Window opens. I can see the SSD without a problem on my other computer.

Currently I have an A8-7600 cpu with the A78M-E35 V2 motherboard. I am upgrading my cpu to the Ryzen 1300x using the ASROCK amd AB350m-HDV motherboard. I know how to do all the physical swapping of components, but I am unsure about the software changes that will occur. I want to use the same hard drive which has windows 10 Home (version 1803) on it. Is this upgrade as simple has plugging it in and turning it on, or do I need to remove old drivers from the last motherboard and then update the new motherboard drivers via the bios? Can someone basically clear up the stages after turning on the power button and what should occur on the screen. Will it automatically go to the windows 10 sign in screen; or will the bios load up? Please can someone help! Thanks

Hello everyone, I guess I need a bit of help/advice with Windows, as I am a bit stuck.. Specs: Intel Core i7-3930k @4.4GHz (cooled by the original Corsair Hydro Series H100 - temperatures are completely fine, pump works fine, even after all these years) Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4X4) @2133MHz Asus Rampage IV Forumula PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX580 8GB (used, recently upgraded from the Asus GTX 680 DirectCU II) OCZ Fatal1ty 1000W Crucial MX100 256GB (upgraded from the OCZ Vertex 4, which died) (18431 hours) Samsung 850 EVO 500GB (X2) (15636 hours) WD Caviar Black 2TB (26810 hours) Problem: Let me preface this by saying that I am updated to the newest BIOS and that all settings before attempting to update are stock (no CPU OC, no memory OC, no nothing). Basically my computer gets stuck in an endless boot loop after trying to update to Windows 10, version 1903. I mean the kind of boot loop that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to get into any kind of safe mode or anything else. It just randomly keeps restarting and physically shutting off and turning on by itself (it does this for hours if I let it and continues like this in no particular intervals). Even if I PHYSICALLY UNPLUG the power cord from the machine and let it sit unplugged for some time, it literally physically (like pressing the power on button) turns on and continues with the boot loop, as soon as I flip the switch on my PSU to ON. The only thing that managed to save me (for some reason) was switching BIOS chips (the Asus Rampage IV Formula has two physical BIOS chips and an actual physical button to switch between them - one is updated, which I use daily and the other one I've always kept stock, so oldest possible version). I have absolutely no idea why switching my BIOS was able to get me into Windows (didn't update, btw), but it did... after that I am able to shut my computer down, switch the BIOS back to the updated one (which I run daily, of course) and the computer works fine. Basically I gave up trying to update this PC and I turned off any auto updates, any update prompts in the registry, etc., so I'm just running my PC without updating it, which is not ok.. If anyone could give me their input, spare some of their time to try and help, or offer me some advice, I would appreciate it greatly and I for that I would like to sincerely thank those people in advance. So I basically gave up with updating my pretty much 9 year old PC (built it myself, 1st and only owner, of course), because I am looking to upgrade in the next year or two. What I wouldn't like to do at this moment is buy another Widows licence key, but I've been hearing and seeing people running non-activated versions of Windows just fine and from what I understand I just have to download the official Windows installer to an USB stick, install it without being connected to the internet and then just.. not activate it..? Is this true? Can I use Windows normally even if I don't activate it or will there be a problem? I was thinking just of wiping all of my drives to eliminate potential (software related, I guess...?) issues that might have been causing the boot loop in the first place. So, the question: can I use Windows normally without activating it & what would be the best way to go about doing that? Does anyone else have a better solution for me? I would like to thank you all in advance for reading and taking your time to think this through - deeply appreciate any help!

So this is how it started: I wanted to fix something in my pc. I saw a guide saying I have to boot in via safe mode. "Ok" i said. Now I'm in the login of the safe mode screen and its asking for a password. Now being the smart little snowflake I am, I never set a password for my pc, only a pin. And even when i reseted my microsoft password three times, it still won't work. I try to access: startup repair -Nope Command prompt -Nope RESETING WINDOWS 10 -Nope Does anyone have any solutions cuz I'm afraid I'm gonna break my monitor with my keyboard soon.
